This girl is Pepper, we were told she is a purebred Feist but I don't know much about the breed so I'm not sure! She is a climber, keeping her in the fence has been a struggle. It takes her a while to get used to other dogs so at first she is aggressive and will snap/bite at other dogs and cats. This sweet girl is Patches, she's had it pretty rough in the past. Her previous owners (before my family rescued her) beat and starved her. My family took her away from the abusive owners and have been getting her back on her feet and she's doing very well as you can see. Found this adorable beagle a couple of weeks ago. Tried to find his owners but he was not microchipped nor had a collar on. Took him to the vet to access his health status. Stool checked out clean (no worms) and he had no fleas or ticks and was a healthy weight. Gave him a dose of Frontline Plus and Heartguard to protect him from pests. Really wanted to keep this guy but I already have two dogs and this guy does not stay within the electric fence line. Would hate for him to get out and get hurt or lost again. She is up to date on all of her shots as of 2-26-13. She knows sit, stay, lay down, wait, off (furniture), up (stands up to give you a hug), and back up. All she wants is to be loved and please you! She is fully housebroken as well and we leave her out of the crate alone during our absence and she doesn't destroy anything. She does need a little work on leash training and a heart worm test then medication for that. We have her on Comfortis flea/tick tablet right now and she has none at all. From what I know, she was abused at some point in her life because she is timid at first interactions and cowers if you use too gruff of a voice when you command her or if you move your hands/body too quickly at her. My neighbor across the street, who has dementia, had Animal Control come and pick up her dog, Maddy, on 5/4/13. Neighbor claims that the dog's back legs weren't working and the dog was in pain. This is untrue - the neighbor's caregiver took the dog to the vet two weeks ago and the dog was found to be fine. Maddy chased one of my cats around the front yard two nights ago. This is a lively adult dog, looks like a Wheaten Terrier. She is very affectionate with the neighbor lady. She needs to get out of the house more, though. Even though there is a fenced back yard, the neighbor lady lets her out the front door, and there have been ... (Read More)problems with Maddy chasing runners. She's a good dog, though. We are feeling awful about this - we don't know why the neighbor did this. Animal Control says that Maddy will be kept until Monday morning, then will be evaluated by a vet. At that point, if she is considered unadoptable, she will be put down. I asked if I could come and get her Monday morning and was told that I would only be allowed to adopt her if she is labeled 'adoptable.' If they don't think she is adoptable, I won't be allowed to take her. Is this fair? I already have four cats and two dogs, and I don't think little Maddy will fit in well with my two big dogs, but I am going to try to get her so she's not euthanized. Then I will need to find a place for her. UPDATE: With the help of a rescue group, I have gotten Maddy out of Animal Control and am keeping her at my house. I need to find another home for her, though, because my cats are terrified of her. He has food aggression that includes his food, food that's dropped on the floor, something that had food on it, and food bowls. He is the sweetest most loving dog other wise. I went to reach down and pick the plastic up and Dallas bit me on the hand, then on the calf, the thigh, and then the back of my arm. He didn't break the skin I just have some bruises. Here we are now with a dog that will bite if provoked and a 4 year old son. I have contacted multiple trainers that say that the behavior is highly fixable but there are no guarantees that he won't act out ever again. That is why I list Dallas as no children. He is wonderful with my little boy but I cannot guarantee that my son won't make the same mistake I did and his face is at the same level as Dallas' mouth. He is such a good dog. He just needs a strong leader as an owner. If there is a man out there without kids that just wants the company of a dog and can handle the issues that Dallas has this is the dog for you. He knows sit, lay down, stay, wait, and we're working on leave it. For a Great Pyrenees he really is easy to train. He is also 100% potty trained. I have not had one accident in the house. He has free roam of the house during the day and does great. Apollo is super friendly, love kids and adults. He loves to fetch a ball and go for walks. Currently he is sharing a yard with an American Bulldog who is aggressive towards him for no reason. I would like to rehome him with a loving family that can give him the attention he needs and be the only pet so there will be no chance of him being bullied again. He would need to be rehouse trained since he has been an outdoor dog for 3yrs. He truly is an amazing dog and deserves better than I can give him. Jackson County Independence, MO MAP IT!
