Rescue Me ID: 17-08-19-00314Nelle (female)

Great Dane    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive

We have had Nelle for 16 months. She was 12 weeks old when we brought her home. She can be extremely loving. Has had personality issues with our son since we brought her home. He is able to pat her most of the time, but has bitten him twice. She does have food aggression only with people food. She does have food allergies. We are still working on finding them out. She goes to Tender Touch vets in Scarborough. We love to find a home with adults that can work with her so that we do not have to put her down. It is breaking our hearts but I can not take the chance that she will bite our son again. Must be willing to work with her ... (Read More)aggressive behaviors. (Less)

American Bulldog    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

She is a very sweet loving dog to people. She is aggressive toward other dogs. It breaks our heart to re home her but in our busy lives we now feel its unfair to her at this point. I believe with some training she would be fine with other dogs.

Rescue Me ID: 17-08-15-00486FERGIE (female)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Fergie was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas with her mother ADELE. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 17 May 2017. Fergie has been listed as a Chi mix. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think she breed/s is. 'Fergie is still a puppy and is of the miniature family, she is going to be just around 7-10 pounds when grown. She will need a dedicated family that has the time and patience to work and teach her how she is expected to behave. A family who will not get angry or upset if she chews their shoes or has an ... (Read More)accident inside. She is a baby and although very smart and responsive, she needs to be guided in her mannerisms and behavior and continue to let her beautiful personality develop. Although she is small, she is very confident and doesn't hesitate to play with the bigger puppies and even the big dogs. She can jump up on the sofa and has no trouble getting to where she wants to be. 'She LOVES being around other dogs and we are hoping to find a family that would either adopt her and her mother, or has another dog so she can play and have doggy fun. Fergie is a sweet, affectionate, playful, high energy (for her size) fun loving girl. She is great with other dogs and is always chasing and playing rough with them. She plays great with the other pups that are here. She has learnt to be respectful with the other adult dogs and enjoys their company. She loves to cuddle up close, I always have a laptop on my knee so doesn't get chance to sneak on my knee. At night she will snuggle up as close as she can, as long as she is touching me or one of the other dogs, that is when she is most comfortable. We do not have cats in the rescue so cannot comment on how she would behave around them. Fergie does go and play outside with the other pups and dogs and is very confident and if she is out there she will do her business. She doesn't know to go outside and is not yet housetrained. Fergie is young and high energy and so a family with an active lifestyle is a must. She would benefit from lots of road trips and adventures, hiking, trips to the lake, the beach and anywhere that she can burn off some of her energy and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. She might not be able to do a full hike, but she is light enough to be carried and would enjoy the fresh air and being surrounded by nature. She will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both Fergie and her humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. She has not had a collar or leash on and so leash training will definitely need to be worked upon. Fergie is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org Fergie is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen. (Less)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

ADA was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 26 May 2017. On 24th July at just under 3 months she weighed just over 10 pounds. ADA has been listed as a GSD/ Husky Mix. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think she breed/s is. Her mother is a petite (35 pound) husky type mix girl White with blue eyes, VICTORIOUS, but there is a chance that ADA is going to be quite a bit bigger than her. Ada plays great with the other pups that are here. She has learnt to be respectful with the other adult dogs and enjoys their company. She had had little contact with humans when she arrived at the rescue and although is comfortable coming up and snuggling with me, she does take a little while to warm up to strangers. She isn't comfortable getting picked up, or carried around, but there should be not many reasons to do that with her. We do not have cats in the rescue so cannot comment on how she would behave around them. Ada does use the dog door to go outside to do her business although she will not know to let you know if she needs to go outside. Rescue Me ID: 17-08-11-00418HEATHER (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

HEATHER was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 5 May 2017. On 19th July at just under 3 months she weighed just over 15 pounds. Heather has been listed as a GSD/ Husky Mix. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think she breed/s is. Her mother is a petite (35 pound) husky type mix girl, ZELDA, but Heather is going to be quite a bit bigger than her. 'Heather is still a puppy and will need a dedicated family that has the time and patience to work and teach her how she is expected ... (Read More)to behave. A family who will not get angry or upset if she chews their shoes or has an accident inside. She is a baby and although very smart and responsive, she needs to be guided in her mannerisms and behavior and continue to let her beautiful personality develop. Heather is a sweet, affectionate, playful, high energy fun loving girl. She is great with other dogs and is always chasing and playing rough with her mother Zelda, who is still currently here at the rescue waiting for her forever home. Heather plays great with the other pups that are here even though she is bigger than them. She has learnt to be respectful with the other adult dogs and enjoys their company. She has been great at meeting people and children and other than jumping up and mouthing at times she was wonderful with them. We do not have cats in the rescue so cannot comment on how she would behave around them. Heather does use the dog door to go outside to do her business although she will not know to let you know if she needs to go outside. Heather is a social girl and loves to be around people and other dogs, she is young and high energy and so a family with an active lifestyle is a must. She would benefit from lots of road trips and adventures, hiking, trips to the lake, the beach and anywhere that she can burn off some of her energy and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. She will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both Maddi and her humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. She has not had a collar or leash on and so leash training will definitely need to be worked upon. Heather is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org Heather is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. (Less)

Although she is small, she is very confident and doesn't hesitate to play with the bigger puppies and even the big dogs. She can jump up on the sofa and has no trouble getting to where she wants to be. 'She LOVES being around other dogs and we are hoping to find a family that would either adopt her and her puppy, or has another dog so she can play and have doggy fun. Adele does go and play outside with the other pups and dogs and is very confident and if she is out there she will do her business She uses the dog door to get in and out and does go outside to do her business. She would benefit from lots of road trips and adventures, hiking, trips to the lake, the beach and anywhere that she can burn off some of her energy and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer.     Logan Breed: Catahoula Leopard Hound Mix Age: 1.5 years +/-; Neutered Male Weight: 50 pounds Dogs: Yes Cats: Yes Kids: 8+ Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: Texas This little goober is ready to be your new best friend! Logan is on the smaller side for a Catahoula but he wouldn't believe you if you told him. Logan loves to play fetch and run for hours with his foster siblings and then come inside for a good nap. He would do best with active owners or other dogs that like to play. Logan was afraid of everything (including the hardwood floor) when he first came to us and is still learning how to be a dog among humans. Right ... (Read More)now he has gotten comfortable with us and has blossomed into a very loving and trusting dog. He does still shy away from reaching hands at first, but he wants to trust and is making great progress. He is very submissive and really does just want to be friends with everybody. Logan is extremely smart and aware of his surroundings, given the right training he would make an excellent service dog or search dog. Logan likes to play rough and has had very little exposure to children, we would suggest he not go to a home with young children. He is potty trained and crate trained, if he is crated while his energy is high he might yell for a few seconds after being kenneled but he will stop and go right to sleep. He enjoys sleeping in his crate at night after getting his fair share of snuggles. Transition will be difficult for Logan, and we suspect that on the next leg of his journey Logan goes through he might revert back to being somewhat skiddish about humans and human related things (new furniture and appliances noises to get accustomed to). If he does, it would only be temporary as he learns to trust his new humans and environment. If you are interested in adopting Logan please email SLN2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Gunner is very scared of things he hasn't experienced, like the vets, and the groomers - he needs to be muzzled in situations like that. The more Gunner explores the world, though, with his new family the better he will be! If you would like to add this amazing dog to your home and heart please fill out our online application at www.miraclegsdmaine.org. We will not schedule meet & greets without an approved app on file.     SPENCER was transferred from a vet tech friend who needed help finding homes for the dogs she has saved from euthanasia in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. He is approximately 1 year old. ' SPENCER is a great boy, he is great with all the other dogs and the puppies just love him. He is mellow and laid back, but when it comes to play time his energy comes out and he will run and play as happy as can be. We do not have cats at the rescue and so cannot comment on how he will be around them. He is an affectionate boy and loves to give kisses. SPENCER is ... (Read More)living in the main room in the kennel building with the pups and some other dogs, he has access to a dog door to go outside and uses this to go out and do his business. I imagine that he is house-trained, however, he might not know to let you know he needs to go outside. SPENCER would benefit from an active family who understands this intelligent, energetic breed. We encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both SPENCER and humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. He would love to go on road trips and explore all the different sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. He rides great in the car and walks ok the leash. Rescue Me ID: 17-07-04-00461MUNECA (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

MUNECA was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 20 June 2016. MUNECA has been listed as an Border Collie. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think she breed/s is. MUNECA is a young girl just bursting with energy, she is smart, fun, active and gets excited when she interacts with people. She is located in our kennel building so I cannot say if she is house-trained, however, she uses the dog door to do her business. She can get vocal in ... (Read More)the kennels, but I do believe that is more for attention and because she wants to be out running and playing, which is what she should be doing at her age. MUNECA definitely needs an active family who can take her on adventures and give her lots of ways to expel all that energy that she has. She will need an alpha family who understand the need of training her. We recommend families work on basic and advanced obedience together as this helps to set boundaries and expectations, it also helps by MUNECA and her family to learn each others personalities, body language and help form a stronger bond. She is great with other dogs of all ages and sizes, she does get excited and can jump on them initially, however, a lot of that is also because she is in the kennel environment and not getting the full attention, love and affection that she needs. We do NOT have cats at the rescue, so we have no way of knowing or able to say how she would act with or around them. She would benefit from an active family that can take her on adventures, she is good with children, however, as mentioned does get excitable but with training, a routine, an understanding of her family being in charge and of course being able to expel that energy and put her mind to work, she would be an awesome family pet. MUNECA is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

LAYLA was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 6 June 2016. LAYLA has been listed as an Labrador Retriever. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think she breed/s is. LAYLA is a gorgeous, fun, affectionate, curious young girl who is bursting with energy and love. She gets on great with other dogs of all ages and sizes and loves to run, play, chase and wrestle. She is very affectionate and extremely curious watching everything I do and ... (Read More)taking it all on board, she watches when I open and close the gate as if processing how I am doing it. A smart girl for sure. We do not have cats at the rescue so we cannot comment on how she would act near or around them. LAYLA shares her kennel with her friend Maddi (husky mix) and they are constantly playing and wrestling at play time they just run and chase around enjoying the fresh air and being able to run free. Layla, like almost all dogs in rescue does jump up a lot, this is more eager to get attention and is an easy fix and will most likely stop when she has her own family and getting all the attention for herself. She will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both Layla and her humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. Layla would benefit from an active family who will take her on road trips, hikes, trips to the beach and lake and give her the chance to explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. Rescue Me ID: 17-07-04-00444JAKE (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

JAKE was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 8 April 2016. JAKE has been listed as an Husky Mix. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is. JAKE was adopted from the shelter in Texas as a young puppy and then dumped a few months later in a high kill shelter. Luckily for him his microchip led him back to the Humane Society who pulled him and took him back into their care. GaDaH then took him in and transferred him to the ... (Read More)safety of the rescue in Maine. JAKE is a highly active, intelligent, fun boy. He is confident and will stand his ground with other dogs. He has not shown any signs of aggression but does have slight alpha tendencies, however, I do believe if a more dominant alpha dog was around JAKE would submit, I do not think he has strong alpha traits. Jake is a fun boy, he loves to play with his tennis ball and will chase and throw it in the air. He chews on his bone and can keep himself occupied, but he does get bored easily so it is important that his new family understands he is young, energetic and intelligent and if he does not have the mental or physical stimulation then he will get bored. He will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both Jake and his humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. JAKE would love to go on road trips and adventures to the beach, the lake, hiking and anywhere and everywhere you go. He is a social boy who is great with people and gets on with other dogs. We do not have cats at the rescue so we cannot comment how he would act around cats. Jake is located in the kennel building and uses the dog door to go out to the run to do his business, so I would think he will be house trained, although he might need to learn to let you know that he needs to go outside. JAKE is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

IAN was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 6 October 2016. IAN has been listed as an Border Collie / Australian Shepherd. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is. IAN was an owner surrender with his brother and sister to the shelter in Texas. Their story is that the owner had the mother dog, who got stolen, he reported the theft to the police and when the police located the dog she was pregnant. She gave birth and ... (Read More)the owner kept three pups, 2 males and 1 female. He turned them into the shelter when they was around 8 months of age as he didn't have time for them. When IAN and his siblings arrived at the rescue they were extremely scared. The transport had said that they wouldn't come out of their crates at the stops and were just very fearful. Since being at the rescue they have started to warm up, it is just a matter of them building up confidence. Ian is the most confident of his siblings, but still is very wary, it is obvious he really wants to come up and get some love and affection, but he is not yet there in his confidence to do so. It really is just a matter of time of letting him see interaction with other dogs so that he can see that humans are safe. Each time I go into his kennel he will run out but come immediately back in, wagging his tail and inching closer each time. I do believe that in a safe, secure home environment with a family that has the time and patience to work with him and let him build up his trust in his own time, he will come round in a short period of time. He just needs to be able to do it in his own time and in his own way so that he isn't having anyone forced upon him. Needless to say he is not leash trained and when I took her to be neutered I had to carry him to and from the car and into the vets. He has never shown any kind of aggression, just fear and the staff at the vets said he was very sweet and was fine when they was handling him preparing her for surgery. He is located in the kennel building and does share a pen and run with his brother and is fine with other dogs. He does use the dog door to go out into the run to do his business, however, I do not know if he is house trained, but he is a smart boy and knows to go outside, so a little time teaching him to let you know he needs to go out is probably all he will need. IAN is a young boy and when he has gained confidence and can start enjoying life, he will need an active family. He is an intelligent dog and so along with lots of physical exercise he will need the same level of mental stimulation too. He would benefit from a family that is able to take him on lots of road trips and adventures on hikes, to the lake, the beach and anywhere he can enjoy and explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. He will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both Ian and his humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. Ian does need a special family with time, patience and understand to help him gain trust and confidence and who can be extra careful to make sure he can't run off or escape, however, when he has gained that trust I feel he will be a wonderful addition to any family with a very strong loving bond that will make all the extra effort so very much worth while. IAN is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Rescue Me ID: 17-07-04-00436BOLT (male)

Siberian Husky    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

BOLT was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 18 November 2015. BOLT has been listed as an Siberian Husky. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is. BOLT is an awesome boy with the most gorgeous blue eyes. He loves to talk to you and let you know when he is bored and needs some attention, or he will just chat along whilst he is waiting for his food. He is a great boy with a very loving, affectionate personality. He is ... (Read More)very responsive and will go in his kennel when told when I am cleaning outside, he sits on the dog bed and watches, waiting patiently for me to finish so he can come back out to check things out. He has been great with other dogs of all ages and sizes and plays well. We do not have cats at the rescue and so we are not able to comment on how he would be near or around them. BOLT is located in the kennel building and does use the dog door to go out in the run to do his business, I cannot say if he is house-trained but I am thinking he most likely is, he might just need to learn to let you know he wants to go outside. BOLT, being a husky is high maintenance when it comes to grooming, he will need at least daily brushing so he doesn't get matted and if ever he is bathed he will need to be dried thoroughly, especially the undercoat which will take a long time. Daily brushing is great for keeping control of the shedding and ensuring that he can cool down, or warm himself through the natural way that dogs do with the air flow through their coat. BOLT is a large breed boy and will need a lot of exercise both mental and physical. He is a smart boy and if left to get bored, then that is when most likely to get up to mischief. Hikes, long walks, runs on the beach, swims in the lake and of course in the winter playing in the snow, which being from Texas he has never experienced are all adventures that he would enjoy and benefit from. He rides great in the car and is happy to venture wherever you take him so that he can explore the sights, smells and sounds that the world has to offer. BOLT is very responsive and I believe training would be easy and a lot of fun. He needs a family that has the time to work with him on at least basic and advanced obedience. We recommend families work on training at home together so that boundaries and expectations can be learnt and by working together both BOLT and his family can learn more about each others personalities, and body language and thus form a stronger bond. HUSKY's are not a breed for everyone and if you are not experienced with the breed, you must do your research, apart from shedding a lot of hair all year round they are very intelligent and intelligent dogs can become a problem if they are not mentally challenged. BOLT with the right family will be a lot of fun, he is an all round great boy and has lots of love and fun to share. BOLT is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Rescue Me ID: 17-07-04-00074SHEBA (female)

Great Dane    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

SHEBA was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 31 May 2016. SHEBA has been listed as an Great Dane /Catahoula mix We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is. SHEBA is an awesome girl, she is so full of love and happiness, it is contagious when you see her, prancing around like a spring lamb when she sees anyone. She has so much love and affection and will come up and lean into you, stretching her head up so that you can ... (Read More)scratch and rub her neck. SHEBA has been great with all the dogs of all ages and sizes. We have puppies and she is wonderful with them, having recently had a litter that were adopted from the shelter she is still maternal and teaches these other pups some puppy manners and also lets them know when their behaviour is unacceptable. She did try to mount a few dogs when she first met them, but stopped when they let her know they did not appreciate it. This indicates to me that she does have alpha tendencies, but if there is a dog that is a stronger alpha she will not pursue. We do not have cats at the rescue so we are unable to comment on how she would act with or around cats. SHEBA would benefit from a family that is familiar with large breed dogs and the Great Dane personality and needs. She is a big girl, although small for a Great Dane, but may well have some more growing left to do. She does need lots of both mental and physical exercise to keep her body and mind active and stimulated. We recommend and expect that families partake in at least basic and advanced training. We believe that by doing this as a family together at home, then both SHEBA and her family can learn each others personality, body language and families can set down expectations and boundaries. She would love to be taken on road trips to lots of new places where she can explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. She is a great girl, so much fun and so sweet and would be a great addition to a loving, active family. SHEBA is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org SHEBA is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-06-10-00304CLAWD (male)

Schnauzer Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

CLAWD was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick-disease tested; Negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 22 March 2017 and has an estimated weight of 8 pounds. CLAWD's mother, DUSTY is a Schnauzer mix - we do not know what breed his father is. He has 2 siblings, SPECTRA & CLAWD. We have no idea how big he will grow, DUSTY is 37 pounds. CLAWD is a young boy with a LOT of energy bursting to get out. He can get vocal in a playful way but is very responsive. He gets very excited and playful and is a happy, go-lucky boy, full of fun, ... (Read More)life and energy. CLAWD is at that goofy age but is also very affectionate and loves to get cuddles and his belly rubbed and ear scratched. He loves toys and especially loves to chew on the cow hooves. He gets on great with other dogs of all sizes. CLAWD has been around dogs since he was just a few weeks old and so he is extremely dog socialized with dogs of all sizes and many different breeds. He is friendly with new people and children. He has not had a collar or leash on and will be initially wary of going to new places, so patience will be needed until trust and confidence with the big wide world has been gained. We do NOT have cats at the rescue so are unable to say how he would get on with cats. CLAWD is going to need a family that is used to big, smart dogs. Who understand that he will need training and guidance and learns that humans are in charge. We advise that families work on their own basic training so that boundaries and expectations can be set and personalities and body language learnt in the process, which will help form a much stronger bond. Going on road trips, to new places, hikes and adventures and letting her explore the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer will be to his and your benefit. CLAWD will make a great family addition, she is fun, active and very loving and deserves a good family and home to call her own. CLAWD is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. We get a lot of interest in puppies and need to be sure families are ready for the hard work puppies bring into the home, who have the time to work with them and ensure they grow up with good manners and a life-long commitment to them. Priority is given to approved applications who can come and pick up the dog the soonest so that we can then save another dog from the kill shelters in Texas. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org CLAWD is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Rescue Me ID: 17-06-09-00159SAM (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

SAM was saved from a shelter in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 3DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 25 April 2011 and weighs around 75 pounds. MAX has been listed as a German Shepherd Dog. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think his breed/s is. Although SAM is classed as a senior boy, he still has plenty of energy and would love a family that is active and can take him on long walks, hikes and adventures. He rides great in the car and has been friendly with everyone he has met so far. He does ... (Read More)appear to be abused as if I am telling him 'no' to something he will cower, or roll on his back and wave his paw as if wanting to push a hand or object out of the way. It is very sad to see, but I am reassuring him that the life he once knew is over and hopefully he will forget. SAM can be a bit grumpy at times with some of the other dogs, but he is living amongst lots of young puppies and young, energetic dogs so I am sure he gets irritated with them. He has not been aggressive, but has snapped a few times to let the other dogs know he just wants space and to be left alone. SAM is very responsive and clearly just wants to please his owner and be loved for the boy he is. He is a gentle soul and has a lovely laid back personality, he does still need a good amount of exercise as he is a big boy, however, he loves to just lay as close as he can and relax. We do not have cats at the rescue so cannot comment on how he would act around them. ' SAM is located in our kennel building and uses the extreme weather dog door to get in and out of her run. He has not had any accidents in the kennel. SAM, as with all rescue dogs are in need of basic and advanced training and we recommend that families spend time with him working on basic obedience and manners, this helps to set boundaries, expectations and allows both SAM and his humans to learn more about each others personality and body language. I also bring SAM over to the house and he goes outside to do his business. He loves to chew on the cow hooves and is happy sitting in the background watching the other dogs get up to their craziness, although I am sure a more laid back home environment would be much better for him. SAM is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of US $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-23-00201BENTLEY (male)

Maltese Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

BENTLEY was saved from a shelter in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 20 April 2012 and weighs around 11 pounds. The paperwork I have from the vets and shelter have BENTLEY aged as 2yrs, 4yrs and 10 yrs. At our annual state inspection, I asked the veterinarian to have a look at him to see what age she thought he was, she estimated him to be between 4-6 years. BENTLEY has been diagnosed as having Intervertebral Disc Disease T-L, which as per the PetPlace.com website 'is a condition that occurs when pressure ... (Read More)is placed on the spinal cord by disc material that herniates beneath or adjacent to the cord. This condition is commonly referred to as Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) that can occur in the thoracolumbar area of the back. The condition may be an acute (occurs suddenly) or chronic (slowly develops over time) condition in dogs.' We do have x-rays that can be emailed to his adopting family, or direct to their vets. BENTLEY gets around just fine and is happy wondering and exploring wherever he is. He is given anti-inflammatory in the form of steroids when he seems to be in pain and according to our vet, this will be his medical plan for the foreseeable future. As long as he is getting around fine, then all is good, however, if he appears to be in pain or discomfort then a course of steroids would help him through. BENTLEY as mentioned is still relatively active, he loves to explore outside, and although long walks and hikes would not be suitable, pottering around at his own pace keeps him happy. BENTLEY seems to be very interested in his surroundings more than humans initially, but once he has checked everywhere out and is happy, he comes over for some love and fuss and will settle down on your lap or on the chair beside you to enjoy the day. BENTLEY does like to 'talk' and let you know he is there, but with interaction he does stop and is happy and content with whatever attention he is getting. BENTLEY gets on great with other dogs, although he is generally of exploring instead of playing with the other dogs. Part of that is most likely due to his back issues, but I think it is also his personality - a little explorer. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. BENTLEY is hoping that he finds a family that is not put off by his condition as it is manageable, who appreciates his independence, but also gives him all the love and cuddles that he needs and deserves and has most likely never had. He is not going to appreciate getting picked up and put down all the time so ramps to get on and off the furniture and your knee would be preferred. He loves going out and exploring and this is good for him mentally and physically. A family that understands he will need on going vet care, but if they have a good relationship with their vet, his condition does not have to be expensive to maintain. Steroids are not expensive and they are to be administered as and when needed. Obviously as he gets older and the disease progresses he will need to be re-assessed and the treatment plan, if needed adjusted accordingly. BENTLEY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-23-00176Rufus - MA (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rufus Breed: Catahoula Leopard Mix Age: 4 years +/-; Neutered Male Weight: 50 pounds Dogs: Yes Cats: Yes Kids: 8+ Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: Massachusetts Rufus is a super nice fella that has a lot of energy. He is a very people-centric dog that wants and loves to please. He really likes other dogs, but some do not like him! Rufus, likes to play and to get others to play he thinks he should bark in their face. As you can imagine, not everyone likes this and some find it very scary! Rufus, just wants to have a great time and tear around and he doesn't get that it is bad etiquette. Rufus has great manners in terms of ... (Read More)house training, his crate and he even knows basic obedience/tricks! He is very, very smart. He is still strong on the leash and is working on leash manners. He will bark like a bad man to get other dogs attention if he sees them, as he is very much about attention. He does have a fear of thunderstorms and fireworks and needs someone to help him during those times. Rufus is going to do best in a very active home, that likes to run, hike, etc. He also will do best with an owner that either will take him to work or works from home; or has a short amount of time away from the home. Rufus' downfall is that he is an escape artist, he can escape from just about any fence anywhere and will do best if he is kept on leash and very active. Rufus is a dog that has a fabulous amount of untapped potential, he just needs the right person to bond with and to bring that shine out! If you are interested in fostering or even adopting Rufus please email SLN2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. Rufus's adoption donation is $350 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada. (Less)

Basset Hound Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. BENSON was saved from Texas where most dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. BENSON is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 1 February 2015 and weighs around 38 pounds. 'BENSON was saved with his brother ASTRO and both boys are so much fun. BENSON is very puppy-like in his behaviour, he is so very happy, he loves to play with toys and chase around wrestling and playing with his ... (Read More)brother. He is great with other dogs and has been around small 5 pound dogs up to 95 pound dogs and gets on great with all of them. BENSON uses the dog door to go out and do his business. He is a happy confident boy, so much life, energy and love to give. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. We would love to adopt both BENSON and ASTRO together as they clearly enjoy each other's company a lot, however, we will adopt them out individually to a family that can give them what they need. BENSON would suit a relatively active fun family that has the time to work with him on her obedience and manners, who would take him on adventures and road trips and let him explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. He would benefit from a family that has the time to work with him on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both BENSON and his humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! BENSON is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of US $250 This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org BENSON is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Maine
Dogs can make good pets in Maine if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
