Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Rylee! Rylee is an 18 month old Pit Bull mix who weighs around 55 pounds and comes to Revolution Rescue from a Kansas shelter where she was scheduled to be euthanized, as she was Heartworm positive. Her Heartworm treatments were completed at the end of December and she will be re-tested in June, but because of this, Rylee will have to be on monthly Heartworm preventative for the rest of her life. She is an absolute lover and although she can be shy at first, it doesn't take her long to let her true personality shine! Rylee is good with just about anyone and everything! In her foster home, she lives with another dog and cat and ... (Read More)does great with both. If you already have another dog in your home, she would do best with one who has a calming demeanor. Pit Bull    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We adopted Kami from a terrible home when she was only 5 weeks. When she was a year old she made a dominance bid when she was a year old to our older lab and won. Since then there has been a lot of tension in the home which is not good for our other dogs or for Kami. We love her playful attitude dearly but it isn't safe here for her or our other dogs. She takes a minute to warm up to a person but then is devoted to them. She sleeps in bed with us every night (right between my legs) she is such a blessing to us but I hope someone who doesn't have other dogs could open up their home to her!

Beagle    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

***ADOPTION PENDING** Marshall is a beautiful, 27 pound, red beagle of about 18 months to 2 years old. He has personality to spare, with a lot of puppy-like energy. Marshall is playful with people, other dogs, and cats. Marshall needs a home with patient, calm, experienced dog owners, and we think he would love a home with older children, because he can get rambunctious. Marshall has a good idea of house training, but still needs a bit of work with it. He is a climber/jumper, and should probably have a yard with a high fence. This pup loves to vocalize and will sing to you the song of his people when you come home, because he misses you. ... (Read More)Marshall wants to love you, and is a cuddle bum when he is tired. Beagle    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Sadie is a female beagle. She is approximately 8 years old and weighs about 17 pounds. Sadie was hit by a car in Feb. 2017. While she has recovered very well, she was left with some permanent changes. One of the vertebrae up high in her neck was broken and now her head always tilts slightly to the right. One of her eyes looks a little different than the other. Her walk looks a little different - but does not slow her down at all. She can't go up steps or jump up (like on furniture), but she can go down stairs (we haven't tried off furniture). Her foster home has a ramp to go outside and she uses it like a champ. But she doesn't ... (Read More)let any of it slow her down! Sadie is a total sweetheart! She is living in foster care with 2 other dogs and a cats ranging in age from 5 months to 15 years -- and she gets along very well with all of them. She is house and kennel trained - sometimes I have to put her in the kennel, but once she's in, she likes to curl up and sleep. She's working on walking nicely on a leash - which we're not sure if her reluctance isn't related to her neck injury. Sadie loves to play with toys. She loves to toss them in the air and chase them around. She loves outside! She will run all over the yard and lie on the deck in the sun. She also loves to be petted and to sit on your lap if she gets a chance. She hasn't met anyone she doesn't love. She is spayed, HW negative, current on vaccinations and micro chipped. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-14-00315Gary (male)

Beagle    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Bassett and Beagle Rescue of The Heartland is proud to present Gary-The Explorer. Gary is a 8 yr. old beagle through and through! Gary loves to go on adventures and run with the wind in his fur! Gary is in prime health, he has great teeth a wonderfully soft coat , up to date on his shots and micro chipped. Gary lives with his foster family and enjoys kids of all ages. His foster nephew of 2 yrs. old loves Gary and Gary lets him crawl all over him. Gary really loves being outdoors and enjoying the sun or rain. Gary is currently working on potty training and has made great progress in the last 2 weeks. He still isn't perfect ... (Read More)but it won't be long before he has it all figured out. Since Gary is the adventurous type he would need a family with a 6 foot fence that is not chain linked. Gary is able to climb up a chain link fence to pursue his adventurous spirit! Gary does great with his foster beagle sister and they will play for hours outside and inside. Gary sleeps in his kennel at night and will also take naps in the kennel. He is very comfortable in the kennel. Gary really loves belly rubs and a good scratch behind the ears. His gentle manner and loving personality means he would be great for any family. Gary is a low energy middle aged dog and would be happy with a walk or some play time each day, but he does not need to burn off a bunch of energy like a younger dog would need. Gary is neutered and HW negative. If you are interested in Gary, please fill out an adoption application at www.bassetandbeagle.org (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-13-00265Gucci (male)

Pit Bull    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Female Dogs Only, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis, Hip Dysplasia

This is Gucci. He is coming from an extremely loving home who have raised him since he was a puppy!!! He has honestly been the most amazing animal I have ever owned and it tears us all apart to have to make him leave our home. He is a great listening dog who will come when called, sit, shake, and 'nicely' get treats out of our hands when told. He is unbelievably loving and super sweet. He is my daughter's protector and sleeps in bed with her every night. (she picked him out when he was born, and then again picked him when it was time for pick up at 6wks!) He is an inside dog who will spend his day outside only if the weather is amazing and ... (Read More)he can soak up the sun. Otherwise he wants to be inside and is quiet frankly pretty lazy. He has energy to play for a little bit but he really likes to just lay around and be in calm environments. He lives with another pit who he gets along great with. We don't ever really take him out with other dogs around but I'm sure he would do fine, as he never has a problem with the puppies who come over to play sometimes and never had a problem on the trails when other dogs passed us by. He does have arthritis that acts up in the winter time and we can tell that it is sore. He has bad knees that eventually will probably need surgery but they usually only bother him in the winter, but this last winter he seemed to do really good with it and not let it slow him down. No hip Dysplasia ( I just wrote that in place of knee problems) He needs a yard to run around and play in! He has never been restricted to a leash while outside (unless going for walks/runs) so I would hate to see him stuck on a chain when having to go the bathroom or trying to soak up the sun. We are having to say goodbye though because we have a house filled with kids (we have 4 of them, and all of the neighbor kids come here to play). Yesterday was the last straw with him as he bit the neighbor girl who was at the house playing. This was his fourth time biting one of the neighbor kids who was in the yard playing with my kids. We just can not have him around the kids anymore, he is starting to growl and get defensive with my youngest child who is only 3. So before he has a chance to bite him, we are wanting to get him to an amazing home!! Someone who does not have kids around, and someone who is willing to love him with all of their heart. This is tearing apart my daughters heart and we want to find a home who can be everything he needs, and hopefully a home that will allow us to come visit him occasionally or with a family who understands the pain and hurt my daughter and other kids are going through so they will be willing to send them little updates here and there with pictures!!!! We are turning here for help, not judgements! We are devastated and extremely worried that we are going to have to put him to sleep because no one will want a dog who has bad knees or one who bites kids....This is not what we want to do at all, he has been in our home for 5 years!! We celebrate his birthday Every year with out oldest son in August,(he turns 6 this year) every holiday he gets his own special treats and he is very much loved and cared for!!! Please help us find an adult who can take care of him just as good as we have been, and hopefully someone who can share the rest of his life with us (pictures, possible visits a few times a year!! something to ease my 7 year olds little heart!) Westie    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Ozzie is a three year old Wheaton Terrier. We would like to place Ozzie in a home without young children. Although Ozzie was raised with children, he is exhibiting a number of nervous habits that may be linked to increasingly higher activity in his home. Ozzie is definitely an alpha dog. While not aggressive, he would probably get along better with more submissive dogs. He does like to play the occasional game of chase the cat, but has not gone beyond that. Ozzie is neutered and UTD on his vaccinations, and looks quite handsome in his tie.

Hi My name is Hunter...... I am 6 years old but I act like I am 3. I am a beagle/terrier mix who weighs around 18lbs I love my foster family, they have spoiled me rotten !! I am timid when you first get to know me, but I am not aggressive at all. Unless there is food, then I am a scavenger, after all I am a hound! You have to watch me I had to fight for my food my foster mom thinks. When you aren't looking, I make my move I never hurt anyone, I am just after food! My foster mom thinks I got left outside a lot because I don't like to go into the backyard and have the door close. I will just sit by the door until someone lets me in. I ... (Read More)do have accidents in the house occasionally. I really don't do that on purpose but, it is because I am afraid you will leave me outside and forget me. My foster mom leaves the back door open so that I can go outside and come right back in. I love to snuggle and I am happiest lying next to you. I sleep every night with my human foster brother. He has nightmares and I help him sleep. I can point too because my foster mom said who ever had me before used me to hunt. But I don't hunt, I am a lover! I will do good with other dogs it will just take a little time. I don't mind cats and birds too but I like to chase cats and tell them I am the boss. Do you want to be my Fur ever home I would love to snuggle with you Right now I have heartworm disease, but I am working on getting that all cleared up so I can be nice and healthy for my forever home!!     ***ADOPTION PENDING** I'm beautiful, smart and well behaved - what else do you want in a dog!! I'm a southern gal, very happy and very lucky to be rescued from a very over crowded shelter in Louisiana. As with lots of other dogs rescued from the south, I do have heartworm disease, but I am on my meds and going to be treated here soon and will be ready for adoption at the end of April - beginning of May 2017. I'm approx. 3-4 yrs. old, and over all the horrible puppy stages. Although I do love a good remote to chew on%BD'%BD|. I'm very good with other dogs, old ones or annoying little puppies . I have never been around cats, but ... (Read More)I'm so good natured I feel like I'd be fine with them. Kids of all ages are my specialty - I adore them. I stay in the bedroom at my foster home all day and sleep while my foster family is at work. I can be trusted out (if you put the remotes up). My leash manners could use a tuning up, but I do love to go for walks. I'm fine with a 4 ft. fence and don't try to jump even though my legs are a bit longer. I'm almost 40 lbs. My favorite thing to do is to curl up beside you, lay beside you, or sit beside you and stare into your eyes and subliminally tell you I love you. I'm almost hypnotic and it's very relaxing for my people. Are you ready for a gentle gal to enter your life? Wren is up to date on shots, spayed, and undergoing HW treatment. Dalmatian Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Poor Davey might be misunderstood, but he was in a large shelter and found that he could sleep with other dogs in tight spaces. He is wonderful with people and was a favorite there and staff was thrilled that he was saved by us. Then he was in a place with well meaning people but where he did not do well. We are hoping that issues there might not be real issues with him. Davey is a Dalmatian mix that was pulled from a high kill shelter in Texas and is now living in foster care in Omaha, NE. He is estimated to be around a year old, but don't let his young age fool you, he is one of the most laid back dogs you will ever meet. Davey's favorite ... (Read More)thing to do is lounge around, take naps, and chew on his toys, he is a major couch potato! He also thinks that he is a lap dog and will curl right up in your lap and fall asleep. Davey is one of the most people friendly dogs you'll meet, he loves strangers, kids, absolutely everybody! He is house trained, crate trained, and knows basic obedience, he is a VERY good boy at home. His only downfall is his not so great social skills with other animals. Animal ID: 17-04-03-00045Travis (male)

Dalmatian    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Travis has had a rough start in life. He came from a lonely pen where his owners only kept him in a pen until they grew tired of 'caring' for him. He lived totally alone from a tiny puppy til over three years later. It is obvious that much time alone has really affected him. Now in our rescue, Travis has had obedience training and now will walk on a loose leash, heel, sit, down, shake, stay, and recall. Travis shows amazing potential and willingness to learn. Travis really has a heart of gold and WANTS to please people . . .but he's still new at this and learning how. Travis bonds very closely with his owners, but is not a fan of children so ... (Read More)an adult-only home is required. Now in an Omaha NE foster home, Travis is continuing his obedience and learning more life lessons. Travis does well with medium to large dogs that are calm and tolerant. He is not recommended to go to a home with cats or other small animals. This boy's FAVORITE past time is laying with you. If you sit next to him, he will crawl up to you, lay his head in your lap, then flip on his side so you can rub him and scratch his belly. He is very gentle with his kisses . . .but he is a powerhouse when he plays if you let him be. He would make an excellent hiking or running buddy, and has the biggest puppy dog eyes when he is sad or catches himself doing something he's not supposed to. Overall, Travis can be best described as a dog that needs a strong but loving owner. He thrives on structure and yearns for a connection and bond. You can tell he just wants someone to love, and once he finds that person, he will love them forever. Contact Erin at erinholste@yahoo.com Adoption $400. (Less)

Foxhound    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello FUREVER Families!! My name is Ally and I am looking for my FUREVER home!! I am a one-year-old Foxhound and I have LOTS of energy. My perfect FUREVER family would have LOTS of energy to play with me and run with me. Before I was rescued, I was picked up as a stray and put in a horrible place with lots of other dogs. I was so freaked out, I barked all the time and almost lost my bark. I heard the humans say I was the one who needed to 'go,' and that meant putting me on death row. The wonderful people from Basset and Beagle Rescue of the Heartland found my foster family and I was saved!! When I arrived at my foster home, I was so skinny ... (Read More)and sick; and it was obvious that I had no training. I have learned a lot since coming into rescue. I used to think everyone wanted my food and often growled at my foster fur-siblings when they came close to it. And I would eat all of their food too. As soon as I learned I would always get food, then I stopped growling at them and I only eat out of my bowl. I am fully house-broken and I am working on following other commands. I love to explore using my nose, especially in the kitchen; however, I have never gotten anything off of the counter. I know 'outside,' 'treat,' 'toy,' 'sit,' 'lay down,' and 'no,' but being the stubborn hound that I am, I don't always follow those commands. Sometimes I get confused about when it is playtime and when it is not-because it's always playtime for me!! I also LOVE running around the yard, playing fetch, and chewing on squeaky toys!! If I had a basketful of toys I could call my own, then I would be in hound-heaven! I might need a privacy fence because my humans sometimes think I will jump their four-foot fence to play with the neighbor dogs. I love going on walks and I am still working on not pulling when leashed. I spend a lot of time in my kennel because sometimes my humans and foster fur-sibling don't have enough energy for me. I'm pretty happy in there with my toys and an occasional KONG filled with peanut butter. I stay in my kennel while my humans are at work and school. Getting out of the kennel is my favorite part of the day!! I love to play with other dogs, but sometimes they think I am overly enthusiastic and don't want to play with me. Someone told my foster family I should not be around cats, which is probably a good idea. I would also do better in a home with older children (10+) due to my energy level. At night, I sleep all night in my kennel and my humans really like how I wait to get out of my kennel in the morning without making a peep! Will you be my new running partner, playmate, and FUREVER FAMILY? If you are interested in Ally, please fill out an adoption application at www.bassetandbeagle.org (Less)

Carter's eye was removed, but please do not feel sorry for him, because it does not hinder him. Carter came to Nebraska and was adopted. The family recently got a new dog and decided they had no room for Carter. Carter is in a foster home and he is blossoming. Sometimes it just takes the right environment for a dog to shine. Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Any literature aficionado is familiar with Willa Cather, known for her writings reflecting the starkness of life on the Nebraska Plains. We chose the name Willa as this sweet soul embodies the sometimes harsh life in the Midwest. Like many of the characters featured in her namesake's novels, Willa had to overcome high odds and many obstacles to get to her foster home. Through the TLC of her foster family and 'pawsome' medical care, Willa is happy and on the path to peak health. She is ten years young and reportedly good with other dogs, cats and children. As she was permitted to 'free roam' in her former rural home, she will require a ... (Read More)fenced-in yard for her safety. Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Roscoe is a very sweet and gentle older Treeing Walker hound around 7 years of age and weighing about 55 pounds. He was found in rural MO. after being hit by a car. As a result of being hit, Roscoe had to have his back left hind leg amputated. He had his leg amputated shortly before coming into rescue in January, 2017 and is still learning how to navigate without his leg. He is very determined and is doing wonderfully although the laminate floors make him skid and slide at times! He is sometimes hesitant to go up stairs, but he is gaining confidence with that as well. He walks well on a leash but short walks are best due to his ... (Read More)amputation. Roscoe had to have some teeth extracted also, so he's not really into nylabones or other chew toys. Roscoe would prefer a quieter home. He is fine with children. He gets along with other dogs and cats. Roscoe is an independent, easy going fella, and he would be comfortable being the only dog or just as comfortable having other dogs around. Roscoe's favorite things are treats, lying in the sun, treats, head and neck rubs, treats, howling at sirens and more treats. I think Roscoe feels most comfortable outside as he was probably an outdoor dog, but he definitely loves to be inside to sleep at night or if it's cold out. Roscoe is potty trained but his foster home has a doggy door, so he would need time to establish a new routine if his new home does not have one. Roscoe loves his crate and feels very safe in it. He sleeps in his crate every night. The door is left open to the crate and he has access to the rest of the house, but he feels comfortable there. Roscoe is still very timid and learning that he can trust people. He is trying to be more brave and connect with his foster family. He will need some time and patience to trust when he goes to his new home. Roscoe is definitely one of the sweetest and gentle hounds his foster family has ever fostered. Roscoe can also be trusted to not be crated while left at home alone. He is not destructive and just relaxes. Roscoe is current on vaccinations, been heartworm tested and tested negative and is on heartworm prevention. He is neutered and microchipped. He is fostered in MO., but travel can be arranged for his adoption to get this sweet guy to his new home! Westie    Age: Young Puppy

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I'm special!! Why? Because I am filled with joie de vivre and even though I'm only 6 months old, I appreciate what a gift a happy life can be... I'm Esmerelda. I was born with a congenital condition called Cranio-Mandibular Osteopathy. Some dogs outgrow this condition and I intend to be one of them! Currently I am doing great on medication to alleviate any discomfort. I need a family willing to monitor me to ensure I continue to be happy and healthy! I am spunky and fun loving. A typical Westie, I would do best with a fenced-in yard to ensure I stay safe and don't wander off sniffing out the squirrel who dared to invade our yard or tracking ... Esmerelda is fully vetted, including micro chip, which is registered to her new family when finalizing her adoption. We do recommend obedience training for all of our foster dogs. Westie    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hey! My name is Oliver and I'm looking for my forever family. I'm approximately two years old and I really love having canine buddies in my foster home and would enjoy having a fur sibling in my new home as well. I'm a freedom-loving kind of guy, so I need a fenced-in yard to romp around in because, well, I haven't developed an affinity for that long thing you clip to my harness (yet). I didn't have an idyllic puppyhood. I'm really proud of my progress learning about potty schedules and stuff like that. Since my foster parents keep telling me I'm a super special guy, I admit I'm going to selective about my new home. Treats, toys, and a ... (Read More)fluffy bed are MUSTS! And, the rescue volunteers say, like any terrier, I would benefit from school (I stick my tongue out at that plan!), but, I guess it's in my best interest%BD'%BD|and, maybe I'd learn to like that walking-attached-to-you thing a ma jig.     Hello I'm Sparky. I'm an 11 year old beagle/cocker spaniel mix. My owner had to give me up because we became homeless. We were living in her car for a while but when the car died she had to move to a homeless shelter and I was not allowed to go with her. My owner thought it would be best to surrender me so I could find a wonderful home. I am in excellent health but I do have a little bit of arthritis.     Meet Jack, the Tug MASTER! This young man of 7 is a tug and fetch fanatic! Anytime you are a champion sportsman, you have to be selective about your inner circle. King Jack (does that sound too much like 'The Rock?') won't admit just anyone to his posse. Like other star athletes, he does need to meet people on his terms!! After a good round of fetch or tug, he's the ultimate snuggler. And, watch your pillow folks-Jack often burrows into bed with you, welcome or not!! Who needs a body pillow with Jack around?! LOL Jack would benefit from basic obedience training to boost his ego, as he could use some confidence building. He would ... Due to his zest for the outdoors, he will need a securely fenced-in yard to prevent him from going too long for the pass.He is smart and lets his foster parents know when he needs to go outside or is hungry, and will get very excited if you ask "Do you need to go outside?" or "Are you hungry?' Like many terriers, Jack views his crate as his refuge and 'burrow.' While housebroken in his foster home, we encourage adopters to expect any dog to require an adjustment period. Jack does need to be given limited house privileges because he gets a bit enthusiastic about squeezing the Charmin or seeing how much of a 'picker upper' the Bounty is once it's shredded! Beagle    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

***ADOPTION PENDING*** Hi, I'm Mattie the Beagle. I'm about 8 years young and looking for my forever family. I'm not fussy; I have plenty of love to give to a whole bunch of people (big & small) or just one special someone to call my own. I've been told that I'm so sweet and just fun to have by your side. I'm learning all about being an inside dog and to tell you the truth, I LOVE IT!!! I adapted to my foster family's schedule and I haven't had any bathroom accidents. I enjoy looking out the window and watching the neighborhood. My foster mom says I wouldn't make a very good watch dog; I'm too quiet. Yes, it's true...I'm a quiet ... (Read More)beagle. I just love running the perimeter of the fence, sniffing out all the bunnies and racing back when I hear my name called. The neighbor's dog tries to talk to me but I am too shy and don't answer him back. I did bark once to tell my foster mom about a skunk I saw. We quickly came inside%BD'%BD|did I mention that I am easy to pick up and carry? A little about me: I'm slightly a work in progress with my commands, but boy do I love all the positive reinforcement when I get them correct. My favorite reward are those things called belly rubs!! Yup, I will do anything for a belly rub. I'm also very curious and like to follow my foster family from room to room. Initially, I waited to be invited but now I understand that I'm allowed to go all over. I don't want to brag, but I'm about 90% trustable to leave out when you are gone. Occasionally, I see a box and, well, that is my downfall. Boxes & papers%BD'%BD|but not furniture. I don't chew on those hard things. I love it when people talk to me. I can sit and listen for hours. I just snuggle right into them. Sometimes, I even fall asleep on their laps. I have a stuffed monkey and pink bunny which I carry with me from room to room. I 'dine' in my crate for breakfast & dinner but I take my snacks during the day with my furry foster sister. If the door is open, I like to go in & out of my crate during the day. However, I get very anxious if I am locked in there for any length of time. That's why my foster family is working with me to be 100% house trustable. I enjoy meeting new people of all ages and other dogs. I haven't met a cat yet, but I'm sure with the right introduction I could get along. My foster mom says I am a true heart-melter with the gentlest disposition. Mattie is current on vaccinations, spayed, and micro chipped. She is currently undergoing treatment for HW Disease.     Well hello there! I'm Skipper. I may look like an older gentleman on the outside but inside there is a younger, respectable and slightly energetic man. My foster mom tells me I'm about 8 years old and I weigh around 37lbs. but at times I feel like a young pup! I am quite the intelligent man too. I do not dig or climb fences. I do ... (Read More)like to let the neighborhood know I exist with my old man bark. All the other dogs bark so I can respond, right? If I get a little rowdy I quickly listen to my foster mom's correction and come right in. She gets so excited that I listen so well! I currently have 4 other dogs to play with and I quite enjoy them. I want to be friends with them all even though the grumpy old one doesn't want to be friends with anyone. But even when she yells at me I respectfully listen and walk away. The younger dogs enjoy playing with me and help get that young energy out. I also have a human sibling. She's 4 years old and I enjoy watching her run about. I love when she stops to pet me and I have learned that she drops food at the table. She might just be my favorite human in the house! I know she is a tiny person so I never jump on her and I am careful when walking near her. I don't want to hurt my food buddy! I like to snuggle with my foster mom and dad. I'll lay beside them on the couch and they will rub me and it feels amazing. Most of the time I lie on my bed on the floor. I enjoy having my own special spot to go to when I am tired. I have quickly learned to go here when foster mom tells me to as well. Foster mom says she is very impressed with my quick learning abilities! Foster mom says my only 'setback' is I am a very strong boy. I surprised her the first time she walked me. I tried telling her she needed to keep up with my strength but she insists on teaching me how to walk calmer on a leash. There are just so many smells!!! Foster mom says I will need a strong owner for walking. As of now, foster mom insists on kenneling me when everyone is gone. The kennel can be a very scary place and I can get nervous when in it. Foster mom is helping me realize the kennel is a safe place and we are working on being free when everyone is gone. I am not destructive when everyone is home but foster mom said it's better to be safe than sorry when everyone leaves. We are working on being out alone for short periods of time and foster mom says that I am showing her I am a very good boy with great promise! Rescue Me ID: 17-01-01-00082Suzi (female)

Bluetick Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Suzi is a 3 year old, 50lb. coonhound mix with the sweetest disposition. She is an extremely intelligent dog and figured out the dog door in her foster home in under an hour without any coaching. She will go stand at the door to go outside if a dog door is not available. Suzi loves to be with her people and will follow you anywhere, but she especially loves to go on car rides. Suzi does well with the other dogs in the house, but does have a strong prey drive for smaller animals. Suzi has ignored the kitties at the pet store, but was a little too interested in them one on one, so she would prefer to be in a home without cats. She would love ... (Read More)to have a canine playmate or trips to the dog park if she is an only dog. Suzi was initially food protective with other dogs, but not humans, and this has disappeared as she has become accustomed to a regular feeding schedule. She has never shown aggression with a human of any age, even around food. Suzi has severe allergies that restrict her food choices to a readily available prescription dog food (about $80 a month) or a recipe created especially for her by a veterinary nutritionist that is easy to prepare. She receives weekly allergy shots as well as medicated baths and occasionally other medications and she takes them all like a champ. She will approach her foster mom and sit for her when she sees the needle and vial come out for her weekly injections and will take pills willingly with a few pieces of her kibble. We have just started a new allergy treatment and she is responding so well, we are phasing out her pills and possibly her allergy shots. The new treatment should last 4-8 weeks and we are watching to determine this time frame for her. Each treatment is $89. She is great with kids of all ages, but would be better off with children old enough to understand not to feed her due to her allergies. She has small children in her foster home that she adores and is the dog celebrity in the neighborhood. Suzi is a foodie and likes everything whether she is allergic to it or not, so care must be taken to ensure human food is out of reach. Suzi is extremely mellow and loves spending time laying on the dog beds or whatever soft blankets she can find closest to you. She rarely barks, even when the neighbor dogs are greeting her loudly. She sleeps through the night and has not had any accidents in her foster home. She knows 'sit' and 'go to bed' and she has started kenneling herself in the mornings when her foster family picks up their coats and bags to head out for the day. Although she does not like being in her kennel, she rests quietly once inside. She arrived with skin and ear infections due to her allergies, but is completely healed. Suzi shares t-shirts (youth small/6x) with her human foster sister to prevent her from scratching and biting her skin. She is working on leash training as she gets so excited about being out that she pulls on a leash. She would love to finally be in her forever home after being bounced around a few times through no fault of her own. She is a wonderful dog just looking for a soft place to land. She is spayed, HW negative and up to date on her vaccinations. Are you the special home for this special girl? Dachshund    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Alice is a beautiful 5 year old smooth black and tan dachshund. She's fun, bright, spunky, loving and a little bit ornery. Alice came to us in horrible condition with a very painful golf ball sized bladder stone, UTIs and skin allergies. It's been a long journey, but Alice is now happy, healthy and ready to find her forever home. Alice loves people of all ages and thrives off attention. She loves cuddles on the couch, belly rubs, snuggling under the blankets and giving kisses. Alice also enjoys spending time outside chasing squirrels and soaking up the sun. She will need a securely fenced yard so she can enjoy her time outside safely. ... (Read More)Alice would do great as an only "fur-child" being the center of everyone's attention. She also would be fine with another dachshund that understands that she's in charge. She can get bossy at times and is possessive of toys, but she does enjoy the company of other dachshunds that are fine with her take charge attitude. Alice will need to stay on her current food, Honest Kitchen Dehydrated, in order to prevent the formation of future bladder stones and UTIs and to maintain good urinary health. She also takes a few supplements to help her body stay healthy. Alice is an amazing little Diva, full of life and love. She can brighten up a room when she prances in.     This smile says it all, doesn't it? Cooper is a happy boy who loves life and is always on the go looking for a new adventure or friend! This boy is a mover and a shaker, but most of all a mover, who would enjoy being active with his family. We think this kid would make an awesome running partner or agility dog, where he could show off his stamina and his desire to please his person. He gets a little nervous in new places, but with someone patient and a little work, we think he would really enjoy discovering the world since he does so well in the car. Cooper is working on learning to share toys, but could live with other pups and thrive so long as boundaries are set and followed by his family. Cooper loves puzzle feeding toys and is one smart cookie! Cooper is an adolescent dog, so he will need someone to continue showing him how to be the best dog he can be. He's a loving boy and very loyal, a kid who likes to keep his people close, but is also fine hanging out and chewing a bone rather than demanding constant attention. Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi! My name is JJ the Wonder Hound, aka 'Kid Dy-no-mite!' A lot can happen in a year. In one year, I was born, abandoned, shot, suffered a broken leg and was rescued. Whew! Being JJ is a full time job!! I am a Treeing Walker Coonhound currently being fostered in Springfield, Missouri. I came into rescue when I was found in a rural area, limping. The limp was the result of a gunshot wound, which resulted in breaking my leg. But, I am fully healed, and the past injury does not slow me down a bit. I am up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and neutered. At just a little over 1 year old, I still retain some of the exuberance of a ... (Read More)puppy, but I am slowly settling into the expected maturity of adulthood. Like most coonhounds, I'm a bit of a clown with a sweet disposition and a heart of gold. My adoptive home will need a privacy fence, as I can jump a typical 4 ft chain link fence (I told you that my past injury doesn't slow me down). I have been fostered with other dogs and with cats, and I get along well with both. A household with another dog that could show me the ropes would be greatly appreciated. Because of my size and exuberance, I would probably do well with older children. I am a bit of a power chewer. I would like a good supply of appropriate chewable items, especially Nylabones and Kong toys. (I like my Kong treat dispenser, but my little beagle foster sister, Daisy, stole it from me; I don't mess with her!). Your home may need to be proofed against the antics of a 70 lb toddler. I have done well when left the run of the house, but because my foster family has a doggie door (and I can jump the fence) I have been restricted indoors because of my chewing. So, I am currently crated while my dad is at work, which is not great for me, but I make it work. An active household would be a good fit for me. If you're the right family for a sweet, goofy hound, please consider me, JJ. There is never a dull moment with me in your life! DY-NO-MITE!!! Jack Russell Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Rex!! Rex is a Jack Russell /Pug mix who is 6-7 years old! Rex knows his name but chooses to ignore it if preoccupied with important doggy business. Usually, though, he will come when called. He's a happy dog who wants to be loved and really likes tummy rubs. He also likes to play with other dogs but may fit best in a home with only one other dog about his same size or where he's the only dog. When he's not playing he wants to 'protect' his person from other dogs and has picked up a few nicks as a result. He should probably go to a home with no children under about 10. He's apparently been spoiled and, if he doesn't want to be picked ... (Read More)up or give up his toy, he does growl but has never actually snapped. He would be a good watch dog; he did not like the Cox repairman coming into our yard but once properly introduced he was fine. Rex also enjoys enthusiastically running around the back yard and laying in the sun. His preferred spot is on top of the patio table. He can jump and climb and loves to sit on the highest spot. He respects boundaries like fences and baby/pet gates. He is not entirely crate-trained but will go in to eat or if motivated by a treat, so he can likely adjust to it. At this time, he is accustomed to spending nights outside the crate and has behaved well. He is housebroken and has had no accidents. He likes to go on rides in the car. Rex does reasonably well on a leash but would do better with a harness. He wants to be a lap dog and if he can't actually be in your lap, he wants to be close by. He likes toys, especially knotted balls. He may know the 'sit' command. Rex is current on vaccinations, HW negative, neutered, and micro chipped.     Coco weighs 7 pounds and is a 6 year old female long hair chihuahua that has spent the first 5 years of her life in one of the 'horrible 100' puppy mills in Missouri. Due to the poor conditions she was living in, Coco had to be shaved upon her release as she was extremely matted. She is learning that humans can be kind and good. Coco enjoys other low energy dogs her size and also gets along well with the cats in her foster home. She enjoys napping next to a furry friend and loves dinner time. She is still learning to go potty outside and walk on a leash, and needs a fenced yard to allow her to continue with this training and explore her ... (Read More)world in safety. PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Nebraska
Dogs can make good pets in Nebraska if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.) Dogs can hear much lower frequencies than humans, over twice as high as humans, and about four times as far as humans.
