This is Skylar. My husband and I had to move in with family and we can't keep our two dogs. We are trying to find forever homes for Skylar and her brother Zephyr. (He has a post on him as well) Skylar has wolf gray colorings, and has bi-eyes. She has one blue eye, and one tootsy roll colored eye. She has no health issues. She is 1 year and 4 months old (16 months). She weighs 65 lb.s, and is up to date on all shots. She is also spayed, and is microchipped. She is well socialized/and raised with people with all ages. (baby - very very old) She LOVES children. Her nickname is 'mama's' because she is ALWAYS with or checking on our daughter who ... (Read More)will soon be 3. She is great with people, even more so with children. She has NEVER shown any type of aggression with any people, especially children. She is a cuddle bug, literally. She likes to sleep with you on your bed. (she likes to stretch out and sleep on her back or side, while using one of your pillows as her own.) Or she'll sleep at the end curled up with her brother, or on her pillow. If it is too hot inside she will go sleep in the back yard at night. She LOVES TO TALK! She is very vocal about everything! If she does not get the exercise or attention she needs (and wants) she will become destructive, and get her brother in on it. She knows how to climb ladders, she WILL climb your book shelf if you have something on it worth getting. i,e. dog treats. She can't open up sliding back doors like her brother, but she does know how to open cupboards, latch doors, and she can jump very high. We've never had an issue with either her, or Zephyr, climbing and jumping fences. We've had her climb under a loose fence before, but other than that no issues there. She does like to dig - only dirt though. She never dug up our grass, like I said only dirt. She will take most her dog treats you give her and she will go bury them in her stash in the back yard. She has what look like mini craters in our back yard that she's dug. (When she gets hot at night she'll go sleep in one in the back yard) If you don't give her enough exercise or attention, watch out. They will become destructive the moment you either turn your back, or go to sleep. They will not do it with you right there. They're VERY smart and cunning. If you upset them, you'll know about it. If you don't see things missing, you know they got upset with you because when you go to say hi - they'll hide. It's because they know they did something they shouldn't have, and that although you're happy now - you won't be once you find out what they took. Usually in the form of your shoes, your phone, a mouse, maybe a pillow, if you don't keep your dirty laundry in a basket with a lid, that goes for trash as well, (must be in a container with a lid - non rotating. Must be big enough that they won't simply knock down to get into) If your missing items are not under or on top of your bed, or strewn about, they will be in the back yard. (We got otter cases for our cell phones. They took my husbands and burried it after playing catch with mine in the snow. The cases protected the phones and came out unscathed - we highly recommend these phone covers) Now, by no means am I trying to make them out to be terrible dogs. They are NOT! They are loving, very smart, independent, and one of a kind dogs. Just like people you take the bad bits with the good. You have to have a sense of humor with them. They do get destructive when their needs are not meant, keep that in mind. All that I listed above. They LOVE walks and car rides. They both love people, but Skylar is the one who LOVES children. Especially little kids. They LOVE to talk and rough house with each other. When they get rowdy we put them outside because other wise they will be jumping from couch to couch, or off your bed, etc. We allowed them on our couches occasionally, but they liked to take naps on our liviing room floor. She will cry if she is taken away from her brother, or if you leave occasionally she will cry. She knows some commands such as sit, come stay, lay down, shake, leave it/no. She loves treats, and to cuddle. She has also been raised with our cat. She will chase and chase and chase the cat, and when caught she will nibble on her. We're looking for a home that will hopefully take them both. We're trying to keep them together. They need to go to someone who owns their own house who has a large fenced in yard. It's not a NEED or a MUST, but it would be very beneficial for Skylar to go to a home that has younger children. She really really loves little kids, especially our daughter. They've been buddies since Skylar was 8 weeks old. Slept together, did everything together. Skylar spends her days with our daughter, or following her around. (Will also be making a post for her) Zephyr is Malamute and Husky mix. He is 1 year and 4 months old (16 months). He weighs 85 lb.s He is not neutered. He is up to date on all shots. He is microchipped. He has a coat with Wolf-Gray coloring, and teddy bear eyes. He is healthy but does require medicine that you give to him in his food once a day. It's $40.00 for a months worth of the medicine. The medicine is to keep his bowel movements solid, and helps with gastro intestinal health. Without the ... (Read More)medicine he has diarrhea. He is great with people. He has never shown any type of aggression to any person before. Zephyr has been socialized and raised around people of all ages. (baby - very very old). He knows some commands such as sit, stay, lay down, come, shake, and no/leave it. He does okay on a leash, however, he is used to us taking him to a very large dog park in town where we walk him and his sister off leash. When I take him on walks by where we live, I have one medium length leash, and when we get to trails I use a very long one of 20 ft' or so. Zephyr is VERY VERY smart. He is average in energy, but still needs a good walk every day. He can climb ladders, turn water on from outside water faucets. He can and will open a sliding glass door to go outside. (A piece of wood in the door will not lock it, he'll take it out) He can also open doors that have latches (think of screen doors), and some doors that have round door knobs. He can also open some cupboards and when he was a puppy, opened our fridge. Zephyr has also been raised around cats. He will chase and chase and chase the cat, and when/if he catches her he will do a nibbling type thing on the cat. Which is not him trying to eat the cat, we've found he's trying to get the cat to play with him. At night he likes to sleep on your bed, usually curled up at the bottom. Or will sleep on his pillow. If it's too warm for him, he'll go open the door outside and sleep in the back yard. We are hoping we can find a home that will be able to take both him and his sister. They're bonded and both will cry if one is taken from the other. Occasionally he will also cry if you put him outside, and he wants to be in with you. He is not a one dog x one person kind of dog. He doesn't stray far from his breed, they're pack animals. He needs to be with other dogs, and with people. He needs to go to a home that you own (I say own because many places will not rent to someone owning a husky/malamute. It's much safer for them and we'd feel more secure about his new home knowing there was no risk of them having to find a new home later down the road) As previously stated we're looking for a forever home for them. You need to have a large, fenced in yard. Be able to give him the time and attention he not only needs but deserves. They're not yard ornaments. We all know beings that are just quiet by nature. They tend to be observers first and then slowly inch their way into your heart. That would be Percy. This truly stunning Schnauzer was rescued from a Texas shelter by a Farfel's volunteer. He was so quiet ...no treats, no toys...no fun. Her previous guardian indicated a history of intermittently growling at strangers (mostly men). The previous guardian reported that outside these instances she was generally successful with adults and children. She can be housed successfully with other small dogs, but we have not attempted to introduce her to any large breeds. Ella's urinary incontinence is well controlled with medication. She takes Proin twice daily and DES once weekly. Our veterinarian scored Ella's ... (Read More)Medial Patellar Luxations as a 1/4 on her right leg and a 2/4 on her left leg. Ella's medical issues are pretty minor in the scheme of things. We don't typically recommend surgery for luxating patellas in small dogs where the condition isn't causing a problem. Our consulting orthopedic practice also doesn't recommend surgery. We've had adopters take a new pet to the vet and luxation was diagnosed and surgery recommended for a completely non-painful, intermittent condition. I can't think of a case in the last MANY years of a small dog that surgery was performed on an adoption dog. Her urinary incontinence is controlled and she may even be able to be weaned off all meds over time - consider time in many months to years. The meds are CHEAP!! We had her DES filled since it wasn't sent with her at surrender. A year's supply for $30 --- we had Monument Pharmacy compound it. I just priced the Proin thru our vet clinic and 60 tablets is $19.50 - this will last 2 months. There would also be routine exam charges +/- tax applied. Our Red Tri Aussie will be 6 on July 16th. He has had seizures for the last 4 3/4 years. When I was walking him through our old neighborhood when he was around 1 1/2 we were attacked by a huge dog. No blood, no puncture wounds, but scared to say the least. The next morning at 5 am he has his first seizure. He has been on Potassium Bromide for almost 4 years and just recently added the phenobarbital as well, as he had started to have clusters of seizures around 5-6 in a 24 hour period. Listens well, well as long as it is not right after a seizure..the last few times he has had the clusters he has had a hard time with his back legs as far a getting mobile, he can do it, it just takes him a little extra time. Meeting outside and on hikes is best. Inka is pretty well trained, but may need some behavioral work, unless you are experienced in working with problem-behavior dogs. She is trained to run beside a bike(it has been awhile since she has done so) and she would love nothing more than to have a disciplined, alpha owner with dog experience who can let her know exactly what they want her to do.
