We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable young dog. They're new and fresh with every possibility open to them. That's the case unless they're in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space. We're so grateful for the efforts of our New Mexico rescuer in saving Miles...she could see that he was a kind being that had been terribly mistreated and in so much pain. Miles was found as a stray on the streets of an impoverished area of new Mexico. As a Pug (with perhaps a bit of something else in the mix), Miles was a desirable dog to breed for puppies that they can sell or exchange for food. Often when it's time for ... (Read More)these small-scale breeders to move on, they dump their dogs. Miles may very well have been a victim of this behavior. When dogs are found on the streets by animal control officers (depending on the morality of the officer) they can be treated very aggressively..often with a catch pole. Sadly, Miles was found by an officer at the end of the day..and clearly at the end of the officer's ability to control himself. Miles was thrown against the side of the truck in a vicious way, resulting in a very painful broken leg. Miles was brought to the shelter, processed and put into a cage with no regard for his pitiful cries of pain. It was several days later that Farfel's Rescue was made aware of the plight of this poor Pug. Arrangements were immediately made to overnight pain meds from Boulder to the shelter and to set up an appointment at the local NM vet for xrays and a setting of the leg. We're very grateful for the help of our rescuer in getting Miles the attention that he desperately deserves. Miles is a beautiful Pugx (with a very sweet soul) that finally deserves the love and compassion that has been lacking in his short life. At 12 - 18 months old and just about 18 lbs, Miles has all the potential to be a loyal and loving best friend. Farfel's is seeking a very nurturing and Pug-loving family to welcome Miles into their home and hearts. They will love and understand dogs well enough to offer Miles the time to heal (both physically and emotionally). Through this healing (and bonding) period, Miles will come to understand that he's a very lovable and respected guy with so much to offer a family (or individual). We're hoping to find a family for Miles that is searching for a full-time best friend. Together they will grow to be each other's trusted companion. Miles would be overjoyed with hiking along Colorado paths and enjoying the sunshine with his people. She's very clear that Miles will be a wonderful and bonded family member when he has love and nurturing as a part of his life. Positive reinforcement group training classes are a gift to a dog as well as their family. It's a true bonding experience that results in a respectful relationship where the dog views their human as their leader. Miles will learn his commands and behaviors that are necessary for a dog to be welcome out in the world. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of positive reinforcement (force free) trainers in your area. Miles has the stunning beige coat (that you just want to pet all the time) that's consistent with his breed. He will require a commitment to periodic sudsy baths and brushing combined with great nutrition (a daily salmon oil supplement is so important for lifelong health and coat care) to keep Miles coat healthy and silky-soft. Miles won't be neutered when he arrives in Denver - while we request it, there just aren't enough vets to cover the needs of the vast number of homeless dogs in this industrial area of New Mexico. Poor Beethoven was put in the position of having to share his family with an extremely dog-aggressive and territorial Corgi. Beethoven was a newcomer to the home and from the first moment was never accepted by the older dog. It was a kindness that the family made the decision to rehome Beethoven. Beethoven has exhibited no behavioral issues at all since he's been in my home! He's a cuddly, well-behaved sweetie-pie that's great (and loves playing and snuggling) with my 2 small dogs and my 12 year old twin daughters. Beethoven loves playing and is entertaining in his silly antics, young energy and the huge love he wants to show to everyone he knows. His story is all too common when things don't work out due to the aggression of another household dog. Beethoven's family couldn't ignore his adorable manner and desire to bond with anyone who would be his best friend. Beethoven's foster opened her home to him while waiting for this sweet guy's transport to a new life in Colorado. Beethoven may initially be a bit disoriented due to lots of change..but give him a moment (a belly rub and yummy treats are helpful) and he inches just a bit closer to a welcoming lap. Before you know it he's gently loving you with a soft kiss. If you suggest a walk or backyard play to this sweet guy...off he goes for some serious fun. Beethoven's rescuer (who quickly fell in love with this silly guy) recognized all of this and knew that there was a home out there that would love, respect and make this little guy a vital member of their family. Beethoven would do well with anyone who's invested in spending time with their pup. He's so pleasant and portable that he can be a part of any adventure....it can be a walk or hike, a visit with friends, a car ride, vacation or just an afternoon spending time together plopped down on the couch - all of this would speak to Beethoven's temperament. We aren't open to a home where everyone spends their days working full-time outside of the home....we'd like Beethoven to get more time and attention than is possible with that lifestyle. When our compassionate New Mexico rescuer got a phone call about a Wheaten Terrier mix that was living in inhumane conditions and needed rescue, she went out to investigate. What she found was a gorgeous dog that appeared to have the ability to rise above his circumstances. He approached his savior with a hopeful smile that some petting and kindness were going to follow. He accepted treats and a long belly rub with gratitude...his kind eyes (with so much wisdom) seemed to search our rescuer's face...could she be the help that he has needed for so long? Farfel's Rescue immediately got a call from our rescuer describing how incredibly cute and sweet this Wheaten Terrier mix is..and the need to find him a special forever family that would love and respect him. We immediately agreed and Forrest became a very treasured Farfel's dog. He earned a ticket to a wonderful new life in Colorado with his great temperament. At just about 18 - 24 months old and 25 lbs (please note that these are approximations, there will be an update after vetting on final estimate of age/weight), this very beautiful pup is a blank slate waiting for positive input and guidance to be the best dog he's capable of being. We'd love to match Forrest to a family that will spend lots of time with this wonderful companion. He's a perfect size to accompany his family just about anywhere..a long hike through the mountains or a car ride to an outdoor adventure would speak to the nature of this wonderful dog. Positive reinforcement group obedience class will not only provide socialization and obedience skills...but will cement the relationship between Forrest and his family. He's so smart that he's a natural to succeed in learning his skills...and would be so excited at his success! Farfel's is happy to provide a list of force-free trainers in your area. It's not that he actively doesn't like young kids..it just appears that Forrest is more comfortable around quieter energy. Retirees or a person working at home would be perfect for this guy. He would thrive on the time and attention that these groups often put into their pets. Forrest , once bonded, will be a loyal and very loving companion....that makes him very easy to spend time with just enjoying the wonders of life in Colorado. Forrest would also enjoy time with dogs of similar size who can be gentle playmates. When you're a smaller dog, you can be intimidated by larger, rambunctious playmates. Forrest is a very happy guy once he's comfortable...a bit of patience, treats and belly rubs will truly get this guy's attention as he's had far too little of all in his life. Forrest 's foster mom is very happy to report that Forrest is coming out of his shell more each day...he's blossoming. She's very clear that Forrest will be a wonderful and bonded family member when he has love and nurturing as a part of his life. Forrest won't be neutered when he arrives in Denver - while we request it, there just aren't enough vets to cover the needs of the vast number of homeless dogs in this industrial area of New Mexico. Forrest has the softest, non-shedding (or very lightly shedding coat..we'll know for certain after he gets a sudsy bath) that you just want to pet all the time. When a shelter volunteer first met Moss, she was struck first by his cuteness..and then his amazing blue-green eyes..how could you not be? His curious and very affectionate personality (so typical of a happy and well-socialized puppy) became the entertainment of the day at the shelter. Moss was so silly and cute that you just had to periodically hug him. As hope seemed to fade away for Moss, Farfel's got a message that this beautiful puppy was very urgent and close to euthanasia for space. Through the love and immediate action of rescuers in Texas, Moss's life was saved at the very last second. From that minute forth, he has been nothing ... (Read More)but a delight for his foster, her 12 year old twins and their 2 dogs! Moss is so super-smart (very indicative of his breed mix) and has so much love to give that he's fit into his foster home perfectly. Moss has been identified by the Texas shelter and local vet as a 7 month old, 28 lb Australian Shepherd/Cattle Dog puppy (anticipated to be approximately 32 - 35 lbs when full-grown). We can't guarantee that this is Moss's mix but we can't really see other breeds in this very beautiful and engaging puppy. We are searching for a very loving, dog-crazy home for this great dog. As he learns his skills in a positive and respectful environment, Moss will develop a very strong bond with his family. We feel strongly that Moss would be overjoyed in a situation where his people are present...it can be a retired couple or individual who has the energy and patience for a young pup. Or a younger family that works part-time or from the home with older dog-crazy children would be great as well. Moss is an excellent candidate for positive reinforcement group training class...this will mold him into a well-behaved and bonded adult companion. It will also result in a dog that respects his people as his leaders. Moss will learn skills through training that promote good behavior and peaceful relationships with humans and dogs. It's also very important that Moss is given mental stimulation and lots of exercise. It's never too early for a puppy to start learning leash manners on the incredible trails of Colorado....these behavioral skills will develop Moss into a fit and very loyal companion. We've requested that Moss be neutered prior to his transport to Colorado. We're not optimistic that this will occur due to far too few vets in this industrial area of Texas. If it doesn't, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Moss's neutering and microchip if our Denver vet is used. Once Moss's sad shelter hair grows out, he will have the gorgeous and cottony-soft coat consistent with his breed mix.
