Animal ID: 1547Higgins (male)

Saint Bernard Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Higgins is a gorgeous combination of St. Bernard and cocker spaniel. He is an owner surrender, as his owner had no ideal how big Higgins would get! The breeder presented the puppy as a 'knee high' or miniature St. Bernard, but at only 7 months old he is already getting to be quite a large pup and too strong for an owner with some health issues to handle. Higgins has obviously been raised in a loving home and will only be adopted as an indoor family dog. He will need lots of exercise and play time, so a large fenced yard would be a plus, or a nearby dog park to let him romp and socialize with other dogs. Higgins is friendly and sweet, ... (Read More)although may appear a bit shy at first. He has a fascinating, adorable face, with one eye with the droop of a St. Bernard and one eye more with the appearance of the cocker spaniel in his breeding. (Less)

Schnauzer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Ben is a very nice little guy, he just in not nice around puppies. He does not like puppies for some reason. He plays well with all others. He loves to play Frisbee and ball, absolutely loves it!!! He is a lapdog if you let him and he loves to sleep with you if you let him also. I sometimes shelter puppies and as I said he just does not put up with them and he will bite them, and draw blood at times. I do love this little guy but I can't have him hurting little ones anymore. I have 6 other dogs and he gets along with those just fine. He is part Schnauzer and Boston Terrier. He weighs about 29#. His birthday is Oct. 21, 2011. He is brindle ... (Read More)in color. Cairn    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

Buford is a very socialized family dog who loves to be around both children and adults. He just celebrated his 7th birthday. Very mild mannered and laid back. Buford is Kennel and littered trained. He loves treats, that would answer to the few extra pounds around the belly. He is now getting up there in years, so he is not as active as he use to be, but he loves to fetch balls and run across the lawn occasionally. Very comfortable with the groomers and the doctors. Getting out for walks is great, but he starts out fast but slows down as the distance increases. It takes a while to increase the distance, now with the joint pain. ... (Read More)Most recent years Buford's health and behavioral issues have increased. Our work schedules have changed, which limits our availability to address Buford's health and behavioral issues. Buford needs a family available to attend to his fragile health and behavioral needs. Currently Buford has allergies which have resulted in constant ear infections and skin irritation. Prescription shampoo is required for grooming. Both issues can cause and unfavorable scent. Occasionally Buford suffers from joint pain, assuming arthritis. His behavioral issues of marking has caused a need to separated him from social areas of the home and other family members homes with pets. I hope there is a family who is willing to adpot Buford and has the time and patience to provide Buford with the quality of life he grown accustome to and deserves. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-08-18-00405Argo (male)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Deaf

We adopted an Australian Cattle Dog from the Humane Society and named him Argo. He's a little over 3 years old and around 35 pounds. He's incredibly sweet and very well-mannered and is up to date on all his vaccinations. He's also energetic and we take him on daily walks/runs, but is always up for more if his owners want to play. Argo is house broken and has never chewed up any furniture or shown aggression towards anyone. The issue we're struggling with and have come to realize we aren't adequately equipped to handle both from a time commitment and expertise point of view is that he's deaf. When we adopted him, no one at the Humane ... (Read More)Society told us he was deaf and/or didn't know from when his past owners surrendered him. Over the first two weeks of having him we slowly came to realize that he wasn't responding to any sound we were making and realized his disability. Although we absolutely love Argo and want nothing more than to keep him, we just can't handle the responsibility of providing him the proper training and commitment he deserves with his needs. We feel terrible about giving him back to the Humane Society and would rather find him a home through a more direct route. We were hoping to try and find some other group to give Argo to that would specialize in this type of adoption and that's where RescueMe came into play. We really want Argo to find the right home and companions if we can't be them. (Less)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Senior

This beautiful rat terrier is at the Tri-County Humane Society in St. Cloud, MN. This is not a no-kill shelter. He was found as a stray nearly a month ago, so true age and other things are unknown. I have my limit of rat terriers so cannot adopt him. I am concerned as his stated age is 10 which is likely a deterrent to many people that do not realize the long life span of a rat terrier. I am trying to help him find a good home.

I rescued a German / lab mix puppy named Genghis from an abusive home about 9 years ago. He's always been a challenge, and very strong willed and strong physically, but I lived in a small town, so it was ok. But on our leashed walks over the years, many off-leash dogs have attacked him. Since I've moved to the city, he has grown increasingly paranoid. He views all other dogs as enemies. He fights other dogs on sight. A work man came to my rental unannounced last spring, and Genghis bit him. It wasn't his fault, there was a variety of human error at play though (I was on vacation, no notice from rental company, and he got away from my ... (Read More)dog sitter). He was just doing his job as a protector of my home, but because of this, none of the adoption services will take him for adoption, only for destruction. Now I'm moving to a smaller place in a dog heavy neighborhood, and he's too strong and dangerous for me to take with me. He's a very sweet boy in the house, but a terror outside. I think a strong male presence in his life, someone calm who will be the alpha Genghis needs could be great. He needs a home outside the city with room to run. Please help me! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-05-25-00463Brooklyn (female)

Pointer    Age: Puppy

For English Pointers: GPPR will adopt within the Midwestern States where we have volunteers located. Please be sure to ask if your state is included. Hi Everyone, I'm Brooklyn. I was a stray down in Alabama, spent a few months in a shelter, and am now getting my second chance with GPPR. I'm a pointer/lab mix and, as you can see, I'm up to my ears in all kinds of cute. And that's probably a good thing because I'm about a year old, possibly a little bit less, and I still haven't figured out the difference between my chew toys and your favorite pair of shoes. I don't know my name yet, I don't have any obedience training, I snore like a ... (Read More)lumberjack, and I'm still iffy on my potty training. But that's ok because I'm on the fast track to learning lots of new things now that I'm with GPPR. And I'm stinkin' cute. I ride in the car nicely and I also like sleeping in my crate. I point at neighborhood birds and I wouldn't mind eating some of the neighbor cats. I would do best in a home where I can be crated when my people are away because I am a (really cute) destroyer of all things. I do well with other dogs and am even learning the art of shared playtime. I'm also very good with children. I haven't had any accidents in the house but I'm still making extra trips outside until my potty training is firmed up. I'm a friendly, loving, and trusting girl. Watch for more updates as I start to show my true colors and as I learn new things. I still need to get one of those spade things at the vet so I'm not cleared for adoption yet but I will be available soon!! Brooklyn is being fostered in the Minneapolis area. (Less)

I was heartworm positive but have had treatment and am now heartworm negative! Yippee! I came to my foster mom with little to no training, but my foster mom has been working with me and I am making strides. PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Minnesota
Dogs can make good pets in Minnesota if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia Low-Cost Minnesota Spay & Neuter Clinics
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.) The dog was the earliest domesticated animal. Dogs can hear much lower frequencies than humans, over twice as high as humans, and about four times as far as humans.
