Animal ID: 1636Gypsy (female)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Gypsy is a sweet but timid little rat terrier mix who is estimated to be about 7 years old. She was finally captured as a stray after being on the run for almost a month. Sadly, she was wearing a collar all along so she had a home, but no one claimed her. Once she was surrendered to our humane society it was discovered she was quite a nice little girl, just scared. She adapted beautifully in her new foster home almost immediately. Gypsy will definitely need a family who will keep her on a leash when outdoors or who has a fenced yard or nearby dog park to keep her safe. She is housebroken and will only be adopted as an indoor companion ... (Read More)dog. Gypsy tested positive for Lyme disease and is currently being treated for it. Gypsy has been spayed, dewormed, tested negative for heartworm and is up to date on all her shots. (Less)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adult Women Only
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Cuddly 6 1/2 year old Chihuahua/Papillon Mix. Chloe is a sweet girl but very protective of her 'person'. She would do best in a home with an adult female. We have children aged 10 and 12 and she is fine with them but smaller children and friends may get nipped. She has been known to run after people she feels are a threat and nip at their heels. Chloe needs a controlled environment as she is inconsistent in her potty habits. With a controlled environment and consistent training, I believe she is potty-pad trainable. We have been unable to provide the consistency due to children and another dog in the house. She is also afraid of our ... (Read More)other dog. Chloe will keep you warm at night as she loves to sleep under the covers with her person. She is very affectionate and will bond best with an adult female. She loves to go for car rides, tummy scratches, cuddling, and running in circles in the yard. She does not like to walk on a leash but she'll follow along if it's a short walk. I hope to find Chloe a loving home since she is a very sweet lady and has lots of love to give. (Less)

Animal ID: 1617Spot (male)

German Shorthaired Pointer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Spot is a handsome boy who came to us as an owner surrender. He spent most of his 5 years in a kennel and is learning the joys of running and companionship in his foster home. Spot is cordial to the other dogs but not really playful. He loves to run, but we don't know his hunting abilities. Spot has spent most of his life outdoors but would quickly learn how to be an indoor family pet.

German Shorthaired Pointer Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Akyra (prounced Akeera) is a lovely German shorthair/lab mix (from our best guess). She was an owner surrender. Her family felt she was a bit too energetic for them and wanted her to be placed in a home where she could get proper exercise and love. Akyra is affectionate and playful, but sometimes may be a bit too rough, especially with smaller dogs. We do not know her hunting abilities. Any family wanting to adopt Akyra would have to bring their existing dogs along to be sure they will be compatible. We would like to see her adopted as an indoor family pet.

American Eskimo Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Thor is an adorable combination of American eskimo, husky and Chihuahua! He is a small dog, full of energy and very loving. Due to a history of abuse in his past (he was an owner surrender) he will react badly when restrained, so trips to the vet will be challenging. Thor did a beautiful job learning to play with other dogs at our local dog park. He is working hard on housebreaking, and we would like to see him adopted as an indoor family pet. Due to the nature of his breed combination and his past, we do not feel he would be good in a home with small children. He would benefit from a large fenced yard to keep him safe and properly ... Rescue Me ID: 16-06-11-00177Rocky (male)

Rottweiler Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

Rocky is 5 years old and 83 lbs. He absolutely loves his people. He seeks out touch and will ask you to pet him by putting his head in your lap, or nuzzling your hand. After he knows you well, he likes to give kisses! He is housetrained, and never destroys your belongings. He walks well on a leash, unless he sees another dog (then he will pull all the way home). He has a history of aggression with other dogs, and needs to be the only pet in the house. He also has a very high prey drive towards cats, and shouldn't be allowed to interact with small children. More about his aggression: Rocky is very anxious about other dogs; this is what ... (Read More)drives his aggression towards them. Someone who has experience with reactive dogs, or is willing to learn about reactivity, would be an ideal owner for Rocky. I have taken him to two six-week sessions of 'reactive rehab' dog training classes using clicker training and positive reinforcement, and he has improved greatly. Whereas he used to sprint towards the window and bark like crazy if there was another dog outside, he now is much more calm and doesn't feel the need to guard the windows like he used to. A nightly 8-minute 'relaxation protocol' has made him a much calmer dog as well. If other dogs are nowhere to be found, Rocky is a very laid-back guy. He loves following you from room to room so he can lie down by your feet. He doesn't care about fetch at all, but loves his flirt pole, and likes to play chase. He loves going on a walk or a run with you. 'Outside' is probably his favorite word. Medical notes: Rocky hates getting his nails clipped and needs to wear a muzzle when getting a trim. Most of his front teeth are broken and will need attention sooner than later. If he is on lower quality kibble, he becomes prone to dandruff and ear infections. He is fixed, heartworm-free, and up-to-date on his vaccinations. Good manners: Rocky will NOT break into your garbage, chew up your things, bark at you (he prefers to make a yawning noise if he wants to talk to you), dig up your yard, steal your food, or jump up on guests! He knows sit, lay down, leave it, and come. He will be an amazing, loving pet for someone who wants to spoil him with attention and belly rubs. (Less)

German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I'm a 5 1/2 yr old Female, White German Shepherd. I'm looking for a loving home with a Large Fenced yard so i can stretch my legs. I am spayed and up to date with my shots and in good health. I dislike loud noises like Thunder, Gunshot and fireworks. It scares me! I seem gentle and timid at first meeting new people, but I like the attention. I need to be convinced to take a bath but once you are rubbing soap all over me I like it just fine. I really need a fenced yard to go out to play in, or I might wander off if you quit paying attention to me. Yea I will come back, because you feed me and take care of me and Love me. I ... (Read More)can get a bit excited if it is time to go for a walk and yea I may pull a little but soon we will be just crusing along. I am not good with other animals most of the time, but not always. I have a kitty brother that eats in the bowl with me sometimes. With a great loving home I'm a great loving dog. I enjoy hanging in the house and out of the heat. but I'm ready to go for a ride. I don't normally bark much but I will let you know if someone shows up either animal or people. I'm a 115#s of muscle and yea there is a little fat too. I can be real good most of the time but some dogs just make my hair stand up a little. Maybe I'm a loner. ExtraPoints if you are retired and have lots of time to hang around together. I live in a house and Need a good home with a FENCE, I cannot be chained up it does not match my PERSONALITY, Thanks very much. I may be leary of a new owner, but bribe me with lots of love and a few treats and you will have me eating out of your hand in no time. My mom and dad will do the talking for me to help me find my new best friend. Serious inquiry only please. Thanks, Delila (Less)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Lilly. She is an almost 6 year old Chihuahua Mix (probably terrier.) Lilly is a spayed female. She weighs approximately 20 pounds and is up to date on her shots. Her Rabies is good until 7/10/18. I rescued Lilly and her brother when they were 4 months old. There have been a ton of changes in my home the in the past 8 months and Lilly is not adjusting well. The majority of the day there are no longer humans at home and I can see quite clearly that this gal needs more than that in her life. She has become a bit submissive, sad, and withdrawn and it breaks my heart to see her this way! Lilly would do best in an adult only home with no small ... (Read More)children and no other animals. She loves car rides and going for walks! She has been raised in a home with other dogs and a cat who she no longer has patience for. She is used to doggie doors and a fenced in yard where she can come and go as she pleases. She is not one to be let outside leash free as she will wander off. She hates the feel of wet grass on her feet and prefers to not go outside in the rain. She does however, love the snow. I am looking for a loving, forever home for this girl. If you desire a snuggly, small, lap dog that you want to dote over and lavish your attention on, this girl may just be your girl. (Less)

Great family pet! We have a childcare and he loves kids. Cats not so much...his hunt drive is very high. He has not been trained to hunt birds, but was worked with when young on chuckers. He wants to work. We give him plenty of love, but not enough of the work. He can clear our fence. 5' is no problem to jump. We live on a busy road. He is always on alert. We have had to tie him up and he hates it. He will do it, but barks for your company. Crate trained. We are trying to re-home him for his benefit, no ours. We have kept him so, long because we have been trying to make it work. He is an Epanual Bretton, AKC certified as a brittnay.

Finn is a wonderful dog that is in his kennel too much. A person living at his home is not a 'dog' person and therefore does not give Finn the love and attention he deserves. Finn is a loving dog that will do anything to make his owner happy. In the interest of full disclosure, Finn has allergies and must take Benadryl daily. He also has a very sensitive stomach, if he eats anything besides his food he will get the runs. It is killing me to give Finn up for adoption but he deserves to be in a home where he is part of the family and not in his kennel all the time.

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My 4 year old German Shepherd Roary is a beautiful female Czech line working GSD. She is spayed and up to date on shots. She is the most loyal, protective, loving, sweetheart of a dog that I have ever met. Being a working line GSD, she needs constant companionship and attention. I enrolled her in a 2 month training/boarding facility last fall where she received 3 training sessions a day with a professional dog handler. At the boarding facility, she was known as 'mother goose' as she got along well with all the other dogs and was used to keep them in line. She is feisty, as working lines are known to be, but she did not show any signs of ... (Read More)serious aggression to the other dogs. It is just something going on between her and the other dogs in our home, they just do not get along anymore. Roary needs a home where she will have human companionship for the majority of the day. She does well with men who have a lot of energy and ambition. She is very good at fetch and can play for hours. She is extremely eager to please and is always waiting for the next command. (Less)

Meet Rusty...Rusty and I met at Heartland Animal Rescue in Hutchinson in December. He stole my heart. Having had a rough life with much neglect and being fearful of an abusive male owner, he has learned during the past three months to build a bond and once again, begin to trust. He has a willing spirit to learn and loves much. I feel Rusty needs added to his life another dog to share his life with. He is very much wishing walks and being outdoors, socializing and just being himself. Rusty is a very loving animal and he needs the companionship of possibly a woman owner, as he has learned to bond with me. He has trust issues with ... (Read More)males which is quite understandable. He is nonaggressive, but is discovering he does not need to cower any longer. He will be loved and I have made that promise to him. What I need from his potential new adoptive mother, is a warm, loving home. Physically, I have had medical issues arise that are needing attention and he is needing more physical activity than I am able to give. Please, if you think Rusty and you are a good match, contact me. We would both like to meet you and see if there is a fit. (Less)

aisy was a stray found in St Paul, and brought to the St Paul AHS . She was actually a dog known to the AHS community outreach person. Daisy had a microchip, but sadly was not reclaimed by her family. She was living with children, no cats, and she does seem very excited by the sight of small animals, but her attention can be redirected . She is particularly easy to walk when using a Gentle Leader, and is becoming a much calmer dog than when we first got her. She's very responsive to the training sessions at Happy Tails on Monday nights and is currently successful in her day care play groups. She's going to be the love of someone's life soon, ...     Hi! My name is Oscar and I'm approximately 12 years old. I am a 10 pound, cream colored male Peke looking for my furever home. I was in rough shape when I was abandoned on a country road in rural Iowa.... I am safe now and have fully recovered from my ordeal. I am truly a lovable and good looking guy! Oscar had some chronic skin issues that we worked on treating with our vet, as well as having his teeth cleaned. This boy is blind and deaf, but he really does tell you when he has to go outside, or is hungry or thirsty! An easy guy to live with! As long as his has some snuggle time and a soft bed to lounge in he's good! His blood-work ... PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Minnesota
Dogs can make good pets in Minnesota if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
