Basset Hound Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi! My name is Kami. I'm a young girl, only about a year old, and a 'low-rider'. I don't know exactly what that means but my foster mom says it's because my legs are so short and my body is really long. They say I'm possibly a beagle/basset/dachshund mix. I'm about 30 pounds and I'm pretty sure I'm meant to be a lap dog. I love to go on walks, although I'm still trying to figure out the leash, give kisses, play with toys, and chew on bones. I really like to chew on things but I don't chew on things that are important to my people, I keep it narrowed down to toys and bones. I'm house trained but I haven't figured out the dog door yet. ... (Read More) I watch my fur siblings go in and out of it but I don't quite understand it. Oh, and I'm a little afraid of going down stairs. I can go up them just fine but something about going down is scary. My foster mom says I'll learn, it's just taking a little time. I'm also working on some basic training like sit, stay and down. I don't tend to jump up on people but if you're sitting down, whether it's a chair, on the couch, on the floor, I will try to climb into your lap. Like I said, I'm pretty sure I was meant to be a lap dog. I am kennel trained, although I don't understand what 'kennel up' means yet. You just need to toss a small treat inside and I'll get right in. I'm actually really good and quiet in my kennel. I like other dogs, and understand when they tell me no, and cats. I haven't had a chance to be around kids yet but I'm sure I'll love them too! If you're looking for a young, laid back girl still in training then please consider me. I'd love to have a family I can call my own! Kami is current on vaccinations, HW negative, spayed and micro chipped. If you are interested in Kami, please fill out an adoption application at www.bassetandbeagle.org (Less)

Beagle    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

All I want for Christmas are my two front teeth! Nah, just kidding, I'm not that young or that old! I think I'm the perfect age at 8 years young. My name is Honey and I'm a petite 15 pound beagle mix. My favorite things are ear scratches and belly rubs! I even think I prefer those to food, although I really like my food! I am missing a couple of teeth but that's only because I wasn't taken good care of before I was rescued. I was also being eaten alive by fleas. They itched so bad that I scratched off half of my hair all over my backside. My hair is starting to grow back now! I really like other dogs, but I like them to be kind of ... (Read More)lazy because I like to cuddle with them. Did I mention I'm a huge cuddler? I like to be carried around (it feels like I'm being cuddled all the time), but I like to walk too. I'm great on a leash. I'm house trained and although my foster family has a doggie door, I prefer not to use it unless I absolutely have to. I like for people to go outside with me. Don't worry, I'll let you know when I have to go out. I'm kennel trained, although I don't need to be. I'm not very big so I can't counter surf, as a matter of fact, I need to be lifted onto the couch or into bed. I like to sleep with my people but I don't have to, but I really, really like it! I like kids and cats, especially if they cuddle with me. I enjoy barking at the cat in my foster home when she won't play with me. She only does what she wants when she wants, not when I want and I don't understand that! I am healthy as a horse and just the perfect girl, what more could you want? Honey is current on vaccinations, spayed, HW negative, and micro chipped. If you are interested in Honey, please fill out an adoption application at www.bassetandbeagle.org (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-11-13-00355Ellie (female)

Beagle    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Blind

Hi everyone! I'm Ellie. I am just a baby at about 12 weeks old. I am a very special girl who will require a very special family.. I am pure beagle but born blind which is why I am special and looking for a home that has extra patience and the proper environment for me. Just like a human my blindness has not slowed me down as I still have a voice (I am a beagle after all), and I have a heightened sense of smell and hearing. I did have a nasty fall due to a noise that startled me and I broke my right elbow which is now on the mend. I have figured out how to climb stairs, just not go down yet and would probably do best in a home with ... (Read More)minimal stairs. Otherwise I'm a happy, healthy girl looking for my forever family. Do you have what it takes to raise a Blind Beagle? I really love people and will give you lots of snuggles, kisses and playtime. I have TONS of energy! I am good at entertaining myself but can get bored quickly so having an older playmate who will play with me but not get too rough would be awesome. I love to run and sniff around the yard, I can be a little silly doing this as I like to run in circles. I have not been exposed to cats yet. I have just begun working on my basic commands and will need someone with extra patience to work with me. I am working on potty training so you will need to continue to work with me until I get the hang of it. Another thing about me, just like all puppies, I like to chew on everything. Fingers, other puppies, etc. and I am learning that's what all these puppy toys are for. My new home will need to be puppy proofed and have lots of chew toys and supervision while I continue learning. If you think you are ready for all this cuteness, puppy breath and energy, get in contact with BBRH! If you are interested in Ellie, please fill out an adoption application at www.bassetandbeagle.org (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-11-08-00527Winnie (female)

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Needs Vaccinations, Fearful/Anxious

Winnie is a 3 and 1/2 year old 45lbs fixed female. She loves eating food and chewing bones, but bully sticks are her favorite! Whenever she can she loves chasing balls, two of which are her favorite toys. She will destroy a tennis ball in a minute and is very tough on flimsy toys but does not chew the house or tear up pillows. She's a belly-to-belly snuggler who occasionally snores, and you better watchout because she will give you kisses. She's very vocal with grunts, snorts, groans, wimpers, and growls. My little cutie. She is also scared of her own farts. She will wake up and run across the room when she toots in her sleep. She has some ... (Read More)good energy and requires a couple walks or sessions of fetch per day. Currently needs a heartworm and parvo vaccination but is current with rabies and fleas (with paperwork). I have had her with me for 3 years and I love her dearly but she and my other dog have started fighting since I moved from Chicago to Lincoln a month ago. After an escalation between the two female pitts, Winnie needed stitches and I've decided to separate the dogs. I feel it is in their best interest to rehome. I would say Winnie has been an ideal dog other than the recent behavior. Now that the dogs have been shaken up in addition to their fighting there have been instances of urinating in the house. Last month I would have said Winnie was house trained but now feel it should be mentioned. When she is feeling uncomfortable or stressed she will chase her tail and spins in circles. With Winnie I will provide a bag of food, her bed, her two favorite balls, a leash, her polka-dot collar, and a choke chain (even though she's very good on a leash). She will also come with a winter jacket and a fleece. It is not unusual for her to get dirty ears or ear infections. I will provide her opened bottle of ear cleaner as well. The ear cleaner is simple to use and very effective. An application will have to be completed at nebraskanokill.org to adopt Winnie. Winnie is a happy girl with constant full body tail wag (wiggle butt :) ).phzacsek (Less)

***ADOPTION PENDING*** Everyone, meet Scout! Scout is approximately a 4.5 month old Beagle/mix who weighs 17 lbs. She is a very happy girl who loves to play and cuddle (unless she feels like playing). Scout came to us after being rescued in Arkansas, where she was found abandoned at six weeks old. While still a puppy, Scout is a very smart dog. Her foster mom is working on basic training, which Scout is starting to pick up on! Scout loves people and saying hi. In addition to people, she plays well with most dogs! She gets a little intimidated of the larger dogs because she's just a puppy, but overall she plays very well. One of the more ... (Read More)humorous friendships that has developed is between Scout and her resident cat. They LOVE each other. So if you have a cat who doesn't mind dogs, she will get along with them wonderfully. As with all puppies, Scout has some definite puppy behaviors! House training is in progress, but she is still having some accidents. The crate training is going well and she goes into her crate willingly! The biggest puppy behavior that needs more work on is the chewing. If you leave anything out that she may find interesting, she will chew on it. Her current favorite is shoes! Scout's foster mom is working on commands such as 'leave it' and 'drop it'. In addition to finding anything to chew, Scout likes to play bite and is a bit mouthy. She has improved in this area in just two weeks, but will definitely need some more training in this area. While she finds the play biting all fun and games, her bites do hurt so keep this in mind if you have kiddos. We don't doubt that she will break this habit! After all, she is teething. Scout will make a wonderful companion dog and is sure to brighten anyone's day. She's a belly rub magnet who loves to be loved and show it. Scout is vaccinated, spayed, hw negative, and micro chipped. If you are interested in Scout please fill out an adoption application at www.bassetandbeagle.org (Less)

He is a beautiful dog. Well mannered and loveable. He is the son to our older Pit. His mother was a Bully Pit. We kept him to become a service dog for my mom but he wasn't a good fit. We are just overloaded with dogs and we need to get rid of him. We have 4 older kids and two cats and he is fine with all of them. Not sure how he would behave around Little kids.     Darby Louise aka Darby Doo-Da cracks me up! What a goober! She has not had a kind life, and she's still a youngster. We are working to find a protein that doesn't cause her allergies, she caught a URI on her trip but none of that stops her from being the sweetest and funniest, short and stocky lil pitty princess ever! It was reported that she isn't good with other dogs, thus no other rescue was interested, she was actually tagged and when the other rescue found out they told transport not to bring her!! We conducted our own dog tests with 2 of our dogs and she passed with flying colors. So we aren't sure if it's just the dogs she met and the ... Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Before I tell you a little about myself, Phargo, let me tell you about the beautiful park I like to visit at sundown. It's a little off the beaten path which makes it so peaceful. I love to wander on the trails, breathing in the pungent smell of grass and listening to the cracking of the tree branches as the evening breeze chases off the heat of the day and replaces it with the cool dance of evening. So many scents and sounds to fill the senses. The birds practicing for their nighttime lullaby, the cicadas singing in harmony leading me to believe there is the only one, and crickets and frogs and an occasional early owl join the symphony. I ... (Read More)love to watch the fading light cause the shadows to dance on the gently winding pathways and yes, I do try to catch the little twinkling fireflies. (Who doesn't, it reminds me of the magic childhood) As you can see already I'm a bit of a softie and a romantic. What I'm looking for is someone who would like to walk with me here and other places like this. Besides this, I love leisurely drives that end up at a little shop somewhere eating ice cream. I enjoy snuggling on the couch and I have to be honest here, I am big into kissing. I hope that's not too forward for you but I believe hugs and kisses are a must on every greeting as well as several times throughout the day. I am a fan of good conversation or just sitting quietly. I love being active as well. If you are into tossing a ball around, doing some hiking or a jog on the beach, I'm your guy. If you have kids I would be excited to be a part of their lives but if it's just me and you I'm okay with that as well. I'm open to having a dog or two but not sure how I feel about cats (I don't have any right 'meow' lol). So here comes the less desirable parts, yikes! I'm a pretty clean guy all around but not very good at cleaning up after myself. I love food and snacks but I have no cooking skills whatsoever. I prefer takeout or anything that comes in a can or a bag and I am a huge fan of leftovers! I'm a guy so sometimes I belch or...well you know. So here's the deal. I'm looking for my special someone to accompany me on an adventure in the park. I'm heading there in a couple of days so if you'd like to meet up and possibly get some ice cream afterwards, I will be looking for your pm! Let's do forever! Phargo is a more URGENT dog in that he's stuck in boarding. He is loved and cared for but he DESERVES so much more. He does well with children and other dogs however he is very protective of his home and his family, which means if you're going to have people over, please kennel him and or provide him with proper slow introductions. This boy is an absolute GEM of a dog who truly deserves his own FURever family to love him forever! (Less)

Suzi can be trusted to be out during the day at home, but her foster family generally kennels her while away, just in case the kids have left some food out where she can reach it. She is perfectly housebroken and while she is dog door trained, she will also go to the door and wait to be let out when a dog door is not available. She adores the other dog in her foster home and does well with most other dogs as long as she has a proper introduction. Suzi ignores the kitties at the pet store for adoption, but was a little too interested in the one she met face to face, so she would be better in a feline free home. When she first arrived from the shelter, she showed some food aggression with the other dog in the house, but that has faded away over time and has become a non-issue in her foster home. She has never shown any human aggression, even around food and has young children in her foster home. Suzi does have some severe allergies that are currently being managed through prescription dog food and medications. She arrived with skin and ear infections and her skin is now totally healed with her hair growing back in where needed. Her dog food is readily available and is being purchased from an online supplier for about $80 for a 6-week supply. 99% of the time, you can simply put her pill in her bowl with her dry dog food and she will take it without issue. The other 1% of the time, she will eat it from her foster mom's hand with about 5 pieces of dry dog food-it is amazing. Her daily pills cost about $80.00 a month, with occasional rebate offers available. She is spayed, HW- and current on vaccinations. Suzi is such an extraordinary dog that deserves to be in a forever home of her own where she is loved and cared for. Beagle Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This smile says it all, doesn't it? Cooper is a happy boy who loves life and is always on the go looking for a new adventure or friend! This boy is a mover and a shaker, but most of all a mover, who would enjoy being active with his family. We think this kid would make an awesome running partner or agility dog, where he could show off his stamina and his desire to please his person. He gets a little nervous in new places, but with someone patient and a little work, we think he would really enjoy discovering the world since he does so well in the car. Cooper is a hound/terrier mix -- really an All-American boy and completely unique. He ... (Read More)loves to play with other dogs, and has a rough and tumble personality with a bold play-style -- not for dog playmates who are faint of heart! Cooper is working on learning to share toys, but could live with other pups and thrive so long as boundaries are set and followed by his family. Cooper loves puzzle feeding toys and is one smart cookie! Cooper is an adolescent dog, so he will need someone to continue showing him how to be the best dog he can be. He's a loving boy and very loyal, a kid who likes to keep his people close, but is also fine hanging out and chewing a bone rather than demanding constant attention. We think Cooper is as special as they come and we cannot wait for him to find his family. If you think that may be you, apply today! Cooper is microchipped, UTD on shots and is neutered. Jack Russell Mix    Age: Adult

Meet Rex!! Rex is a Jack Russell /Pug mix who is 6-7 years old! Rex knows his name but chooses to ignore it if preoccupied with important doggy business. Usually, though, he will come when called. He's a happy dog who wants to be loved and really likes tummy rubs. He also likes to play with other dogs but may fit best in a home with only one other dog about his same size or where he's the only dog. When he's not playing he wants to 'protect' his person from other dogs and has picked up a few nicks as a result. He should probably go to a home with no children under about 10. He's apparently been spoiled and, if he doesn't want to be picked ... (Read More)up or give up his toy, he does growl but has never actually snapped. He would be a good watch dog; he did not like the Cox repairman coming into our yard but once properly introduced he was fine. Rex also enjoys enthusiastically running around the back yard and laying in the sun. His preferred spot is on top of the patio table. He can jump and climb and loves to sit on the highest spot. He respects boundaries like fences and baby/pet gates. He is not entirely crate-trained but will go in to eat or if motivated by a treat, so he can likely adjust to it. At this time, he is accustomed to spending nights outside the crate and has behaved well. He is housebroken and has had no accidents. He likes to go on rides in the car. Rex does reasonably well on a leash but would do better with a harness. He wants to be a lap dog and if he can't actually be in your lap, he wants to be close by. He likes toys, especially knotted balls. He may know the 'sit' command. Rex is current on vaccinations, HW negative, neutered, and micro chipped. If you are interested in Rex, please fill out an adoption application at www.bassetandbeagle.org (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Nebraska
Dogs can make good pets in Nebraska if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia Low-Cost Nebraska Spay & Neuter Clinics
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.)
