Dachshund Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Baxter, Happy and affectionate are the best words to describe him!!! Baxter is an 8 month old Dachshund, Chihuahua mix. And you'd better believe he still has all that puppy cuteness that is so hard to resist. This little boy is very active and loves to play, play, play. He is good with other small dogs and also love to be cuddled like a baby. His favorite thing in the world is to flop over on his back and get belly rubs. Baxter weighs 10 pounds and will not grow much more but should fill out and be about 12 pound fully grown. He is good on a leash and loves his walks. He is doing well with house training and is very good for being created ... (Read More)at night. Since spending time playing with his human or doggie companions is one of his favorite things to do, we think he'd be best with an active individual or family with a yard and smallish doggy friend for him have as a buddy. He's very smart and will probably learn commands and tricks pretty easily because he so eager to please. Being still very Baxter will need a home committed to lots of playtime, attention and someone able and committed to the training a puppy requires. To prepare for his new home Baxter has been fixed, given all the age appropriate vaccinations including his rabies and dewormed. If you're prepared for a lifetime of love, Baxter would relish being your bundle of joy! To find out more about Baxter please contact his foster family using the information on this site. *****Friends of cats and dogs preforms a home visit with the prospective animal so out of state/ long distance adoptions will not be considered. We apologize for any disappointment this causes. ***** (Less)

ALABAMA - 'ADDIES' STORY OF SALVATION AND LOVE - NOW ADDIE IS READY FOR ADOPTION! 'Wait, let me take her picture.' The woman said before she moved the car away from my limp body. It was a warm afternoon in September and like most days, you could find me near the junk pile taking a nap. The old woman who lived inside the trailer called me over for a piece of bread. I love to eat soft bread. Sometimes I went to sleep hungry, but the next morning, she would open the door and throw me a few pieces of that yummy bread. I felt safe and loved when she fed me, but that September afternoon was different. The old woman in the trailer had a friend ... (Read More)who didn't like me. She was there that afternoon and I could see her staring at me. It wasn't long ago that the woman's son shot at me to make me leave. Where would I find bread if I left? Every time she looked at me, I would look away. 'That dog has been out there three years, having puppies every six months, and we are the ones having to take them to the shelter, she said. It's time for her to go or I'm not helping you anymore.' Why was she upset with me? I didn't do anything wrong. My family left me on that dirt road when I was just a puppy. No one wanted me, except that woman who gave me bread. I ate the bread she offered and began to get very tired and weak. I crawled under the car, where I had slept so many times, and then my body collapsed. I laid there for a while, when I heard the woman's voice and then the car moved. She lifted me up off the ground and put me in the backseat of the car. I heard them talking about where to take me and then the lady who picked me up suggested they to take me to a clinic. I couldn't do anything. My legs were too weak to run away. Once we arrived at the clinic, I learned that my life was just beginning. You see, those women drove me to the clinic to die. The old woman's friend paid the doctor to take my life from me, but people started calling in donation money to save me. The old woman's friend got really mad in the clinic and demanded a refund when she learned that there were people who wanted me to have a second chance. I'm currently living in a foster home in south Alabama, but I can be adopted to a home anywhere in the state or long distance. Ms. Lisa didn't know anything about me, but she wanted to help me find my place in this world. She tells me I'm on a fabulous journey to find my forever home. It was scary starting over, but I warm up quickly to those who show me kindness. I've had my heartworm treatment and I feel great. I've had all of my shots and I won't be having anymore puppies. I'm estimated to be 3-4 years old and I'm medium size and about 55 pounds. There are dogs here that I play with, but I'm in search of my real home. Maybe you have a dog that could be my friend? I'm not afraid of storms or bad weather. I love having a yard and a place to lie in the sun for a morning nap. My foster Mom claims that I'm a loyal companion and the best dog in the house. Do you have room for me in your life? We could take this journey together. It can be forever. If you are interested in learning more about how to adopt Addie, please email were4dogs@gmail.com (Less)

Great Pyrenees Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

They are 4 and a half years old great Pyrenees mix. They are both fixed. They are both house trained and like to go for rides in the car. Dean loves to cuddle and be loved on but Ra likes to run until he is given out. At night they become bed hogs. They are both loving dogs but a little skittish. They would be great farm dogs. If it's possible I would like for them to stay together. I'm not real sure if they would get along with other dogs the same size or not but they love my mothers toy dogs. I have their vet records, due to a recent move I have documents in a storage box will provide them upon a serious request.

Georgie came to us from a very abusive situation out of state. He was rescued from being used as a bait dog, and as a result, he cannot tolerate other dogs. He LOVES people!!! He needs someone who has experience dealing with abused dogs, and preferably knowledge/experience with rescue pitties. Older children only (12+), not because Georgie would hurt them, but to avoid any accidents if a younger child played to rough or did not understand why Georgie couldn't be with other dogs. GEORGIE ABSOLUTELY HAS TO BE IN A ONE DOG HOUSEHOLD-no exceptions. We would ask to be invited for a home visit prior to finalizing Georgie's adoption. Georgie truly ...     Cocoa, is a Brindle Plott Hound, that weighs about 35lbs and her height is about 2 ft. She is as big as she will get and is still a puppy. She is would love to be inside, but isn't house trained. She is outside trained. She knows the word 'sit', loves to walk by harness and leash and plays well with other dogs. She is around adults and teen kids mostly. She needs a good home that has a larger place to run, and be given more attention than what we can give her and we feel she will train quickly. Cocoa is a sweet puppy and would be a wonderful pet.

Actually, I am trying to list two dogs at once. I have a pair of sisters - Thelma AND Louise. I rescued these girls 2.5 years ago from behind a gas station. They loved EVERYONE at first, until our neighbors started shooting at them, so now they are wary until they know you aren't going to hurt them. They are about 50 to 60 pounds, spayed, females. They are completely attached to each other and so shouldn't be separated. Very sweet and loving - but not toward cats!! They need more room to run and play than I have and can give them. Looking for a home in the country - NOT good yard dogs. I will need to check ad approve a new home, and in an ...     Meet Gracie, a small sweet 10 year old little girl. She weighs about 4 pounds and is being fostered in Mobile, Alabama. Gracie had a vet visit yesterday and came home today. She is now microchipped, spayed and completely tooth free! Eating will be a breeze with soft food. The vet removed a mammary growth and we are waiting to hear the results of that. Fingers crossed it won't be any big deal. Now that she has had two weeks to settle in her personality is really showing. Gracie is blind in her left eye and has a cataract in the right eye limiting her vision but her hearing is excellent. She will walk on a leash with a harness if she can lead. Potty training is going very well. She does not like being put in a crate though she is learning a carrier isn't a bad thing when going on a car ride. Foster mom also has a soft side carrier that really looks like a purse that Gracie prefers to go places in. Gracie is a little snuggle bunny and loves to sleep in the bed with her head on the pillow next to her foster mom. Though she is a senior she still likes to play and has no problem with cats. The perfect home for Gracie would be a quiet one with NO CHILDREN under 14 in the home due to her age and small size. She is only 5 lbs. Gracie also needs a stay at home mom or dad as she does not like to be left alone and will follow you from room to room. Could this be you? (Less)

Max is a total sweetie pie with an affectionate, playful spirit. He LOVES to snuggle and give kisses. Max is just the right size to fit perfectly in any available lap and is convinced that is where he belongs. He is happiest when he is right there with you whatever you're doing. Max is 2 years old and still has that playful puppy spirit. He really enjoys playing with his foster brothers and sisters and we think he would be happiest placed in a home with at least one doggy friend. Max is a wee bit shy towards men and loud children, so a home with young kids would not be the best place for him. He would be best-suited to an active couple or ... (Read More)small family with older children. He will need a home with people that love him enough to walk, play and shower him with love and attention every day. Max is well behaved in the house, he walks great on a leash and enjoys car rides. To prepare for his adoption, he's been neutered and given all of his age appropriate vaccinations. Max has a super soft, fluffy coat that will need regular grooming and care. To find out more about Max please contact his foster mom using the contact info on this site. ***** Friends of cats and dogs preforms a home visit with the prospective animal so out of state/ long distance adoptions will not be considered. Rescue Me ID: 15-01-11-00521Clark (male)

Feist Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This little sweetheart was recently rescued out of Marshall County Animal Control just-in-time and we are so glad we did. He is a wonderful little dog that reminds us of our sweet Patterdale Terrier Lulu. Clark is a sweet, loving, well-tempered, playful dog who also enjoys cuddling, being petted and giving out lots of kisses. Clark is roughly around 7 months old and weighs about 27 pounds. At first we thought he was a lab puppy, but after close examination he is believed to be a possible Patterdale/Terrier mix. We believe fully grown he may reach 35 to 40 pounds, but could end-up being smaller. Clark is already crate trained, is 75% potty ... (Read More)trained and is making great progress on being fully potty trained. He is currently learning to walk on a leash and is working on the 'sit' command. He gets along great with people, other dogs and cats. He currently shares his foster home with both a dog and a cat, both of whom he gets along well with. He especially enjoys playing with his foster sister dog. Clark is looking for his forever home with a family that he can love and be loved by. Ideally he would love to have a fenced in backyard to run and play in and a lap to cuddle in at night.     Hello! My name is Ashley Swindle. I foster for the Shelby and Chilton Co. Humane Society and volunteer for Alabama Relay Rescue. I have contacted several rescue who I usually send dogs to and they are all full or have distemper ISO dogs at the moment. I aquired a small dog (15 pounds) lastnight and he needs a rescue. I could take him to the Shelby Co. Humane Society, but I fear he will be euthanized becuase he's food aggressive. Here's his info:%A0 This sweet man needs a home/rescue! He's currently hanging out at my house. Someone contacted me to get him out of the cold weather lastnight in rural Jemison, AL. He's a bit thin. He melts in ... (Read More)your arms when he has your attention (3 He's small/medium and loves people! He's 100% mutt (my favorite breed). He has a dominant personality around my dogs. He doesn't bite them, just shows dominance (probably becuase he's not neutered). He is food aggressive to other dogs (growls), but I can rub him and stick my hand in his food with no problem. He just needs to be worked with a bit. He would be a wonderful inside or outside dog. He doesn't mind my cat or puppies. He's probably around 2 years old. (Less)

Merryweather is a sweet but shy pit mix. She came from a high shelter in Georgia where she was taken from her owner because he was trying to sell her to a known dog fighter. She is very very submissive by nature and will come to you with her head down. She does great with other dogs but not cats/kittens as she plays too rough with them. She is almost a year old now and has been with us for a while. She needs a special person that can teach her that ... (Read More)people are still good and will show her love. She would love a fenced yard where she can run and play and a soft bed at night so she feels safe. Please consider her as a possible new family member because she deserves a loving home. (Less)

Bull Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Female Dogs Only, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Shadow is a very good dog. Very lovable. He is a Pit Bull. Once he is spayed and neutered he will be a very passive nature. He is dominant. Very protective but very loving. He has been a great addition to our family since my wife's dad passed. We were told to buy a pet and we have not regretted our decision.

Rescue Me ID: 15-01-02-00343Zeke (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Male Dogs Only, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Zeke showed up at our door around four months ago. We thought we could keep him; he gets along great with our two year old dog, as long as there are no bones to fight over, but he harasses our ten year old dog. He's submissive but becomes somewhat aggressive. He's been neutered, has his current shots, and he has a life time license. We think he is about six months old. He appears to be a blue heeler mix. He is a sweet, cuddly, affectionate boy, but he gets competitive with other dogs and children. He'd be great in a one-dog home. He is mostly house-trained, as well, only occasional accidents.

Black and Tan Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Charlene would make a great dog for a KISS fan/family. She does a great Gene Simmons impersonation whenever we break out the camera, and she has some neat 'stage make-up' with her different colored eyes. But, even if you aren't a hard rocker Charlene would still make a rockin' addition to your family! She is around 2 years old, already spayed, UTD on her rabies vaccine, and is available for adoption from Second Chance Shelter in Boaz, AL for $30 adoption fee.

Black and Tan Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive,
 Abused/Neglected

Macy has escaped being put down twice at two different facilities. At the second one she gave birth to 7 wonderful puppies hours before being put to sleep which gave me time to save her and her puppies from being put to sleep. Now all of the puppies are in wonderful homes and now it's mamas turn. She's extremely sweet and loving and great with my current dogs but she isn't good with cats. She is up to date on vaccines and spayed. She is kennel and house trained and walks great on a leash. She has clearly been abused and was a skeleton when I got her but she now is in excellent health and ready for her forever home. Please contact me if you ... (Read More)are interested! (Less)
