Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lucy should live in a place with a yard to run in. We go for walks frequently and she is most alive when off leash in the woods. She has very good recall and is no danger of running away. Bonds very strongly to humans. She is very snuggly indoors. She has successfully shared a home with another pit mix and a border collie in the past but generally she has a hard time with other dogs indoors. Outside , she often meets other dogs and plays with big dogs. There is some amount of scuffling common if left too long unattended but she has never bitten another dog since living with me ~15 months. She often lunges and barks at younger children. ... (Read More)This often cause the kids to run and cry but kids have never been hurt. I live in town and travel a lot. I think lucy would be much better served by a rural(or big yard) long term home. He's only been around the one young kitten we have but has done well with her... Ozzy needs to go to ahome thatis familiar with his breed and where he would be the only dog... We will also be asking for a verifiable vet reference from whoever may be interested in giving this handsome guy a good forever home .

Rescue Me ID: 17-12-28-00194CARLTON (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Carlton was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 6 December 2013 and has an estimated weight of 13 pounds. He has been listed as a Chihuahua mix. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what breed you think he is. He is located in the kennel building where he does use the dog door to get out to the outside run to do his business. He has never had an accident, made a mess or been destructive at all. Carlton does share a kennel with his friends Chewy and Benji and ... (Read More)they are always playing and wrestling and having fun with each other and the dogs in the runs next to them whilst waiting for playtime. Carlton is very affectionate and loves to get cuddles and his belly rubbed and ear scratched. He loves toys and especially loves to chew on the cow hooves. He gets on great with other dogs of all sizes. We do not have cats at the rescue so are unable to say how he would get on with cats. Carlton is going to need a family that enjoys a somewhat energetic lifestyle. Someone who understand that he will need training and guidance and learns that humans are in charge so boundaries are set. He is going to enjoy an outdoors kind of family who can give him the lifestyle that he needs. Going on road trips, to new places, hikes and adventures and letting him explore the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer will be to his and your benefit. Although a small dog, he is still young and has plenty of energy inside that little body of his. He is going to need a family that understands the importance of basic and advanced training. We advise that families work on their own basic training so that boundaries and expectations can be set and personalities and body language learnt in the process, which will help form a much stronger bond. Carlton will make a great family addition to an experienced family. He is fun, active and very loving and deserves a good family and home to call his own. Carlton is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Rescue Me ID: 17-12-23-00125TRIXIE (female)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Trixie was saved from one of the high kill shelters we work with in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 11 December 2013 and she weighs around 7 pounds. Trixie is listed listed as a Chihuahua. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what breed you think she is. Trixie was taken to the shelter with Woody who is around a month old. We have no idea what relationship they are, but they are comfortable with each other and although play with the other dogs, do like to hang out and snuggle together. Trixie ... (Read More)when she first arrived at the rescue was very fearful and shy. She would bury herself under the blankets and creep around the house when the other dogs were sleeping. After a few days she started to decompress and realize that she is in a safe, loving place and her confidence started to grow. She became a lot more playful with her little buddy Woody and even some of the other smaller dogs. She would jump up on the chair and curl up on my lap or on my shoulder if I was busy working. She became increasingly affectionate. At night she would burrow down under the blankets on the bed and curl up nice and warm, but she has to be touching me. If I moved her to the side, she would get up and snuggle up close again. Trixie is an adorable, loving girl who is now comfortable being around at least 25 dogs of all ages and sizes from 4 pounds up to 120 pounds. She eats, plays and sleeps amongst them. She will enjoys humans company and would make a great lap dog and family addition. Trixie is not house trained as I know, I have x-large dog doors in the house that are too big for her to push through and so she does go to the puppy pee pads I have down for them pups. Although a small dog who will enjoy being carried around, it is important that her family understands the importance of basic and advanced training. We advise that families work on their own basic training so that boundaries and expectations can be set and personalities and body language learnt in the process, which will help form a much stronger bond. She still will need to go on walks and get the socialization and exercise all dogs need. 'We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. Trixie will make a great family addition to an experienced family. She is fun, playful and very loving and deserves a good family and home to call her own. Trixie is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. Rescue Me ID: 17-12-14-00431TABITHA (female)

Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Tabitha was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space. Tabitha is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 4 November 2016 and weighs around 53.00 pounds. She has been listed as a Collie / German Shepherd Dog Mix. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, so it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think she most likely is. Tabitha is great with other dogs, although she can get a little excited at times but is very responsive when a dog barks or growls at her, I do ... (Read More)believe that it is just over stimulation with living with so many young, active dogs. When she is in a family setting with a good routine and some training I do believe that her excitement will reduce for sure. Being a Texas girl this is her first experience of snow and it is definitely something she enjoys. She really has a lot of enjoy and charging around chasing and being chased and diving in the snow she finds a lot of fun. We do not have cats at the rescue, so have no idea how he would act around them. Tabitha is around a year old and she acts as your typical 'teenager' she is high energy, she is extremely smart, she will push your limits, but when she knows that there is no manipulating you and she respects you, then she is an absolutely wonderful dog. She is extremely affectionate, when sitting or lying close by she will lean into you or rest her head on your feet. She would make a great family dog, or companion to someone who wants that special buddy to take everywhere with them. Tabitha as mentioned is full of energy and so a family with an active lifestyle is a huge bonus. She rode great in the car and when she settled down she was happy looking out of the window. She would benefit from lots of road trips and adventures, hiking, trips to the lake, the beach and anywhere that she can burn off some of her energy and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. She will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both Tabitha and her humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. Tabitha is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Rescue Me ID: 17-12-14-00427TRITON (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Triton was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 9 June 2016 and has an estimated weight of 13.80 pounds. He has been listed as a Chihuahua mix. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is. He arrived at the rescue in Sebec on 16th December 2017. When Triton first arrived at the rescue he was extremely shy and scared, he would stay curled up in the corner and sit and watch. He would freeze if I went up to go and stroke him, but was never ... (Read More)aggressive. After a few days, he started to relax a lot more and started to enjoy his petting sessions. After about a week he started wanting to explore and whilst still not at the point where he was ready to wrestle and play with the other dogs his curiosity was taking over his shyness. Over the following few weeks he has truly decompressed and come out of his shell. He will jump up on the coach for cuddles, he will go to one of the several toy baskets and choose a toy to play with, he will play with the other dogs and now more often than not instigate play. He will follow me to the kitchen when it is 'treat time' and hold his own amongst the hustle and bustle with the other dogs. Triton can be a bit growly when he has a toy, a hoof, a horn or a treat. He has never been aggressive but doesn't want other dogs coming near him whilst he is eating or playing with his toy. He is good playing with other dogs and toys, but this is more when he has a toy on his own. He has tried to intimidate the other dogs by going up to them and staring and having a little growl whilst they have something he wants, even with the German Shepherds, but this generally falls on deaf ears and when he knows they are not going to give up what they have to him he will go on the hunt for something else to entertain himself. Again he is not aggressive, but he does like his own space when he has something. He has never bitten or attacked any other dogs and I am able to take anything away from him at any time I please with no response. At first Triton was doing his business near the patio door, then as he started to explore he would use the pee pads I have down for a few puppies and since his confidence has grown he uses the dog door and comes and goes in and out as he pleases. I always recommend that families expect some accidents as it is a stressful transition and until dogs get settled and learn their new routine they may have a few accidents. Although Triton is a small dog he is still young and an active lifestyle would suit him. I do not know how he is on the leash and so the adopter must be prepared for some work with training him, once he has learnt to trust and happy and settled in his new life I do believe he will become someone's shadow and enjoy being social and adventurous. So a family that enjoys a somewhat active lifestyle would be beneficial. He is going to need a family that understands the importance of basic and advanced training. We advise that families work on their own basic training so that boundaries and expectations can be set and personalities and body language learnt in the process, which will help form a much stronger bond. Triton will make a great family addition to an experienced family who understands that he might need time to adapt and he might be nervous and unsure initially but know that he has huge potential once allowed to decompress and feel safe and loved. He is fun, active and very loving and deserves a good family and home to call his own. Triton is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Chihuahua Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Charlie was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 6 November 2016 and has an estimated weight of 10 pounds. Charlie has been listed as a Chihuahua. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think her breed/s is. Charlie is a sweet girl, she is very quiet and gentle although is gaining confidence here at the rescue and getting out and about a lot more. Once she feels confident she really warms up and enjoys cuddles, ear scratches and belly ... (Read More)rubs. She would love to sit on someone's lap on a nice comfy chair or couch and get all the love that she has missed over the years. Charlie was located in the kennel building and didn't use the dog door, it has a double-flapped dog door for medium/large sized dogs so she might not have pushed enough to get through, or it might have been that it is just extremely cold here in Maine with lots of snow and ice that put her off going out. I have since moved Charlie and her kennel buddies over into the shop where there is a lot more space for them and she is doing fine and using the pee-pads, they do not have access to outside unless i take them out at the moment. Due to this i cannot really say if she is house-trained or not. I would think once on a schedule and a routine of going out she will have no problem, in the mean time, pee-pads would always be a good idea to start the training. i feel it is always best to expect a few accidents and a bit of work and then if she is house-trained then it is a bonus. Charlie is fine with the other dogs, being around big dogs doesn't bother her, but she isn't the dog that wants to run, wrestle and play with them all. She is definitely more a lap/human dog and is pretty nervous initially, but with time and a little patience she does warm up. Chester does share a kennel with his friends Benji and Chewy and they are always playing and wrestling and having fun with each other and the dogs in the runs next to them whilst waiting for playtime. Chester is an active boy who loves to run and explore, being a Texan he has experienced his first snow and after his initial fascination he loved it. He is very affectionate and loves to get cuddles and his belly rubbed and ear scratched. He loves toys and especially loves to chew on the cow hooves. He gets on great with other dogs of all sizes. Rescue Me ID: 17-12-14-00418BAMBI (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Bambi was saved from one of the high kill shelters we work with in Texas, where dogs generally get just 3 days to be saved before they are killed. She was extremey malnourished and had recently had puppies that the shelter had not found when she was picked up. Bambi is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and microchipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 1 March 2015 and at the time of rescue weighed 22.50 pounds. She has been listed as a Pit Bull Terrier mix. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is. She arrived at the rescue in Sebec on 16th ... (Read More)December 2017. Since being at the rescue Bambi has gained a good amount of weight and is clearly feeling good and is a very happy girl, wanting to make up for the missed happy life she should have had as a puppy. She is very high energy and needs a strong alpha family. Bambi is located in the kennel building and shares her kennel with a small/medium chihuahua mix. She has a kennel mate so she has a playmate to keep her active and stop her from getting bored. I do believe she has potential to be disruptive (chewing) if she gets bored. She does chew and destroy toys so only highly durable toys are recommended. She loves squeaky toys, but de-squeaks them within minutes. She uses the dog door to go out into the run to do her business and has never had an accident in her kennel. Bambi has not had any kind of formal training but he is very smart and responsive and can be relatively well mannered after she has gotten rid of some of her energy. She is still very excitable and does jump up initially, she walks ok on the leash, but as with all rescue dogs the more leash walking he gets, the better she will become. Out of the rescue environment where she is getting the attention and mental and physical exercise and stimulation that she needs, I do think she will calm down a lot. She is bursting with love and excitement and clearly wants to explore and do all she can. She is like the teenager who would climb down the drain-pipe to get out - she is not bad, or aggressive, she just wants to have fun. Bambi has not shown any kind of aggression ever, with humans or other dogs. She does have alpha tendencies when with a group of dogs, but she has not been aggressive, just assertive. I do not think she would challenge a strong alpha dog, but will step up if she is amongst more submissive dogs. Bambi is a total love bug with humans and just wants to run and play and love and hug and give kisses, then run and play some more. She has been around small children and other than her being bouncy and active she settled down and loved them stroking and making a fuss of her. Bambi is a young, high energy girl who will need a daily opportunity to get out and expel that high energy, so a family that enjoys a an active lifestyle would be needed. She is also going to need mental stimulation so games, exercise and challenges Someone who understand that she will need training and guidance and learns that humans are in charge so boundaries are set. She is going to enjoy an outdoors kind of family who can give her the lifestyle that she needs. Going on road trips, to new places, hikes and adventures and letting her explore the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer will be to her and your benefit. We advise that families work on their own basic training so that boundaries and expectations can be set and personalities and body language learnt in the process, which will help form a much stronger bond. Being a pit-bull it is extremely important that the family take training and manners extremely seriously as there are people who just want the breed killed off and will use anything as an excuse to report an aggressive dog. Bambi has a strong personality and must know under no uncertain terms that humans are in charge. She is not aggressive just wants to have a lot of fun. 'We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Rescue Me ID: 17-12-14-00414BATMAN (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

BATMAN was saved from one of the high kill shelters we work with in Texas, where dogs generally get just 3 days to be saved before they are killed. BATMAN is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and microchipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 20 April 2016 and has an estimated weight of 30.20 pounds. He has been listed as a Retriever/Shepherd mix. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is. He arrived at the rescue in Sebec on 16th December 2017. The shelter had noted that Batman was an owner surrender due to a biting incident, it was apparently ... (Read More)a 'fear bite' and didn't break the skin. The shelter had no problems with any biting at all and I have not here at the rescue either. It is possible that the family surrendering him used that as an excuse but we will never know so awareness and always using precaution is extremely important. Batman doesn't do well in confinement and in a crate or kennel he can get very barky and somewhat aggressive, but as soon as he is out of confinement he is a wonderful loving dog. So it is highly advised that Batman go to a family that doesn't confine him and if for an emergency situation it became necessary, only people that he knows and trusts approach and deal with him. Whilst in the kennels at the rescue, he was barky with me at first, but soon learnt to trust and was happy for me to go and give him cuddles and fuss and show no aggression at all. I believe that Batman has experienced some kind of abuse whilst in a kennel as he really is a loving compassionate dog, happy to meet everyone when he is not in confinement. Batman didn't know how to take treats and it took a few weeks of working with him to get him to take them from my hand, when offered he would hang his head and look away, however, over the past few weeks he has started to excitedly wait for me to come along and give him his treats. Batman is great with other dogs of all ages and sizes and will play to their level, he has been moved from his kennel to a communal area in the kennel building with another medium sized dog (Mikey) and 6 smaller dogs (Bella, Charlie, Chester, Carlton, Bella and BeBe) and he is wonderful and happy playing and living with them all. When Batman first arrived he didn't use the dog door to go outside to do his business, I showed him how to use it to go outside and he would go outside, but do his business in the kennel. Another sign telling me he has not had a happy life before the rescue, I am happy to report though that now he uses the dog door and has not messed in his kennel for several weeks. He truly has made such amazing progress in the short time he has been here. Allowing him to decompress and adapt has been a huge factor in his transition. Batman is a young, high energy boy who will need a daily opportunity to get out and expel that high energy. I do not know how he is on the leash other than from the kennel building to the shop and so the adopter must be prepared for some work with training him, once he has learnt to trust and happy and settled in his new life I do believe he will become someone's shadow and enjoy being social and adventurous. So a family that enjoys a an active lifestyle would be needed.     Bebe was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. Bebe initially acts and looks a lot older than the shelter has deemed her as (5 years old). Part of this, I believe, is that she has been extremely distressed and scared at all the things that have happened to her in such a short time. The more time I spent with her, she is getting a lot more relaxed and confident. Being in the shop, she is happy to venture around and explore. She will climb up on my knee when I sit on the floor and cuddle up. Bebe loves to chew on the hooves and any treats that we have. She reacted to a few squeaky toys as if she knew what they was, but has not yet started to play with them. She is starting to get a lot more playful and I believe in a loving, family environment when she has settled and knows she is now finally in her forever home, she will thrive and become very playful and a lot of fun. Bebe is great with other dogs and and she doesn't get intimidated by the bigger dogs and if there is a lot of crazy playing, she will just move out of the way. Rescue Me ID: 17-12-14-00408BLUE (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Blue was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 3 March 2017 and has an estimated weight of 14 pounds. Blue has been listed as a Chihuahua. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is. Blue was picked up by animal control with Bella who is slightly smaller than him, but estimated the same date of birth so possibly his sibling. Blue, like his sister is as a little fire-cracker he is so happy and bouncy and full of all love ... (Read More)and affection. He shares a kennel with Bambi and they are both so fun and playful and enjoy each others company. He loves to play with the other dogs although he can get a bit grumpy if another dog wants a toy that he has, but he just gives a warning growl, nothing aggressive. He loves to play Blue is located in the kennel building and does use the dog door to get in and out to do his business and of course see what is going on. We do not have cats at the rescue so cannot comment on how he would behave around them. Blue is great with other dogs and he is eager to run up and meet each and everyone of them that he see's. %BD'%BD%BDWe do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. Blue is going to need a family that is used to small dogs. Someone who understand that she will need training and guidance and learns that humans are in charge so that he doesn't get too much of a handful. A somewhat active family who can give him the lifestyle that he needs. Going on road trips, to new places, hikes and adventures and letting him explore the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer will be to his and your benefit. He is still a puppy and puppies require a lot of work. It is important that her family understands the importance of basic and advanced training. We advise that families work on their own basic training so that boundaries and expectations can be set and personalities and body language learnt in the process, which will help form a much stronger bond. Blue will make a great family addition to an experienced family. He is fun, loves the outdoors and very loving and deserves a good family and home to call his own. Blue is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org Blue is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. Rescue Me ID: 17-12-14-00401HENRY (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Henry was saved from one of the high kill shelters we work with in Texas, where dogs generally get just 3 days to be saved before they are killed. Henry is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and microchipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 25 February 2017 and at the time of rescue weighed 39.00 pounds. He has been listed as a Pit Bull Terrier. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is. He arrived at the rescue in Sebec on 16th December 2017. When Henry arrived at the rescue he was quite thin and had scars and marks all over him. We are not sure ... (Read More)if these injuries are from being used as a bait dog, a fighting dog or maybe even being thrown from a vehicle. All common traits unfortunately in Texas. Although he has clearly endured much suffering, he is one of the most loving, cuddy happy boys there is. Henry didn't go in the kennels due to his condition but came into the house with my dogs and some other rescue's. He settled in immediately and picked up using the dog door and never had an accident or marked in the house. He gets on great with other dogs of all ages and sizes and lives amongst dogs ranging from 4 pound chi puppies to 120 pound German Shepherds. He loves to chase and wrestle and will play at all levels and can be rough with the big dogs and then so gentle with the small dogs allowing them to climb on him or chew on his ear with no concern at all. We do not have cats at the rescue so cannot comment how he will be around them. Henry has not had any kind of formal training but he is very smart and responsive and is very well mannered, he walks ok on the leash, but as with all rescue dogs the more leash walking he gets, the better he will become. Henry has not shown any kind of aggression ever, with humans or other dogs. When people come round to the house he is very welcoming and receptive and is happy for people to love on him and him to give them kisses. He has been around small children around 7 years old was wonderful, he just wants to roll on the floor and play or get cuddles and be able to share all the love that he has. Henry is a young, high energy boy who will need a daily opportunity to get out and expel that high energy, so a family that enjoys a an active lifestyle would be needed. He is also going to need mental stimulation so games, exercise and challenges Someone who understand that he will need training and guidance and learns that humans are in charge so boundaries are set. He is going to enjoy an outdoors kind of family who can give him the lifestyle that he needs. Going on road trips, to new places, hikes and adventures and letting him explore the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer will be to his and your benefit. He is going to need a family that understands the importance of basic and advanced training. We advise that families work on their own basic training so that boundaries and expectations can be set and personalities and body language learnt in the process, which will help form a much stronger bond. Being a pit-bull it is extremely important that the family take training and manners extremely seriously as there are people who just want the breed killed off and will use anything as an excuse to report an aggressive dog. Henry will make a great family addition to an experienced family who understands that he might need time to adapt and he might be nervous and unsure initially but know that he has huge potential once allowed to decompress and feel safe and loved. He is fun, active and very loving and deserves a good family and home to call his own. He deserves a family that helps him forget his horrible life before he was saved and are intent on making lots of fun, loving memories together. Henry is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. Luna is a sweet girl, although she does seem unsure at first if she is allowed to come up and get some affection, so there is a good chance that she has experienced some abuse in her past, but with encouragement she will come up and relishes in the love and attention. Being a Texas girl this is her first experience of snow and it is definitely something she enjoys. She really has a lot of enjoy and charging around chasing and being chased and diving in the snow she finds a lot of fun. We do not have cats at the rescue, so have no idea how he would act around them. Rosie is around a year old and she acts as your typical 'teenager' she is high energy, she is extremely smart, she will push your limits, but when she knows that there is no manipulating you and she respects you, then she is an absolutely wonderful dog. She is extremely affectionate and gets excited at playtime so that she can not only run, but enjoy the love and affection she gives and gets. She would make a great family dog, or companion to someone who wants that special buddy to take everywhere with them. Rosie as mentioned is full of energy and so a family with an active lifestyle is a huge bonus. She rode great in the car and when she settled down she was happy looking out of the window. She would benefit from lots of road trips and adventures, hiking, trips to the lake, the beach and anywhere that she can burn off some of her energy and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. She will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both Rosie and her humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. Rosie is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org Rosie is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. Rescue Me ID: 17-12-14-00386SPOT (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Spot was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space. Spot is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 9 December 2016 and weighs around 37.00 pound. He has been listed as a Catahoula Leopard Dog. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, so it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely. Spot is located in the kennel building and although he is a very high energy boy, he does settle down in the kennel and is well mannered and gentle. He has a lot of ... (Read More)energy he needs to expel and at playtime he runs like he is so happy. Spot does use the dog door to go outside to see what is going on and to do his business and at play time he absolutely loves to go and run and play in the snow. Being a Texas boy, this is his first experience of snow and it is definitely something he enjoys. Spot has been out playing with other dogs and he is fine, with some of the other male dogs, they have their little stand-off but it lasts a few seconds and then they are off exploring and playing. We do not have cats at the rescue, so have no idea how he would act around them. Spot does jump up a lot and this is definitely something that would need to be worked on. He seems to use humans as his spring-board. Spot is really your typical 'teenager' he is high energy, he is extremely smart, he will push your limits, but when he knows that there is no manipulating you and he respects you, then he is an absolutely wonderful dog. Did I mention that he jumps up a lot. However, with some work I have no doubt he will stop this and the rescue environment does feed his energy, when in a home and has a routine I am sure this will not be so much of an issue. He would make a great family dog, or companion to someone who wants that special buddy to take everywhere with them.     Mingus is an amazing dog that we rescued from a high kill shelter in California. The shelter listed him at 7 but we believe him to be closer to 5. This boy was SO sad at the shelter - he broke everyone's heart. He was a neglected mess with terrible ear infections and nasty skin and coat, but that is all behind him now! We have put a smile on his sweet face! Mingus is in foster, and living with big and small dogs, cats, and chickens. Mingus loves ALL! He is working on his indoor skills - this poor boy always lived outside. He is doing great and is a giant lapdog. This boy deserves THE BEST home. If you would like to adopt Mingus, ... German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sweet pup Loki needs a home! We rescued this guy from the Moreno Valley Shelter in CA a few weeks ago, and he arrived 2 weeks ago. Loki is about a year old, or a bit less. He gets along great with other dogs, and LOVES to play. This is a GSD puppy and he has LOTS of energy so he is going to need some consistency and patience - like with ANY GSD pup. Loki is super duper sweet. He's is very skinny so we are working on fattening him up. Loki is with our friends at Kompletely K-9 Dog Training and Rehabilitation learning to walk on the leash! This is a very good boy, and he will be looking for an active family willing to continue his training - ... (Read More)Loki has never lived indoors! Rescue Me ID: 17-11-28-00135Bailee (female)

Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Bailee is such a beautiful and smart dog, weighing in at about 75 pounds. She is a Rhodesian ridgeback and hound mix adopted at 11 months old originally from Turks and Caicos Islands. She is 6 years old and has been in Maine with all female family for 5 years. All of the good things about Bailee are that she loves her dog bed on the floor and is very well behaved inside and stays on her bed much the time while inside. She stays off couches and people beds but would happily sleep on a bed with her person/people if she was allowed. She likes to know what her designated space is. Bailee is moderately protective of her yard and home. She barks ... (Read More)when strangers and guests arrive but will quickly settle especially when requested. She does not challenge and backs down. She is a terrific watch dog and will alert bark. She does great through the night if she is in the quiet country. I am not sure how she would do in the city as she has never lived there. She has great hearing and smell. Bailee is very adaptable, smart and she learns quickly. She is great with a yard full of chickens as long as they don't challenge her food. Bailee loves all veggies from the garden and some cooked and then mixed with her high quality food. She loves to explore outdoors and to go on walks in the woods. She will usually come back on voice command (sometimes delayed). Bailee is medium energy loves to lounge on her bed, or lay outside in the hot sun but just as much loves to go on short 2 mile jogs and moderately/easy hikes. For the first half mile she is not great on a leash but once she tires she is fine. She does like to chase squirrels, bugs and birds so a leash is recommended unless you have a secure wide open area that you are familiar with. She is great in the car and loves to go places. Probably the best thing of all, she loves the snow and to go snowshoeing with her people. Bailee is so lovable, she has the softest floppy ears and loves to be pet/scratched. You will want to spoil her but shouldn't as she is very smart and likes to take over and run the people in her house. She can be anxious and fearful and she is slightly territorial of the things she loves, such FOOD and her space (BED). As a result of her anxiety and territorial behavior, she needs to be in a home without small children (over 12 years old). She may be placed with another dog if he or she is submissive and calm natured. She has not been in a home with cats so that part is unknown. She learned that the chickens were family in two weeks we had her off the leash around them. So she can learn about cats and that they are family not animals to be chased. Bailee actually needs to live in a place that will not spoil her and needs to know her owner is in charge. She is so food motivated and needs portion control. Bailee has always been female owned so a strong female presence would be great and If you set the ground rules from day one and stick with them she will be a wonderful friend.Bailee has not had any formal training but she is so adaptable and keen. Her receptive language is great and knows many commands like 'Sit', 'Wait' and 'Come' 'shake' and 'leave it' but at times can be stubborn and non compliant in an endearing manner.Bailee doesn't ask for much, so it makes you want to give her more, but don't give in. Bailee just needs someone that will give her kind and tough love (not physical tough, but controlling his environment tough). Maybe Bailee is for you...write for more details (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-08-27-00280TIGGER (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Tigger was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 24 July 2016 and she weighs around 30 pounds. Tigger is listed has been listed as a Labrador / Dalmation mix. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is. Tigger is a happy go lucky girl, her tail is always wagging and she always has that contagious smile on her face, so happy to see anyone and share the love and affection. She loves to get her ears scratched and belly ... (Read More)rubbed. She enjoys playing with toys and chewing on cow hooves. She is located in the kennels building and uses the dog door in her kennel to get out to the run to do her business. She has not had any accidents or been destructive whist in the kennel. She shares a kennel with Oreo and they are always playing and wrestling and having fun. She is great with all dogs of all sizes at playtime and loves to run around and chase and be chased. We do NOT have cats at the rescue so cannot comment on how she would be around, or near them. Tigger is a young girl with a lot of energy, we do not have time to work on training at the rescue, but she is responsive. She needs a family that understands she will need training and guidance. An active family who can give her the lifestyle that she needs. Playing ball in the back-yard is fun, but she would benefit from so much more, she is going to need a lot of physical and mental exercise. Going on road trips, to new places, hikes and adventures and letting her explore the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer will be to hers and your benefit. It is important that her family understands the importance of basic and advanced training. We advise that families work on their own basic training so that boundaries and expectations can be set and personalities and body language learnt in the process, which will help form a much stronger bond. Tigger will make a great family addition to an experienced family. She is fun, active and very loving and deserves a good family and home to call her own. Tigger is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org Tigger is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. Rescue Me ID: 17-08-15-00259ADA (female)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

ADA was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 26 May 2017. On 24th July at just under 3 months she weighed just over 10 pounds. ADA has been listed as a GSD/ Husky Mix. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think she breed/s is. Her mother is a petite (35 pound) husky type mix girl White with blue eyes, VICTORIOUS, but there is a chance that ADA is going to be quite a bit bigger than her. 'Ada is still a puppy and will need a dedicated family that has the time and patience to work ... (Read More)and teach her how she is expected to behave. A family who will not get angry or upset if she chews their shoes or has an accident inside. She is a baby and although very smart and responsive, she needs to be guided in her mannerisms and behavior and continue to let her beautiful personality develop. Ada is a sweet, affectionate, playful, high energy fun loving girl. She is great with other dogs and is always chasing and playing rough with her mother Victorious, who is still currently here at the rescue waiting for her forever home. Ada plays great with the other pups that are here. She has learnt to be respectful with the other adult dogs and enjoys their company. She had had little contact with humans when she arrived at the rescue and although is comfortable coming up and snuggling with me, she does take a little while to warm up to strangers. She isn't comfortable getting picked up, or carried around, but there should be not many reasons to do that with her. We do not have cats in the rescue so cannot comment on how she would behave around them. Ada does use the dog door to go outside to do her business although she will not know to let you know if she needs to go outside. Ada is young and high energy and so a family with an active lifestyle is a must. She would benefit from lots of road trips and adventures, hiking, trips to the lake, the beach and anywhere that she can burn off some of her energy and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. She will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both Maddi and her humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. She has not had a collar or leash on and so leash training will definitely need to be worked upon. A family that understands her initial caution of people and new places, that will help her develop her confidence and trust. Ada is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Rescue Me ID: 17-07-21-00306VICTORIOUS (female)

White Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Victorious was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. She had not long since finished nursing pups when we saved her. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 26 June 2015 and has an estimated weight of 38 pounds and is fully grown. Molly has been listed as an German Shepherd Dog/Husky mix. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think her breed/s is. Victorious had two puppies when we saved her, however, we had saved 3 other puppies that were scared and skinny, she took them under ... (Read More)her wing and allowed them to nurse a little before they were strong enough to ween off her. She was nervous initially at the rescue, however, over time and building trust has become happy and friendly. She is very affectionate and loving when she is comfortable with people. She does snatch when taking treats, so she would need some work there and note to yourself to watch your fingers. She is a gorgeous girl with stunning blue eyes and a beautiful white coat, which is more like the coat of a lab than a husky/GSD double coat. She is very active and absolutely loves running around being chased or chasing the other dogs. She is great with all dogs of all sizes and still has a nurturing side when there are puppies around. Her daughter ADA is still here in rescue and they are still close and enjoy playing. She has not had any accidents or been destructive whist here at the rescue. I free feed and she shares with other dogs and has never had any problems. She is house trained in that she uses dogs doors to come and go as she pleases. I do not know if she would know how to let you know she wants to go outside, so that would be something to plan for. I do think that when she first leaves the rescue she will be nervous, she has gained a lot of confidence and feel safe and secure here and it might be a little stressful on her initially, but once she knows she is in a safe place, with a loving family of her own, I am sure it will not take her long to adjust at all. We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. %BD'%BD%BDAs mentioned molly is very affectionate and loves to get cuddles, her belly rubbed and ear scratched. She loves toys and especially loves to chew on the cow hooves. She gets on great with other dogs of all sizes. We do NOT have cats at the rescue so are unable to say how she would get on with cats. She is the type of dog that would follow you to the end of the earth and back and cuddle up as close as she can at the end of the day when she has gained that trust. Victorious is going to need a family that is used to high energy, smart dogs. Someone who understand that she will need training and guidance and learns that humans are in charge so that she doesn't get too much of a handful. An active family who can give her the lifestyle that she needs. She has not had any training as far as we know. Victorious will make a great family addition to an experienced family. She is fun, active and very loving and deserves a good family and home to call her own. Victorious is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. Rescue Me ID: 17-07-06-00314Gunner (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Gunner is a stunning 5 year old AKC registered purebred GSD who came to us as an owner surrender when his owner entered rehab. Gunner had a good life for a couple of years, and even was trained in German. Unfortunately, his owner became a substance abuser, and Gunner's life changed. He was not walked or vetted enough, and rarely left the home. Gunner is friendly, but he does need a strong handler with breed experience, who will commit to Gunner's continued training. He is at a trainer's now getting a refresher course, but he has done what he wanted for several years, so he is strong willed. We will want a home with no small children. ... (Read More)Gunner has met kids and is fine, but he is strong as an ox and can be willful, and he is very energetic. Gunner is very scared of things he hasn't experienced, like the vets, and the groomers - he needs to be muzzled in situations like that. The more Gunner explores the world, though, with his new family the better he will be! If you would like to add this amazing dog to your home and heart please fill out our online application at www.miraclegsdmaine.org. We will not schedule meet & greets without an approved app on file. Applicants should expect to have their veterinary references checked to make sure all current and prior pets have been kept up to date on rabies and distemper, have an annual heartworm test, and are on at least 6 mos. of HW preventative per year during the season. A smart girl for sure. We do not have cats at the rescue so we cannot comment on how she would act near or around them. LAYLA shares her kennel with her friend Maddi (husky mix) and they are constantly playing and wrestling at play time they just run and chase around enjoying the fresh air and being able to run free.     PEPPER was saved from a shelter in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 21 September 2015 and weighs around 28 pounds. We have no idea what breed he is for sure, we just go off what he appears to look like to us, you would need to do the same. PEPPER is a great size boy and is very loving and affectionate when knows he can trust. He can be wary of people initially but give him chance to build up his confidence and learn to trust and he then turns into a love bug. This could take minutes, or it could take days, ... (Read More)so PEPPER is going to need an extra special caring family that will give him time to adapt and put the horrors of his previous life behind him. PEPPER is great with other dogs, and he loves to run and chase or be chased, getting all of that built up energy released. He always seems to be smiling when he is running around. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. PEPPER when he is confident with his new family and home will need some training and we recommend that families spend time with him working on basic obedience and manners, this helps to set boundaries, expectations and allows both PEPPER and his humans to learn more about each others personality and body language. PEPPER is responsive and with consistency and guidance training should be easy and fun. PEPPER rides great in a car and would benefit going on adventures so he can explore lots of new places. He, as with adults is wary when around children, but he has never shown any kind of aggression. It is important that all children understand that he should be given his space and let him build trust and confidence, which I really do not think will take long at all. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. PEPPER is a great size and would benefit from an active family who can take him on lots of walks and adventures and let him explore the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. This would not only give him the physical exercise that he needs, but also the mental stimulation. Then when everyone is home to cuddle up and relax feeling safe, secure and loved. With a little patience and lots of love, it won't take PEPPER long to realize that life can be good and full of love and affection with his new family in his new home. PEPPER is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.     Rufus Breed: Catahoula Leopard Mix Age: 4 years +/-; Neutered Male Weight: 50 pounds Dogs: Yes Cats: Yes Kids: 8+ Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: Massachusetts Rufus is a super nice fella that has a lot of energy. He is a very people-centric dog that wants and loves to please. He really likes other dogs, but some do not like him! Rufus, likes to play and to get others to play he thinks he should bark in their face. As you can imagine, not everyone likes this and some find it very scary! Rufus, just wants to have a great time and tear around and he doesn't get that it is bad etiquette. Rufus has great manners in terms of ... (Read More)house training, his crate and he even knows basic obedience/tricks! He is very, very smart. He is still strong on the leash and is working on leash manners. He will bark like a bad man to get other dogs attention if he sees them, as he is very much about attention. He does have a fear of thunderstorms and fireworks and needs someone to help him during those times. Rufus is going to do best in a very active home, that likes to run, hike, etc. He also will do best with an owner that either will take him to work or works from home; or has a short amount of time away from the home. Rufus' downfall is that he is an escape artist, he can escape from just about any fence anywhere and will do best if he is kept on leash and very active. Rufus is a dog that has a fabulous amount of untapped potential, he just needs the right person to bond with and to bring that shine out! If you are interested in fostering or even adopting Rufus please email SLN2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Maine
Dogs can make good pets in Maine if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
