Nana is a beautiful black and tan purebred german shepherd, just turned one year old. She is a very people friendly dog, still jumps on people though in her enthusiasm. She loves children too and is reliable with kids. She has passed Basic Obedience and is up to date on vaccines. When introduced slowly she does play with other large dogs, she does not like smaller dogs and can not be trusted around them. She would probably do better in a people only household. He's very playful but due to his size he may seem to roughplay, he got in trouble for scratching my girlfriend's daughter on the nose while trying to get away from her. Jake is a 12 year old Jack Russell. The only reason this dog is going up for adoption is because we live in a small basement apartment and have a toddler with another one on the way. Having kids in a small space with a dog is becoming too much for me to handle during this stage in our lives. I feel horrible getting rid of him at this stage of his life but the vet said he is in good health and its very common to see a 17 year old Jack Russell. My mom originally owned Jake's mother. We had given him away when he was a few months old to a family member. We got him back when he was 7 years old to find out that he had been abused through most ... (Read More)of that time. He was nervous around young kids and would nip at their shoe if they got to close and were aggressive with him. He never has broken skin that I am aware of. The family that had him had two boys. I added not good with kids but also showed the picture of him with my son when he was first born. Jake has been great with my son but he also has known him from birth. He has never bit at my son who is now over 2 years old. Jake is a very laid back dog. He mostly sleeps on the couch but also loves walks and to go out side. He has been this way ever since we have had him so I do not believe it is an age thing. He is partially deaf and blind so for that we keep him on a leash when we walk. I labeled him as being good with most dogs. The only dogs he doesn't enjoy being around is hyper dogs. Jake doesn't bark unless he is locked in the cage and knows that someone is home. Please help rehome my dog! Dutchess is a beautiful 8 yr. old but everyone that meets her thinks she is 3 or 4. She has plenty of years ahead of her. I rescued her when she was 4 because the people that had her couldn't afford to feed her anymore and were going to put her to sleep. Trapper is an 8-year old beagle, neutered male. Originally adopted from FCAC shelter in January 2009, his anxiety has improved overall but he is still prone to indoor potty accidents. Work schedule keeps us from giving him the home he would thrive in. Needs a home that can give him LOTS of playtime outside to reduce anxiety. He's very friendly, good with kids and adults. Boudreaux was recently hit by a pick-up truck and left for dead. His right rear femur was dislocated, his hip was slightly fractured, and he had some cuts and scrapes. He had no collar and was not chipped. Boudreaux has been with his foster dad since his emergency visit to the vet. His dislocation was reset under anesthesia, his cuts were stitched and his right rear leg was set in a sling and immobilized. His first day was spent waking up from the anesthesia and the shock of being hit by an automobile. By the next day, Boudreaux's personality started to emerge. Boudreaux's progress since then has been nothing short of amazing. He can stand, walk, and even semi-run on just 3 legs. He recently discovered the giant basket of dog toys that his canine foster-sister, Lucy, keeps in the den. He proceeded to pull out every one that he could reach. Boudreaux is quiet and extremely affectionate, although he is not big on giving out kisses. Foster Dad loves to hold his head and look into those loving eyes. Boudreaux loves to eat. He is a Beagle after all! And he loves to lay back and relax on his bed on the floor next to his human. It has been over a week since Boudreaux's arrival and we've not yet heard his voice. Eddie is crate-trained and often retires to a crate during the evening to sleep. He is learning his name and to come when called. The house-training is a work in progress, but he is getting the idea. We have not yet started other training, but Eddie, like most beagles, is very food oriented, so he should train rather easily. He is not much of a barker. When his siblings run to the fence to announce to the world that a bunny, squirrel, or human with or without a dog is passing the house, Eddie just watches or runs back to the porch. He does not dig in the yard or garden. He is a powerful chewer, and often seeks out a durable toy for his chewing pleasure. While tall enough to counter-surf, Eddie does not seem interested in that particular sport. Eddie needs some work with leash-walking. It can be challenging if he is being walked with another dog. They can work in tandem to wrap you up. He does not seem to have any issues when traveling in a car, and can accompany you on your vacations. Bronx is on the quiet side, and quite affectionate. She's curious in that beagley way...sniff sniff here, sniff sniff there, here a sniff, there a sniff. You know how it goes. Of course, her sniffer works overtime because she doesn't get out of the crate much. There's not much left to sniff in there, so when she gets out in the yard for a potty break, she takes advantage of it. Right now Bronx is stuck at the vet while she awaits foster and/or adoption. Scruff is a handsome, very nice, and very grateful senior boy. Scruff came to us mid-December. Not that many older dogs walk out of the shelter, but Scruff was charming and our volunteer fell in love with him. Scruff is heartworm positive and has begun treatment. He's tolerating it well. His foster mom says he's a real sweetheart - quiet, not vocal, and content to be in the same room as his human. There are other dogs in the home and Scruff gets along well with them. Cranberry has much for which to be thankful. He was pulled from the shelter the day before Thanksgiving. He was so happy to get out of that scary, noisy place! As our volunteer was trolling the shelter, Cranberry came to the front of the pen as if to say, 'Pick me! Pick me!' The hour was too late to take him to the vet, so she took him home for the night. A bit timid at first, Cranberry's shyness quickly wore off as he set about exploring his new environment. He followed our volunteer around all night and freely handed out kisses. We suspect she'd view one as a great toy to bat around. This beautiful girl needs a yard with a very tall (6+ feet) security fence. She is able to leap a four-foot fence in a single bound. Sweetpea is longing for a home where she'll receive all the love and affection that she so deserves. Joy was dropped off at the emergency vet as a stray. Her hind legs were completely paralyzed (reason unknown) and she had no deep-pain sensation. No one really knew if she could recover. Harvey is a total sweetheart! You will melt the first time he looks at you with those hound-brown eyes. He has the most gentle demeanor and is very easy-going. Candy came to us from a kill shelter in South Carolina. When BRSM was first contacted, Candy was pregnant. We finally got her and her six puppies and placed them with a foster home that volunteered to care for them. Candy was very thin, the result of a neglectful owner, with heartworm and other parasites.
