Rescue Me ID: 16-08-23-00216Gunther (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We are trying to re-home Gunther. We adopted him about a year ago and have realized that he needs more time, attention and exercise than we are able to give him. He is a great dog that doesn't realize that he's not a puppy. Gunther is a typical, goofy lab who absolutely loves to retrieve and swim. He is well-behaved indoors, and is not crated. He would do best with a family or someone who has a large yard where he can run and play. Gunther does have allergies and is currently on Apoquel year-round, but is in good health otherwise. He is a great dog who needs an owner who is able to give him the time, attention and exercise he needs.

Awe sweet Daisy was saved from the shelter after she was too shy and fearful to be placed on the adoption floor. This gal is only 9 months old and has spent the majority of her short life in the shelter so will need a patient family who will give her time to trust and come out of shell. She's doing a remarkable job so far and she is seriously just the sweetest, most gentle little girl. Cats unknown. Has done well with a small child.

Dutch Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults

Hudson will make a great dog for someone. He needs to be in a home with lots of room for him to run, ideally with someone who will play fetch, go on runs with him or take him swimming- anything to keep his mind busy and his body active! He has been known to think he's a lap dog and would love nothing more than to cuddle with his owner on a couch, though he doesn't get that luxury in his current home and he accepts those rules just fine and is content to lie on his bed. Personality: Very High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Brandi is a beautiful loving female American Pitbull. We rescued her nearly a year ago hoping that she would fit in with our other dogs. At first Brandi was ok, but over the last 4 months or so, it seems that Brandi cannot be living in a multi dog family. Although its not all the time, she has attacked our other two older dogs and caused wounds to them. Brandi would be fabulous in an only dog situation. She loves cuddles, loves to run with you and loves to be around her humans. Brandi cannot be crated at all as she has issues after being crated 24/7 by her previous owner. It breaks my heart to have to find her a new home, but I have to ... (Read More)protect my other dogs too. Do you have a space in your heart for this gorgeous girl? (Less)

My sister and brother-in-laws are unable to care for a senior (over age 10) female lab due to their age and health. I am told the lab is a pure breed, yellow lab, of between 10-13 years old. A very sweet dog needs a farm or home for companionship. If I cannot find the dog a home my in-laws will euthanize her in September before winter sets in because last year they fell on the ice while trying to care for the dog. They live in Benson, MN. I am willing to cover vet costs to ensure dog receives a physical and vaccinations for adoption. No known health problems, just need someone to love me!

I am looking for help for 2 female dogs I have come to know. I received a call last week from my sister who said she had a friend reach out to her about the living conditions of 2 dogs staying in the house she was familiar with. The owner had abandoned these ladies and the people left there had just been served eviction notice and were not interested in bringing them with them. These people are active drug users and were comfortable with putting dogs in garbage bags and tossing out moving car or over bridge. She had convinced them to wait 24 hours before doing so and called everyone she knew. My sister was one of those people and she called ... (Read More)me frantic for advice or help. I immediately got ahold of these people and told them I would come get them. With no plan I got in my car from Burnsville and drove 5 hours to Iowa City to these dogs. When I walked in the house I was overwhelmed at the dirt, the garbage and the oblivious signs of drug using. They had put these 2 beautiful dogs in a small closet with no food or water. The moment I opened the door they wagged their tails and were so excited to see me. They hopped in my car and we drove off with some vague information about them. Mom 5 used to breed pups that were taken away always immed. and never told what for. Daughter 2 used as well once for breeding pups. Both intact, no vaccines. Owner walked out with male dog a couple months ago never leaving any info on what to do with the girls just that he didn't care and wasn't coming back for them. Girls have always been together, and are currently in heat. The entire drive home I called anyone I ever knew trying to find help. I was able to find temp housing for them together. They spent the car ride licking and loving on each other but at the house of my coworker who took them in they growled at each other a couple times and I thought it would be best to separate them in case. I don't know if it is the heat hormones or the trauma of what they've been through. I am working with Jill from Pause from Paws trying desperately to find them fosters and have yet to do so. They are gentle, loving and quite chill. No training so walking them on a leash requires some strength and they def need to be spayed and get some training. Do you know or are you able to provide any help for them? Good with cats, not sure of their background so I haven't brought around other dogs, good with older children but I've never brought them around younger kids. I would totally take them but I live in a townhouse that bans their breed. I have reached out to all pit rescues here in MN and am not getting a lot of help or they are full. Thanks and God bless, Tara (Less)

Alaskan Malamute    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Male Dogs Only, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Juno is a loving girl. She loves spending time with people. She's my girl. But our move to the country has been delayed, and the city is too much for her; getting out of fence(I built, so makes sense), chasing rabbits and such. She's been overall good, but has had some issues around the water dish with other dogs. She's been a little snotty at times when other dogs are around food that she thinks is hers, which is most food. But loves being with her pack(my wife and I). But wants to get out sometimes if not run(although we run her daily- I think the rabbit situation where we live is too much for her). Doesn't chew things, but willl find food ... Animal ID: 1636Gypsy (female)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Gypsy is a sweet but timid little rat terrier mix who is estimated to be about 7 years old. She was finally captured as a stray after being on the run for almost a month. Sadly, she was wearing a collar all along so she had a home, but no one claimed her. Once she was surrendered to our humane society it was discovered she was quite a nice little girl, just scared. She adapted beautifully in her new foster home almost immediately. Gypsy will definitely need a family who will keep her on a leash when outdoors or who has a fenced yard or nearby dog park to keep her safe. She is housebroken and will only be adopted as an indoor companion ... (Read More)dog. Gypsy tested positive for Lyme disease and is currently being treated for it. Gypsy has been spayed, dewormed, tested negative for heartworm and is up to date on all her shots. (Less)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adult Women Only
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Cuddly 6 1/2 year old Chihuahua/Papillon Mix. Chloe is a sweet girl but very protective of her 'person'. She would do best in a home with an adult female. We have children aged 10 and 12 and she is fine with them but smaller children and friends may get nipped. She has been known to run after people she feels are a threat and nip at their heels. Chloe needs a controlled environment as she is inconsistent in her potty habits. With a controlled environment and consistent training, I believe she is potty-pad trainable. We have been unable to provide the consistency due to children and another dog in the house. She is also afraid of our ... (Read More)other dog. Chloe will keep you warm at night as she loves to sleep under the covers with her person. She is very affectionate and will bond best with an adult female. She loves to go for car rides, tummy scratches, cuddling, and running in circles in the yard. She does not like to walk on a leash but she'll follow along if it's a short walk. I hope to find Chloe a loving home since she is a very sweet lady and has lots of love to give. (Less)

This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only.  Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. This is a very sweet dog who needs a new home. His owner was moved into a care facility and family is unable to keep him. He is currently boarded at a Kennel (for the last 6 months), but needs a true home. He deserves it. He has lived with other dogs and children. He has not spent much time around cats. It would be ideal to be able to be with someone who would be willing to let him visit his original owner from time to time as he is very loved.

aisy was a stray found in St Paul, and brought to the St Paul AHS . She was actually a dog known to the AHS community outreach person. Daisy had a microchip, but sadly was not reclaimed by her family. She was living with children, no cats, and she does seem very excited by the sight of small animals, but her attention can be redirected . She is particularly easy to walk when using a Gentle Leader, and is becoming a much calmer dog than when we first got her. She's very responsive to the training sessions at Happy Tails on Monday nights and is currently successful in her day care play groups. She's going to be the love of someone's life soon, ... PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Minnesota
Dogs can make good pets in Minnesota if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia Low-Cost Minnesota Spay & Neuter Clinics
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.) The dog was the earliest domesticated animal. Dogs can hear much lower frequencies than humans, over twice as high as humans, and about four times as far as humans.
