I'm currently fostering Stella. She is a rescue from North Carolina. She was found after the hurricane just roaming the streets. She is very, loving, especially of children. I have had her since November of 2016.she was pregnant when I got het, and gave birth to 3 beautiful healthy pups. I have had her spayed and she is current on vaccinations. She is a beautiful purebred Rotti. I do not have her papers. I have lots of pictures. I can't keep her because of my cats. She doesn't like cats!! It really breaks my heart to see her go. Please contact me if you are interested. Serious inquiries only. I just want her to go to a loving home.

Rescue Me ID: 17-03-16-00430Ellie - MA (female)

Catahoula    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Blind, Deaf

***Please Read All Information Before Reaching Out to Us - If you have no experience with Catahoulas and/or Deaf/Sight Impaired Dog - DO NOT APPLY*** Breed: Catahoula Leopard Hound Age: 1 year +/-; Spayed Female Weight: 55 pounds Medical: Up to date on Vaccinations; Spayed; Microchipped; Deaf; Some Sight impairment Dogs: Yes; Would rather be Only Dog Cats: No Kids: 13+ Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: Massachusetts One look at this girl and you will instantly fall in love! Ellie is one stunning girl! She has the most beautiful blue eyes, white merle coat and a cute pink 'piggy' nose. Unfortunately however, these ... (Read More)beautiful features are from the same genes (or the lack of) that have also caused her to be deaf. Ellie has shown herself to be a very strong-willed and confident girl. Luckily, she is also very smart and responds well to training and positive reinforcement. She is looking for a family who is equally smart and strong-willed. Ellie is okay with other dogs but would likely excel as the only dog in her household. She's happy to meet new women, but is more nervous about meeting new men. This will need to be continued to be worked on, but she is smart and with the right direction, we are confident that she will become more confident in meeting men. Ellie is house trained, crate trained and good on a leash. We are looking for an adult-only household for her who can provide her a consistent routine that includes lots of exercise and stimulation, as well as daily training and reinforcement. Consistently and regularly enforced basic house rules (e.g., sit before eating, ask before jumping up, wait before exiting, etc.) will be essential to helping Ellie succeed in her new home. Ellie's adopter needs to be committed to providing her with the daily exercise that she requires, as well as thoroughly training her in all basic commands - sit, stay, heel, recall, down. She will also need to be taught hand signals and sign language, as this is an important way to communicate with a deaf dog. Once trained, caring for a deaf dog is not much different than caring for one who can hear, but an untrained deaf dog can be an unwelcome and unruly companion, and a risk to herself (e.g., if she gets away from you and cannot hear an approaching car or other danger). If you are interested in adopting Ellie please email SLN2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. Ellie's adoption donation is $400 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-19-00422GHOST (female)

Dutch Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Please take the time to read all information provided as it could answer some questions you may have. GHOST was saved from Texas where most shelters have to kill dogs for space after just 3 days. She is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in other states and Canada where our dogs get adopted. She weighs around 50 -60 pounds and has an estimated date of birth of 28 October 2015. GHOST we believe is a Dutch Shepherd mix who is high energy and needs to have a job or lots of mental stimulation. She is fun, very ... (Read More)affectionate and most of the time great with other dogs, although she does show alpha tendencies and so she will need to be watched around other dogs until it established who is who and they are both settled with each other. GHOST is full of love and affection, but needs some training in manners, a lot of that is due to all the excitement and over-stimulation she tends get herself all worked up, but she has been through a lot in a short period of time and when she has had more time to settle in, get into the routine and expel some of the energy she has been storing up, she will be much better. That being said, she is a high energy girl that does and will need a lot of stimulation. GHOST does have some food aggression, I have not fed her with other dogs so I do not know the extent of it, but it is best to keep her fed alone and watch her if any treats or toys are given around other dogs and supervise to be sure that she is ok. She is a stunning girl with so much love and affection, once trained she will be amazing, but she will definitely need a family that understand working breed mind-set and has a strong alpha/leadership role in their home. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how she would be around them.. GHOST would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with her on her obedience and manners, who would take her on adventures and road trips and let her explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

We rescued Indy from a Georgia Shelter about 10 months ago. He was 13 months old with no history. When he first came to us he was scared, but seemed hopeful. He wasn't house broken and didn't even know how to go up and down stairs, but in just a few short weeks we had him housebroke, kennel trained, and running the stairs! He was very easily taught to sit, sit pretty, give both paws, lay, come, and stays with the right motivation. We are still working on stay. He's really a very smart and loving boy! Where the problem comes in for us. He started out mouthy and nippy with us and my older 2 children, but we were able to break that within a ... (Read More)few months. He is now GREAT with my own children! BUT, he is NOT good with other children. He continues to show nervousness and aggression around my children's friends. This is as soon as they walk in or near our home. It's not provoked, I have very respectful children. He has lunged at 4 of my daughters friends, and actually bit 2 of them. They were not badly hurt and both times they were approaching him without an adult around (not good) but the other 2 times I was there to intervene. Thankfully he only left bruising and slightly broke skin, but as you can see our dilemma. I have a 12yo, 7yo, and 1yo. I am going to have children in and out of my house for years to come and he is too much of a risk to them. Lucky for us, there were no repercussion for his biting, but one day there could be and I do NOT want that fate for him! I am not experienced enough to train this out of him, though I think it could be if someone spent a lot of time socializing him. Or maybe he's just not good around children outside his pack. I am not sure. With that being said, we hung on as long as we could because we love him, but he has to be in his kennel when kids are here or separated, muzzled, and watched closely. I worry with kids in my neighborhood just walking by for the chance he could dart out the door, ect. It's not fair to him to have to be locked up every time, or to my children to not have friends over. We don't want to give him up, but I realize at this point we have to. He is super smart and loving to most people. His whole body wags when he is excited!! He came to us a 'lab mix' but he definitely Pit in him (red nose is my guess) and we believe some boxer because of his pouty lip and jumping/boxing mannerisms. He hops like a deer when he plays outside! It's the funniest cutest hop EVER! He really would make a great dog for a young single person or young couple without children who has time and EXPERIENCE to give him what he needs. We will ask for personal and vet references. (Less)

I love this gal to pieces and have had her for 5 years. Ive fallen on hard times after moving to Maine and not making the income that I had hoped. I have to return to Flordia and can not take her as I will be moving in with roomates this time. She is super adult friendly. She play with my 8 year nephew and 9 year old neice but doesnt understand the energy of kids under 8. While she was buddies with my dog in Orlando and buddies with her pal Bella here, she takes time to get to know a dog and usually its strained until she is comfortable. But she is a huge cuddler, loves adults and snuggles with almost anyone. She is potty trained, leash ... (Read More)trained, knows most commands as well as will bring her leash sometimes when asked. She lives for car rides and walks and a tennis ball is the greatest joy to her next to catching bubbles. She is slimmer than the couch potato pic since she has had more time to play and run up north. I had her at Village Vet in Rollinsford for check up as well as PetDocs in Orlando. She has no known health issues. She is a great interviewer and loves meeting new people. If you are a couple with no kids or older kids, no cats and hopefully no other dogs in the immediate future, she would love a family to couch cuddle and play tug-o-war with. She really is a sweet gal, Im just at a loss now heaving to return to Florida to start over again. Its a tough decision but I am left with no choice. In Florida pits get euthanized before they are even given a chance to be viewed for adoption or unsavory people search for the breed to fight, abuse, breed or throw in a junk lot to guard it till they die. Its sad. I know there is someone up here who would love to have a constant companion and cuddle buddy at their side who would love to take her to dog parks and long rides. P.S. She loves to wear her Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle back pack with her toys and treats in it on walks, seriously, and loves her sweater too. Were in Berwick ME not far from Dover NH. I dont want to charge a fee to a really great home, so donate to the site or your local shelter. (Less)

She has not shown any signs of aggression with food, toys or any other instance. She is a happy girl who loves to cuddle and share kisses. TIFFANY is a very curious girl and is often found jumping on the counter looking into anything and everything she can find. She is very agile and easily jumps up on top of things when her curiosity takes over. TIFFANY will most likely not grow anymore so she is a small dog, although she does like to run and play, but enjoys nothing more than to be as close to me, if not on my lap, then on the back of the chair resting.     RILEEY was an owner surrender due to his mums severe decline in health. We know little information about him until we get his paperwork, but he is approx 15-20 years old. He has a brother named JASPER who is a little bigger than him and HADEN is also part of their little pack. RILEEY weighs around 11 pounds. He does appear to be blind in one eye, but is so very sweet and just loves to lie on your lap and sleep. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! RILEEY, JASPER and ... (Read More)HADEN are available for adoption together through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue. If you can give these senior boys the life that they deserve and the finances to be able to give them all care that they need, please contact us to discuss. If you are interested in adopting these precious souls, please complete and submit the adoption contract on our website. We ask for two personal references and a veterinary reference. It generally takes 2-3 days to process applications, as long as we are able to speak to your vet and references. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org RILEEY, JASPER and HADEN are located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located inbetween two small towns, Dover-Foxcroft and Milo, both approximately 6 miles away and the closest major city is Bangor (approx 45 miles). Many families travel and make a mini-vacation out of the trip and stay in beautiful Maine for the weekend, however, if this is not possible and there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.     Otis has been a great family dog for me and my two daughters . But we have changed our living situation and he is alone most of the time now . Because of that and him getting older he has become a bit grouchy with new company . Otis is looking for someone to hang out and has space for him to run around . He is old but still has energy . He is a great companion, loves going on car rides, swimming and cuddling. He is a great dog and we love him and want to see him with someone who has the time for him and will appreciate his goofy and loving loyal personality.

Rescue Me ID: 16-12-09-00373GRACIE (female)

Fox Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT GRACIE, HER LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. GRACIE was saved from Texas where dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. GRACIE is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. She has been estimated to be around 2 years old and at the time of rescue (December 2016) weighs around 45 pounds. GRACIE is a very gentle sweet girl who wants nothing more than to have a nice, loving life with a family that will let her love them as much as they love her. She is very well-mannered ... (Read More)and although might jump up occassionally this is more because the other dogs are doing it. She has the wire-hair to minimal shedding and as long as regular brushing, low maintenance grooming. GRACIE can be a little protective with food, however, since I free-feed at the rescue, she is learning to share with other dogs. She will give a little growl, but will stop when told no. She has not shown any aggression at all. GRACIE currently lives with all size dogs ranging from 6 pound chi's to 95 pound German Shepherds and gets on great with them all. We do NOT have cats at the rescue so cannot comment on how he would be with them. We have dog doors in the house and GRACIE uses them to go out and play or to do her business, however, It would be wise to expect the odd accident until she learns her new routine and to let you know she needs to go outside. GRACIE would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with her on her obedience and manners, who would take her on adventures and road trips and let her explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. She would benefit from a family that has the time to work with her on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both GRACIE and her humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! GRACIE is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

2 years ago I adopted a Female German Shephard that was rescued from a high Kill shelter in Georgia. She has been very wonderful with all people and kids except for the fact that we still haven't been able to break her of the habit of jumping. Friday we had an incident that we feel we need to find a rescue/rehab for my dog whom I have loved and has protected my family. Friday a small 10 pound dog lightly nipped at Princess. Princess (my German Shephard) was on leash with my husband. Princess lunged at the dog; my husband was able to pull her back keeping the small dog out of harm's way. Princess then lunged with all her strength and my ... (Read More)husband could not keep her back. I watched in horror as I could see my dog decisively chose hind quarters to entrap in her jaws and then picked up and shook the small dog until its intestines were visible. It took minutes of yelling and trying to pry her jaws open and punching her until she finally stopped. The bottom line is that we could not control her. We consulted with the veterinarian whom said she would not euthanize 'yet'. Her opinion was that unless the bond has been broken we should continue with her as we have and if 'something else' happens we should definitely consider putting her down at that point. Her other suggestion was a rescue or rehab if we feel we can't continue ownership. We live in a community with a lot of kids and a lot of dogs. Daily several runners run by with their dogs - Princess always kind of 'freaked out' as people and dogs went by; we always thought she was being protective, but now we are not so sure. We have a 1 year old grandson and have not allowed the dog to be around him. My husband is jumpy putting his hands near her neck to hook her up. I don't trust her; she would not obey and we could not control her. Is there a soul that has no other animals that has time and energy to put into a very loving dog that we feel we can no longer keep? Do you have any advice for us? Is there anyone we can call? PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Maine
Dogs can make good pets in Maine if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
