Rescue Me ID: 17-04-04-00324Angel (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Needs to be Spayed

Very loyal and protective of her owners 3 year old female German Shepherd dog looking for a new home. Or otherwise she will be sedated or in other words killed.%A0 Her name is Angel. She is regarded as a dangerous dog according to MN state statute 347.51. She NEVER attacked or was aggressive to people, NEVER. She lives on camping grounds where lots of people come to camp and we are not allowed to keep her there anymore and can't afford to pay all the fees associated with this accident. There was an accident, she attacked other dog. Due to this attack accident she has to be put to sleep in 11 days. She has ONLY 11 days left to live, till ... (Read More)April 15th if no one adopts her.%A0 There are 7 things that the LAW RREQUIRES the owner to do in order to keep this great, super sweet and loving dog alive: 1. You must contain this dog in a proper enclosure and post your property with clearly visible warning signs that there is a dangerous dog. 2. You must insure this dog and provide evidence (document). 3. You must microchip her. 4. You must sterilize her. 5. Angel must wear a collar tag identifying the dog's owner and the fact that the dog is dangerous.%A0 6. You must notify the animal control authority in writing of the death of the dog or its transfer to a new location. 7. You will need to pay $250 filing fee to Crow Wing County. It is not a cheap buy, somewhere around $1000 total for all the 'you must' things. We are not charging anything, you would have to pay somewhere around $1000 to cover these 7 things. She really deserves to live. She is very sweet, loving and loyal dog. She is kind of protective of 'her humans' when other dogs get too close to them. She loves all the freedom she had before the accident. She was free to roam around 120 acres of land of this property and often visited neighbors. Now she is chained and very sad about it. She loves to go to a lake or a stream that are on this property to wash herself often. So she needs to be able to wash herself daily. It is a great loss for us but we don't have any other choices.%A0 PLEASE GIVE HER A SECOND CHANCE. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-04-00323  (female)

Weimaraner    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Male Dogs Only, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected,
 Fearful/Anxious

She is a long haired Wiemeraner. She is a wonderful rescue. :) We have had her since October 2016. She is an INSIDE only dog. She cannot be kenneled. She cannot be left alone for very long periods of time, magain due to her issues. She does well with free roam of the house for about 5 hours otherwise you might want to teach her to use an indoor potty patch or come home for lunch to let her out and pay attention to her. She does not like loud noises and constant chaos. It will make her anxiety & fearfulness worse and that is also why she does not do well with kids because they are just to loud & obnoxious to her. We will be picky where she ... (Read More)goes due to her issues. Her adoption fee is for a wonderful home & for her spay that will be taken care of before she goes to her new home. She has learned alot. She knows, stop, sit, stay, drop it, bring it, go potty, back up (because we do not allow our dogs in the kitchen)and come. She is very sweet, attentive, loving and playful. She loves to play fetch with the frisbee. She also likes to chew on things so we give her only natural bones, NO rawhide, due to her sensitive stomach issues, and she is fine. She is on a natural diet of fish & peas with extra salmon oil and zinc supplement that we give her due to her Alopecia, which will go with her. She is definitely growing her hair back though slowly but surely. She is a good protector once she gets to know you & settle into her new surroundings. She will bark when she sees or hears things and she will come to you and sit in front of you to let you know that she has to go potty. Please give this beautiful sweet loving girl a wonderful caring loving home! :) (Less)

Animal ID: 17-054Chopper (male)

Yorkie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Chopper is fostered with his brother in St. Paul, MN through United Yorkie Rescue http://unitedyorkierescue.org Chopper is a 10 lb, 4 yr. old (in May 2017) Yorkie (mix? unknown) boy who came to United Yorkie Rescue in March 2017 with his brother Piper. The boys were rescued from a South Dakota shelter, both in very good shape with neuter, up to date on shots, good weight and wonderful personalities. (no chip) Chopper must be adopted with his brother Piper, to a family with a fenced yard, and quiet home. (older children only) Chopper's history is unknown, but he appears to have been loved and taken care of, he fell right into routine like he ... (Read More)knew the ropes, is potty trained (hasn't had an accident in the house as of yet) stands by the door to go out, knows his name (his vet records from prior owner show his name as Chopper), loves to snuggle and interact with the family. Chopper is great with other dogs his size, (no large dogs please) and does well with children, although he chases them. Chopper's a sweet boy who loves his snuggles on the couch and in bed, loves investigating the yard, and in general just wants to be by his person. He's a very alert boy with large beautiful, inquisitive eyes that look right into your soul. He also loves snuggling his brother Piper, he's rarely away from his side and we've determined they're a bonded pair and must be placed together. This shouldn't deter anyone, this pair is so sweet, easy to care for and fun! Chopper does well in a kennel at night, but of course loves to sleep in bed with his foster family (mom, dad and two other dogs), he has displayed minimal fear (more like caution when meeting someone new or in a new environment) and warms up quickly, no aggression. He'll occasionally join in barking when his foster siblings are barking, or if he's in a playful mood, but doesn't engage on his own. When Chopper and his brother arrived to rescue they had terrible ear infections, which included terrible yeast infections, and were treated with antibiotic and ear flushes for a couple of weeks. Because of this it will be important that Chopper's family commit to 4/5 star rated food and a limited ingredient diet, to help with allergies. He's been on a grain free diet since recovering from the ear infections, to see if this helps. It's unknown if the ears will be a persistent issue, but will need to be monitored. Regular ear flushes with products that help prevent bacteria and yeast growth, available over the counter or ordered online, may be helpful. He is food motivated, loves scrambled eggs, healthy dog treats, fruit and veggies, and has no trouble begging for whatever he thinks he can get! He's at a perfect weight, so we're not letting him win the treats too often. Foster mom can work on his diet with the adopters, as he's also getting a home made mix of meats, fruits and veggies as part of a whole food limited ingredient diet which is very easy to make and freeze in small containers to be taken out as needed for use. Chopper is a flight risk, while he loves to be near you, he will dash through an open door and easily escape outside. Because of this he needs a family understanding of the caution and safeguards needed to protect him. He is known to quickly and easily squeeze through doors unnoticed, and a fenced yard provides extra safety as well as providing him with the room he needs to stretch his legs as he's young with energy. See a video of the boys at play attached. A different video is attached to brother Piper's bio. Animal ID: 17-056Piper (male)

Yorkie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Piper is fostered with his brother in St. Paul, MN through United Yorkie Rescue http://unitedyorkierescue.org Piper is a 6.5 lb., 4 yr. old (in May 2017) Yorkie (mix?) boy who came to Rescue in March 2017 with his brother Chopper. The boys were rescued from a South Dakota shelter, both in very good shape with neuter, up to date on shots, good weight and wonderful personalities. (no chip) Piper's history is unknown, but he appears to have been loved and taken care of, he fell right into routine with his foster like he knew the ropes. He is 'mostly' potty trained (on a schedule) and will stand by the door to go out or go into the kitchen ... (Read More)where there is pee pads, and take aim. He's had early morning accidents, when we didn't get up soon enough to take him out. (it's that little bladder, he needs frequent potty breaks, he can't be kenneled for a full day while his people are at work) He came with his name, and loves to snuggle and interact with the family. Piper is great with other dogs his size (small dogs only due to his size) and children - older kids only in the home due to his size. One of his favorite places is the arm or back of the couch where he can be up high to observe what's going on around him. He's a talker and will tell you when he wants love and when he isn't getting enough! He also loves snuggling his brother Chopper, he's rarely away from Chopper's side and we've determined they're a bonded pair and must be placed together. Piper does well in a kennel at night, but of course loves to sleep in bed with his foster family (mom, dad and two other dogs). Piper has displayed minimal fear with people, no aggression, and is very submissive. His favorite position is on his back getting belly rubs, when not curled up snuggling. Piper doesn't bark much, he'll join in when his foster siblings are excited barking about something, sometimes when he's looking for attention, but doesn't engage on his own. He does fairly well with stairs, he's learned to go up the stairs to the couch and bed, and the stairs from the deck to the yard to go potty, but hasn't tackled the stairs from between the basement walk out and main level of the house. Stairs will be a necessary tool for this little guy to save his knees and prevent injury since he's a small boy. When Piper and his brother Chopper arrived to rescue they had terrible ear infections, which included bad yeast infections, and were treated with antibiotics and ear flushes for a couple of weeks. Because of this it will be important that Piper's family commit to 4/5 star rated food and a limited ingredient diet, to help with allergies. He's currently on a grain free diet to see if this helps. It's unknown if the ears will be a persistent issue, but will need to be monitored. Regular ear flushes with products that help prevent bacteria and yeast growth, available over the counter or ordered online, may be helpful. He's food motivated, loves scrambled eggs, healthy dog treats, fruits and begging for whatever he thinks he can get! He's at a perfect weight, so we're not letting him win the treats too often. UPDATE: Piper continues to flourish as he and his brother Chopper settle into routine in their foster home. A couple of new observations have been made with a little more time in the home: Piper doesn't do well with loud noises and commotion. His foster brother and sister are quite noisy when it comes play time, and their barking and excitement sends Piper and Chopper running for cover. Unsure about the commotion, Piper will curl into a ball and shake. They are quiet activity time boys, they'll lay down and roll around on their backs, gently play bite your fingers, and in general just want attention and tummy rubs and kisses, the whole noise part of play is not familiar to them and seems to freak them out. While outside they'll dash around and bark with excitement, I guess the difference is that it's on their terms, they're controlling the situation. With some more time they'll hopefully adjust and get better with noise and excitement around them. Piper is quite the little escape artist, Chopper is pretty quick himself, but not nearly as much as Piper. He's a quick whip and has managed to escape through the laundry room door into the garage a few times without being able to stop him. The boys must be in a home with a fenced yard and watchful eye. Both boys love going outside and dashing from one side to the other, rolling in the grass and laying in the sun. Going for walks is enjoyable, with attention paid to noisy cars and other things that freak them out a little. Sweet and loving as ever, he loves to be held and snuggled. If you're looking for the love of your life, this little boy has been waiting for you to come along! See a different video of the boys playing on Chopper's bio!     Remi is also part Great Dane, so he is a big boy. I stated that he is good with kids, but he can be iffy with them. He lives with a 5 & 3 year old currently and if he doesn't like something he will growl/bark; so to be safe for everyone, he will not go to a home with young kids. He knows the basic commands (sit, stay, shake, down, waits for the ok command to eat, can hold things in his mouth) and does great with other dogs. He is completely potty trained, crate trained and mircochipped. He loves the car, dog park and just being with his people. He needs someone who is willing to be alpha, which unfortunately isn't me. I will be picky about ... (Read More)where he goes. (Less)

Spitz    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

I have an eleven year old Finnish Spitz, Em%A4nt%A4 (Em) that I hope to have adopted to a new home. Em is a very sweet dog and I've had her since she was eight weeks old. The reason that I'm seeking to place her into a new home is because I have another Finnish Spitz, Sisko, who just turned two and both dogs think that they should be the Dog Queen of the house. They don't actually fight very often but when Sisko shows dominance over Em, or even just lays in a doorway preventing Em from passing, Em will start barking. One woman took Em for a couple of weeks in early January but when one of her male cats tried fighting with Em, she started ... (Read More)barking. Em really needs to be in a one pet household. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-11-00257Dolly (female)

Pit Bull    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Cancer

[Read About Natural Cancer Care] Hello, and thank you proactively for your presence with this. My name is Sohail and I am a resident of Minneapolis. It's with a heavy heart that I am writing this email on behalf of myself, my partner Micah, and his wonderful pit bull Dolly. We are seeking assistance with Sheltering/Rehoming Dolly due to the following situation, and are wanting any help with how to do about doing this. Micah and Dolly moved in with me on Friday, where they have been living in a small city in Alabama for the past year. Micah rescued Dolly on the first day he moved back with his family after finding her malnourished and ... (Read More)very ill by a river by his house. He took Dolly in and tended to her back to health, and later found out she was pregnant with 8 puppies :) She's a loving, sweet calm girl, and has only been around the presence of Micah's family and two of the puppies that she birthed. We thought long and hard about her moving with him to the city, and we landed brining her here because his parents were not able to tend to her. I personally have a rescue dog as well, who has lived with me for three years. Her name is Beard. Beard has been around many dogs and is a very loving and calm dog as well, so we both were very hopeful that they would be well together. We did an array of research regarding introducing new dogs to each other, and came at this with a very optimistic lens. On the first night of introductions it was very clear that Dolly was very aggressive on leash around Beard and we're not concerned about her safety. My ex has her now, and after a very long and hard reflection we're needing assistance to find Dolly a new home and not sure where to go. Micah is rightfully distraught over this, and we've tried to leverage the help of his family back in Alabama, but they're simply not able to take her back. In my apartment complex we also have neighbors who have a small dog, and we're also concerned about her safety. This is all so very hard because Dolly has been such a loving, calm, sweet dog around me as a new person in her life, and has always been that way back home. I am very very hopeful that you're able to assist in this process because we're not sure where to go from here. Is this something you can assist with? Do you know of any other resources that I can reach out to? I would love to have a conversation with you if you'd prefer to chat via phone - my cell is 920-216-3322. Thank you so very much, and really hoping to connect soon. Dolly is also now cancer free :) Best, (Less)

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lucky is a lovely young smooth collie mix female. She is a 10-month-old puppy. Lucky came to us as an owner surrender. Her former owners were an elderly couple who bought her recently and quickly realized that a puppy was a bit too much for them and their 17-year-old existing dog to handle. Lucky is a sweet, very loving dog, and is very playful when she feels comfortable in new situations. She is getting along well with the other dogs in her foster home. Lucky is used to being indoors but is not completely housebroken, due to the short time being in her last home. She will be an ideal family pet with her sweet demeanor. Lucky has ... German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Tucker has a great personality, and needs to go to a loving home able to provide him with the stimulation needed to keep his brain working. He is very intelligent and does well with frequent walks. He is a sweetheart and likes to curl up on the couch with anyone that wants to give him attention. He is approximately 70 pounds but thinks he is a lap dog. We do not have children, but he has done well with friends kids and kids saying 'hi' on walks. He must go to a home with no cats or other small animals. We are having to rehome him due to conflicts with our family cat. He has a very strong prey drive for squirrels, rabbits, or other ... (Read More)small rodents encountered while out and about, which occasionally results in needing to hold on tight to the leash. He gets along well with other dogs after an initial introduction. He wants to play rough and this can appear to be aggressive to some, and may bark at other dogs on walks. He gets along extremely well with our other family dog. We will miss Tucker greatly as he is such a fun, loving dog. However, the cat has been here for 10 years and takes precedent. (Less)

Chihuahua    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive

Charlie is a very loyal, loving, highly protective dog. Although, he is also a little aggressive with new people it's just because he is trying to protect us, he does bite when he is being defensive. He can get used to new people pretty quick and he loves little children. He is definitely a cuddler and loves attention. Lately, he's been having allergies and he has to be on medications and it is getting a little too much over our budget. He has not been tested yet for any specific allergies due to the financial issue, but we strongly feel that is could be our new cat that we recently adopted.

We adopted Fitz from a rescue when he was 2 and now he is about to turn 5. He is a loving, energetic and smart lab mix that has some special quirks. Fitz is best in a home with adults only and as the only pet. He does get along with other dogs fine after he becomes comfortable with them. He does show resource protection especially around food and treats towards other dogs. He loves to sprint at the dog park, cuddle up in blankets and learn new tricks.     aisy was a stray found in St Paul, and brought to the St Paul AHS . She was actually a dog known to the AHS community outreach person. Daisy had a microchip, but sadly was not reclaimed by her family. She was living with children, no cats, and she does seem very excited by the sight of small animals, but her attention can be redirected . She is particularly easy to walk when using a Gentle Leader, and is becoming a much calmer dog than when we first got her. PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Minnesota
Dogs can make good pets in Minnesota if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia Low-Cost Minnesota Spay & Neuter Clinics
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.)
