Pug Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

****The website is updated several times daily. Please do not email to ask if there are still dogs/puppies available.**** PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! YOU WILL FIND THE ANSWER TO ALL BASIC QUESTIONS BELOW. Please read carefully Before emailing. *Tuffy is a 5 month old mixed breed puppy. His mom was a 12 pound Doxie, and dad is presumed to be a pug. Tuffy currently weighs 8.5 pounds and he still has a little growing left to do. *Tuffy is a Special Needs puppy. He was born with multiple skeletal abnormalities of unknown origin. These abnormalities effect his hind legs and left front leg. Because of the way he was formed, Tuffy has a unique way ... (Read More)of walking as you can see in the video. His left front leg is generally not used to walk, more used for balance, scratching his ear, or booping other dogs. Tuffy is not in any pain and his condition is not neurological. *Tuffy is crate trained and he is learning house training. He will need a home that understands he may never be totally house trained. Winter may be hard for Tuffy due to his way of moving. He does use potty pads at times, so further training that way may work as well. *Tuffy loves other dogs and playing with dogs of all sizes. He will do well with doggie friends who are gentle and not going to see him as prey. Tuffy is not going to do well in homes with very young children. *Each pup is spayed or neutered and current on their vet cares. Tuffys x-rays will go home with him for his new vet. *We do not hold or reserve dogs. We do not ship or fly. Prospective families must come to NORTHFIELD MN to meet. We do not hold adoption events or meet in the Twin Cities* *Emails are answered in the order they are received. We are receiving a large number of emails, so answering promptly is our goal. If you are interested in adoption, your prompt responses are the best way to get through the adoption screening* *Paws First does not accept checks or credit cards.     Lindy, LuLu, Lu, Lu-nann, Nann is a wonderful loving dog. She loves children, people, dogs (small dogs are her fav) and playing fetch. She is great on the boat and loves fishing. Lindy has a sensitive tummy, so only her dog food can be served. No table scraps or treats or bones. Antlers is the only thing we found that doesn't upset her tummy. Our lifestyle has changed due to work. We don't have the time to give to her that she deserves. Lu turned 5 on June 28th. We are not asking for an adoption fee, we as that you donate to rescue me and love her forever!

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Description We got Amelia in rescue off of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation on 9/1. She showed up at a local home with a pack of other dogs looking for food scraps which the family did throw out. After all the scraps were gone, her pack proceeded to leave the family's yard but Amelia stayed behind begging to be loved and seeming to want to be a part of a family of her own. They called rescue immediately and said 'we have one here who is very deserving of rescue' and she was picked up right away. After a several hour transport and a week or so stay at the hospital for medical care, she was brought to us in MN. Upon walking into her foster ... (Read More)home for the very first time, her eyes lit up! She reminded me of a kid in a candy store. Shocked and amazed and beyond thrilled to be in a home of her own. We are still learning about Amelia but we know so far that she is very sweet, eager to please, listens well, rides awesome in the car, is a sensitive soul acting sad when corrected, likes to chase cats initially but means no harm, is now friends with the kitty in her foster home and is great with other dogs. She has recently completed treatment for mange and is doing very well with an all clear from future treatments from the sending vet. She still gets a little itchy from time to time which we are following up with a final once over from our local vet next week. She is young at 1yrs old and has typical husky, young girl energy. She is so sweet, definitely worthy of a meeting and most importantly, a forever family all her own! (Less)

Bella is the most loving and affectionate dog I've ever met. She loves kids, will play with even Teacup size dogs and not hurt them, and let's our cats literally walk on her. She is a very special dog. But she must have a place where she can run. We moved to town and have a fence but she just jumps over it. Foxhound Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Awe sweet Daisy was saved from the shelter after she was too shy and fearful to be placed on the adoption floor. She perked right up with the presence of another dog in her foster home and they immediately began playing. This gal is only 9 months old and has spent the majority of her short life in the shelter so will need a patient family who will give her time to trust and come out of shell which she began doing in her foster home in just a few days with each day getting better and better! She's doing a remarkable job so far and she is seriously just the sweetest, most gentle little girl. Cats unknown. Has done awesome with the small child ... She's happy, gaining confidence, is kennel and potty trained and would make a fantastic addition to a calmer household. (Less)

Brandi is a beautiful loving female American Pitbull. We rescued her nearly a year ago hoping that she would fit in with our other dogs. At first Brandi was ok, but over the last 4 months or so, it seems that Brandi cannot be living in a multi dog family. Although its not all the time, she has attacked our other two older dogs and caused wounds to them. Brandi would be fabulous in an only dog situation. She loves cuddles, loves to run with you and loves to be around her humans. Brandi cannot be crated at all as she has issues after being crated 24/7 by her previous owner. It breaks my heart to have to find her a new home, but I have to ... (Read More)protect my other dogs too. Do you have a space in your heart for this gorgeous girl? (Less)

I am looking for help for 2 female dogs I have come to know. I received a call last week from my sister who said she had a friend reach out to her about the living conditions of 2 dogs staying in the house she was familiar with. The owner had abandoned these ladies and the people left there had just been served eviction notice and were not interested in bringing them with them. These people are active drug users and were comfortable with putting dogs in garbage bags and tossing out moving car or over bridge. She had convinced them to wait 24 hours before doing so and called everyone she knew. My sister was one of those people and she called ... (Read More)me frantic for advice or help. I immediately got ahold of these people and told them I would come get them. With no plan I got in my car from Burnsville and drove 5 hours to Iowa City to these dogs. When I walked in the house I was overwhelmed at the dirt, the garbage and the oblivious signs of drug using. They had put these 2 beautiful dogs in a small closet with no food or water. The moment I opened the door they wagged their tails and were so excited to see me. They hopped in my car and we drove off with some vague information about them. Mom 5 used to breed pups that were taken away always immed. and never told what for. Daughter 2 used as well once for breeding pups. Both intact, no vaccines. Owner walked out with male dog a couple months ago never leaving any info on what to do with the girls just that he didn't care and wasn't coming back for them. Girls have always been together, and are currently in heat. The entire drive home I called anyone I ever knew trying to find help. I was able to find temp housing for them together. They spent the car ride licking and loving on each other but at the house of my coworker who took them in they growled at each other a couple times and I thought it would be best to separate them in case. I don't know if it is the heat hormones or the trauma of what they've been through. I am working with Jill from Pause from Paws trying desperately to find them fosters and have yet to do so. They are gentle, loving and quite chill. No training so walking them on a leash requires some strength and they def need to be spayed and get some training. Do you know or are you able to provide any help for them? Good with cats, not sure of their background so I haven't brought around other dogs, good with older children but I've never brought them around younger kids. I would totally take them but I live in a townhouse that bans their breed. I have reached out to all pit rescues here in MN and am not getting a lot of help or they are full. Thanks and God bless, Tara (Less)

Gypsy is a sweet but timid little rat terrier mix who is estimated to be about 7 years old. She was finally captured as a stray after being on the run for almost a month. Sadly, she was wearing a collar all along so she had a home, but no one claimed her. Once she was surrendered to our humane society it was discovered she was quite a nice little girl, just scared. She adapted beautifully in her new foster home almost immediately. Gypsy will definitely need a family who will keep her on a leash when outdoors or who has a fenced yard or nearby dog park to keep her safe. She is housebroken and will only be adopted as an indoor companion ... (Read More)dog. Gypsy tested positive for Lyme disease and is currently being treated for it.     Cuddly 6 1/2 year old Chihuahua/Papillon Mix. Chloe is a sweet girl but very protective of her 'person'. She would do best in a home with an adult female. We have children aged 10 and 12 and she is fine with them but smaller children and friends may get nipped. She has been known to run after people she feels are a threat and nip at their heels. Chloe needs a controlled environment as she is inconsistent in her potty habits. With a controlled environment and consistent training, I believe she is potty-pad trainable. We have been unable to provide the consistency due to children and another dog in the house. She is also afraid of our ... (Read More)other dog. Chloe will keep you warm at night as she loves to sleep under the covers with her person. She is very affectionate and will bond best with an adult female. She loves to go for car rides, tummy scratches, cuddling, and running in circles in the yard. She does not like to walk on a leash but she'll follow along if it's a short walk. I hope to find Chloe a loving home since she is a very sweet lady and has lots of love to give. (Less)

aisy was a stray found in St Paul, and brought to the St Paul AHS . She was actually a dog known to the AHS community outreach person. Daisy had a microchip, but sadly was not reclaimed by her family. She was living with children, no cats, and she does seem very excited by the sight of small animals, but her attention can be redirected . She is particularly easy to walk when using a Gentle Leader, and is becoming a much calmer dog than when we first got her. PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Minnesota
Dogs can make good pets in Minnesota if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia Low-Cost Minnesota Spay & Neuter Clinics
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.) The dog was the earliest domesticated animal. Dogs are red-green colorblind.
