Rescue Me ID: 18-06-20-00570Lily (female)

Lab    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis, Hip Dysplasia

We have had her since she was 8weeks old. She is 7years old and was diagnosied with arthritis in her elbow at a one year old, she had two successful surgeries that really helped her and her pain is gone. She also has hip dyspalsia that we manage with a daily anti inflammatory. She is such a Sweet girl and very loyal but I now have grandkids that climb on her back and she has snapped and nipped most recently at a one year old. My granddaughter climbed on her back while she was sleeping and she grazed her teeth across her head. Did not draw blood but I have several more grandkids on the way and can not be worried about her snapping at ... (Read More)them. We have a younger lab also that is very tolerant of kids but I think because she has had pain so she is more nervous. She is well behaved, follows all commands and has been trained in obedience. She is mellow and doesn't need a lot of exercise though she loves to go on walks and run in open fields. I watch my grandkids quite often during the day and I can't trust her with toddlers so I have to find a good home for her soon. My husband wants to euthanize her if we can't find a home for her. Rescue Me ID: 18-06-18-00070Chett (male)

Bichon Frise Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Chett is a very lovable 10 month old dog, he is NOT good with children. I have a 9 year old daughter and he loves her sooo much but he is NOT good with her friends. When he is at home he is very territorial but out on walks or puppy class he is very quiet. We love him so much but I do not trust him around my daughters little friends. He does not shed and learns tasks very fast. He can sit and take treats nice and lays down. Like I said very loving to the people he sees daily.

Bulldog    Age: Puppy

Buddha is an Oldie English Bulldog, 1.5 years old. He is an awesome dog. house trained and love people and kids, get along with most female dogs, not the dog park type. Surgery will not help. he walks fine but must be on food with high glucosamine and not allowed to run around all day. We have other young dogs that he loves to run and play with so he can never really heal. he needs a home with a fenced in yard with a family or another female dog. This is our baby ... Rescue Me ID: 18-06-06-00243Oliver (male)

Yorkie Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Oliver is mixed breed Yorkie but I was told he was just a Yorkie. I bought him when he was 4 months old. He is about 6 lbs. & will be 7 yr. in July. He is very engaging. Follows me around and almost always lets me go first. When a get a box of anything he is always interested in what is in it. He understands a lot of words and looks at me when I am talking to him. He sometimes tries to talk when he wants something. He will pick up things for me if he can like a pen or a piece of paper and expects a treat for his efforts. He has little dog syndrome meaning aggressive towards other dogs (except his brother) no matter what size the dog is. It's ... (Read More)very hard to get him to eat. He was very scrawny when he first came to live with me and getting him to eat when I need him to has been challenging. He waits for his brother to start eating first but even then he may still not eat right away. He has a collapsing trachea (windpipe) so is not a dog you can walk on a leash. I have tried every harness out there but he pulls so hard the pressure of the harness makes him cough. He loves to run along the fence in my backyard & bark at everything & chase the rabbits. Would need a home with vertical fencing as he will climb something like a chain link fence. He's an escape artist. He has throat spams at times which cause him to panic. It's like when a person swallows the wrong way and is choking. You need to remain calm and just wrap him up in a blanket and pat him like a baby. He usually burps when he is okay and gets back to whatever he was doing. He sleeps with me in my bed so won't want to be kenneled at night. He snores when sound asleep. Potty trained for the most part. He paces back and forth by the door when he wants out. I confine him to my kitchen with newspaper on the floor if I can't take him with me. He loves to ride in the car. I have a soft kennel that he willing goes in. I put it on the front seat next to me with the door open. He's quiet in the car as long as he doesn't know where he is going so I try not to mention haircut or doctor. He eats Biljac for sensitive stomachs, small milkbones, training size pupperoni. I also have snack bags of rice & hamburger (mixed together)frozen. Food will go with pending. He has sweaters, Tshirts, toys, etc. that will go with him. I have started him on Heartworm preventative medicine and that will go with him. He prefers a lap versus being carried around. He gets scared when carried unless wrapped up in a blanket and able to look over your shoulder. Not sure why he gets scared. LOVES TO BE MASSAGED, and combed. He's likes to snuggle and be loved. I have a terminal illness so that is why I am trying to find a new home for him ASAP. I will email you a picture (s) if interested. You will need to pick him up from my home as I am unable to bring him to you. It's very heartbreaking for me to have to give him up so I will be very emotional about it. (Less)

Yorkie    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Obese, Fearful/Anxious

Billy will be 6 this July. He's sweet but fearful of people he doesn't know. Has never bit anyone. He weighs about 8 lb. but should be closer to 7 lb. He has a voracious appetite & will over eat so I feed him a couple times a day versus just once. He loves to go for walks but due to my health issues I no longer can do so. I have a fenced in yard and he loves running along it barking at everything. He will come when called if he wants to but can be very defiant if he wants to stay outside. Usually if I say breakfast and or supper he will come when called. He has a brother from a different mother. They play and fight together. I don't know ... (Read More)how he would be with a dog other than his brother. He sleeps with me at night so wouldn't like to be put in a kennel for the night. He understands the word potty and is pretty good about going to the door when he has to go or if I ask him if he has to go. If I need to leave the house and can't take him with I confine him to my kitchen and put down newspaper which he will go on if he has to. When I take him and his brother out to the VET, Groomer, or errands they go into a small soft kennel and I put them on the front seat next to me. He knows the word kennel and go for a ride and will race his brother trying to get into the kennel first. He is quiet in the car as long as you leave the door to the kennel open. He is very possessive of the dog toys and thinks all of them are his and gets upset if his brother has one. I feed him Biljac for sensitive stomachs, the tiny milkbones, and pupperoni for treats and can provide the initial food pending. He has sweaters and t-shirts that can go with him. He also is on Heartworm preventative that can go with him. He likes to be brushed, massaged and to cuddle. It's very heartbreaking for me to find a new home for him but I have a terminal condition and it's getting harder for me to take care of him and his brother. Rescue Me ID: 18-05-20-00245Billy and Oliver (male)

Yorkie Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Obese, Fearful/Anxious

Billy is one of a bonded pair of dogs that I have had since he was 4 months old. He is a Yorkie and will be 6 yrs. old in July. He has always been a bit skittish and fearful of strangers so it would be nice he and his brother Oliver could be adopted together and not split up. He is not the dominant one of the two. He will however engage with Oliver if he wants something that Oliver has which can be a toy or a rawhide chew bone. Billy thinks EVERYTHING belongs to him even if I give them each the same thing he wants Oliver's bone or toy also. They play fight together but sometimes they get a little rough with each other and I have to break it ... (Read More)up. They are currently on my bed calmly looking out a window for something to bark at and will get nuts when they see another dog(s) outside. They will start barking and race into the living, jump up on the sofa and continuing barking until the dog(s) are out of their site. The neighbor kids make them crazy also particularly when they are playing outside in front of my house or just going by it. I have a fenced in back yard and they love to be out running back and forth barking at anything and everything. I live on a corner across from a city park so a lot of activity going on. I monitor their time out (usually about 10 minutes) particularly when it is warm out as they don't have sense enough to come back in the house without me making them do so. Willy is very stubborn and rarely wants to come in without me yelling his name or doing hand jesters. He will just look at me. Oliver is a little better pending a dog is not going by the fence. They are for the most part potty trained to go outside. Oliver will pace back and forth by the back door and Willy comes to get me and responds to the question do you have to go potty and races for the kitchen and stands/sits/lays down by the back door. Neither of them can be trusted to not potty in the house if you leave them alone. I set up a child's gate to block off the kitchen from the rest of the house. I put down newspaper for them to go on. However, Willy sometimes lifts his leg and misses the paper. It's hard to explain. Willy was lifting his leg when I bought him and the breeder did not start any potty training with him. She said she let her other dogs do the training. Willy also has a very voracious appetite and has to be monitored when eating. I've never had a dog who is never full after he eats. Not sure if it was because there were so many other dogs in the house where I got him. He should weigh around 7 lbs. but he is way over that. I used be able to walk him and Oliver but I haven't been able to for several years. Oliver is a Yorkie mix breed of what I don't know. His eyes bug out and he has long skinny legs. The front legs are shorter in the front and longer in the back. He will be 7 years old in July and is about 6 lbs. He is VERY pokey when it comes to eating. He was 4 months old when I got him and scrawny. He waits for Willy to start eating before he will eat and even then it's like pulling teeth. It can be a long drawn out process so requires ALOT of patience. I can't just set their food down for them to eat because if Oliver doesn't eat right away and I am not paying attention Willy will eat Oliver's food. Both dogs have sensitive stomachs and will throw up a foamy yellow substance if their stomachs get too empty. Oliver is the worst but both will eat shortly after they barf. Twice a day I feed them BilJac for sensitive stomachs. It's a dry food and I order it through Petsmarts Website because the Petsmart that is closet to me doesn't carry the small bags. They have both had a lot of teeth removed but it is easy for them to chew the BilJac. I tried them on prescription canned food but it was too rich. It gave them diarrhea and made them barf. I also boil hamburger and mix it together with white rice. Then I put the mixture of the two in snack bags and freeze them. They usually get that for breakfast and or when they are sick. The first Biljac feeding is late afternoon and the second late evening. They like cooked peas and egg white. If I'm having porkloin or chicken for supper I will mix a little in with the Biljac. Oliver eats a little faster with a little meat mixed in. I started them on their heartworm medication but of course it upsets their stomachs. It's best to cut it into pieces and give it to them after they have had the first meal of Biljac. They will still barf within a couple of date after eating it but that's just the way it is. Oliver has a collapsing windpipe so can easily aspirate for what ever reason. It like when a person swallows the wrong way and you are choking and gasping for air. You just need to wrap him up with a blanket and or pat him on his back and carry him around until stops. He usually lets out a burp and he's okay. It just causes him to panic like a person would. I am a retired Nurse so I have learned not to over react with him and stay calm. More to say but out of room. (Less)

Mountain Cur Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Solo is a two year old Mountain Cur and Plott hound(?) mix, we think. He was rescued as a 6 month old stray from Alabama by my roommate, who is now deploying to Kuwait for the national guard. He's recently had issues with my roommates small nephews, showing some aggression towards them. He's also become leash aggressive, and we don't feel comfortable taking him on walks or to the dog park. He's extremely high energy, and doesn't get nearly enough exercise. He loves treeing squirrels and rooting out chipmunks from the woodpile. He would make an excellent hunting or agility dog, with the proper training. He's extremely athletic and can easily ... (Read More)jump 4 feet into the air. He's constantly seeking attention and loves to snuggle on the couch, when he finally tires. He's very food motivated, and will do anything for a treat. Solo needs a large plot of land and other dogs to play with while not on a leash, which we don't have. If we can't find someone to take him before my roommate is deployed, she may give him to the shelter which will probably euthanize him. Please help if you can- thanks! (Less)

Snickers is a very smart (sometimes feisty) little guy who just wants to be loved & snuggled (esp on a couch or bed)! He would do best as the only pet with someone home most of the time as he can have some separation anxiety if left alone. He LOVES people of all ages. He now lives in a home with adults, kids as young as 2, & another larger male dog, though he does try to be the Alpha male (food/treats need to be given separately). He does tricks & likes to play tug-o-war & would be great at an obstacle course! He responds well to a remote control training collar, but needs someone with time & patience to work & play with him. We've enjoyed ... (Read More)his fun personality, but he needs a place where people are home more & where he has space to run, preferably a large, fenced yard or invisible fencing. If left unattended, he will run & can be aggressive if he encounters another animal. I hope you will enjoy Snicky as much as we have! (Less)

Bulldog    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Riley is a four year old Olde English Bulldog. She is brindle in color, dominant, and would need to go to a home without other animals as she is dog/cat aggressive. She knows how to sit, lay down, is kennel trained, house trained, and loves to go for walks/hiking. Due to a recent change in my living arrangement she is now with other animals and not doing well as she is aggressive towards them. She loves people and does well with them. She has good energy and at times will jump up but a firm 'no' will stop that. She has been around kids and has done well but due to her size (85lbs) she could easily knock over smaller children. A fenced in ... (Read More)yard would be good for her as well as she likes to run around and play fetch in the backyard. Please contact with any questions. I would like to have her meet the person looking to adopt her before it happens to make sure she would be a good fit for your family. She will come with her food, dog bed, and treats. Thanks! PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Minnesota
Dogs can make good pets in Minnesota if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
