Rescue Me ID: 14-04-17-00152Hachi (male)

Poodle    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hachi is 12# and a very loveable guy. There is only one health issue. For the past 2 years I have had to put drops in his eyes. He does not produce tears on his own. I have a supply of the two that come from Walmart for $4/each but the third comes from a compounding pharmacy and after losing my job almost 2 years ago about 6 months ago I had to stop using it since it was too expensive for me to afford. I started using an OTC liquid tears and they worked pretty good up until this week. They are not helping any more. There is only one Rx left and it took me the past 6 months to save to get it since it is $63 a bottle. I can't afford ... (Read More)the vet nor the medicine and don't want him to go blind. I would like to find someone that can afford to keep him on his drops. He tolerates you putting the drops in even though he doesn't like it. He is a loving gentlemen. He likes to sleep with you at night right up against your chest and loves to lay on your lap. His drops go in 4x day. He has toys he plays with and he can use a doggie door. When I am not here I crate him. I have only my SS coming in so there isn't a lot left over in the month and no way I can afford the vet or the meds from the compounding pharmacy. I just want a good home for him. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-04-15-00312Peggy (female)

American Staffordshire Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Sweet Peggy is being fostered in Delaware, but you can contact the rescue directly for an application at: pals@psknet.com. Peggy has been in a foster home for far too long. She is a sweet girl and is fairly low energy so if you're looking for a companion to be a couch potato with you, this is your girl. She's very comfortable in her foster home and is completely housebroken and can easily be left for 5-6 hours if needed. She likes to chill out on the bed and watch TV (especially the Wendy Williams show!) while you're out. We need to find an adopter who will be especially nurturing with her since she's sure to be nervous at the very ... (Read More)beginning. Once she knows she's home, she'll be so easy for you. She's been going to doggie daycare and likes other dogs but can be a little bossy. She's been living with 3 cats: one she ignores, one she likes to chase a bit and one is her BFF and they sleep together. She's been around teenagers, but not small children. She likes to 'suck' on a blanket so we leave one on the couch for her and one on the bed that are just hers. Otherwise, she's very good about not picking up things she shouldn't. Peggy had a very hard beginning - tied outside in all weather without shelter and left to have multiple litters (the babies taken from her) Many times, she didn't have clean water or food. It's no wonder she prefers to hang out inside on the couch! If you think you can give Peggy a chance at the life she deserves, we'd love to hear from you. Thank you! (Less)

Dion: 5 yr old black & tan male, to be neutered in the first week of March, docked tail and uncropped ears. 14', 16 lb. Fully vetted. Rescued from shelter. Dion was an unclaimed stray at the local SPCA. He is a bigger MinPin who loves to play with his toys. He fetches them and is getting better at letting them go with a 'leave it' command. He has learned the word 'outside' and goes to the door now when he hears that word. He has also just learned to give his paw on command. Dion is a mellow dog but needs continued help in overcoming his fear and his guarding behavior with toys and food. He lives with other dogs and he is okay with them. ... (Read More)Every day he makes progress toward overcoming his past and with a strong human leader who is willing to give time and patience, he has the ability to become a wonderful companion. Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

CeeCee: 5 yr old black & tan female, to be spayed 3/4, undocked tail and uncropped ears. 8', 8 lb. Fully vetted. Rescued from shelter. CeeCee is a tiny and affectionate bundle of energy who was an unclaimed stray at the local SPCA. She is getting better every day with her housetraining. She knows the word 'outside' and does a few tricks...she will offer her paw on command. We are working on sit and walking nicely on a leash. She does have a prey drive and goes after cats but they are bigger than she is so no harm is done. She does not have any guarding behavior with toys or food but does tend toward an alpha personality with other dogs. She ... Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected,
 Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

Fedele is a wonderful dog, very protective of his owner. Loves to play catch. He has lots of training and follows instructions. I have him with me until He can go to a good home. He does well with kids but he showed his dominance to my 14 year old daughter who is afraid of him now. His new owner should have experience with other dominant dogs and how to train him. He is very sweet and playful most of the time. He goes to his box by himself if he thinks he has done something wrong.

Black Mouth Cur Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Cody came to us from a small shelter in rural SC. He is living with us as a foster thru EASEL in Ewing, NJ. He is about one year old, weighs about 40 lbs and has the sweetest brown eyes. He is up to date on shots, and is housebroken. He is great with kids and other dogs. He loves to play and run, so would do best living with a family who likes to keep active. We'd also prefer a fenced in yard for Cody, since he loves playing outside. We've had him to a couple training events and he's extremely smart and learns quickly. If you are ready to add a furry friend to your family, and don't want a couch potato, Cody is your boy!!

Dachshund    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello, my name is Maggie and I was rescued by a wonderful lady by the name of Rebecca and her doxie posse on the 12th of December. I was very thin and did not feel well. I had just given birth to 7 pups 8 weeks prior and that had really taken a lot out of me and then being in the shelter I was confused and stressed out over my pups and my new surroundings. Rebecca drove me to Atlanta and my foster mom picked me up, she was going to put me in a kennel crate for the 40 minute ride home, but I crawled right over and snuggled in her lap the whole way home. My foster mom took me to the vet and he said that I had some heartworms and that I ... (Read More)needed to get some groceries in me and a few more pounds before we did any kind of treatment. I also will be getting spayed as well. My foster mom gave me a good bath to get the smell of the shelter off of me. I have some skin allergies and foster mom discovered that a gluten free diet makes me feel so much better. I take a bath really well and smelled so good when she finished. I love my little bed that has a warm blanket that I curl up on. I am a little cold natured and like to wear my sweater as well. My foster mom and dad discovered after a few days that I have a hearing deficit. I can hear some things, like a squeak toy. My mom feels that I might can hear more than I am letting on'|. I am housebroken and will let you know when I need to go outside. My foster mom originally walked me on a leash and now I go out in the fenced yard with my two foster brothers. I follow them out and do my business. I hope you will consider giving me a good place to be loved and live forever. Maggie May is currently being fostered in GA. But,please don't let distance stand in the way of your adoption. LPDR can work with you to have a volunteer transport to assist with transportation or refer you to a paid transport. $35 health certificate required for traveling across state lines (as required by law). PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Delaware
Dogs can make good pets in Delaware if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia Low-Cost Delaware Spay & Neuter Clinics
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.) The dog was the earliest domesticated animal.
