If you are looking for a very high energy, playful, and athletic young lady I'm your girl! I would probably do best with a young mature playmate with a lot of energy but who can help guide me in the right direction though I behave very well with an elderly dog who is big and can't walk very well. A little coaxing and a treat will get me into my crate and I will settle down and be quiet after only a few minutes. I am very responsive to communication, treat oriented, and am trying real hard to be a quick learner. I am learning to walk on a leash, sit, and not jump up on people. I haven't tried digging under my fenced yard but I will try to jump over a fence to get to my favorite person though I am really good about going to my foster mommy when called with a squeaky type of noise. Sometimes she will come up to us and rest her head near our sofa or lap because she wants to be pet. She is very happy to cuddle if she is picked up and placed next to us. She sleeps in my bed if I lift her onto it and she will stretch out and make herself very relaxed and comfortable, and will even let you rub her tummy. If you don't want her on the bed she is also perfectly happy to sleep in her own bed on the floor. She is housetrained! She loves going for walks and does very well on the leash. She also likes to chew on dental sticks or treat sticks. She does not chew anything around the house but her own toys/treats. She is great with other dogs that are not aggressive and acts more like her true self when she is around them as she becomes playful and animated. She took low dose anti-anxiety medication for a short while, which helped her relax around people but is now being weaned off of it. Pepsi needs a bit of patience and understanding in order for her to come out of her shell. However, she would still make a wonderful companion! Harley 5.5 year old male Labrador Retriever - neutered big boy.. weighs 82 pounds right now and is about 5 to 8 pounds underweight Good with most other dogs but is not really a 'player' so would do fine as an only dog. Harley does have some resource guarding with toys/chew bones with other dogs. It's random and not all of the time but it happens enough that he would likely do best as an 'only' dog unless a family with a dog already has experience and patience to work with resource guarding. Harley is NOT GOOD WITH CATS. Harley has been around children as young as 3 but not for an extended period (only a couple of days) and he did fine. ... (Read More) However, we feel he would be best in a home with older children (12+) because of his resource guarding and he will 'mouth' still, especially when you are trying to put his harness or leash on or when you want him to move and he doesn't want to move. I will not place him with a family that will be adding children in the future because he has already paid the 'baby price'. Harley is fully house and crate trained. He knows several basic commands and walks nicely on the leash. He heels most of the time and has no leash reactivity except for when he sees a cat. He does fine meeting other dogs, people, horses, chickens, etc. on walks and he walks well with other dogs. Harley is a wee bit of a spoiled boy. He learned early in life that he could do as he pleased so we are working on behavior modification and he's picking things up fast. He does try to test boundaries so he will need firm leadership not a permissive owner. He will try to get away with as much as possible. Harley's recall is so-so and he could not be off leash at this time. He will need a physical fenced yard or to be on a leash when outside at least until he bonds with his new people and they work on recall with him. Harley would do best in a stand-alone home as he will bark when he hears things. He would especially love a home with a pool :) or on water where he could go for a swim daily. He LOVES to swim. Needs an active family willing to walk/run him at least twice a day. He's getting about 6 to 7 miles a day right now. (Read More)entertain each other, they still need plenty of exercise...because they are puppies and are high energy terrier mixes. They are currently getting 4 to 5 miles of walks/day plus play time with each other and other dogs in our large fenced yard. Once they are on a routine, they have 'down time' after walks and play sessions. Looking for a home within a 2.5 hour radius of Washington, DC but can consider other areas IF we have someone that can do a home visit. We will not send dogs anywhere that we cannot accomplish a home visit. (Pittsburgh, southeastern PA, Delaware, southern NJ, some parts of North Carolina, some parts of South Carolina, eastern WV, Denver, Colorado, LAX and San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, and Portland are all areas where we have volunteers that can do home visits. Bindi and Rika are being fostered in the Washington, DC area. They are 9 months old and weigh in the 19 to 20 pound range. They will not get any bigger. Bindi is the more confident of the two pups and loves to play and she doesn't have much fear. She is a big dog in a small dogs body. Rika is a bit more hesitant to play with larger dogs and tends to be a bit standoffish if Bindi is playing with a dog other than her. Both puppies have longer bodies and short legs. They have longish, wirey hair - Rika's being a bit more wavy and softer than Bindi's. They are both house-broken and crate trained and are pretty good about only chewing on appropriate things. Both puppies are jumpers (they will jump up on you) but take correction well. They have only mastered a couple of basic commands. My fault...just don't have time to work more with them. If they are not competing for treats, they take them quite gently but if all of the dogs are around waiting for treats, they can be a bit rough. We feel it's best they go to a home with older children (8+) because of the jumping and potential nipping when taking treats. Neither puppy has been cat tested and based on how they chase rabbits and birds in our yard, I would think they would probably chase a cat. Vetting accomplished already: 2 combination vaccines, rabies vaccine, heart worm test, bordatella vaccine, spay. Heart worm negative and current on monthly preventatives.
