Rescue Me ID: 17-04-25-00305Bodie (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Bodie is about 2 years old and currently weighs about 83 lbs, although he needs a few more. Bodie is a bit undersocialized and new situations make him anxious, so he is spending a couple of weeks with a trainer. Bodie is a quick learner, and is already walking well on the leash and learning to heel. We were amazed at his progress in just a few days. We will be working with him to get him comfortable in various situations he hasn't experienced before - which are many. The world is new to Bodie! Once he finishes his training course, he will stay with one of our fosters for a little bit, and then be available for adoption - hopefully in a ... (Read More)few weeks. We will be looking for a confident handler for Bodie, with breed or similar breed experience. Someone Bodie can take his cues from, and who will continue with his training! We would prefer a home with no small children since he hasn't spent a lot of time around them. Bodie seems OK with other dogs. If you are an active and patient person looking for a fun companion, and might like to open your home & heart to our handsome guy when he becomes available, please fill out our online application to get the approval process started. We will not schedule meet & greets without an approved application on file. Here's the link: https://www.miraclegsdmaine.org/ (Less)

He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 21 June 2015 and weighs around 25 pounds. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how ... (Read More)he would be around them. COOPER is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org COOPER WILL BE located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen. (Less)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sedona Breed: Catahoula Leopard Mix Age: 3 years +/-; Spayed Female Weight: 45 pounds Dogs: Yes Cats: Unknown Kids: 6+ Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: New Hampshire I am a super friendly girl who happened upon some bad times early in my life. However, things are looking up in a big way! I am now heartworm free, I have gained some weight and I have more energy than I have ever had in my life! My foster mom says I am the MOST loveable dog she has ever been around. I love to give hugs and to just lie down next to her when she is sitting on the floor. I am happiest when I am with my human, it doesn't matter to me what I am ... (Read More)doing. Speaking of things that I like'| I LOVE to ride in the car. I am a very good girl in the back of my foster mom's SUV. I just sit and watch or lie down and sleep. I also love to play fetch with my Kong toy. I am especially fond of running, so the further you can throw the happier I am! While I kennel very quietly and will mostly just lie down and sleep or play with my toys, it has been hard for me to be cooped up. For the last two months I have been getting out more, spending time in the backyard, getting to go for car rides and learning about going to places like Petsmart and other pet friendly places. I am very good on the leash when in a quiet setting, but when there are other things to look at I tend to get distracted and loose some of my manners. I just need a little more time and exposure. When I see people that want to pet and coo over me, I still tend to piddle in my excitement, so please beware and be patient with me. I am super smart and I pick up on lessons VERY quickly. Don't let my excitement fool you, I am listening and learning everything you are teaching me! If you are interested in adopting Sedona please email SLN2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. Sedona's adoption donation is $400 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada. (Less)

Rufus Breed: Catahoula Leopard Mix Age: 4 years +/-; Neutered Male Weight: 50 pounds Dogs: Yes Cats: Yes Kids: 8+ Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: Massachusetts Rufus is a super nice fella that has a lot of energy. He is a very people-centric dog that wants and loves to please. He really likes other dogs, but some do not like him! Rufus, likes to play and to get others to play he thinks he should bark in their face. As you can imagine, not everyone likes this and some find it very scary! Rufus, just wants to have a great time and tear around and he doesn't get that it is bad etiquette. Rufus has great manners in terms of ... (Read More)house training, his crate and he even knows basic obedience/tricks! He is very, very smart. He is still strong on the leash and is working on leash manners. He will bark like a bad man to get other dogs attention if he sees them, as he is very much about attention. He does have a fear of thunderstorms and fireworks and needs someone to help him during those times. Rufus is going to do best in a very active home, that likes to run, hike, etc. He also will do best with an owner that either will take him to work or works from home; or has a short amount of time away from the home. Rufus' downfall is that he is an escape artist, he can escape from just about any fence anywhere and will do best if he is kept on leash and very active.     Stanley was rescued from a high kill shelter in California. He is approximately 3 years old. He is a friendly guy, and very exuberant! Stanley tested friendly with other dogs, although he is a bit 'in their face' and high energy. He was pretty respectful of the shelter cat during a short intro. Stanley is about 70 lbs and is an all around happy dog. He will most likely need a little training - he was likely an outdoor do, but it shouldn't be hard - he's a smart guy! We expect Stanley to arrive at the rescue in Maine sometime in May! Once he does, and we learn more about him, we will update his bio!

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: High Energy
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

LADY-LANIER was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas by GaDaH and was adopted to a family in CT in November 2014. Sadly the families circumstances have changed and they are no longer able to keep LADY-LANIER and her brother ARMANI who was also adopted from GaDaH in March 2015. Since both dogs have lived together for 2 years and are bonded, it is our intention to try and find them a home together. I will update information as I find out more about them, since I have not seen them for over 2 years. Both dogs are currently in Connecticut, but will be coming to the rescue in Sebec, Maine in the near future. LADY-LANIER is spayed, rabies, ... (Read More)core vaccines, lepto, heart-worm & tick disease tested NEGATIVE and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 5 September 2011 and weighs around 55 pounds. It is thought she is a German Shepherd / Cattle dog mix. This is the information provided by her current owner: Lady is approximately 55 pounds and is part German Shepherd and part American Cattle Dog. She is approximately 5 years old, and has high energy. She is very afraid of men, but likes women and children. It will take her time to bond with people, and will most likely bond with the woman of the house. She enjoys having her belly rubbed very much and will give you her paw when asked. She could use more obedience training, but is house trained. ARMANI is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, lepto, heart-worm & tick disease tested NEGATIVE and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 12 September 2014 and weighs around 75 pounds. He is a pure-bred German Shepherd Dog.' ARMANI, who is a pure bred young male German Shepherd. The information below was provided by his current owner: Armani is a German Shepherd and approximately 74 pounds. He likes to chew when he is bored. If adopted, the family would benefit from having many chew toys in the house. He is house trained as well. He likes to chase small animals, such as squirrels and birds. He is an excellent watchdog and is very loving. Armani is timid around other dogs but is not vicious in any way. He is a love bug who is content to lay by your side. LADY needs a family that is prepared to work with her on her fear of men. I do not believe she is aggressive towards men, but just avoids them. ARMANI needs mental stimulation for an adult dog to be chewing is due to boredom. Both dogs would benefit from an active family and one that has time to work with them on basic and advanced obedience training. Working together on training will help build trust and create a stronger bond between both dogs and their humans.Road trips and walks / hikes and places where they can take in the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer is great for any dog. They need mental and physical stimulation, the more exercise and stimulation the less likely any chewing, other than with toys will occur. If you are interested in giving these precious souls a loving, active, full-filled life and home, please go to the website and complete, then submit the adoption application. They are going to be upset, confused and miss their family so we are looking for a family that will commit to working with them and giving them everything they need.      This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only.  Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. He's a sweet dog most of the time. However does have a problem with adult males if it's not my siblings or people he grew up around. He's honestly not good around strangers at all. Has become aggressive as he's gotten older. It got better for a while and has become a problem again. I have a one year old son and I'm just not willing to risk it anymore. I think with proper handeling and someone that knows how to train him he would be fine. I do love him and he really can be a very sweet lap dog if you let him.

Basset Hound Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. BENSON was saved from Texas where most dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. BENSON is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 1 February 2015 and weighs around 38 pounds. %BD'%BD%BDBENSON was saved with his brother ASTRO and both boys are so much fun. BENSON is very puppy-like in his behaviour, he is so very happy, he loves to play with toys and chase around wrestling and playing ... (Read More)with his brother. He is great with other dogs and has been around small 5 pound dogs up to 95 pound dogs and gets on great with all of them. BENSON uses the dog door to go out and do his business. He is a happy confident boy, so much life, energy and love to give. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. We would love to adopt both BENSON and ASTRO together as they clearly enjoy each other's company a lot, however, we will adopt them out individually to a family that can give them what they need. BENSON would suit a relatively active fun family that has the time to work with him on her obedience and manners, who would take him on adventures and road trips and let him explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. He would benefit from a family that has the time to work with him on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both BENSON and his humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! BENSON is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of US $500 This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org BENSON is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. Catahoula Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. He plays with the 5 pound chi's up to the 95 pound GSDs and he adapts his play to suit the size and type of play. He is gentle with the small dogs ... (Read More)and then wrestle and chase the bigger ones. His best friend here at the rescue is GHOST. When JASPER arrived he was very reserved and quiet, but he had been through so much with all that happened in his previous life, getting caught, the shelter, transport from Texas to Maine and then arriving at the rescue, I'm sure he was overwhelmed. After just 24 hours of decompressing and adjusting to his new temporary life his sweet personality started to shine. JASPER uses the dog door to go out and do his business, he happily eats with the other dogs and has never shown any kind of aggression or grumpiness. He is a happy confident boy, so much life, energy and love to give. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-17-00419TINY-TIM (male)

Chihuahua    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. TINY-TIM was saved from Texas where most dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. TINY-TIM is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 1 January 2013 and weighs around 9 pounds. TINY-TIM has clearly had a rough life, he has hair loss patches under his neck which will hopefully grow back now that he is on a good diet and immune support supplements. It does not cause him concern and looks like ... (Read More)it is from a good while back, so there is a chance it will not grow. TINY-TIM is a very sweet, affectionate boy. He is very responsive and not too imposing, he is not a dog that is constantly clawing/pawing at your leg wanting to be lifted up. He will come over and jump up on my chair, but if I am busy and tell him no, he does go off and settle himself down, normally with the other small dogs here who enjoy to hang out and cuddle/sleep together. I do have puppy-pads in the house as the dog doors installed are the XL, double flapped doors and some small dogs cannot open them. TINY-TIM does use the puppy-pads and I am sure if able to get out when he needed to, would be very easy to house-train. He is a very responsive boy. He would love to go wherever his family goes and is great in the car. TINY-TIM would benefit from a family that is familiar with the toy/small breed dog, who understands their needs and potential medical issues as they get older and be in a position to ensure they get all that they need to live a long, happy, loved, safe, healthy life.He would need a family that has time to spend working with him on basic and advanced obedience training. Working with him as a family so both TINY-TIM and his humans can learn each other's body language, expectations and boundaries. Small dogs do tend to have teeth issues so it is almost a guarantee that they will need dental care throughout their life. This is not an inexpensive treatment. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! Rescue Me ID: 17-03-17-00364SNOW (female)

White Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. SNOW was saved from Texas where most dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. SNOW is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. She has been estimated date of birth of 11 November 2015 and weighs around 45 pounds. SNOW had been adopted out from the shelter with her best friend ALICE (whom we also saved), however, both girls were returned due to the owner not having time for them. SNOW and ALICE were kenneled at the shelter together ... (Read More)and are best friends here at the rescue, constantly chasing, playing and wrestling with each other. SNOW is a happy, go-lucky, loveable girl, she does jump a little when she comes to greet you, but not too much that it can't be managed and with the appropriate training this is can easily be taught it is not accepted behaviour. SNOW is very affectionate and loves her belly-rubbed and ear scratched. She has been aged to be around 18 months, but does still act very puppy - this could be as she is happy and with her friends, getting plenty of exercise, play time, a good quality food and of course yummy treats. SNOW is great with all of the dogs here at the rescue ranging from 5 pound to 95 pounds. We do NOT have cats on the rescue so I am not in a position to comment on how he will be with cats. SNOW does use the dog door and comes and goes as she pleases, she has not had any accidents at the rescue, but I do not know if she would know how to let you know she needs to go out. SNOW would suit a relatively active fun family that would take her on adventures and road trips and let her explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. She would benefit from a family that has the time to work with her on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both SNOW and her humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. It would be great to adopt both SNOW and Alice out together as they are such good friends and we have had an offer from a volunteer to donate $100 ($50 per dog) towards their adoption if they are adopted together. This is not a deal-breaker though and we would adopt them individually to the right family. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! SNOW is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of US $500 This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If people give him time, he will soon warm up and ... (Read More)come up to smell you and then enjoy getting lots of love and cuddles. CHIP when outside he loves to run and enjoys being chased by the other dogs, it is like he is running free for the first time and so beautiful to see. He has an under-bite that doesn't seem to cause him any problems, he eats and drinks fine. After a week of being at the rescue, he will follow me around and jump up on the chair to ensure he gets some love and attention, he is still a little cautious but each day is getting more and more confident. I feel living with a family that has the time to dedicate to him, he will learn to trust and feel safe and secure very quickly. He would make a great lap-dog as he just wants to be loved, something it doesn't appear he has experienced much of during his life so far. APOLLO once he feels safe is the kind of boy that would love to go where you go, to hang out in the garden, or go on a road-trip or go for a nice long walk exploring the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. He would make a great companion and I know would enjoy having a companion to call his own. APOLLO uses the dog door to go outside, although I am not sure he would know to let you know he wants to go out, so it is best to expect a few accidents and work with him on letting you know he wants to go out. This might be something he already knows, having dog doors it is something he never needs to do, so I cannot say for sure. He gets on great with the other dogs, although tends to play outside with the smaller dogs, inside he is generally pretty quiet, still getting used to his new temporary surroundings. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. APOLLO would benefit from a family that is familiar with the toy/small breed dog, who understands their needs and potential medical issues as they get older and be in a position to ensure they get all that they need to live a long, happy, loved, safe, healthy life.He would need a family that has time to spend working with him on basic and advanced obedience training. Working with him as a family so both APOLLO and his humans can learn each other's body language, expectations and boundaries. Small dogs do tend to have teeth issues so it is almost a guarantee that they will need dental care throughout their life. This is not an inexpensive treatment. APOLLO is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org APOLLO is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-03-17-00195ALICE (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. ALICE was saved from Texas where most dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. SNOW is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. She has been estimated date of birth of 8 July 2013 and weighs around 45 pounds. ALICE had been adopted out from the shelter with her best friend SNOW (whom we also saved), however, both girls were returned due to the owner not having time for them. ALICE and SNOW were kenneled at the shelter together and ... (Read More)are best friends here at the rescue, constantly chasing, playing and wrestling with each other. ALICE is a happy, go-lucky, loveable girl, she does jump a little when she comes to greet you, but not too much that it can't be managed and with the appropriate training this is can easily be taught it is not accepted behaviour. ALICE is very affectionate and loves her belly-rubbed and ear scratched. She has been aged to be around 3.5 years, but does still act a lot younger than that- this could be as she is happy and with her friends, getting plenty of exercise, play time, a good quality food and of course yummy treats. ALICE is very agile and easily, and often jumps over the stable-door in the house dividing two rooms, she would be a great dog for someone interested in agility or an active sport. ALICE is great with all of the dogs here at the rescue ranging from 5 pound to 95 pounds. We do NOT have cats on the rescue so I am not in a position to comment on how he will be with cats. SNOW does use the dog door and comes and goes as she pleases, she has not had any accidents at the rescue, but I do not know if she would know how to let you know she needs to go out. ALICE would suit a relatively active fun family that would take her on adventures and road trips and let her explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. She would benefit from a family that has the time to work with her on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both ALICE and her humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. It would be great to adopt both ALICE and SNOW out together as they are such good friends and we have had an offer from a volunteer to donate $100 ($50 per dog) towards their adoption if they are adopted together. ALICE is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of US $500 This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. GHOST is full of love and affection, but needs some training in manners, a lot of that is due to all the excitement and over-stimulation she tends get herself all worked up, but she has been through a lot in a short period of time and when she has had more time to settle in, get into the routine and expel some of the energy she has been storing up, she will be much better. That being said, she is a high energy girl that does and will need a lot of stimulation. GHOST does have some food aggression, I have not fed her with other dogs so I do not know the extent of it, but it is best to keep her fed alone and watch her if any treats or toys are given around other dogs and supervise to be sure that she is ok. She is a stunning girl with so much love and affection, once trained she will be amazing, but she will definitely need a family that understand working breed mind-set and has a strong alpha/leadership role in their home. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how she would be around them.. GHOST would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with her on her obedience and manners, who would take her on adventures and road trips and let her explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. She would benefit from a family that has the time to work with her on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both GHOST and her humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! GHOST is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org GHOST is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. Please take the time to read all information provided as it could answer some questions you may have. MISTY was saved from Texas where most shelters have to kill dogs for space after just 3 days. She is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in other states and Canada where our dogs get adopted. MISTY is the mother to JACK & TIFFANY and companion to BLAZE, the father of JACK and TIFFANY. MISTY is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm & tick-disease tested (Snap 4dx) negative and micro-chipped. She is around 18 pounds and has an estimated date of birth of 15 January 2016. MISTY is a young fun loving, high energy, ... (Read More)affectionate girl. She plays great with dogs of all sizes. She has not shown any signs of aggression with food, toys or any other instance. She is a happy girl who loves to cuddle and share kisses. MISTY will most likely not grow anymore so she is a small dog, although she does like to run and play, but enjoys nothing more than to be as close to me, if not on my lap, then on the back of the chair resting. She is great with dogs of all sizes, from small, middle up to 95 pound German Shepherds, she is confident and happy being with them all. MISTY uses the dog door to come and go as she pleases. She might need to be taught to let you know she wants to go outside, but she is a very smart girl. Rescue Me ID: 17-01-31-00147HAYDEN (male)

Dachshund    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Blind

HAYDEN was an owner surrender due to his mums severe decline in health. We know little information about him as nothing was provided and his former vet just sent a screen show of a visit, which didn't provide much information. He is NOT neutered, we had him tested for Heartworm and tick disease and he tested negative for all. He was given a rabies and core vaccine booster and de-wormed. He weighs around 25 pounds and he is BLIND in both eyes. HAYDEN gets around just great and when he hears my voice, he comes to my direction and wags his tail, he does still play with the other dachshunds and is an all round happy boy. He can smell water, ... (Read More)food and treats and is not dependent on anyone to get to it. He is very bonded with his best-buddy JASPER and they are often rolling around playing together. HAYDEN is not house trained, I was told that he goes on newspaper, I have pee pads down and sometimes he uses them, other times he doesn't. I think in a home where he can be taken out and having a regular schedule would stop most of the problems or a belly-band could be used which would stop the problem instantly. I am sure with him being blind and so many dogs around doesn't help. HAYDEN had a veterinary exam as we had very little medical history provided and he had a big lump under his front leg that was a concern. The lump was tested and it was deemed nothing to worry about. He was checked for diabetes, as a possible cause of his blindness, but he tested negative. Pressure testing was done on his eyes and they were a little off, but nothing to require any treatment, but monitoring would be recommended. Other than being blind, HAYDEN is in great shape, he is active, happy and just waiting for a family with a huge heart and the time to spend with him to make his life complete. I had wanted to keep HAYDEN with JASPER and RILEY whom he has been with all of his life, but with 2 months of no interest, I have to accept that keeping them together is not going to happen. I cannot keep them here at the rescue. Although he is a social boy and loves being with the other dogs, with the rescue having fluctuating numbers it is not an idea place for him when we have a lot of dogs. I also don't have the time to spend with him and he is not getting any time spent with him and as a senior he deserves a calm, relaxed, stress-free, loving environment where he can enjoy his senior years. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! HADEN is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $300. It generally takes 2-3 days to process applications, as long as we are able to speak to your vet and references. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org HADEN is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. Jake loves children and he lights up around them. No aggressive behaviors. Sweet sweet dog. Needs a fenced in yard - he will run. Very quiet for a hound unless there is a UPS truck around.

Rescue Me ID: 16-12-19-00227LUCKY (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

'Please take time to read ALL information provided as it could answer some questions you may have! LUCKY was originally saved from a high kill shelter in Texas, he was not at the rescue long before he was adopted at the end of December 2016. LUCKY sadly had to come back to the rescue at the end of March as the families circumstances have changed and they do not have the time to work with him on training and such and he was getting a little too boisterous and controlling. LUCKY is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 11 ... (Read More)November 2015 old and weighs around 65 pounds. LUCKY's former family who had named him Fawkes, provided the following information: Fawkes/LUCKY is a very affectionate and loyal dog. He loves to follow you around and be involved in what you're doing. He loves going on walks and has been trained not to pull, and is very at walking right by your side. His favorite toys are ropes and squeaky animals. For treats, he loves frozen peas and anything with peanut butter. Fawkes/LUCKY knows basic obedience: sit, stay, come, let go, and down as well as a few tricks like 'give a paw' and 'dance' which he loves. He's also been trained to sit and stay before he eats, until you give him the okay. He loves going on adventures and rides very well in the car. They also said that he has separation anxiety, but I do not know to what extent. They didn't say he destroyed anything so I think it is more of a whining/wanting to get to be where they are. They said another problem they had was him being protective of his home and family. This is a very typical German Shepherd Dog trait and they absolutely must have a human alpha family or they will feel that they need to take charge and this is where things can start to go wrong. When LUCKY came back to the rescue he settled back in great, he plays fantastically with the other dogs, he loves to chase and wrestle with the bigger, high energy dogs and can literally be playing almost all day. He is great in that he adapts his play with the smaller dogs that want to play and mingle with the big dogs, he will still play and chase with them, but not be as rough. He has also proven to be very gentle with the 5wk old puppies that are here at the rescue and starting to explore and meet the pack. We do NOT have cats at the rescue so we cannot say how he will be with cats, although his formerly family said he doesn't do well with them. I imagine this is very much more of him wanting to chase and play with them, going from his personality. LUCKY did initially bark at people when they came round, however, I made sure he knew this wasn't acceptable and if he didn't stop I would put him in a crate in another room for a few minutes. I would then go and let him out and if he continued to bark, I would put him back in the crate for a little longer. LUCKY soon learnt that barking at people is not acceptable and he is now very friendly and happy to meet people, although at times he does still bark. This is something that will just need to be continued to work on, considering not many people come here, he has made excellent progress. I cannot comment on the separation side of the families experience, only that he has had none here, but he is always with other dogs. As with humans, dogs act differently in different environments and if he knows that he is safe and secure and does not control the home, this might not be an issue, however, it is something any potential adopters need to be aware of. He absolutely, 100% needs a family that is alpha and has the experience of young, high energy German Shepherds. If LUCKY does not have guidance, and structure in his home he will start to take control and start to own his home and owners, which is of course not acceptable. He is a very smart boy he just needs to know his boundaries and be made to understand under no uncertain terms what is acceptable and not. The softy, softy, fluffy approach with LUCKY is just not going to work - he needs strong leadership, as do most GSDs and working dogs.Whilst being at the rescue, other than barking at people, he has not shown any negative behaviour at all. We have dog doors in the house and LUCKY uses them to go out and play or to do his business. LUCKY would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with him on his obedience and manners, who would take him on adventures, road trips and let him explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. By working together both LUCKY and his humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. Fox Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT GRACIE, HER LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. GRACIE was saved from Texas where dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. GRACIE is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. She has been estimated to be around 2 years old and at the time of rescue (December 2016) weighs around 45 pounds. GRACIE is a very gentle sweet girl who wants nothing more than to have a nice, loving life with a family that will let her love them as much as they love her. She is very well-mannered ... (Read More)and although might jump up occassionally this is more because the other dogs are doing it. She has the wire-hair to minimal shedding and as long as regular brushing, low maintenance grooming. GRACIE can be a little protective with food, however, since I free-feed at the rescue, she is learning to share with other dogs. She will give a little growl, but will stop when told no. She has not shown any aggression at all. GRACIE currently lives with all size dogs ranging from 6 pound chi's to 95 pound German Shepherds and gets on great with them all. We do NOT have cats at the rescue so cannot comment on how he would be with them. We have dog doors in the house and GRACIE uses them to go out and play or to do her business, however, It would be wise to expect the odd accident until she learns her new routine and to let you know she needs to go outside. German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

KOLA was found as a stray by one of our foster families in Texas. He had no micro-chip and no one responded to the found dog posters that were distributed where he was found, nor the lost/found sites. KOLA is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease tested and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 22 November 2015 and in December 2016 weighed around 45 pounds. KOLA has a condition called Keratoconjunctivitus Sicca, which means he has a malfunctioning tear duct. The right eye tear duct works at less than 50%, so requires multiple drops daily. Although he is responding VERY well to the drops, the ... (Read More)veterinary eye specialist predicts this as most likely being a lifelong issue for Kola. A normal eye produces 23ml of tear per 60 seconds, KOLA's right eye produces 10ml, his left eye is normal. KOLA has no ulceration and no chance of eye amputation as long as he continues to respond well to the Tacrolimus drops, which he will need the rest of his life. She said the eye could roller coaster, improve and get worse then improve, etc. his entire life. If it worsens, drops would be adjusted and so forth if it improves as well. His eye looks great. It's very clear with no mucous and barely squinting, only when he wakes up and it's a little dry. Foster mum has him trained well with treats to receive the drops. He's a good boy and very well worth it. KOLA has a FABULOUS personality! He gets along well with other dogs, all sizes, and is beginning to adjust to his foster brother cats. If they don't run, he sniffs and is curious, if they run he chases after them wanting to play. He is estimated to be about one year old and still plays and behaves like a puppy. He listens well, has good eye contact and will be easily trained. He walks great on a leash and is potty trained. As you can tell in some of his pictures, he loves to snuggle!! So - KOLA is looking for that special family that has the time to give him his eye drops 2-3 times a day, or as when indicated by the vet. Be able to monitor his eye and take him for check ups and assessments as and when needed. The cost of the eye drops is around $150 (give or take) and last for around 6 weeks. Despite the issue with his eye, KOLA is happy, healthy and ready for his new family. He would benefit from an active family that likes to go on road trips and take him to new places where he can explore the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. KOLA will need training and we recommend that the family has the time and patience to work with him on basic and advanced obedience. Working together as a family to train him, will not only help with forming a bond, but will allow both KOLA and humans to learn each others body language, personalites, boundaries and expectations. KOLA is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This cost is non-negotiable and is used to cover the cost of vetting, health certificates and the expense of looking after all of our rescue dogs. If you have the time, patience and heart to want to give this handsome boy a home, please follow the link below to the Adoption Application and complete then submit. It generally takes 2-3 days to process applications as long as we have been able to contact your references and veterinarian. 'http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org KOLA is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located inbetween two small towns, Dover-Foxcroft and Milo, both approximately 6 miles away and the closest major city is Bangor (approx 45 miles). Many families travel and make a mini-vacation out of the trip and stay in beautiful Maine for the weekend, however, if this is not possible and there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen. He suffers from severe separation anxiety so needs a home where someone is willing to work with him on that. He's a sweet boy who just wants to be loved. Jack does not do well with other dogs, but he does like cats. He loves to be with people and is very calm when they're around. He is currently not at the shelter, but please let them know if you are interested in him!

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Maine
Dogs can make good pets in Maine if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
