Miniature Pinscher    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults

Looking for a great family! This 5 Year old Minpin is really sweet, protective and active. He is good with other pets and children, but would really excel in a home where it is only him. He does need to be walked daily or will get a bit anxious, but he also enjoys long naps throughout the day. He comes from a loving home however, he is currently not getting the attention he deserves (walking, playtime etc.). He would make a great companion for someone that can be around him mostly all day. Please contact me should you have further questions. Thank you.

Labrador Retrievers One of the most popular breeds all around, we have documented Labradors elsewhere as the best dog to have if you're looking for a date, the only breed accepted for training as arson dogs, and one of the more popular breeds for service dogs. For a family, there's hardly a better choice. Labradors love to please their humans, being playful, protective, loving, and reliable. There's nothing that a Lab loves more than to show off by learning a new trick, even if they manage to learn that new trick before you've taught it to them. They are canine 'Einsteins'. If you are interested in adopting me: 1) Write down my Animal ID # . 2) Make sure to mention Animal ID # when visiting or calling. 3) Remember all adoptions stop 30 minutes prior to closing time. 3) You will not be allowed to place a hold on me. 4) I cannot be shipped to you. 5) Before adopting me, you can spend time with me outside or in a meet and greet room. Please ask for assistance. 6) We take cash, checks, debit cards, VISA and Mastercard as a method of payment. **IMPORTANT: Huntsville Animal Services cannot guarantee that I will still be available for adoption as we do not hold animals for anyone under any circumstances. Animals are adopted on a first come, first serve basis. You may want to call and ask if I am still available prior to visiting the shelter. When you adopt me, I will stay at the shelter and be taken to the veterinarian of your choice where I will be spayed or neutered before going to my new home. If I am already spayed or neutered, I can go home with you upon adoption. My adoption cost is very affordable and includes my adoption fee, spay/neuter, vaccinations, deworming, license (if you live within Huntsville city limits), a collar and personalized ID tag. Please know that a high percentage of animals in the shelter are brought in as strays. It is impossible to know anything about a stray animal and many times we can only make our best educated guess on breeds, age, etc. Every animal you see posted here has passed a general temperament test as performed by shelter staff and it is considered to be non-aggressive. ADOPTION FEES Dogs: $80 - 170 - includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, rabies voucher, deworming, *heart worm and flea/tick prevention; purebred dogs and puppies tend to cost more and dogs that have been in the shelter longer will probably cost less. Cats: The shelter is currently running a $35 special on cats. (regularly $80) - includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, feline aids/leukemia testing, rabies voucher, deworming, *heart worm and flea/tick prevention LICENSE FEES $10 - 1 year license $35 - Lifetime license EVERY ADOPTER RESIDING IN THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, AL WILL BE REQUIRED TO PURCHASE ONE OF THE ABOVE LICENSE OPTIONS AT TIME OF ADOPTION OPTIONAL SERVICES $10 - Heartworm test. Blood test known as the 'snap test' that shows when heart worm antigens are present in the blood. $20 - Microchip. Another line of defense to help you get your pet back in the event he/she is lost. This is especially recommended for those pets known to climb fences, chew collars/tags, etc. Start your new pup out right by gentle training and socialization. If you confront a behavior problem you are not sure what to do about, Laurel Rose is a dog trainer in Huntsville who has offered to meet with people who adopt dogs from the Huntsville Animal Shelter for a free evaluation. Phone is: (256) 890-1234. 'Pit bull mixes': Pit bull mixes get a bad rap. First of all, the American Pit bull is different from other bull dog breeds and yet they are typically lumped together. Many are actually American bulldogs, American Staffordshire terriers, boxer mixes, etc. And what percentage of pit bull traits gets a dog declared to be pit bull over whatever other breed he might be mixed with? But more importantly, the pit bull is more typically sweet natured and friendly when trained and socialized correctly. Please do not be turned off if a dog that appeals to you is labeled 'pit bull mix'. Come meet it. You will probably be pleasantly surprised and may consider adopting one of the most difficult dogs to find a home for, due to no fault of its own. Whatever dog you bring in to the family, all of the people need to be the pack leaders, whether adults or children. Follow this rule from day one, and no matter what dog you adopt, you'll be working to ensure an enjoyable experience. Pit mixes are typically strong and focused and will require regular exercise. A 'power breed waiver' may be required stating that you acknowledge that this dog will be strong and/or large and may need appropriate training and handling. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Needs Vaccinations

We have a Shutzhund Trained Mixed German Shepherd (48 Pounds) we are trying to find a temporary home for. Our current living situation does not allow for us to keep her, and we are desperate to find her the right temporary family! Molly is 4 years old and knows more than 20 German Commands. She is of course house trained, up to date on shots, and has been fixed. Molly is extremely well trained and will not bark unless she sees an intruder. She will only jump when you ask her to, and loves to sit and 'watch' any children she is around. She makes an excellent companion to any person, child or other dogs but has not been around cats much. She ... (Read More)loves to snuggle and be petted. She has never bitten anyone, but loves to chase a ball and chew on toys. She has never had an issue with chewing on shoes or anyone's belongings. She is simply the best dog, and most well trained animal you will ever meet. We need to find a home for her by Wednesday. This would be temporary, as we are moving to a new location on October 1st. We will pay for any medical treatment (flea shampoos, etc...) as well as her dog food. This would be an excellent opportunity for anyone considering the breed to find out how loving, smart and loyal a German Shepherd can be! We are available any time by phone. Please don't hesitate to contact us, even if you would just like to 'interview' Molly before committing. You will not regret it! ***PLEASE ONLY SERIOUS INQUIRIES*** (Less)

Labrador Retrievers: One of the most popular breeds all around, we have documented Labradors elsewhere as the best dog to have if you're looking for a date, the only breed accepted for training as arson dogs, and one of the more popular breeds for service dogs. Follow this rule from day one, and no matter what dog you adopt, you'll have an enjoyable experience. Pit mixes are typically strong and focused and will require regular exercise. (Less)

Animal lovers I need your help! My niece and her husband are moving to MN for grad school and can not keep their dogs. I am going to foster them as long as I can to try to find a new home for both of them. Both are approximately 7 years old and about 65 pounds each. We would like to find them a home together, but would understand if someone could only adopt one of them. Both are spayed, HW negative, and up to date on all vaccinations. They are house trained and mostly live indoors. They are very people-friendly and are great companions. The only other alternative would have been put them down. Please help!

This is one of the bully breeds which means he is strong physically and potentially strong-headed. He is at the perfect age to be properly socialized and trained so that he learns to be submissive to his owner family and respectful of other dogs.
