Belgian Malinois    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rhyner is a neutered 4 year old dog.My husband and I picked him up in New Hampshire when the owner ,my brother in law, became very ill and was in a coma.We have had the dog with us in Maine for over a week but are unable to keep the dog and my brother in law cannot and will not be able care for him. The dog is fine in the house but has not been well socialized when on the leash out doors. My husband has power of attorney and we do not want the dog euthanized. He is a beautiful intelligent animal and with some needed training would be a good pet for someone.

Rescue Me ID: 17-06-18-00189Atossa (female)

Belgian Malinois    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Atossa (pronounced UH-TOE-SUH) is a 7 yr old purebred AKC registered Belgian Malinois whose owner recently passed away, unfortunately. Luckily a friend of the owner's who knew Atossa needed the right kind of home took her in temporarily and reached out to us! Atossa is a little thing - a bit smaller than your average Mal. She is a little nervous about all the changes in her life as you can imagine, so she is going to spend some time with our friend Kris Kompletely K-9 Dog Training and Rehabilitation to help her learn not to be worried! Won't be hard as she is AWESOME. Atossa is only medium energy for a Belgian Malinois - may be due to her ... (Read More)age. She is protective at the door - typical behavior for the breed. She is very sweet as long as you let her approach you and check you out, and her person assures her it is ok. Atossa, in typical Maligator fashion LOVES her ball and toys, and carries them around with her - like security blankets. She seems especially fond of women, and most likely the woman of the household will be her 'person'. She is fine with other dogs upon proper intro. The home Atossa is looking for would be one that doesn't have a ton of strangers in and out. We would probably not place her in a home with small children, because she would probably want to herd them all the time, and she wouldn't get to relax! We would like to see her in a home with a confident person, who is somewhat active. Although she would probably be fine as an only dog, we think she might really like to have another dog to hang out with. This is a very special girl and will really make a nice addition to the right home. If you would like to consider opening your home and heart to Atossa, please fill out our online application to get the approval process started. We will not schedule meet & greets without an approved app on file. Here's the link: www.miraclegsdmaine.org (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-06-18-00187Merik (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Merik is looking for his furever home! We rescued Merik several weeks ago from a kill shelter in CA where he had been abandoned by his owner. We cannot say enough good things about his guy. Merik is quite a presence - he is a big, rangy dog of nearly 100 lbs. He's a gentle giant of about 7-8 yrs old. This dog is amazing in so many ways. He is mellow, super friendly, and housebroken. He likes to lie on his bed, and chew a ball. He's not really interested in chasing it! His foster reports he enjoys lying outside in the shade and chillin'. He walks super great on the leash. He makes friends wherever he goes - the people at the vet's office and ... (Read More)in stores just love him. He's a huge lovebug. Merik is in foster and doing OK with the little dog in the home, once time and care was taken to introduce them safely over a week or so. He also may be fine with larger dogs, but would probably want any other larger dogs in the home to be confident, otherwise he may try to be dominant. He will walk along nicely on a leash with about any dog, but in a home he may try to dominate a more submissive dog. We just adore this amazing and stunning boy. If you are looking for a great companion, and might want to open your home and heart to our Merik, please fill out the online application to get the approval process started. We won't schedule meet & greets without an approved app on file. Here's the link: www.miraclegsdmaine.org (Less)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Innes Breed: Catahoula/Australian Shepherd Mix Age: 3 years +/-; Neutered Male Weight: 65 pounds Dogs: Yes Cats: Yes Kids: Yes Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: Massachusetts Innes is a real gem!! He loves people, is very eager to please and wants to give you all of the kisses he has! Innes excels in an active home. He loves to go for long walks and hikes, and is an excellent running partner. He is great with other dogs, and loves making new friends at the dog park. He would do best with an energetic family who have lots of space for him to run around. And it would be ideal if he has canine or human company most of the ... (Read More)time so he doesn't get lonely. He is house trained and crate trained, and will stay in his crate overnight without even closing the door! He walks pretty well on a leash, but just needs to learn to be a little more polite and not pull towards other dogs when he gets excited about saying hello. Sometimes his excitement can get a little too much for him and he tries to jump up on people to give them kisses. Overall his untapped potential when it comes to training is really astounding. He will make a fantastic companion to the right family. He is a very sweet dog who deserves all of the love and cuddles he can get!! Innes unfortunately did not receive top notch medical care in his last home and is now being treated for Lyme disease, his prognoise is good and you can't even tell that he is sick! When adopted he will come with medication. If you are interested in adopting Innes please email SLN2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. Innes' adoption donation is $300 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada. (Less)

CLAWD is at that goofy age but is also very affectionate and loves to get cuddles and his belly rubbed and ear scratched. He loves toys and especially loves to chew on the cow hooves. He gets on great with other dogs of all sizes. CLAWD has been around dogs since he was just a few weeks old and so he is extremely dog socialized with dogs of all sizes and many different breeds. He is friendly with new people and children. He has not had a collar or leash on and will be initially wary of going to new places, so patience will be needed until trust and confidence with the big wide world has been gained. We do NOT have cats at the rescue so are unable to say how he would get on with cats. CLAWD is going to need a family that is used to big, smart dogs. Who understand that he will need training and guidance and learns that humans are in charge. We advise that families work on their own basic training so that boundaries and expectations can be set and personalities and body language learnt in the process, which will help form a much stronger bond. Going on road trips, to new places, hikes and adventures and letting her explore the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer will be to his and your benefit. CLAWD will make a great family addition, she is fun, active and very loving and deserves a good family and home to call her own. CLAWD is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. We get a lot of interest in puppies and need to be sure families are ready for the hard work puppies bring into the home, who have the time to work with them and ensure they grow up with good manners and a life-long commitment to them. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. Priority is given to approved applications who can come and pick up the dog the soonest so that we can then save another dog from the kill shelters in Texas. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org CLAWD is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. Rescue Me ID: 17-06-10-00108STING (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

'܉'܉'STING was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas with his brother or best friend PRINCE. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 26 May 2014 and has an estimated weight of 75 pounds. STING has been listed as an German Shepherd Dog. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is. WE ARE LOOKING TO ADOPT BOTH BOYS TOGETHER SINCE THEY ARE BONDED. It is important to note that STING is a high energy, intelligent, working breed dog and you really need to be ... (Read More)experienced with this breed, or at least have done a lot of research, have support and confident you have the lifestyle to accommodate this stunning boy. STING is a handsome boy, he does need to gain some weight as he is quite thin, but is eating well at the rescue. He is always laying at the side of my chair if I am inside, or he will be out playing with his brother or best friend PRINCE. STING is very affectionate and loves to get cuddles and his belly rubbed and ear scratched. He loves toys and especially loves to chew on the cow hooves. He gets on great with other dogs of all sizes. We do NOT have cats at the rescue so are unable to say how he would get on with cats. STING does walk on a leash, however, he does pull and is very strong, so it is important that training be carried out on walking nicely on a leash. STING is going to need a family that is used to high energy, smart dogs, preferably someone who is familiar with the shepherd breed. Someone who understand that he will need training and guidance and learns that humans are in charge so that he doesn't get too much of a handful. He is going to need a very active family who can give him the lifestyle that he needs. Playing ball in the back-yard is not enough for this boy, he is going to need a lot of physical and mental exercise. Going on road trips, to new places, hikes and adventures and letting him explore the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer will be to his and your benefit. He is going to need a family that understands the importance of basic and advanced training. We advise that families work on their own basic training so that boundaries and expectations can be set and personalities and body language learnt in the process, which will help form a much stronger bond. STING uses the dog doors to go outside and has had no accidents in the house. STING will make a great family addition to an experienced family. He is fun, active and very loving and deserves a good family and home to call his own. STING is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org STING is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

'܉'܉'SKYE was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas with her sister LADY whom she is bonded with. She is SPAYED, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 3 December 2016 and has an estimated current weight of 26 pounds. SKYE was listed as a Labrador / Great Dane. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think she breed/s is. WE ARE WANTING TO ADOPT SKYE & LADY TOGETHER! SKYE is great with all of the dogs here at the rescue. She loves to run, chase and wrestle with the dogs, although she ... (Read More)generally plays and follows her sister LADY around. SKYE is more of the leader of the two girls, with LADY following her lead. She enjoys chewing on hooves and Kongs when she is having quiet time. She is very affectionate and loves to have her belly rubbed and ears scratched. We do NOT have cats on the rescue so I am not in a position to comment on how he will be with cats. SKYE would suit a relatively active fun family that would take her on adventures and road trips and let her explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. She rides great in the car. She would benefit from a family that has the time to work with her on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both SKYE and her humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. It is best for an interested family to know and understand the Labrador breed, they are great family pets, but are high energy, they get bored easily and are known to be destructive chewers. Tennis balls don't last long as they will pick them apart. Given tough, appropriate toys, lots of mental stimulation and exercise, SKYE will be a great family dog. She has a great personality and her and her sister LADY keep each other entertained and company, which will in turn, help to prevent boredom. SKYE is located in our kennel building with LADY and uses the extreme weather dog door to get in and out to her run. She has not had any accidents in the kennel. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! SKYE will make a great family addition to an experienced family. She is fun, active and very loving and deserves a good family and home to call her own. Rescue Me ID: 17-06-09-00306ABIGAIL (female)

Border Collie    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

ABIGAIL was saved from a shelter in Texas. She has had rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. She has been estimated date of birth of 30 May 2015 and weighs around 42 pounds. She is listed as a Border Collie / Spaniel mix. We have no idea what true breed she is and it is up to you to decide what you think she is. ABIGAIL was nursing 4 puppies when we saved her, but after her puppies were weaned and she had time to adjust she was spayed and is now ready for her own forever home. ABIGAIL is good mum with her puppies and also helps the other mum dogs with their puppies. The ... (Read More)pups are all over 3 months now and she is enjoying not having the responsibility, but still keeps an eye on them and will keep them in check as and when needed. ABIGAIL is a herding breed and she can at times nip at the other dogs to keep the in line, this is not her being aggressive, it is in her nature as a herding dog. She is a high energy girl and is very intelligent and needs a family that has the time and lifestyle to give her not just the physical exercise, but also mental challenges and stimulation to keep this beauty happy. Someone who is familiar with the breed, or working dogs would be a great fit for her. ABIGAIL is a tough girl and will happily put any of the dogs in their place if they step out of line, no matter what breed or what size. She loves to play chill out and relax and will at times enjoy playing with the toys or chewing on the cow hooves. She still plays with her puppies and enjoys their playfulness. ABIGAIL is very affectionate and will lie close to wherever I am. She will climb on the bed and snuggle and loves to be close getting her ears scratched and belly rubbed. She is gentle and loving, but fun and spunky. She rides great in the car and walks nicely on the leash. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how she would be around them. ABIGAIL is responsive, but she is in need of basic and advanced obedience training. We recommend this is done with the family so that ABIGAIL and her humans can all learn each others body language, personality, boundaries and expectations this also helps to build a strong bond and trust with each other. Formal training sessions are good for socialization and meeting other dogs and people. ABIGAIL would benefit from a family that has time to take her on road trips, to places where she can explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. This will help not just with her physical exercise needs, but also her mental stimulation. She has lived a rough life, given birth, lost some of her puppies, but cared for the survivors and now it is her turn to enjoy the life that she deserves. ABIGAIL is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

SAM was saved from a shelter in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 3DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 25 April 2011 and weighs around 75 pounds. MAX has been listed as a German Shepherd Dog. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is. Although SAM is classed as a senior boy, he still has plenty of energy and would love a family that is active and can take him on long walks, hikes and adventures. He rides great in the car and has been friendly with everyone he has met so far. He does ... (Read More)appear to be abused as if I am telling him 'no' to something he will cower, or roll on his back and wave his paw as if wanting to push a hand or object out of the way. It is very sad to see, but I am reassuring him that the life he once knew is over and hopefully he will forget. SAM can be a bit grumpy at times with some of the other dogs, but he is living amongst lots of young puppies and young, energetic dogs so I am sure he gets irritated with them. He has not been aggressive, but has snapped a few times to let the other dogs know he just wants space and to be left alone. SAM is very responsive and clearly just wants to please his owner and be loved for the boy he is. He is a gentle soul and has a lovely laid back personality, he does still need a good amount of exercise as he is a big boy, however, he loves to just lay as close as he can and relax. We do not have cats at the rescue so cannot comment on how he would act around them. ' SAM is located in our kennel building and uses the extreme weather dog door to get in and out of her run. He has not had any accidents in the kennel. SAM, as with all rescue dogs are in need of basic and advanced training and we recommend that families spend time with him working on basic obedience and manners, this helps to set boundaries, expectations and allows both SAM and his humans to learn more about each others personality and body language. I also bring SAM over to the house and he goes outside to do his business. He loves to chew on the cow hooves and is happy sitting in the background watching the other dogs get up to their craziness, although I am sure a more laid back home environment would be much better for him. SAM is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of US $500.     Breed: Catahoula Leopard Mix Age: 2 year old +/-; Spayed Female Weight: 40 pounds Dogs: Yes Cats: Unknown Kids: 8+ Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: Wisconsin Meet Sophia, the sweetest little love bug you could ever hope to welcome into your home! She adores people and is very eager to please. She is very responsive and bonds quickly with the humans who are taking care of her, and once she gets to know you, it takes little more than a motion in her direction or a kind word spoken to get her tail thumping. Sophia is great with other dogs (not cats); she positively adores the 9-year-old Catahoula in her foster home (he took ... (Read More)some convincing, but Sophia eventually won him over with her sweetness and charm!). Sophia is mostly very mellow for her young age, but she puts her puppy silliness on display occasionally when she sprints in circles around the back yard or lies on her back to play 'Patty Cakes' with her paws. Sophia does well with two walks per day (she especially enjoys 'pack' walks with her foster fur buddy!) plus some time to sniff around and luxuriate in a sunny yard or park. Otherwise, she's perfectly content to snuggle as close as she can get to her human and canine family members. Sophia will fit in well with and make a wonderful companion for many types of families. An ideal situation for her will be one in which she has human or canine company most of the time so she won't get lonely. If you're looking to add a perfect bit of spotted cuteness to your family, Sophia's your girl! If you are interested in adopting Sophia please email SLN2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-23-00263TOBY (male)

Miniature Pinscher Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

TOBY was saved from a shelter in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 2 April 2016 and weighs around 18 pounds. We have no idea what breed he is for sure, we just go off what he appears to look like to us, you would need to do the same. TOBY is a great size boy and is very loving and affectionate. He doesn't appear to have had any kind of training, which is very common for younger dogs and he needs to be taught some basic manners. He does jump up in his excitement and this would need to be worked on. TOBY is ... (Read More)great with other dogs, although he can at times be a little irritable due to him being so excitable and jumping on them, but this doesn't last for long and he is soon running off, chasing or being chased. He does have a lot of energy and it is important the family he makes his own understands this and can provide both physical and mental exercise for him. TOBY will definitely need some training and we recommend that families spend time with him working on basic obedience and manners, this helps to set boundaries, expectations and allows both TOBY and his humans to learn more about each others personality and body language. TOBY is responsive and with consistency and guidance training should be easy and fun. TOBY rides great in a car and would benefit going on adventures so he can explore lots of new places. He is good with children although he does get very excitable and jump up, which can easily be trained out of him with consistency by all family members. It is important that all children understand he is not a toy and will need his own space at times, but for the most part would love to play and snuggle with them. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. TOBY is a great size for a family and would benefit from an active family who can take him on lots of walks and adventures and let him explore the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. This would not only give him the physical exercise that he needs, but also the mental stimulation. Then when everyone is home to cuddle up and relax feeling safe, secure and loved. TOBY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org TOBY is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen. (Less)

Schipperke Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

PEPPER was saved from a shelter in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 21 September 2015 and weighs around 28 pounds. We have no idea what breed he is for sure, we just go off what he appears to look like to us, you would need to do the same. PEPPER is a great size boy and is very loving and affectionate when knows he can trust. He can be wary of people initially but give him chance to build up his confidence and learn to trust and he then turns into a love bug. This could take minutes, or it could take days, ... (Read More)so PEPPER is going to need an extra special caring family that will give him time to adapt and put the horrors of his previous life behind him. PEPPER is great with other dogs, and he loves to run and chase or be chased, getting all of that built up energy released. He always seems to be smiling when he is running around. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. PEPPER when he is confident with his new family and home will need some training and we recommend that families spend time with him working on basic obedience and manners, this helps to set boundaries, expectations and allows both PEPPER and his humans to learn more about each others personality and body language. PEPPER is responsive and with consistency and guidance training should be easy and fun. PEPPER rides great in a car and would benefit going on adventures so he can explore lots of new places. He, as with adults is wary when around children, but he has never shown any kind of aggression. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. PEPPER is a great size and would benefit from an active family who can take him on lots of walks and adventures and let him explore the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. Chihuahua Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

HAROLD was saved from a shelter in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 12 April 2015 and weighs around 10 pounds. We do not know for sure the breed of the dogs we save, we just guess from their appearance, if you think they are a different breed, then that is what they most likely are. HAROLD is a sweet boy, who can get a little overwhelmed at the rescue. He shares a pen with Ginger who is similar size and very quiet and they get along great. HAROLD clearly wants to come out and play and run around, but he is ... (Read More)apprehensive at first. Once he feels like he is safe and will be ok, he comes out to explore and if I am sat down will come up to climb on my knee and get lots of love and affection, which he obviously enjoys and gives back his love and kisses. HAROLD has only been around a few small dogs and he does great with them. He can be nervous of new things and places initially and so will need a patient family to help him build his confidence. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. HAROLD, as like all dogs are in need to basic and advanced training. We recommend families work together with him so that both humans and HAROLD can learn each others personalities, body language and have boundaries and expectations set. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-23-00203COOPER (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

COOPER was saved from a shelter in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 21 June 2015 and weighs around 25 pounds. We do not know for sure what breeds the dogs are that we save, we guess by their looks, but often people have different opinions to breeds they look like, so please whatever you think he is, could well be right. COOPER is a handsome, affectionate, active boy. He can be a little shy on initial meeting, but soon warms up, especially when there are treats to be tasted. He is good with most dogs, but ... (Read More)does seem to have a slight alpha tendency. This might be due to the rescue environment, but he is not a strong, or aggressive alpha and I would think he would back down to a more dominant alpha dog. He does play with other dogs and shares a pen and there have been no issues or problems. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. COOPER does enjoy his ears scratched and chest rubbed, he will roll on his back for belly rubs and will give back lots of love and kisses. He is an active boy and so will need lots of exercise both mentally and physically to ensure all his needs are met. COOPER is in need of a fun, active family who can take him on adventures to explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. This will not only help with meeting his physical needs, but also stimulate his mind which is as important as his physical needs. COOPER, as with all rescue dogs is in need of some basic and advanced obedience training. We recommend that the family work with him so that both human and COOPER can learn each other's body language, personality, expectations and boundaries. Going to formal classes are good for socialization and going to new places, but initial training should begin at home with all family members. COOPER is a nice size family dog, great for a family with kids who are happy to play with him and all tire each other out. With some manners, obedience and him feeling the safety, security and love of his own family and home this boy would be the perfect addition to your family. COOPER is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-23-00201BENTLEY (male)

Maltese Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

BENTLEY was saved from a shelter in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 20 April 2012 and weighs around 11 pounds. The paperwork I have from the vets and shelter have BENTLEY aged as 2yrs, 4yrs and 10 yrs. At our annual state inspection, I asked the veterinarian to have a look at him to see what age she thought he was, she estimated him to be between 4-6 years. BENTLEY has been diagnosed as having Intervertebral Disc Disease T-L, which as per the PetPlace.com website 'is a condition that occurs when pressure ... (Read More)is placed on the spinal cord by disc material that herniates beneath or adjacent to the cord. This condition is commonly referred to as Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) that can occur in the thoracolumbar area of the back. The condition may be an acute (occurs suddenly) or chronic (slowly develops over time) condition in dogs.' We do have x-rays that can be emailed to his adopting family, or direct to their vets. BENTLEY gets around just fine and is happy wondering and exploring wherever he is. He is given anti-inflammatory in the form of steroids when he seems to be in pain and according to our vet, this will be his medical plan for the foreseeable future. As long as he is getting around fine, then all is good, however, if he appears to be in pain or discomfort then a course of steroids would help him through. BENTLEY as mentioned is still relatively active, he loves to explore outside, and although long walks and hikes would not be suitable, pottering around at his own pace keeps him happy. BENTLEY seems to be very interested in his surroundings more than humans initially, but once he has checked everywhere out and is happy, he comes over for some love and fuss and will settle down on your lap or on the chair beside you to enjoy the day. BENTLEY does like to 'talk' and let you know he is there, but with interaction he does stop and is happy and content with whatever attention he is getting. BENTLEY gets on great with other dogs, although he is generally of exploring instead of playing with the other dogs. Part of that is most likely due to his back issues, but I think it is also his personality - a little explorer. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. BENTLEY is hoping that he finds a family that is not put off by his condition as it is manageable, who appreciates his independence, but also gives him all the love and cuddles that he needs and deserves and has most likely never had. He is not going to appreciate getting picked up and put down all the time so ramps to get on and off the furniture and your knee would be preferred. He loves going out and exploring and this is good for him mentally and physically. A family that understands he will need on going vet care, but if they have a good relationship with their vet, his condition does not have to be expensive to maintain. Steroids are not expensive and they are to be administered as and when needed. Obviously as he gets older and the disease progresses he will need to be re-assessed and the treatment plan, if needed adjusted accordingly. BENTLEY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org BENTLEY is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-23-00176Rufus - MA (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rufus Breed: Catahoula Leopard Mix Age: 4 years +/-; Neutered Male Weight: 50 pounds Dogs: Yes Cats: Yes Kids: 8+ Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: Massachusetts Rufus is a super nice fella that has a lot of energy. He is a very people-centric dog that wants and loves to please. He really likes other dogs, but some do not like him! Rufus, likes to play and to get others to play he thinks he should bark in their face. As you can imagine, not everyone likes this and some find it very scary! Rufus, just wants to have a great time and tear around and he doesn't get that it is bad etiquette. Rufus has great manners in terms of ... (Read More)house training, his crate and he even knows basic obedience/tricks! He is very, very smart. He is still strong on the leash and is working on leash manners. He will bark like a bad man to get other dogs attention if he sees them, as he is very much about attention. He does have a fear of thunderstorms and fireworks and needs someone to help him during those times. Rufus is going to do best in a very active home, that likes to run, hike, etc. He also will do best with an owner that either will take him to work or works from home; or has a short amount of time away from the home. Rufus' downfall is that he is an escape artist, he can escape from just about any fence anywhere and will do best if he is kept on leash and very active. Rufus is a dog that has a fabulous amount of untapped potential, he just needs the right person to bond with and to bring that shine out! If you are interested in fostering or even adopting Rufus please email SLN2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Rufus's adoption donation is $350 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-15-00206LADY-LANIER (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: High Energy
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

LADY-LANIER was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas by GaDaH and was adopted to a family in CT in November 2014. Sadly the families circumstances have changed and they are no longer able to keep LADY-LANIER and her brother ARMANI who was also adopted from GaDaH in March 2015. Since both dogs have lived together for 2 years and are bonded, it is our intention to try and find them a home together. I will update information as I find out more about them, since I have not seen them for over 2 years. Both dogs are currently in Connecticut, but will be coming to the rescue in Sebec, Maine in the near future. LADY-LANIER is spayed, rabies, ... (Read More)core vaccines, lepto, heart-worm & tick disease tested NEGATIVE and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 5 September 2011 and weighs around 55 pounds. It is thought she is a German Shepherd / Cattle dog mix. This is the information provided by her current owner: Lady is approximately 55 pounds and is part German Shepherd and part American Cattle Dog. She is approximately 5 years old, and has high energy. She is very afraid of men, but likes women and children. It will take her time to bond with people, and will most likely bond with the woman of the house. She enjoys having her belly rubbed very much and will give you her paw when asked. She could use more obedience training, but is house trained. ARMANI is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, lepto, heart-worm & tick disease tested NEGATIVE and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 12 September 2014 and weighs around 75 pounds. He is a pure-bred German Shepherd Dog.' ARMANI, who is a pure bred young male German Shepherd. The information below was provided by his current owner: Armani is a German Shepherd and approximately 74 pounds. He likes to chew when he is bored. If adopted, the family would benefit from having many chew toys in the house. He is house trained as well. He likes to chase small animals, such as squirrels and birds. He is an excellent watchdog and is very loving. Armani is timid around other dogs but is not vicious in any way. He is a love bug who is content to lay by your side. LADY needs a family that is prepared to work with her on her fear of men. I do not believe she is aggressive towards men, but just avoids them. ARMANI needs mental stimulation for an adult dog to be chewing is due to boredom. Both dogs would benefit from an active family and one that has time to work with them on basic and advanced obedience training. Working together on training will help build trust and create a stronger bond between both dogs and their humans.Road trips and walks / hikes and places where they can take in the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer is great for any dog. They need mental and physical stimulation, the more exercise and stimulation the less likely any chewing, other than with toys will occur. If you are interested in giving these precious souls a loving, active, full-filled life and home, please go to the website and complete, then submit the adoption application. They are going to be upset, confused and miss their family so we are looking for a family that will commit to working with them and giving them everything they need. We ask for two personal references and a vet reference and once we have been able to contact them it takes just 1-3 days to process and hopefully approve applications.      This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only.  Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. He's a sweet dog most of the time. However does have a problem with adult males if it's not my siblings or people he grew up around. He's honestly not good around strangers at all. Has become aggressive as he's gotten older. It got better for a while and has become a problem again. I have a one year old son and I'm just not willing to risk it anymore. I think with proper handeling and someone that knows how to train him he would be fine. I do love him and he really can be a very sweet lap dog if you let him.

It does not cause him concern and looks like ... (Read More)it is from a good while back, so there is a chance it will not grow. TINY-TIM is a very sweet, affectionate boy. He is very responsive and not too imposing, he is not a dog that is constantly clawing/pawing at your leg wanting to be lifted up. He will come over and jump up on my chair, but if I am busy and tell him no, he does go off and settle himself down, normally with the other small dogs here who enjoy to hang out and cuddle/sleep together. I do have puppy-pads in the house as the dog doors installed are the XL, double flapped doors and some small dogs cannot open them. TINY-TIM does use the puppy-pads and I am sure if able to get out when he needed to, would be very easy to house-train. He is a very responsive boy. He would love to go wherever his family goes and is great in the car. TINY-TIM would benefit from a family that is familiar with the toy/small breed dog, who understands their needs and potential medical issues as they get older and be in a position to ensure they get all that they need to live a long, happy, loved, safe, healthy life.He would need a family that has time to spend working with him on basic and advanced obedience training. Working with him as a family so both TINY-TIM and his humans can learn each other's body language, expectations and boundaries. Small dogs do tend to have teeth issues so it is almost a guarantee that they will need dental care throughout their life. This is not an inexpensive treatment. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! TINY-TIM is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of US $500 This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org TINY-TIM is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-17-00216CABELA (female)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. CABELA was saved from Texas where most dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. CABELA is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. She has been estimated date of birth of 21 December 2014 and weighs around 45 pounds. CABELA is a shy girl that is gradually coming out of her shell. She is learning that getting belly rubs and ear scratches is actually quite nice. She has to be coaxed in to come through the door, which makes me think she ... (Read More)was kept outside, or not allowed in the house. She is getting more confident. She loves exploring outdoors and enjoys running in the snow. CABELA is great with all of the dogs here at the rescue ranging from 5 pound to 95 pounds. We do NOT have cats on the rescue so I am not in a position to comment on how he will be with cats. CABELA would suit a relatively active fun family that would take her on adventures and road trips and let her explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. She would benefit from a family that has the time to work with her on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both CABELA and her humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! Rescue Me ID: 17-03-17-00199APOLLO (male)

Chihuahua    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. APOLLO was saved from Texas where most dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. APOLLO is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 25 December 2014 and weighs around 10 pounds. We guess the breed, by how the dog looks, so really what you think he looks like is what he most likely is! APOLLO is very shy and nervous initially around humans, but by giving him time to decompress and become aware ... (Read More)of his surroundings he soon warms up. He is very sweet and affectionate. He has an under-bite that doesn't seem to cause him any problems, he eats and drinks fine. After a week of being at the rescue, he will follow me around and jump up on the chair to ensure he gets some love and attention, he is still a little cautious but each day is getting more and more confident. I feel living with a family that has the time to dedicate to him, he will learn to trust and feel safe and secure very quickly. He would make a great lap-dog as he just wants to be loved, something it doesn't appear he has experienced much of during his life so far. APOLLO once he feels safe is the kind of boy that would love to go where you go, to hang out in the garden, or go on a road-trip or go for a nice long walk exploring the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. He would make a great companion and I know would enjoy having a companion to call his own. APOLLO uses the dog door to go outside, although I am not sure he would know to let you know he wants to go out, so it is best to expect a few accidents and work with him on letting you know he wants to go out. This might be something he already knows, having dog doors it is something he never needs to do, so I cannot say for sure. He gets on great with the other dogs, although tends to play outside with the smaller dogs, inside he is generally pretty quiet, still getting used to his new temporary surroundings. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. APOLLO would benefit from a family that is familiar with the toy/small breed dog, who understands their needs and potential medical issues as they get older and be in a position to ensure they get all that they need to live a long, happy, loved, safe, healthy life.He would need a family that has time to spend working with him on basic and advanced obedience training. She is responsive and eager to please so that she can get lots of loving and a good belly rub. She uses the dog doors to go in and out to play and do her business, I do not know if she knows to let you know she needs to go out as she has 24/7 access with the dog doors, but I am sure this is something that she would pick up quickly. I have not seen her with children, but as long as the children respected her and her space I do not think there would be any problems and think she would make an all round wonderful family pet. Rescue Me ID: 17-02-19-00422GHOST (female)

Dutch Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Please take the time to read all information provided as it could answer some questions you may have. GHOST was saved from Texas where most shelters have to kill dogs for space after just 3 days. She is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in other states and Canada where our dogs get adopted. GHOST is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm & tick-disease tested (Snap 4dx) negative and micro-chipped. She weighs around 50 -60 pounds and has an estimated date of birth of 28 October 2015. GHOST we believe is a Dutch Shepherd mix who is high energy and needs to have a job or lots of mental stimulation. She is fun, ... (Read More)very affectionate and most of the time great with other dogs, although she does show alpha tendencies and so she will need to be watched around other dogs until it established who is who and they are both settled with each other. GHOST is fantastic with all dogs, she is perfect with the pups and lets the crawl all over her, pulling her ear or tail, she will nurture them as if they were her own. She is fun with other dogs, although can be a bit 'Full-on' and over bearing for some dogs. She is the type of dog that when I bring a new dog into the rescue she cannot wait to show them around, show them how to play and get up to mischief. GHOST is full of love and affection, but needs some training in manners, a lot of that is due to all the excitement and over-stimulation she tends get herself all worked up, but she has been through a lot in a short period of time and when she has had more time to settle in, get into the routine and expel some of the energy she has been storing up, she will be much better. That being said, she is a high energy girl that does and will need a lot of stimulation. GHOST did have some food aggression when she first came to the rescue but soon learned that the food is there for her and she doesn't need to try and keep it to herself. She is a stunning girl with so much love and affection, once trained she will be amazing, but she will definitely need a family that understand working breed mind-set and has a strong alpha/leadership role in their home. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how she would be around them. GHOST would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with her on her obedience and manners, who would take her on adventures and road trips and let her explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. She would benefit from a family that has the time to work with her on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both GHOST and her humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! GHOST is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Please take the time to read all information provided as it could answer some questions you may have. MISTY was saved from Texas where most shelters have to kill dogs for space after just 3 days. She is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in other states and Canada where our dogs get adopted. MISTY is the mother to JACK & TIFFANY and companion to BLAZE, the father of JACK and TIFFANY. MISTY is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm & tick-disease tested (Snap 4dx) negative and micro-chipped. She is around 18 pounds and has an estimated date of birth of 15 January 2016. MISTY is a young fun loving, high energy, ... (Read More)affectionate girl. She plays great with dogs of all sizes. She has not shown any signs of aggression with food, toys or any other instance. She is a happy girl who loves to cuddle and share kisses. MISTY will most likely not grow anymore so she is a small dog, although she does like to run and play, but enjoys nothing more than to be as close to me, if not on my lap, then on the back of the chair resting. She is great with dogs of all sizes, from small, middle up to 95 pound German Shepherds, she is confident and happy being with them all. MISTY uses the dog door to come and go as she pleases. She might need to be taught to let you know she wants to go outside, but she is a very smart girl. MISTY would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with her on her obedience and manners, who would take her on adventures and road trips and let her explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. She would benefit from a family that has the time to work with her on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both MISTY and her humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! MISTY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Rescue Me ID: 17-01-31-00147HAYDEN (male)

Dachshund    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Blind

HAYDEN was an owner surrender due to his mums severe decline in health. We know little information about him as nothing was provided and his former vet just sent a screen show of a visit, which didn't provide much information. He is NOT neutered, we had him tested for Heartworm and tick disease and he tested negative for all. He was given a rabies and core vaccine booster and de-wormed. He weighs around 25 pounds and he is BLIND in both eyes. HAYDEN gets around just great and when he hears my voice, he comes to my direction and wags his tail, he does still play with the other dachshunds and is an all round happy boy. He can smell water, ... (Read More)food and treats and is not dependent on anyone to get to it. He is very bonded with his best-buddy JASPER and they are often rolling around playing together. HAYDEN is not house trained, I was told that he goes on newspaper, I have pee pads down and sometimes he uses them, other times he doesn't. I think in a home where he can be taken out and having a regular schedule would stop most of the problems or a belly-band could be used which would stop the problem instantly. I am sure with him being blind and so many dogs around doesn't help. HAYDEN had a veterinary exam as we had very little medical history provided and he had a big lump under his front leg that was a concern. The lump was tested and it was deemed nothing to worry about. He was checked for diabetes, as a possible cause of his blindness, but he tested negative. Pressure testing was done on his eyes and they were a little off, but nothing to require any treatment, but monitoring would be recommended. Other than being blind, HAYDEN is in great shape, he is active, happy and just waiting for a family with a huge heart and the time to spend with him to make his life complete. I had wanted to keep HAYDEN with JASPER and RILEY whom he has been with all of his life, but with 2 months of no interest, I have to accept that keeping them together is not going to happen. I cannot keep them here at the rescue. Although he is a social boy and loves being with the other dogs, with the rescue having fluctuating numbers it is not an idea place for him when we have a lot of dogs. I also don't have the time to spend with him and he is not getting any time spent with him and as a senior he deserves a calm, relaxed, stress-free, loving environment where he can enjoy his senior years. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! HADEN is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $300. If you are interested in adopting these precious souls, please complete and submit the adoption contract on our website. We ask for two personal references and a veterinary reference. It generally takes 2-3 days to process applications, as long as we are able to speak to your vet and references. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org HADEN is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Sebec is located in-between two small towns, Dover-Foxcroft and Milo, both approximately 6 miles away and the closest major city is Bangor (approx 45 miles). Many families travel and make a mini-vacation out of the trip and stay in beautiful Maine for the weekend, however, if this is not possible and there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.     Jake is a lovely dog that unfortunately cannot stay where he is due to the cat. I recently had to sell my home after breaking my arm and now live with relatives that have a cat. Jake loves children and he lights up around them. No aggressive behaviors. Sweet sweet dog. Needs a fenced in yard - he will run. Very quiet for a hound unless there is a UPS truck around.

Fox Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT GRACIE, HER LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. GRACIE was saved from Texas where dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. GRACIE is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. She has been estimated to be around 2 years old and at the time of rescue (December 2016) weighs around 45 pounds. GRACIE is a very gentle sweet girl who wants nothing more than to have a nice, loving life with a family that will let her love them as much as they love her. She is very well-mannered ... (Read More)and although might jump up occassionally this is more because the other dogs are doing it. She has the wire-hair to minimal shedding and as long as regular brushing, low maintenance grooming. GRACIE can be a little protective with food, however, since I free-feed at the rescue, she is learning to share with other dogs. She will give a little growl, but will stop when told no. She has not shown any aggression at all. GRACIE currently lives with all size dogs ranging from 6 pound chi's to 95 pound German Shepherds and gets on great with them all. We do NOT have cats at the rescue so cannot comment on how he would be with them. We have dog doors in the house and GRACIE uses them to go out and play or to do her business, however, It would be wise to expect the odd accident until she learns her new routine and to let you know she needs to go outside. GRACIE would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with her on her obedience and manners, who would take her on adventures and road trips and let her explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Maine
Dogs can make good pets in Maine if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.) Dogs are red-green colorblind. Dogs can hear much lower frequencies than humans, over twice as high as humans, and about four times as far as humans.
