Rescue Me ID: 15-05-25-00598Uki (female)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Uki Breed: Catahoula Leopard Mix Age: 1 year +/-; Female Weight: 40 pounds Dogs: Yes Cats: Unknown Kids: 8 + Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: Wisconsin Uki is simply beautiful inside and out. She has a fabulous disposition and would be a wonderful addition into any family. She loves to be with people and other dogs, and with her playful, funny personality she's just a joy to be around. She may need 'orientation' and supervision with small children as she's a spirited girl with lots of puppy energy. Uki will really thrive as part of an active family that will take her on hikes/runs/long walks. But as long as she gets ... (Read More)the opportunity to play and be the young dog she is, Uki settles down nicely in the house and will just melt your heart when she cuddles in to take a nap by your side. She does have the prey drive of a hound dog (we're working on her manners on leash when there are squirrels and rabbits in view!), and has not been tested with cats, but she is eager to please her human companion/s. If you are interested in adopting Uki please email sln2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. Uki's adoption donation is $350 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heart worm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sometimes, dogs get really lucky, like Charlie Brown here did when he found himself stray in rural Georgia. Most dogs in his straits would end up picked up by animal control, and brought to a shelter where they would be likely be put to sleep, since the average adoption rate in Georgia only 30%. Charlie might only be 1 or 2 years old, but he's got wisdom beyond his years, because he walked right up to the home of a rescuer! Now, he is in New England-the land of lab love - if we do say so ourselves! - to find a family where he can spend the rest of his life being loved and safe - never to wander the streets all alone again. He is a handsome ... (Read More)boy with a big heart bursting with love, and he so deserves a chance. He is being fostered with little girls, kitties and other dogs and so far loves them all. His foster mom says he is a very typical, happy, care free, lovable lab. Please consider messaging underhoundkt@gmail.com to ask for an application for Charlie? Thank you!! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-05-13-00446Bruno (male)

Pit Bull    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Bruno is a very energetic pit bull. He is very sweet. He is a nervous dog around some strangers. He gives me 'hugs'. He stands up on his hind legs and hugs and snuggles. He also snuggles if I am sitting down. He gives kisses too :) His previous owner was my boyfriend who died April 2, 2015 :( I recently adopted him but it is just not working out. I have two senior pugs and he recently grabbed my female by the face three times and wouldn't let go for a bit in one day. He has tried to bite my blind male pug twice. So, I have to keep him and my pugs separate. He is too much for me. I'm 50 years old and work 5 days a week. He needs to be the ... Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Pachee is a wonderful, well mannered male who would thrive in an active household. He is two years old and weighs 70 lbs. He was rescued in Washington when he was two months old and we do not know his breed, but we believe his mix could be black lab, German Shepherd plus one other breed (maybe border collie, or golden retriever). He LOVES playing and he does well with children and other dogs. He is working on meeting other dogs on leash, as he spent most of his youth off leash. He does well with dominant dogs, and sometimes gets confused with submissive dogs, but overall loves living in a household with another dog. He loves being ... (Read More)outside and would enjoy a fenced in yard or a lot of land. He is still working on recall, but does well off leash on trails and large properties. He is housebroken, knows basic commands, and is very responsive to direction. He is an amazing dog, and is looking for a loving family! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-04-28-00181Misty (female)

English Springer Spaniel Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Poor Misty has had the most terrible life so far, and we are hoping someone out there is ready to help change her future. She is only a year and half or so old, and we dont know all of her history, but even what little we know for sure makes us pray with all our hearts that Misty is adopted soon, and begins to have the chance to know what safety and love feel like. Underhound rescued Misty from a high kill shelter in the south not long before the holidays. She was very scared at the shelter, and due to be killed as the shelter was full. A foster was coming from across the state to pick her up, but she was to spend one night at a boarding ... (Read More)kennel in the meantime, to get her safely out of the shelter in time. That night, her first out of the shelter, she went into labor! She was so thin, no one had realized she was pregnant. She gave birth to a gorgeous litter, however, despite intensive care and no expense being spared, each one slowly passed away over the course of the next week, due to being born to a mother in such terrible condition and under so much stress. Mistletoe was anemic due to being so full of worms, including the dreaded heartworm, which is not easy to treat. We are very happy to say she has now made it through the months long treatment process, and will soon come to New England to finally have her chance at the good life. She is still scared, and learning how to trust humans and to live in this world, after all she has endured, but her sweet gentle spirit shines through all the time. Mistletoe weighs around 40 lbs. We are just guessing about her breed. The vet thinks she is a true mix, likely of multiple breeds. There is nothing that would make the humans of Underhound happier than Misty having a home waiting for her when she arrives. Somewhere peaceful, without too much commotion, with a happy confident doggie friend or more, to help her feel safe, and most of all, a calm, loving, patient human, who will embrace the journey of helping her learn to not be so scared. We promise the love she will give will pay you back many times over. If you think you might be that person, please email underhoundkt@gmail.com and ask for an application to adopt Mistletoe. She is spayed, up to date on shots, heartworm free, and ready to begin her bright future. (Less)

I am a pure bred male Catahoula Leopard dog and I have a fabulous foster home that I share with two human brothers, ages 11 and 13; two fur brothers and one fur sister. My fur brothers play a lot, but I'm not as interested in playing with them as much and really prefer my ... (Read More)humans. I really prefer to spend more time around them and would be happy being an only dog even. Other dogs that aren't too pushy are ok, though! My human brothers are really nice to me and understand when I need space and like to be left alone and when it's ok to love on me. My foster mom and dad watch though, just in case they don't understand. I'm not sure I would like any younger children that don't understand boundaries. I love to cuddle, and when I say cuddle, I mean I want to be so close that I am one with you. But move slow and pay attention to my feelings when you want to show me affection, sometimes I'm not quite sure what your intentions are, so I might jump or growl and it scares us both. It may be because I might have a slight problem with my eye sight, but we are getting that looking into to find out for sure. Massages are the bomb though. I will let you massage me until the cows come home. It helps relax and calm me down too, which is nice when I get over excited. I do well in my kennel if you have to be go somewhere, but definitely prefer running with my peeps when they are home and at night. I love foods of all kinds, mine AND yours, all the time, so you might want to watch that sandwich on the counter. I love to explore EVERYTHING because there is just so much to see. You should definitely be right there exploring with me! I love toys, but those rope toys are no match for me. I like the durable treat filled Kongs best because they seem to last longer and I get a treat for all my hard work! You and I can be exercises buddies too because I love to walk and run. Sometimes I get a little too excited and want to go faster than everyone else. My foster family is trying to show me how to stop and smell the roses, but I still forget, so we are a work in progress. I need you to use a padded harness though when we are out, at least until I get to where I want to just take leisurely strolls, because my skin is soft and very sensitive. I know my basic commands, like sit, no, and stay, but sometimes it's hard to listen if there are other things going on, so we are working on that too. If you want me to come live with you, we might want tall fences because I have shown my family how I can jump up on things, like my kennel and the kitchen table (but I don't do that anymore!), so I know I can jump high. While I love my foster family, I am looking for a home where I can go everywhere and do everything and see the world with you. If you are interested in adopting Roux please email sln2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Roux's adoption donation is $200 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heart worm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter.     Handsome, just turned 5 year old dog in need of a loving home where there are no children or other dogs. We have had him since he was 4 months old and love him very much, but we are expecting child number 5 and can no longer keep him in a situation that makes his quality of life very stressful and puts the kids in danger of being bitten. He has never bitten anyone, but is growing increasingly more agitated around children. He deserves to be happy in a home with adults where he can cuddle and play ball and get the attention he deserves without all the added stress. He will make a great companion for the right home. Zeke's story is a different kind of tale. He was adopted out as a puppy. It seemed to be the perfect fit. He seemed happy and looked happy. A year later he was seen at an adoption event with both his owner and new boyfriend and Zeke looked quite different - afraid and defeated. A volunteer immediately took him back. The owner stated he spent a lot of time in a back room, it soon became clear that Zeke was extremely fearful toward's males. The purpose of rescue work is to protect and save animals. Seeing Zeke come back to the rescue worse than he came in, really broke the hearts of those who tried hard to find the perfect home for him. PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Maine
Dogs can make good pets in Maine if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
