Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

Suzan B. Anthony was picked up off the streets in Delaware last fall when she was only about 4 months old. She was emaciated and full of worms. It was a family friend who picked her up but couldn't keep her so I volunteered to. She is a really good dog. Very sweet, but anxious and has environmental allergies. The older she gets (1.5 years now) the more aggressive she has been getting with other dogs. It is becoming a problem because I have a cat and two other dogs who are older and they are being terrorized. I really love this dog and think she would be an amazing and loyal pet, but only if I didn't have any other pets. I think she would be ... Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Erk! He doesn't understand how or why he ended up in the shelter, he just knows that he wants a loving home and a family to call his own. Erk's owners surrendered him to the shelter on July 14th and reported that he is great with kids. Erk is 10 years old and weighs about 73 pounds. He is a very smart boy and knows his basic commands to sit and stay. He is already neutered, and will be microchipped and heartworm tested upon adoption.

Harry & Sally were rescued from the Downey Shelter in CA where they ended up after their owner went to jail. They are approximately 3 and 4 yrs old. We don't know if they are bonded, but we are assuming so at this time, so unless we find out differently, we will only be adopting them out together. Both dogs are currently in CA and should arrive here in November. Harry & Sally are coated, and seem like fun loving sweet lovebugs. We believe them to be OK with other dogs. German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sameer is just a puppy - we estimate him at a year and a half old. This youngster was rescued from the Moreno Valley Shelter in California. Sameer has been in foster and training, so he is crate trained, and mostly housebroken, too! Sameer is very active, and still mouthy - typical GSD youngster. We would like to find a home that has some GSD experience - someone who knows how to raise a GSD pup! Sameer will try to take over if he can - so someone who can provide boundaries and stability would be great. We would like to even see him do some more training - he's a firecracker! Sameer is OK with other dogs upon proper intro, but can be ... (Read More)bossy. We would prefer a home with children no younger than 12.     We have a beautiful 7 year old female pitbull I'm looking to rehome to the right person/family. She's a sweetheart who loves to love. However, she has not taken to our baby well, no matter the training we've done. She's excellent with all people and children 5 yrs old +. She must be the only pet 'baby' you have. She can become jealous. She does not do well with other animals but will do better with a male once she lets them know she's the boss. She is up to date on vaccines but will need her rabies shot in December. I am more than happen to get her rabies shot beforehand. There are a few requests on our end with the adoption Neena that if ... (Read More)they cannot be met, you are not meant for her or us. We are asking for a $50 rehoming fee. German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We are pleased to announce that Bella is now looking for her furever home! Bella is a stunning coated girl of about 2 years old. We rescued Bella from the Moreno Valley Shelter in CA several weeks ago. This girl is all puppy energy - she is a handful - but oh so sweet! She obviously has had no training, and lived outdoors, so her manners still need work. Bella gets along fine with larger dogs. We will not be placing her in a home with small dogs or cats. The lucky family that gets to adopt Bella should have some breed experience, and should understand what it takes to raise a GSD puppy. They will also need to commit to continuing her ... (Read More)training with some sort of obedience class. If you would like to be considered for adopting our lovely Bella, you should fill out our online application to get the approval process in motion. We will not schedule meet & greets without an approved app on file. Here's the link: www.miraclegsdmaine.org PLEASE NOTE - All Applicants should expect to have their vet references checked to make sure that all current and prior pets have been kept up to date on rabies and distemper, as well as an annual heartworm exam and at least 6 mos of preventative purchased during mosquito season, and that they are all spay/neutered (Less)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We can only say WOW about Nadia. We knew she was beautiful, but today she got a special bath from Laurel at Dogwood Animal ReTreat and she looks so much better! Nadia was dumped at the Downey Shelter in CA several weeks ago by her crappy owners, and she was in miserable condition with a ton of hair loss from fleas. After spending some time at the vet, she was much better - and her lovely coat is growing back - she will be stunning in another couple of months! She arrived in Maine last weekend. Nadia is about 4 years old, and holy cow does she love the ball - she is a fantastic athlete. She has an intense face and is very focused - we love ... (Read More)her! She is spending a little time with our friend Kris at Kompletely K-9 Dog Training and Rehabilitation learning to walk on a leash etc. Nadia is good with other dogs, too! This girl would be a fantastic companion to an active family. Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Calin is an active, healthy female approx.3 y/o and 54 lbs. It was difficult for us to guess her mix but her build is slender and leggy. She is black with some brown showing through. She is very loving and good with children and cats but best in a home without another dog . She is crate trained and housebroken. A fenced yard would be necessary. She would need some leash training or work with a no pull harness. She could be the right dog for someone looking for a running partner. She's been in our foster care too long and deserves the right wonderful home!

Rescue Me ID: 17-09-26-00100YOGI (male)

Plott    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

YOGI was bought to the boarding business I run by animal control as I have a stray hold contract with them. He had been found running free, super skinny and clearly abandoned, luckily for him a family found him and took him to the safety of their home to wait for animal control to come and get him. The families kids called him 'YOGI' as they thought he had most likely been a bear hunting dog and then cut loose as he couldn't / wouldn't hunt or whatever reason. Despite posting with lost/found and with the local police and community nobody came forward to claim this handsome boy so after the stray hold period was up, he was transferred into ... (Read More)rescue where he was then fully vetted. YOGI is now neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart worm and tick disease tested negative and micro-chipped. The vet estimate him to be around 6 years old and he currently weighs around 54 pounds having gained a good amount of weight in his time here. YOGI has been listed as a Plott Hound, however, there is no way for us to know what breed he is, so it is important that you decide what breed you think he is. 'YOGI is located in the kennel building and seemed so very happy to have a safe place and was super excited when I encouraged him to go on his elevated bed, with soft fluffy blankets. He is very affectionate and loving, it is clear he has not had a life of love before, he gets excited and does jump up when I go in the kennels but he is responsive and does calm down when I tell him. When I am cleaning the kennels he will either go in or out when I tell him, depending on where I am. I think he would be pretty easy to train as he has been responsive and I don't do any training as I don't have time. He does pull in the leash but doesn't seem uncomfortable with one on. He was not house-trained at all when I first got him and he would pee and poop in the kennel on his bedding and not know any better. We have worked with him and he now uses the dog door in the kennel to go outside to do his business. He occasionally will pee up the door, but I think with him being neutered so late it is a habit he just needs to break and he has really done so well. An option is to possibly use a 'belly-band' which would stop accidents in the house until you can be confident he has adapted to his new routine and life of living indoors. I think with some training and manners he will be a great dog in the house, he deserves to have a life of love affection and comfort as I do believe he was kept as an outside dog with little if any affection, but he sure does enjoy it when he gets it. He does pull on the leash, so I do not believe he has had much if any leash experience, but he is not objective having a leash put on. 'We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. YOGI although an adult/senior boy is still full of energy and so a family with an active lifestyle is a huge bonus. He rode great in the car and was happy looking out of the window. He would benefit from lots of road trips and adventures, hiking, trips to the lake, the beach and anywhere that he can burn off some of his energy and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. He will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both YOGI and his humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. He has not had a collar or leash on and so leash training will definitely need to be worked upon. A family that understands his initial caution of people and new places, that will help him develop his confidence and trust. 'YOGI has clearly lived a life of neglect and now this is his chance to find a family that wants to give him the love and affection he deserves. He is so happy and appreciative when he is given food, treats and that ear scratch and belly-rub. YOGI is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.     Lou is a joy. He is a big velvet bodied, blockheaded, snuggle monster who adores his family and playing ball. Lou has never exhibited any aggression towards humans (adult or child), he is incredibly sweet and gentle with our one year old. We raised Lou from a 4 week old runt with nothing but love. He is more of a child to me than a pet. He sleeps in our bed, sits on our laps, licks our faces. He oozes love and affection. We are beyond devastated to have to rehome Lou but he has become increasingly aggressive with our older dog and we can't have dogs fighting in home where our baby plays. He needs a home where he will be the only pet and ... (Read More)where he will be loved like a family member. Adoption fee negotiable. Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

ARIES was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas with his sister who has since been adopted. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 6 June 2017 and he currently weighs around 25 pounds (at 3 months old). ARIES has been listed at the shelter as a Golden Retriever/Australian Cattle Dog mix however some volunteers thing he has a German Shepherd or Chow look to him. There is no way for us to know what breed he is, so it is important that you decide what breed you think he is. A family who will not get angry or upset if he chews their shoes or has an accident inside. He is a baby and although very smart and responsive, he needs to be guided in his mannerisms and behavior and continue to let his beautiful personality develop. ARIES is a sweet, affectionate, playful, high energy fun loving boy. He is great with other dogs and is always chasing and playing rough with them. He was a little bit of a bully when he first got here, nothing at all aggressive, a lot of that was puppy play and him finding out his boundaries. Since being at the rescue the older dogs have taught him what behavior is not accepted and he has been extremely responsive. He plays great with the other pups that are here. He has learnt to be respectful with the other adult dogs and enjoys their company. He is very affectionate and is always jumping up to get cuddles when I go over to the kennels or at playtime We do not have cats in the rescue so cannot comment on how he would behave around them. ARIES is located in the kennel building with his siblings and other puppy friends and he uses the dog door to go out in the run to do his business. I have not had him in the house so cannot comment if he is house-trained, but the fact he is using the dog door is a good sign, you might just need to teach him to let you know he needs to go outside. 'We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

She has an estimated date of birth of 24 July 2016 and she weighs around 30 pounds. Tigger is listed has been listed as a Labrador / Dalmation mix. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is. Tigger is a happy go lucky girl, her tail is always wagging and she always has that contagious smile on her face, so happy to see anyone and share the love and affection. She loves to get her ears scratched and belly ... (Read More)rubbed. She enjoys playing with toys and chewing on cow hooves. She is located in the kennels building and uses the dog door in her kennel to get out to the run to do her business. She has not had any accidents or been destructive whist in the kennel. She shares a kennel with Oreo and they are always playing and wrestling and having fun. She is great with all dogs of all sizes at playtime and loves to run around and chase and be chased. We do NOT have cats at the rescue so cannot comment on how she would be around, or near them. Tigger is a young girl with a lot of energy, we do not have time to work on training at the rescue, but she is responsive. She needs a family that understands she will need training and guidance. An active family who can give her the lifestyle that she needs. Playing ball in the back-yard is fun, but she would benefit from so much more, she is going to need a lot of physical and mental exercise. Going on road trips, to new places, hikes and adventures and letting her explore the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer will be to hers and your benefit. It is important that her family understands the importance of basic and advanced training. We advise that families work on their own basic training so that boundaries and expectations can be set and personalities and body language learnt in the process, which will help form a much stronger bond. Tigger will make a great family addition to an experienced family. She is fun, active and very loving and deserves a good family and home to call her own. Tigger is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org Tigger is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. He had clearly been abused and neglected. With patience and time Maximus has learnt to enjoy life. I had let small puppies hang out with him so that he can get used to other dogs that are none threatening, but also persistent and it was nice watching him at first keep getting up and move when they came near him, to accept them and let them cuddle with him. I introduced him to more dogs and he has since become best friends with a Siberian husky here in the rescue, they wrestle, chase, play and hang out all the time together, it is great to see how much he has progressed. 'Maximus has also gained some good weight, he still has a long way to go to get to the weight that he should be and build up his muscle mass, but he is eating healthily. I do free free so this helps him to eat throughout the day when he is hungry. Maximus now hangs out wish 7 other dogs of all ages and sizes, he gets on great with them, although is best friends with the husky. If any of the other dogs come near the food bowl when he is eating, he will give a very slight growl, but when the husky is there he lets her share with him. He is not aggressive and for the most part the other dogs ignore him and go and eat and he accepts that. I believe it is just with him having clearly been starving at some point he wants to make sure he has enough to eat. I would not say he is food aggressive at all and I have never seen any kind of aggression with him. 'When Maximus first came to the rescue he was not house trained at all, but he has learnt to use the dog door and now finally is going out to do his business and has learnt that inside is not the place for this. He will need to learn to let you know he wants to go outside as here he has 24/7 access to the dog door, but he is a very smart boy and I am sure will pick this up very easily. 'Maximus is learning to enjoy affection, although it is not something he yet craves, but is accepting and wanting it more as time goes by. He loves getting treats and gets excited when I go in to spend time with him and his friends. He loves to chew on the cow hooves and wil hoard a few so he can be sure he has plenty to chew on. We do NOT have cats at the rescue so are unable to say how she would get on with cats. Maximus is going to need a family that is used to high energy, smart dogs, preferably someone who is familiar with the Doberman breed. Someone who understands that he will need training and guidance and learns that humans are in charge so that he doesn't get too much of a handful. A very active family who can give him the lifestyle that he needs. Playing ball in the back-yard is not enough for this boy he is going to need a lot of physical and mental exercise. Going on road trips, to new places, hikes and adventures and letting her explore the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer will be to his and your benefit. It is important that her family understands the importance of basic and advanced training. We advise that families work on their own basic training so that boundaries and expectations can be set and personalities and body language learnt in the process, which will help form a much stronger bond. Maximus will make a great family addition to an experienced family. He is fun, active and very loving and deserves a good family and home to call his own. I do feel he would benefit from a family with another dog so he can continue to enjoy playing and being a dog, something he clearly has never experienced until life at the rescue. Maximus is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. He is a baby and although very smart and responsive, he needs to be guided in his mannerisms and behavior and continue to let his beautiful personality develop. JUNIOR is a sweet, affectionate, playful, high energy fun loving boy. He is great with other dogs and is always chasing and playing rough with them. JUNIOR is located in the kennel building with his siblings and other puppy friends and he uses the dog door to go out in the run to do his business. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. JUNIOR is young and high energy and so a family with an active lifestyle is a must. He would benefit from lots of road trips and adventures, hiking, trips to the lake, the beach and anywhere that he can burn off some of his energy and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. He will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both JUNIOR and his humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. He has not had a collar or leash on and so leash training will definitely need to be worked upon. A family that understands his initial caution of people and new places, that will help him develop his confidence and trust. German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Gunner is a stunning 5 year old AKC registered purebred GSD who came to us as an owner surrender when his owner entered rehab. Gunner had a good life for a couple of years, and even was trained in German. Unfortunately, his owner became a substance abuser, and Gunner's life changed. He was not walked or vetted enough, and rarely left the home. Gunner is friendly, but he does need a strong handler with breed experience, who will commit to Gunner's continued training. He is at a trainer's now getting a refresher course, but he has done what he wanted for several years, so he is strong willed. We will want a home with no small children. ... (Read More)Gunner has met kids and is fine, but he is strong as an ox and can be willful, and he is very energetic. Gunner is very scared of things he hasn't experienced, like the vets, and the groomers - he needs to be muzzled in situations like that. The more Gunner explores the world, though, with his new family the better he will be! If you would like to add this amazing dog to your home and heart please fill out our online application at www.miraclegsdmaine.org. We will not schedule meet & greets without an approved app on file. Applicants should expect to have their veterinary references checked to make sure all current and prior pets have been kept up to date on rabies and distemper, have an annual heartworm test, and are on at least 6 mos. of HW preventative per year during the season. Rescue Me ID: 17-07-04-00461MUNECA (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

MUNECA was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 20 June 2016. MUNECA has been listed as an Border Collie. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think she breed/s is. MUNECA is a young girl just bursting with energy, she is smart, fun, active and gets excited when she interacts with people. She is located in our kennel building so I cannot say if she is house-trained, however, she uses the dog door to do her business. She can get vocal in ... (Read More)the kennels, but I do believe that is more for attention and because she wants to be out running and playing, which is what she should be doing at her age. MUNECA definitely needs an active family who can take her on adventures and give her lots of ways to expel all that energy that she has. She will need an alpha family who understand the need of training her. We recommend families work on basic and advanced obedience together as this helps to set boundaries and expectations, it also helps by MUNECA and her family to learn each others personalities, body language and help form a stronger bond. She is great with other dogs of all ages and sizes, she does get excited and can jump on them initially, however, a lot of that is also because she is in the kennel environment and not getting the full attention, love and affection that she needs. We do NOT have cats at the rescue, so we have no way of knowing or able to say how she would act with or around them. She would benefit from an active family that can take her on adventures, she is good with children, however, as mentioned does get excitable but with training, a routine, an understanding of her family being in charge and of course being able to expel that energy and put her mind to work, she would be an awesome family pet. MUNECA is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org MUNECA is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-07-04-00457LAYLA (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

LAYLA was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 6 June 2016. LAYLA has been listed as an Labrador Retriever. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think she breed/s is. LAYLA is a gorgeous, fun, affectionate, curious young girl who is bursting with energy and love. She gets on great with other dogs of all ages and sizes and loves to run, play, chase and wrestle. She is very affectionate and extremely curious watching everything I do and ... (Read More)taking it all on board, she watches when I open and close the gate as if processing how I am doing it. A smart girl for sure. We do not have cats at the rescue so we cannot comment on how she would act near or around them. LAYLA shares her kennel with her friend Maddi (husky mix) and they are constantly playing and wrestling at play time they just run and chase around enjoying the fresh air and being able to run free. Layla, like almost all dogs in rescue does jump up a lot, this is more eager to get attention and is an easy fix and will most likely stop when she has her own family and getting all the attention for herself. She will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both Layla and her humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. Layla would benefit from an active family who will take her on road trips, hikes, trips to the beach and lake and give her the chance to explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. She rides great in the car and is a friendly with everyone that she meets. She is a social girl with dogs and humans and would benefit from lots of social interaction with both. LAYLA is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-15-00206LADY-LANIER (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: High Energy
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

LADY-LANIER was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas by GaDaH and was adopted to a family in CT in November 2014. Sadly the families circumstances have changed and they are no longer able to keep LADY-LANIER and her brother ARMANI who was also adopted from GaDaH in March 2015. Since both dogs have lived together for 2 years and are bonded, it is our intention to try and find them a home together. I will update information as I find out more about them, since I have not seen them for over 2 years. Both dogs are currently in Connecticut, but will be coming to the rescue in Sebec, Maine in the near future. LADY-LANIER is spayed, rabies, ... (Read More)core vaccines, lepto, heart-worm & tick disease tested NEGATIVE and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 5 September 2011 and weighs around 55 pounds. It is thought she is a German Shepherd / Cattle dog mix. This is the information provided by her current owner: Lady is approximately 55 pounds and is part German Shepherd and part American Cattle Dog. She is approximately 5 years old, and has high energy. She is very afraid of men, but likes women and children. It will take her time to bond with people, and will most likely bond with the woman of the house. She enjoys having her belly rubbed very much and will give you her paw when asked. She could use more obedience training, but is house trained. ARMANI is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, lepto, heart-worm & tick disease tested NEGATIVE and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 12 September 2014 and weighs around 75 pounds. He is a pure-bred German Shepherd Dog.' ARMANI, who is a pure bred young male German Shepherd. The information below was provided by his current owner: Armani is a German Shepherd and approximately 74 pounds. He likes to chew when he is bored. If adopted, the family would benefit from having many chew toys in the house. He is house trained as well. He likes to chase small animals, such as squirrels and birds. He is an excellent watchdog and is very loving. Armani is timid around other dogs but is not vicious in any way. He is a love bug who is content to lay by your side. LADY needs a family that is prepared to work with her on her fear of men. I do not believe she is aggressive towards men, but just avoids them. ARMANI needs mental stimulation for an adult dog to be chewing is due to boredom. Both dogs would benefit from an active family and one that has time to work with them on basic and advanced obedience training. Working together on training will help build trust and create a stronger bond between both dogs and their humans.Road trips and walks / hikes and places where they can take in the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer is great for any dog. They need mental and physical stimulation, the more exercise and stimulation the less likely any chewing, other than with toys will occur. If you are interested in giving these precious souls a loving, active, full-filled life and home, please go to the website and complete, then submit the adoption application. They are going to be upset, confused and miss their family so we are looking for a family that will commit to working with them and giving them everything they need. We ask for two personal references and a vet reference and once we have been able to contact them it takes just 1-3 days to process and hopefully approve applications. Then we will work on arranging for you to meet the dogs. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org/adoption-application.html (Less)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

ARMANI was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas by GaDaH and was adopted to a family in CT in March 2015. Sadly the families circumstances have changed and they are no longer able to keep ARMANI and his sister LADY-LANIER who was also adopted from GaDaH in November 2014. This is the information provided by ... (Read More)her current owner: Lady is approximately 55 pounds and is part German Shepherd and part American Cattle Dog. He is a pure-bred German Shepherd Dog. The information below was provided by his current owner: Armani is a German Shepherd and approximately 74 pounds. He likes to chew when he is bored. Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. CABELA was saved from Texas where most dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. CABELA is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. She has been estimated date of birth of 21 December 2014 and weighs around 45 pounds. CABELA is a shy girl that is gradually coming out of her shell. She is learning that getting belly rubs and ear scratches is actually quite nice. She has to be coaxed in to come through the door, which makes me think she ... (Read More)was kept outside, or not allowed in the house. She is getting more confident. She loves exploring outdoors and enjoys running in the snow. CABELA is great with all of the dogs here at the rescue ranging from 5 pound to 95 pounds. We do NOT have cats on the rescue so I am not in a position to comment on how he will be with cats. CABELA would suit a relatively active fun family that would take her on adventures and road trips and let her explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. She would benefit from a family that has the time to work with her on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both CABELA and her humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! CABELA is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of US $500 This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org CABELA is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Maine
Dogs can make good pets in Maine if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
