Rescue Me ID: 17-05-18-00283Phineas (male)

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

My name is Phineas and I'm a Beagle/mix but I think I'm part cat too. I've been watching the cat (I just like to observe it) and we have some similar characteristics. I love to snuggle and rub up against you (I really like to snuggle your face), and if you're done petting me but I'm not done being petted, I'll just rub against you some more. Sounds like a cat, right? There's just something about being petted and snuggling that I just can't get enough of! I do have Beagle characteristics also. I'm not overly loud, but I'll let you know if there is something going on so you won't be scared or if you do something wrong (like put me in my ... (Read More)kennel while you are home) and I can be kind of loud when I play. For the most part, I'm pretty mellow for being between 2 and 3 years old. I have two foster sisters and one foster brother but I like to play with my foster sisters the best! My foster brother is older and grumpier so I leave him alone. I will say, I don't like it when my foster sisters play and don't include me so I'd probably be best in a no dog or one dog home. I am learning some tricks, I pretty much have sit worked out but stay is much harder! I'm potty trained and know how to use a doggy door and I'm pretty good in the car (I prefer to be buckled up in the back seat). I'm still working on walking with the leash, but I'm not that heavy (only 20 lbs.) so I don't really pull hard. I'd love to meet you and show you how well I can snuggle! Phineas is current on vaccinations, neutered, and micro chipped. Phineas is currently undergoing heartworm treatment. He has to more treatments to go, them he will be ready for his forever family! Dachshund    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This sweet, petite black and tan wirehair Dachshund beauty is 6 years old and happy to finally be free of the commercial breeding industry! Hailey is timid due to her past life in the commercial breeding facility, but she is starting to come around to human attention. She gets excited and wags her tail when her foster mama talks to her. She's still a little skittish about being picked up and cuddled, but is slowly learning to trust humans. Hailey loves spending time with her canine foster siblings, so another small resident dog is a must to keep her company and show her the ropes. She will also need a securely fenced yard. NO children, ... (Read More)please! Check back for more information as Hailey gets settled into her foster home! Rescue Me ID: 17-05-12-00237Mackenzie (female)

Beagle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My name is Mackenzie - I go by Mack or Kenzie and will come running if you whistle to me. I am a 4 yr. old hound mix, 70 lbs. spayed and sweet as sugar. Did I mention beautiful too? And potty trained too? My favorite past time is to chew on sticks and branches and lay around the yard. oh and Snow is awesome!! You can't get me to come back inside when it's snowing! Even though I am a bigger and taller hound, and could probably jump a 4 ft. fence, I do not jump them so I'll be fine with a 4 ft. fenced yard. Going for walks is great, but meeting other dogs on the leash sometimes makes me a bit nervous. I prefer to live with ... (Read More)smaller dogs than me, if any at all. Also I am super smart. I know sit, lay down, roll over, and LOVE my treats! Have you ever had a dog that like to spoon? Well I do, but when I get too hot I will move and go lie somewhere else. Also I am crate trained and enjoy going in my crate when you are gone or when the environment is hectic if you have a party or something. With this being said, I do enjoy a quieter home. The reason I am in rescue after living my whole life in one home, is that I get really nervous around little kids. After my family had little ones I really became jumpy and over anxious and it was too much for me to handle. So I would really enjoy a home without little kids. Older kids over 10 yrs. old are fine as I LOVE to play fetch, but the toddlers and babies make me jittery and anxious. I have a pretty high prey drive and I've never met a cat, but I really don't think I'd like them. Do you have room in your home for me? Mackenzie is current on vaccinations, HW negative, spayed, and micro chipped. If you are interested in Mackenzie, please fill out an adoption application at www.bassetandbeagle.org (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-05-10-00122Eli (male)

Schnauzer Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My name 'Eli' means ascent. The rescue group wanted to give me a name full of the promise of days filled with sunnier skies and no more dreary, lonely days. I came from a life where loud noises meant fighting and hurting. Because of all the chaos in my former home, there wasn't much time left over for me. I'm learning that people can also be associated with snuggles, fun walks, and yummy food. But, I'm still not digging those loud noises!! I am only a year old and weigh 18 lbs. The kind rescue volunteers say I'm an 'ABITA' (a bit of terrier, a bit of ???). I may not know my family tree but the things I do know about myself are I'm ... Dalmatian Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

A scared puppy in a NM shelter caught our eye. We named her Josey and she is now in Colorado wowing everyone who meets her. She is a bundle of energy who wants to learn, play, and please her people. She is smart as a whip, fast as lightening, and cuter than a button, says her foster mom, Head of the Josey fan club! Josey knows a myriad of commands and is housebroken, good with the other dogs and is fine with cats. She rides well in the car too. Her forever home needs to have a dog buddy as Josey is a playing fool! She will alert to sounds, but will quiet when asked to. There hasn't been any thing or any one that I haven't liked. I am potty trained and kennel trained and my foster parents are teaching me new tricks. Beagle    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Um, hi, my name is Carl, and uh, I want to sniff you but I'm also kind of sca- WHAT WAS THAT?? '|(distracted)'| oh yeah, sniffing you! I love sniffing. I'm a pretty relaxed guy for the most part, I enjoy laying on the couch, playing with my foster brother, eating any treat that doesn't eat me first (constant vigilance!), and nub wagging. I lost part of my tail and part of an ear, so I have a nub! Doesn't slow me down at all, and I'm told I'm still handsome. Don't be fooled by my salt-and- pepper-George-Clooney facial hair, I'm really only 3 or 4 years old. I was found in MO with an embedded collar in my armpit, so I'm a little sensitive ... (Read More)around that area and never expose my tummy. I love pets elsewhere though! I don't mind you playing with my paws, lips, or ears, and I'm very treat motivated. I'm looking for a home that's patient with me and not scary, like the vacuum cleaner, that thing is terrifying. I look to my foster brother to show me stairs aren't intimidating and all the good spots in the yard to pee. I love having a brother and would do really well in a home with an alpha dog to show me the ropes! I will gladly go in a kennel for a treat, but because of some medication that I'm on, I have a hard time holding my bladder. I feel so bad about it, but we're trying puppy pads! Speaking of puppies, I get along pretty well with the human puppy variety, as long as they go slow and let me sniff them first, otherwise I'm kind of scared! (I love sniffing) I pull a little bit on a leash, mostly because my sniffing leads me to curious and wonderful things, but because of my previous injury please don't put a harness on me. I am happiest when running free, and being pet and loved, are you the human for me? Note from the foster mom: Carl's been dealt a rough hand; abandoned, neglected, infested with heartworm. It is a miracle to me that he's so social. Although a little skittish, he's a trusting, loyal, laidback dude that's going to be a great addition to any family. (I'd like to think his favorite musical artist would be Simon and Garfunkel.) He deserves a second chance! Rescue Me ID: 17-05-01-00146Coco (female)

Brussels Griffon    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Coco is a 4 year-old female Brussels Griffon. She is a shy sweetheart who has made progress in her foster home. She's finding she's a fluffy bed girl and beginning to explore beyond one room in the house. She's learning not all people are scary, and they can be a source of treats and kindness. While she enjoys the fresh air and green grass, she is still not convinced about the benefits of a leash! Coco's ideal family would be experienced 'Griff' parents with a resident dog (does not need to be a Brussels Griffon, but a dog of similar size). She requires a fenced-in yard as she will need time to adapt to a leash. She startles easily and could ... (Read More)be flight risk without a secure fence. Because of her timid nature, she would do best in a quiet home with no children in residence or as frequent visitors. A lot of noise and activity is currently too much for her. We find our furry friends who have spent time in 'commercial breeding facilities' need time and love. The miracle of them emerging from their shell and gaining confidence brings such joy. Coco is tired of looking for love in all the wrong places, and hopes she can find people who will earn her trust and help her appreciate all the wonderful things in life. The suggested adoption donation for Coco is $600 and goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our rescue dogs. Pit Bull    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We adopted Kami from a terrible home when she was only 5 weeks. When she was a year old she made a dominance bid when she was a year old to our older lab and won. Since then there has been a lot of tension in the home which is not good for our other dogs or for Kami. We love her playful attitude dearly but it isn't safe here for her or our other dogs. She takes a minute to warm up to a person but then is devoted to them. She sleeps in bed with us every night (right between my legs) she is such a blessing to us but I hope someone who doesn't have other dogs could open up their home to her!

Gary is in prime health, he has great teeth a wonderfully soft coat , up to date on his shots and micro chipped. Gary lives with his foster family and enjoys kids of all ages. Gary is currently working on potty training and has made great progress in the last 2 weeks. He still isn't perfect ... (Read More)but it won't be long before he has it all figured out. Since Gary is the adventurous type he would need a family with a 6 foot fence that is not chain linked. Gary is able to climb up a chain link fence to pursue his adventurous spirit! Gary does great with his foster beagle sister and they will play for hours outside and inside. Gary sleeps in his kennel at night and will also take naps in the kennel. He is very comfortable in the kennel. Gary really loves belly rubs and a good scratch behind the ears. His gentle manner and loving personality means he would be great for any family. Gary is a low energy middle aged dog and would be happy with a walk or some play time each day, but he does not need to burn off a bunch of energy like a younger dog would need. Gary is neutered and HW negative. If you are interested in Gary, please fill out an adoption application at www.bassetandbeagle.org (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-13-00265Gucci (male)

Pit Bull    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Female Dogs Only, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis, Hip Dysplasia

This is Gucci. He is coming from an extremely loving home who have raised him since he was a puppy!!! He has honestly been the most amazing animal I have ever owned and it tears us all apart to have to make him leave our home. He is a great listening dog who will come when called, sit, shake, and 'nicely' get treats out of our hands when told. He is unbelievably loving and super sweet. He is my daughter's protector and sleeps in bed with her every night. (she picked him out when he was born, and then again picked him when it was time for pick up at 6wks!) He is an inside dog who will spend his day outside only if the weather is amazing and ... (Read More)he can soak up the sun. Otherwise he wants to be inside and is quiet frankly pretty lazy. He has energy to play for a little bit but he really likes to just lay around and be in calm environments. He lives with another pit who he gets along great with. We don't ever really take him out with other dogs around but I'm sure he would do fine, as he never has a problem with the puppies who come over to play sometimes and never had a problem on the trails when other dogs passed us by. He does have arthritis that acts up in the winter time and we can tell that it is sore. He has bad knees that eventually will probably need surgery but they usually only bother him in the winter, but this last winter he seemed to do really good with it and not let it slow him down. No hip Dysplasia ( I just wrote that in place of knee problems) He needs a yard to run around and play in! He has never been restricted to a leash while outside (unless going for walks/runs) so I would hate to see him stuck on a chain when having to go the bathroom or trying to soak up the sun. We are having to say goodbye though because we have a house filled with kids (we have 4 of them, and all of the neighbor kids come here to play). Yesterday was the last straw with him as he bit the neighbor girl who was at the house playing. This was his fourth time biting one of the neighbor kids who was in the yard playing with my kids. We just can not have him around the kids anymore, he is starting to growl and get defensive with my youngest child who is only 3. So before he has a chance to bite him, we are wanting to get him to an amazing home!! Someone who does not have kids around, and someone who is willing to love him with all of their heart. This is tearing apart my daughters heart and we want to find a home who can be everything he needs, and hopefully a home that will allow us to come visit him occasionally or with a family who understands the pain and hurt my daughter and other kids are going through so they will be willing to send them little updates here and there with pictures!!!! We are turning here for help, not judgements! We are devastated and extremely worried that we are going to have to put him to sleep because no one will want a dog who has bad knees or one who bites kids....This is not what we want to do at all, he has been in our home for 5 years!! We celebrate his birthday Every year with out oldest son in August,(he turns 6 this year) every holiday he gets his own special treats and he is very much loved and cared for!!! Please help us find an adult who can take care of him just as good as we have been, and hopefully someone who can share the rest of his life with us (pictures, possible visits a few times a year!! something to ease my 7 year olds little heart!)     Hi My name is Hunter...... I am 6 years old but I act like I am 3. I am a beagle/terrier mix who weighs around 18lbs I love my foster family, they have spoiled me rotten !! I am timid when you first get to know me, but I am not aggressive at all. Unless there is food, then I am a scavenger, after all I am a hound! You have to watch me I had to fight for my food my foster mom thinks. When you aren't looking, I make my move I never hurt anyone, I am just after food! My foster mom thinks I got left outside a lot because I don't like to go into the backyard and have the door close. I will just sit by the door until someone lets me in. I ... (Read More)do have accidents in the house occasionally. I really don't do that on purpose but, it is because I am afraid you will leave me outside and forget me. My foster mom leaves the back door open so that I can go outside and come right back in. I love to snuggle and I am happiest lying next to you. I sleep every night with my human foster brother. He has nightmares and I help him sleep. I can point too because my foster mom said who ever had me before used me to hunt. But I don't hunt, I am a lover! I will do good with other dogs it will just take a little time. I don't mind cats and birds too but I like to chase cats and tell them I am the boss. Animal ID: 17-04-03-00045Travis (male)

Dalmatian    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Travis has had a rough start in life. He came from a lonely pen where his owners only kept him in a pen until they grew tired of 'caring' for him. He lived totally alone from a tiny puppy til over three years later. It is obvious that much time alone has really affected him. Now in our rescue, Travis has had obedience training and now will walk on a loose leash, heel, sit, down, shake, stay, and recall. Travis shows amazing potential and willingness to learn. Travis really has a heart of gold and WANTS to please people . . .but he's still new at this and learning how. Travis bonds very closely with his owners, but is not a fan of children so ... (Read More)an adult-only home is required. Now in an Omaha NE foster home, Travis is continuing his obedience and learning more life lessons. Travis does well with medium to large dogs that are calm and tolerant. He is not recommended to go to a home with cats or other small animals. This boy's FAVORITE past time is laying with you. If you sit next to him, he will crawl up to you, lay his head in your lap, then flip on his side so you can rub him and scratch his belly. He is very gentle with his kisses . . .but he is a powerhouse when he plays if you let him be. He would make an excellent hiking or running buddy, and has the biggest puppy dog eyes when he is sad or catches himself doing something he's not supposed to. Overall, Travis can be best described as a dog that needs a strong but loving owner. He thrives on structure and yearns for a connection and bond. You can tell he just wants someone to love, and once he finds that person, he will love them forever. Contact Erin at erinholste@yahoo.com Adoption $400. (Less)

(Read More)will not get out until his foster tells him he can get up in the morning. Carter is a happy morning boy and loves to go for a brisk walk or run when you are ready to take him. Carter's foster is working on his leash manners and he is figuring it out! Carter really wants to please people. Carter loves people and wants to be around them. Carter is currently living with another dog and gets along with her. His foster sister loves to chase him! :) Carter should have a proper meeting with all dogs in the home. He may need supervision with toys and human affection. He does not get jealous, but sometimes hogs the attention. Older children who are considerate of pets would be preferred for Carter. Carter is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and micro-chipped. If you are looking for a smart best friend....this is your dog! Carter is with Paws Up of Nebraska and more information can be found here: www.pawsupofnebraska.org (Less)

Belle is a beautiful dog, ready for the life of retirement! Before coming into rescue, she lived in an outdoor, heated kennel. Being in a home is still new to her and she is still figuring out how to relax and kick back in the life of luxury. She knows how to cuddle and prefers to be a lap dog if you're on the couch. Westie    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Any literature aficionado is familiar with Willa Cather, known for her writings reflecting the starkness of life on the Nebraska Plains. We chose the name Willa as this sweet soul embodies the sometimes harsh life in the Midwest. Like many of the characters featured in her namesake's novels, Willa had to overcome high odds and many obstacles to get to her foster home. When she entered our care, we had lab work performed as part of the vetting process. Her red blood cell count was abnormal as it was low, then stable, but could change. Because her diagnosis is unknown at this time and the vet feels it would be potentially detrimental to her ... (Read More)to perform more invasive procedures, we have placed Willa with super people who will care for her indefinitely. Today Willa is comfortable, happy and loved by her foster family. A small contribution of $25 will help provide the medication, supplements, dog food and veterinary treatments needed to keep her healthy and happy while she lives out her life as a sanctuary sweetheart. She will remain in the care of Wag N Train Terrier Rescue for the rest of her life. Your donation is greatly appreciated. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-03-08-00108Roscoe (male)

Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Roscoe is a very sweet and gentle older Treeing Walker hound around 7 years of age and weighing about 55 pounds. He was found in rural MO. after being hit by a car. As a result of being hit, Roscoe had to have his back left hind leg amputated. He had his leg amputated shortly before coming into rescue in January, 2017 and is still learning how to navigate without his leg. He is very determined and is doing wonderfully although the laminate floors make him skid and slide at times! He is sometimes hesitant to go up stairs, but he is gaining confidence with that as well. He walks well on a leash but short walks are best due to his ... (Read More)amputation. Roscoe had to have some teeth extracted also, so he's not really into nylabones or other chew toys. Roscoe would prefer a quieter home. He is fine with children. He gets along with other dogs and cats. Roscoe is an independent, easy going fella, and he would be comfortable being the only dog or just as comfortable having other dogs around. Roscoe's favorite things are treats, lying in the sun, treats, head and neck rubs, treats, howling at sirens and more treats. I think Roscoe feels most comfortable outside as he was probably an outdoor dog, but he definitely loves to be inside to sleep at night or if it's cold out. Roscoe is potty trained but his foster home has a doggy door, so he would need time to establish a new routine if his new home does not have one. Roscoe loves his crate and feels very safe in it. He sleeps in his crate every night. The door is left open to the crate and he has access to the rest of the house, but he feels comfortable there. Roscoe is still very timid and learning that he can trust people. He is trying to be more brave and connect with his foster family. He will need some time and patience to trust when he goes to his new home. Roscoe is definitely one of the sweetest and gentle hounds his foster family has ever fostered. Roscoe can also be trusted to not be crated while left at home alone. He is not destructive and just relaxes. Roscoe is current on vaccinations, been heartworm tested and tested negative and is on heartworm prevention. He is neutered and microchipped. He is fostered in MO., but travel can be arranged for his adoption to get this sweet guy to his new home! Westie    Age: Adult

Hey! My name is Oliver and I'm looking for my forever family. I'm approximately two years old and I really love having canine buddies in my foster home and would enjoy having a fur sibling in my new home as well. I'm a freedom-loving kind of guy, so I need a fenced-in yard to romp around in because, well, I haven't developed an affinity for that long thing you clip to my harness (yet). I didn't have an idyllic puppyhood. I'm really proud of my progress learning about potty schedules and stuff like that. Since my foster parents keep telling me I'm a super special guy, I admit I'm going to selective about my new home. Treats, toys, and a ... (Read More)fluffy bed are MUSTS! And, the rescue volunteers say, like any terrier, I would benefit from school (I stick my tongue out at that plan!), but, I guess it's in my best interest%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD|and, maybe I'd learn to like that walking-attached-to-you thing a ma jig. Oliver will do best in a home with no children (of any age) and with a resident dog to show him the ropes.     Bronson here and I wanna let you know a star like me isn't used to getting the cold shoulder from the public! Where are my people? I might be a bit short in the tooth (department) courtesy of the 'commercial breeding facility' lifestyle, but baby, I've still got it! I love romping around my foster mom's fenced-in yard. I am refining my leash skills and I think I've about got the 'house training' licked! I'm a mellow guy. I'm happy having other canine companions in the house or being the only fur kid. Rescue Me ID: 17-02-18-00333Claus (male)

Dachshund    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Claus and I am a six year old male smooth Dachshund. I'm black and tan with a cool white racing stripe on my chest. I came to Wag N Train in mid-February when I was laid off by a breeder. I was in pretty rough shape at the time with bad teeth, bad skin and I was way too skinny. I lost most of my teeth during my dental but that doesn't affect me much, just gives me a silly grin. I can still eat just fine and I have gained almost two pounds! Everyone thinks I look great! I've learned to walk on a leash pretty well and am housebroken. My foster Dad says I'm going to make someone really lucky since I'm such a great catch! I ... (Read More)live with two big dogs, another dachshund, and a cat and we all generally get along, even though I prefer my dachshund foster sister. We hang out together a lot. I follow my foster dad everywhere and am a lover. I love a good lap to nap in, cuddling and giving lots of kisses. I also enjoy running around the house and yard and barking at my bigger housemates and the neighbor dogs. My foster dad tells me I'm a clown because I make him laugh a lot. I am a little standoffish around people that I don't know and I shy away from children but that is mainly because they are new and I'm not used to them. (Kids make me kind of nervous.) But once I warm up to you, get ready for the kisses! I will need a securely fenced yard and a resident dog to keep me company and show me the ropes.     Heidi is a petite, energetic, 8 year old smooth chiweenie. She's so happy that she has retired from the breeding industry! She hasn't had an easy life and her little body shows it, but Heidi is on her way to a new, happy, healthy life. Heidi can be shy at first, but is quickly learning to trust people. She likes to get cuddles, give kisses (but watch out, she's a little French in the kissing department!) and play with squeaky toys. Jack Russell Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Jack, the Tug MASTER! This young man of 7 is a tug and fetch fanatic! Anytime you are a champion sportsman, you have to be selective about your inner circle. King Jack (does that sound too much like 'The Rock?') won't admit just anyone to his posse. Like other star athletes, he does need to meet people on his terms!! After a good round of fetch or tug, he's the ultimate snuggler. And, watch your pillow folks-Jack often burrows into bed with you, welcome or not!! Who needs a body pillow with Jack around?! LOL Jack would benefit from basic obedience training to boost his ego, as he could use some confidence building. He would ... (Read More)possibly be a great candidate for Parcour, Flyball, or agility. Due to his zest for the outdoors, he will need a securely fenced-in yard to prevent him from going too long for the pass.He is smart and lets his foster parents know when he needs to go outside or is hungry, and will get very excited if you ask "Do you need to go outside?" or "Are you hungry?' Like many terriers, Jack views his crate as his refuge and 'burrow.' While housebroken in his foster home, we encourage adopters to expect any dog to require an adjustment period. Jack does need to be given limited house privileges because he gets a bit enthusiastic about squeezing the Charmin or seeing how much of a 'picker upper' the Bounty is once it's shredded! If only he could be reimbursed for his quality assurance tests! Jack is fully vetted, including micro chip which will be registered to his new family when finalizing his adoption. Beagle    Age: Adult

Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

***ADOPTION PENDING*** Hi, I'm Mattie the Beagle. I'm about 8 years young and looking for my forever family. I'm not fussy; I have plenty of love to give to a whole bunch of people (big & small) or just one special someone to call my own. I've been told that I'm so sweet and just fun to have by your side. I'm learning all about being an inside dog and to tell you the truth, I LOVE IT!!! I adapted to my foster family's schedule and I haven't had any bathroom accidents. I enjoy looking out the window and watching the neighborhood. My foster mom says I wouldn't make a very good watch dog; I'm too quiet. Yes, it's true...I'm a quiet ... (Read More)beagle. I just love running the perimeter of the fence, sniffing out all the bunnies and racing back when I hear my name called. The neighbor's dog tries to talk to me but I am too shy and don't answer him back. I did bark once to tell my foster mom about a skunk I saw. We quickly came inside%BD'%BD|did I mention that I am easy to pick up and carry? A little about me: I'm slightly a work in progress with my commands, but boy do I love all the positive reinforcement when I get them correct. My favorite reward are those things called belly rubs!! Yup, I will do anything for a belly rub. I'm also very curious and like to follow my foster family from room to room. Initially, I waited to be invited but now I understand that I'm allowed to go all over. I don't want to brag, but I'm about 90% trustable to leave out when you are gone. Occasionally, I see a box and, well, that is my downfall. Boxes & papers%BD'%BD|but not furniture. I don't chew on those hard things. I love it when people talk to me. I can sit and listen for hours. I just snuggle right into them. Sometimes, I even fall asleep on their laps. I have a stuffed monkey and pink bunny which I carry with me from room to room. I 'dine' in my crate for breakfast & dinner but I take my snacks during the day with my furry foster sister. If the door is open, I like to go in & out of my crate during the day. However, I get very anxious if I am locked in there for any length of time. That's why my foster family is working with me to be 100% house trustable. I enjoy meeting new people of all ages and other dogs. I haven't met a cat yet, but I'm sure with the right introduction I could get along. My foster mom says I am a true heart-melter with the gentlest disposition. Mattie is current on vaccinations, spayed, and micro chipped. She is currently undergoing treatment for HW Disease.     Truman is a sweet gentleman looking for a home to call him own! He is a typically a mellow guy who enjoys lounging around the house, but will quickly jump up with excitement when you break out the leash for a walk. His eagerness, and strong 60-pound frame, can cause him to pull occasionally, but he responds well with gentle leaders/martingale harnesses and re-direction. In the yard, Truman loves to sniff around, talk to neighbor dogs, and lay in the yard. Because of his hound nose, he requires a 6-foot fence to make sure his adventures are contained to the backyard. Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Well hello there! I'm Skipper. I may look like an older gentleman on the outside but inside there is a younger, respectable and slightly energetic man. My foster mom tells me I'm about 8 years old and I weigh around 37lbs. but at times I feel like a young pup! I am quite the intelligent man too. I know many commands and become ecstatic when my foster mom says it's time to train. I love to learn and I really love to get treats! My foster mom says I should go to a home with a yard and I am in complete agreement. Sometimes my young energy kicks in and I need a place to get it all out. I am respectable though. I do not dig or climb fences. I do ... (Read More)like to let the neighborhood know I exist with my old man bark. All the other dogs bark so I can respond, right? If I get a little rowdy I quickly listen to my foster mom's correction and come right in. She gets so excited that I listen so well! I currently have 4 other dogs to play with and I quite enjoy them. I want to be friends with them all even though the grumpy old one doesn't want to be friends with anyone. But even when she yells at me I respectfully listen and walk away. The younger dogs enjoy playing with me and help get that young energy out. I also have a human sibling. She's 4 years old and I enjoy watching her run about. I love when she stops to pet me and I have learned that she drops food at the table. She might just be my favorite human in the house! I know she is a tiny person so I never jump on her and I am careful when walking near her. I don't want to hurt my food buddy! I like to snuggle with my foster mom and dad. I'll lay beside them on the couch and they will rub me and it feels amazing. Most of the time I lie on my bed on the floor. I enjoy having my own special spot to go to when I am tired. I have quickly learned to go here when foster mom tells me to as well. Foster mom says she is very impressed with my quick learning abilities! Foster mom says my only 'setback' is I am a very strong boy. I surprised her the first time she walked me. I tried telling her she needed to keep up with my strength but she insists on teaching me how to walk calmer on a leash. There are just so many smells!!! Foster mom says I will need a strong owner for walking. As of now, foster mom insists on kenneling me when everyone is gone. The kennel can be a very scary place and I can get nervous when in it. Foster mom is helping me realize the kennel is a safe place and we are working on being free when everyone is gone. I am not destructive when everyone is home but foster mom said it's better to be safe than sorry when everyone leaves. We are working on being out alone for short periods of time and foster mom says that I am showing her I am a very good boy with great promise! Basset Hound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

HELLO FUREVER FAMILIES! My name is Lady and my foster mom says I am a BEAUTIFUL one-year-old Basset/Coonhound mix. I have a long body like a Basset Hound; but my legs are longer, although not quite as long as a Coonhound. My first family found me on their property just before winter started. They told my foster family I was 'emaciated' and not very healthy. They truly loved me back to health and taught me how to be a 'Lady.' I was so confused and sad when I went to live with my foster family. I overheard my family explain how I distracted the service dog in the home because I always wanted to play. That big dog helped keep my skin-sister ... (Read More)healthy, so now I am looking for a new FUREVER FAMILY!! Since being in rescue, I have made lots of new friends. I have tons of energy, I love running around the back yard, and I am still very playful. I love toys, children, cats, and other little creatures, like ferrets. I come right away when my foster parents call me and I follow commands almost immediately. When I am all tuckered out, I love belly-rubs and cuddles!! My humans say I am a quick learner and I am totally housebroken. My perfect FUREVER home would give me LOTS of play time. Also, I would really enjoy a running partner in order to stay lean and lady-like. I stay in my kennel at night and while my humans are at work, just so I don't get into any trouble. Getting out of the kennel is my favorite parts of the day!! Will you love me FUREVER and be my family? Lady is current on vaccinations, HW negative, spayed, and micro chipped. Rescue Me ID: 17-01-01-00082Suzi (female)

Bluetick Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Suzi is a 3 year old, 50lb. coonhound mix with the sweetest disposition. She is an extremely intelligent dog and figured out the dog door in her foster home in under an hour without any coaching. She will go stand at the door to go outside if a dog door is not available. Suzi loves to be with her people and will follow you anywhere, but she especially loves to go on car rides. Suzi does well with the other dogs in the house, but does have a strong prey drive for smaller animals. Suzi has ignored the kitties at the pet store, but was a little too interested in them one on one, so she would prefer to be in a home without cats. She would love ... (Read More)to have a canine playmate or trips to the dog park if she is an only dog. Suzi was initially food protective with other dogs, but not humans, and this has disappeared as she has become accustomed to a regular feeding schedule. She has never shown aggression with a human of any age, even around food. Suzi has severe allergies that restrict her food choices to a readily available prescription dog food (about $80 a month) or a recipe created especially for her by a veterinary nutritionist that is easy to prepare. She receives weekly allergy shots as well as medicated baths and occasionally other medications and she takes them all like a champ. She will approach her foster mom and sit for her when she sees the needle and vial come out for her weekly injections and will take pills willingly with a few pieces of her kibble. We have just started a new allergy treatment and she is responding so well, we are phasing out her pills and possibly her allergy shots. The new treatment should last 4-8 weeks and we are watching to determine this time frame for her. Each treatment is $89. She is great with kids of all ages, but would be better off with children old enough to understand not to feed her due to her allergies. She has small children in her foster home that she adores and is the dog celebrity in the neighborhood. Suzi is a foodie and likes everything whether she is allergic to it or not, so care must be taken to ensure human food is out of reach. Suzi is extremely mellow and loves spending time laying on the dog beds or whatever soft blankets she can find closest to you. She rarely barks, even when the neighbor dogs are greeting her loudly. She sleeps through the night and has not had any accidents in her foster home. She knows 'sit' and 'go to bed' and she has started kenneling herself in the mornings when her foster family picks up their coats and bags to head out for the day. Although she does not like being in her kennel, she rests quietly once inside. She arrived with skin and ear infections due to her allergies, but is completely healed. Suzi shares t-shirts (youth small/6x) with her human foster sister to prevent her from scratching and biting her skin. She is working on leash training as she gets so excited about being out that she pulls on a leash. She would love to finally be in her forever home after being bounced around a few times through no fault of her own. She is a wonderful dog just looking for a soft place to land. She is spayed, HW negative and up to date on her vaccinations. Are you the special home for this special girl? Dachshund    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Alice is a beautiful 5 year old smooth black and tan dachshund. She's fun, bright, spunky, loving and a little bit ornery. Alice came to us in horrible condition with a very painful golf ball sized bladder stone, UTIs and skin allergies. It's been a long journey, but Alice is now happy, healthy and ready to find her forever home. Alice loves people of all ages and thrives off attention. She loves cuddles on the couch, belly rubs, snuggling under the blankets and giving kisses. Alice also enjoys spending time outside chasing squirrels and soaking up the sun. She will need a securely fenced yard so she can enjoy her time outside safely. ... (Read More)Alice would do great as an only "fur-child" being the center of everyone's attention. She also would be fine with another dachshund that understands that she's in charge. She can get bossy at times and is possessive of toys, but she does enjoy the company of other dachshunds that are fine with her take charge attitude. Alice will need to stay on her current food, Honest Kitchen Dehydrated, in order to prevent the formation of future bladder stones and UTIs and to maintain good urinary health. She also takes a few supplements to help her body stay healthy. Alice is an amazing little Diva, full of life and love. She can brighten up a room when she prances in. Who doesn't need a little more light in their lives? Suggested adoption donation for Alice Ann is a minimum of $300 and goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our rescue dogs.     This smile says it all, doesn't it? Cooper is a happy boy who loves life and is always on the go looking for a new adventure or friend! This boy is a mover and a shaker, but most of all a mover, who would enjoy being active with his family. We think this kid would make an awesome running partner or agility dog, where he could show off his stamina and his desire to please his person. He gets a little nervous in new places, but with someone patient and a little work, we think he would really enjoy discovering the world since he does so well in the car. Cooper is a hound/terrier mix -- really an All-American boy and completely unique. He ... Cooper is working on learning to share toys, but could live with other pups and thrive so long as boundaries are set and followed by his family. Cooper loves puzzle feeding toys and is one smart cookie! Cooper is an adolescent dog, so he will need someone to continue showing him how to be the best dog he can be. He's a loving boy and very loyal, a kid who likes to keep his people close, but is also fine hanging out and chewing a bone rather than demanding constant attention. Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

****ADOPTION PENDING*** i! My name is JJ the Wonder Hound, aka 'Kid Dy-no-mite!' A lot can happen in a year. In one year, I was born, abandoned, shot, suffered a broken leg and was rescued. Whew! Being JJ is a full time job!! I am a Treeing Walker Coonhound currently being fostered in Springfield, Missouri. I came into rescue when I was found in a rural area, limping. The limp was the result of a gunshot wound, which resulted in breaking my leg. But, I am fully healed, and the past injury does not slow me down a bit. I am up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and neutered. At just a little over 1 year old, I still retain some ... (Read More)of the exuberance of a puppy, but I am slowly settling into the expected maturity of adulthood. Like most coonhounds, I'm a bit of a clown with a sweet disposition and a heart of gold. My adoptive home will need a privacy fence, as I can jump a typical 4 ft chain link fence (I told you that my past injury doesn't slow me down). I have been fostered with other dogs and with cats, and I get along well with both. A household with another dog that could show me the ropes would be greatly appreciated. Because of my size and exuberance, I would probably do well with older children. I am a bit of a power chewer. I would like a good supply of appropriate chewable items, especially Nylabones and Kong toys. (I like my Kong treat dispenser, but my little beagle foster sister, Daisy, stole it from me; I don't mess with her!). Your home may need to be proofed against the antics of a 70 lb toddler. I have done well when left the run of the house, but because my foster family has a doggie door (and I can jump the fence) I have been restricted indoors because of my chewing. So, I am currently crated while my dad is at work, which is not great for me, but I make it work. An active household would be a good fit for me. If you're the right family for a sweet, goofy hound, please consider me, JJ. There is never a dull moment with me in your life! DY-NO-MITE!!! Jack Russell Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

Meet Rex!! Rex is a Jack Russell /Pug mix who is 6-7 years old! Rex knows his name but chooses to ignore it if preoccupied with important doggy business. Usually, though, he will come when called. He's a happy dog who wants to be loved and really likes tummy rubs. He also likes to play with other dogs but may fit best in a home with only one other dog about his same size or where he's the only dog. When he's not playing he wants to 'protect' his person from other dogs and has picked up a few nicks as a result. He should probably go to a home with no children under about 10. He's apparently been spoiled and, if he doesn't want to be picked ... (Read More)up or give up his toy, he does growl but has never actually snapped. He would be a good watch dog; he did not like the Cox repairman coming into our yard but once properly introduced he was fine. Rex also enjoys enthusiastically running around the back yard and laying in the sun. His preferred spot is on top of the patio table. He can jump and climb and loves to sit on the highest spot. He respects boundaries like fences and baby/pet gates. He is not entirely crate-trained but will go in to eat or if motivated by a treat, so he can likely adjust to it. At this time, he is accustomed to spending nights outside the crate and has behaved well. He is housebroken and has had no accidents. He likes to go on rides in the car. Rex does reasonably well on a leash but would do better with a harness. He wants to be a lap dog and if he can't actually be in your lap, he wants to be close by. He likes toys, especially knotted balls. He may know the 'sit' command. Rex is current on vaccinations, HW negative, neutered, and micro chipped.     Coco weighs 7 pounds and is a 6 year old female long hair chihuahua that has spent the first 5 years of her life in one of the 'horrible 100' puppy mills in Missouri. Due to the poor conditions she was living in, Coco had to be shaved upon her release as she was extremely matted. She is learning that humans can be kind and good. Coco enjoys other low energy dogs her size and also gets along well with the cats in her foster home. She enjoys napping next to a furry friend and loves dinner time. She is still learning to go potty outside and walk on a leash, and needs a fenced yard to allow her to continue with this training and explore her ... (Read More)world in safety. PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Nebraska
Dogs can make good pets in Nebraska if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
