Rescue Me ID: 16-12-01-00275SALLY (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Personality: High Energy
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT SALLY, HER LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. SALLY is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heart-worm & tick disease tested negative (4dx), de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 25 May 2015 and at the time of rescue (December 2016) weighed around 68 pounds. I was contacted by a high kill shelter in Texas asking if I would take SALLY into rescue, she was very anxious and stressed in the shelter, constantly jumping up and down in her kennel and she had lost a significant amount of weight and her time to be kept alive was running out. SALLY as you can ... (Read More)see in the pictures, does need to gain a good amount of weight, but here at the rescue she is eating well and is on natural immune support supplements to help her. SALLY is great with other dogs of all ages and sizes and is generally a happy-go-lucky girl. She loves to run and chase and wrestle with the other dogs. We do NOT have cats at the rescue so cannot comment on how she would behave around cats. She is very friendly and affectionate and has not shown any signs of fear or aggression to anyone. SALLY does walk on a leash but practice is needed as she does tend to pull and go all over, but with lots of lovely walks and guidance she will soon improve and enjoy her walks. Although she has been estimated to be around 18 months she is still very puppy and has that goofiness as if she is still growing into her body. The first few days at the rescue I had to physically bring SALLY indoors, she is obviously used to being an outside dog and not being allowed inside. Since I have dog doors at the house, I had her sleeping with me so I could be sure that she didn't sneak back outside and she snuggled up and settled right down - clearly enjoying the love and affection she had not had much, if any of. %BD'%BD%BDWe have dog doors in the house and SALLY uses them for the most part, but does still have the odd accident. It is important for her new family to understand that this beautiful girl is still learning and is going through lots of lifestyle changes and will take time to adjust and when she goes to live with her new family, this will yet again be another change, so it is important to expect accidents until she learns her new routine and schedule and her family must be patient and be prepared to work with her. She might be great and have no problems, but it is best to expect them and be pleasantly surprised if she does well. SALLY would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with her on her obedience and manners, who would take her on adventures and road trips and let her explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. She would benefit from a family that has the time to work with her on her basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both SALLY and her humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. SALLY is very smart and responsive and I believe training would be relatively easy and fun. SALLY is a great girl who deserves the best in life, she has so much love and fun to offer. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! SALLY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious stunning girl a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org/application.html SALLY is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-12-01-00272PHYLISS (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

'PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT PHYLISS , HER LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. PHYLISS originally came from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed due to the thousands of stray dogs that sadly are in desperate need of life of the streets and ultimately a home of their own. PHYLISS is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heart-worm & tick disease tested negative (4dx), de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 23rd August 2016 and at the time of rescue December 2016, weighed approximately 11 pounds.' I really have ... (Read More)no idea what breed she is, the shelter have her down as terrier/pit bull mix, you can decide what breed you think she is. PHYLISS has been diagnosed as having demodex mange and skin infections, both are non-contagious and common in neglected, mal-nourished pups and dogs. She is on medication for it and is doing great. PHYLISS is a confident, happy, inquisivie, loving, affectionate, energetic girl. She has not shown any fear or hesitation in anything she has seen and has been great with the other dogs of all ages and sizes. As she grows and gets a little older she will learn and benefit from living with lots of dogs of different ages, breeds, personalities and sizes. We do NOT have cats at the rescue so cannot comment on how she would behave around cats. We have dog doors in the house and PHYLISS does use them sometimes, but for the most part she is not house-trained, so it is important that she goes to a family that understands she is going to need some work in this area, she is super smart and I would not imagine it would take long. PHYLISS would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with her on her obedience and manners, who would take her on adventures and road trips and let her explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. By working together both PHYLISS and her humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. Rescue Me ID: 16-12-01-00269GABRIEL (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT GABRIEL, HIS LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. GABRIEL is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, heart-worm & tick disease tested negative (4dx), de-wormed and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 8th May 2015 and at the time of rescue December 2016, weighed approximately 57 pounds.' GABRIEL originally came from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed due to the thousands of stray dogs that sadly are in desperate need of life of the streets and ultimately a home of their own. We do NOT have cats at ... (Read More)the rescue so cannot comment on how she would behave around cats. GABRIEL was apparently an owner surrender to the shelter because he had too much energy. He is a sweet boy, but does at times cower and can be hesitant to come over when called and when he does he does so very carefully until he knows he can trust and then he is full of kisses and love. GABRIEL gets on great with other dogs of all ages and sizes, we have 8 pound terriers up to 95 pound German shepherds, from 3 mths to 10 years and he is great with all of them respecting their age and size. GABRIEL loves to run in the back field and is happy playing with the other dogs or entertaining himself with toys. GABRIEL walks ok on the leash, but at times can pull. He will need a little practice which is common with lots of shelter dogs as they generally have had not had anyone spend time with them teaching them what is expected of them. I have dog doors throughout the house and GABRIEL comes and goes as he pleases to play out or to do his business. He has not had any accidents in the house, however, it is recommneded that new families expect an odd accident whilst GABRIEL adjusts to another change in his life and get into his new routine and learn to let you know he needs to go outside. He is a very smart dog so if he doesn't do it already, it will not take much for him to learn. GABRIEL would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with him on his obedience and manners, who would take him on adventures and road trips and let him explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. He would benefit from a family that has the time to work with him on his basic and advanced obedience training. We do NOT ... (Read More)have cats at the rescue so cannot comment on how she would behave around cats. BENNY is a sweet affectionate boy who loves to be close by. He has lots of energy and loves to run outside. He gets on great with other dogs and lives happily with small dogs weighing 10 pounds up to large dogs weighing 95 pounds, all ages and personalities and he has no problems with any of them. He walks ok on the leash, but as with most rescue dogs, would benefit from lots of practice. BENNY does get excited and at times does jump up, so this is something that would need to be worked on, but out of the rescue environment and in a family home with a routine and lots of love and attention all for himself he will calm down and not need to jump up for attention. We have dog doors in the house and BENNY uses them to go out and play or to do his business, he has not had any accidents in the house, however, since he has 24 hour access to get outside it would be wise to possibly expect the odd accident until he learns his new routine and to let you know he needs to go outside. BENNY would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with him on his obedience and manners, who would take him on adventures and road trips and let him explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. He would benefit from a family that has the time to work with him on his basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both BENNY and his humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. BENNY is very smart and responsive and I believe training would be relatively easy and fun. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

'PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT RILEY, HER LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. RILEY originally came from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed due to the thousands of stray dogs that sadly are in desperate need of life of the streets and ultimately a home of their own. RILEY was saved be a lady that adopted a GSD from GaDaH two years ago as she couldn't bare to see her killed and so she reached out ot GaDaH to take her into rescue and find her perfect forever home. RILEY is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heart-worm & tick disease tested ... (Read More)negative (4dx), de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 29th November 2012 and at the time of rescue December 2016, weighed approximately 63 pounds.' She is a smaller sized girl, in height, but does need to lose some weight. The extra weight will not be too much of a big deal for the east coast winter, however, for her health and well-being she will need to lose weight in the spring/summer. RILEY spent a few days with her foster family in Texas whilst waiting for transport up to the rescue in Sebec, Maine. She was a little grumpy with two of the smaller dogs there. Since being at the rescue she has been great with all of the other dogs. She doesn't like to be jumped on, but who does, so she will growl and let the other dogs know she does not like this. Growling is dogs way of communicating and is not a bad thing. RILEY also likes to be left alone when eating and so if other pets are in the home, feeding her seperately or being monitored is highly recommended. We do not have cats in the rescue so cannot comment on how she would behave around them. RILEY walks well on the leash and loves to ride in the car. She is a laid back affectionate girl who is happy to chill out or go for walks, play outside or really whatever her human is doing. We have dog doors in the house and RILEY uses them to go out and play or to do her business, she has not had any accidents in the house, however, since he has 24 hour access to get outside it would be wise to possibly expect the odd accident until she learns her new routine and to let you know she needs to go outside. Then I could be the love match for you!! My name is Rollo, but when you meet me, you'll know why my foster family calls me Bubba! I am a super sweet goofy guy and I'll follow you all around the house just to be near you. Although I am about 3-4 years old, I have the wide eyed curiosity of a puppy, but I'm proud to say I'm crate ... (Read More)trained and housebroken. I love to romp around the yard like a good ole boy but can run like the wind when the mood strikes me. I'm very playful and always ready to go! I get along well with my foster sister, but because she is a smaller dog, my play and attention can be a tad overwhelming. My two feline house mates aren't sure what to make of me yet. I show them attention but they usually stay out of my reach, probably because I am 70 lbs and can be intimidating at 10 times their size. I adore people but my only human interactions have been with adults. My rambunctious play and large size would probably not be a good fit with young children. I ride well in the car and walk on a leash, but I could benefit from some leash work. My tail wags constantly because I am just a happy boy! Although I'm rather large to be a lap dog, that doesn't stop me from trying! I just love to cuddle and will melt every time you scratch my ears, rub my belly or just touch me in any way! If you are interested in adopting Rollo please email SLN2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Rescue Me ID: 16-11-13-00064NOVA (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT DAWN, HER LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. NOVA is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heart-worm & tick disease tested negative (4dx), de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 5th November 2015 and at the time of rescue November 2016, weighed approximately 43 pounds.%BD'%BD%BD NOVA originally came from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed due to the thousands of stray dogs that sadly are in desperate need of life of the streets and ultimately a home of their own. We do NOT have ... (Read More)cats at the rescue so cannot comment on how she would behave around cats. NOVA is so sweet, precious and is a little timid, but has more curiosity than cats do. She likes to watch what is going on and if no one is looking she will sneak around to investigate anything that catches her eye. She is definitely a counter thief and a collector of things she shouldn't have, but this is in a mischievous manner and most likely due to her having been left as a stray and having to defend herself. NOVA does have very thin hair and it will take a while for her proper coat to grow in, it is recommended that she is put on coat supplements, fish oil, vitamin c, honey, coconut oil and such to help it grow. She is petite in frame although does have some weight to gain. NOVA is great with the other dogs and is very playful with them, she does have a bit more interest in the smaller dogs and so I am not sure I would trust her with cats or other small dogs, unless she is going to be supervised all the time. Again this might just be from her having lived as a stray, she has not tried to harm any of the small dogs, but then I do not let her alone with them. I do think it is more mischievous play, but again, not something I want to take a chance on here at the rescue. NOVA walks ok on a leash, but does need some practice, she can be shy going to new places and needs to build up her courage and so taking her places with little distractions would be best for her and then build on that. She is a very social girl and once she has the confidence would love meeting people and going to new places. She is going to need a family that has the time and patience to let this adorable girl trust, who will understand that she has her mischievousness and can work with her on that. NOVA would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with her on her obedience and manners, who would take her on adventures and road trips and let her explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. Doberman Pinscher Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

He has an estimated date of birth of 15 October 2015 and as of October 2016 weighed approximately 41 pounds. TOBI originally came from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed due to the thousands of stray dogs that sadly are in desperate need of life of the streets and ultimately a home of their own. TOBI is a complete love bug, who is a high energy, ... (Read More)happy, fun loving boy. He does get excitable and jump up a little, which is very common with dogs we save from the kill shelters, but with some guidance and training he will soon learn how to behave in a nice manner. TOBI does walk on the leash, but does pull a little, but nothing that a little bit of guidance and practice won't solve. With TOBI being around a year old, we do not think he will grow much more, so is a nice medium 40-50 pound dog. TOBI is great with other dogs, he is playful and loves to chase and wrestle with the other dogs and is quite happy chewing on a deer antler or hoof. TOBI lives amongst dogs of all sizes and ages, ranging from 6 pound chi mixes to 95 pound German Shepherds and has adapted great with all of them. We do NOT have cats at the rescue so we cannot comment on how he would be around them. TOBI would love an active family that will take him on road trips and adventures to let him explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. He would benefit from a family that has the time to work with him on his basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both TOBI and his humans can learn each others body language and personality. Expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. TOBI is very smart and responsive and training would be relatively easy and fun. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! Rescue Me ID: 16-09-16-00335PIPER (female)

American Staffordshire Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT PIPER, HER LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. PIPER is an America Stafford-shire Terrier mix who is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heart-worm tested negative, de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 8th January 2016 and weighs approximately 20 pounds. PIPER was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where she had been adopted and returned FOUR times. This poor girl, through no fault of her own was not given the chance by a family that has the time and understanding to work with her. PIPER is a great girl, she is extremely affectionate, ... (Read More)desperate to please and is very responsive. She does get very excited, is a high energy girl, with little manners and does tend to mouth. She also has slight food aggression. When PIPER first got to the rescue she would charge across the room and just jump on the sofa or chair, no matter if I was sat on it or not, she is an expert counter surfer and does mouth a lot. Mouthing is obviously a concern since her breed is labelled as being aggressive so any kind of mouthing will be seen as aggression, when all it is, is that she has not been taught that it is not acceptable. PIPER is learning pretty quickly to not charge and jump on the sofa, I correct her when she mouths and she is learning that growling and guarding the food is not tolerated. I free feed at the rescue and not all dogs are used to sharing their food, so this is a big learning curve for them, but it doesn't generally take them long to learn and understand that there is no need to guard the food, but it is something that should be noted and care taken when in her new home. She has never shown any aggression towards humans, she is a complete love bug, who is extremely responsive and I think with one on one training and time, she will quickly learn basic and advanced obedience and learn how to behave, she just has never been taught. As mentioned PIPER is very high energy and she needs to be with an active family who is able to provide a release for not just physical exercise but mental exercise. A tired mind is equally important as a tired body. I think PIPER would excel at sporting games like agility, she would make an awesome running / hiking partner, or anything that her humans are involved in. Without the energy release she is going to get frustrated and up to mischief and thus problems will occur. PIPER is great with kids, small kids would need to be watched they don't get knocked over when she is running around, but if she did knock them over it would be an accident. Of course children, as with all dogs need to be supervised and understand that dogs are not toys and to be given their own space and let alone when they don't want to play. PIPER is great with other dogs and loves to chase and wrestle with them of all ages and sizes. With an active family who has time, patience and the love to give this girl she will make an awesome new family member. She needs someone who understands the breed and how people react towards them. A family that will never move to a state or city or home that bans or treats dogs in a negative way and appreciate and respect that not every one likes the breed. PIPER has a lot to give her family in lover, affection, fun and making lots of wonderful memories. She is waiting patiently for her perfect family to find her. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! We do not have cats at the rescue so we are unable to say how any of our dogs would react around cats. PIPER is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $250. PIPER is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

2 years ago I adopted a Female German Shephard that was rescued from a high Kill shelter in Georgia. She has been very wonderful with all people and kids except for the fact that we still haven't been able to break her of the habit of jumping. Friday we had an incident that we feel we need to find a rescue/rehab for my dog whom I have loved and has protected my family. Friday a small 10 pound dog lightly nipped at Princess. Princess (my German Shephard) was on leash with my husband. Princess lunged at the dog; my husband was able to pull her back keeping the small dog out of harm's way. Princess then lunged with all her strength and my ... (Read More)husband could not keep her back. I watched in horror as I could see my dog decisively chose hind quarters to entrap in her jaws and then picked up and shook the small dog until its intestines were visible. It took minutes of yelling and trying to pry her jaws open and punching her until she finally stopped. The bottom line is that we could not control her. We consulted with the veterinarian whom said she would not euthanize 'yet'. Her opinion was that unless the bond has been broken we should continue with her as we have and if 'something else' happens we should definitely consider putting her down at that point. Her other suggestion was a rescue or rehab if we feel we can't continue ownership. We live in a community with a lot of kids and a lot of dogs. Daily several runners run by with their dogs - Princess always kind of 'freaked out' as people and dogs went by; we always thought she was being protective, but now we are not so sure. We have a 1 year old grandson and have not allowed the dog to be around him. My husband is jumpy putting his hands near her neck to hook her up. I don't trust her; she would not obey and we could not control her. Is there a soul that has no other animals that has time and energy to put into a very loving dog that we feel we can no longer keep? Do you have any advice for us? Is there anyone we can call? Thank you. Laura and Tod Jarvis Kennebunk, ME (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-08-29-00536MILO (male)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

Please read all of the bio to ensure you have all information. Mini-MILO (named MINI as we have already had a MILO in rescue) is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm & tick-disease tested Negative and micro-chipped, he weighs around 32 pounds and has an estimated date of birth of February 2015. Mini-MILO is a very happy-go lucky boy who is just bursting with energy, he acts as if he has been locked in a box his entire life and is only now seeing and exploring the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. If he can see, hear or smell it, he wants to see what it is. Although bursting with energy and in need of ... (Read More)some basic manners as he does jump up a lot, Mini-MILO is extremely affectionate. If he can sneak up on the chair next to me, he will, if not he will lie at my feet waiting for me to move so he can come along and check out what I am up to. He is extremely responsive and would I feel learn very quickly and be easy and fun to train. Mini-MILO definitely needs basic and advanced training as mentioned he does jump up a lot and also has that typical happy-dog bounce / spring where if I go into another room through a baby-gate he just bounces up and down until I come back. He is great with other dogs, although at times he can irritate them with his constant wanting to play, jumping up on them and trying to instigate a chase of play, but he is very responsive to a growl or whatever body language they give him to let him know to calm down. He then just moves on to find another dog who wants to play with him. He loves to run and chase around the garden and he has played with a few toys, but at the moment is just so excited to be free and have all the space to run in and other dogs to play with. I think when with his new family he will settle down somewhat, but will definitely need an active family who can work with his energy level and have the time to spend with him giving him the guidance and training that he needs to be a great family dog. We do not have cats in the rescue, however, we do have a rabbit in two XL dog crates tied together - he is interested in BUGS, in that when she is running up and down the crates, he follows her, and he is very curious as to what she is, but he has not tried to get into the crate and he is easily distracted to move onto something that involves, running and playing. With proper training and guidance and of course consistency I am confident that his few bad habits he has or picks up could be trained out of him. Mini-MILO is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $300. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this handsome young, energetic boy a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Rescue Me ID: 16-08-29-00510HARRY (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

HARRY is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and microchipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 26th March 2016 and at the time of rescue weighed around 25-30 pounds, he currently weighs around 40-50 pounds. HARRY is a super sweet boy whom saved as a puppy that had clearly had a rough start to life, he had sarcoptic mange, skin infections, was malnourished, full of worms and someone had cut his ears. Despite all this he has always been a very sweet affectionate boy. With treatment, immune support supplements and a good diet, HARRY has made a full recovery and his personality has really come out. HARRY is great with other dogs of ... (Read More)all ages and sizes, he at times can be a litte wary of humans, but once he knows he can trust he is just full of love. He is not imposing, when he wants a bit of love and fuss he will come and stand in front of me and wait patiently for me to scratch his chest or stroke his face. He does try and sneak up on the chair with me, but responds well when I tell him no (there is no room as I'm always working on laptop lol). We do not have cats at the rescue so we are unable to say how he would react around cats. HARRY has not had much experience on the leash and so he is going to need a family that has the time and patience to work with him on leash training. He rides good in the car and is very responsive to commands once he knows and trusts. We have dog doors in the house and HARRY uses them to go out and play or to do his business, he has not had any accidents in the house, however, since he has 24 hour access to get outside it would be wise to possibly expect the odd accident until he learns his new routine and to let you know he needs to go outside. HARRY would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with him on his obedience and manners, who would take him on adventures and road trips and let him explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. He would benefit from a family that has the time to work with him on his basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both HARRY and his humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. HARRY is very smart and responsive and I believe training would be relatively easy and fun. We currently feed a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements. HARRY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $250'. Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

HI. Miss Emma is a very nice, loving girl. she has no aggression whatsoever and is the most submissive dog i have ever had here. she loves other dogs and would love a buddy to play with she is med energy and loves to play. she is a little shy at first but will warm up quickly. she is crate trained. a home in the county or out of sight/sound of neighbors would be best because of her houndy howl. a fenced in yard would be helpful, because she will bolt after cats, ect. she did take a little stroll over to the farm next door, and really likes it there. she was trying to make friends with the horses! a family who loves being outside will ... (Read More)be perfect for emma. she would be best in a family with older kids. tho she doesn't bite them, she will bark if little kids run up to her. she is interested in cats, and chases them, so a cat free home may be best. if you have the time to help her, please contact soulymainepetsrescue@comcast.net. thanks so much. PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Maine
Dogs can make good pets in Maine if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
