We got Jessie as a 2-mo old pup from the Ne Humane Society. She very quickly became dominant with our older bigger dog but they work it out ok. She has gotten increasingly aggressive w/other dogs and now has bitten someone. We have worked hard to teach her to be safe around our 1 1/2 y old granddaughter and she mostly keeps her distance but I wouldn't trust her with kids. Altho it will break our hearts, we will have to have her euthanized if we can't find someone to adopt her becuase we can't keep her anymore. She is a wonderful dog with my husband and me. We got Jessie as a 2-mo old pup from the NE Humane Society and noticed that she quickly became dominant with our older larger dog but they work it out ok. However she is increasingly agressive to dogs outside the house and recently bit someone in spite of our best efforts to contain her. She is quarantined until 5/28 and although it will break our hearts, we will have to have her euthanized if we cannot find someone to adopt her because we can no longer keep her. About my Lucy- I am heartbroken that I have to find a new home for her, but want nothing but the best for her. Unfortunately I forced to move to a place that will not allow dogs. Lucy is a wonderful dog-girl with a magical sense of humor- Lucy is a terrier/retriever mix. I adopted her 2.5 years ago from the Delaware SPCA. She was dumped as a puppy at the kennel and spent the first 2 years of her life in a small cage. She was very ill as a puppy with pneumonia and almost died. My Lucy was nursed back to health, and kept alive because she is such a great dog-girl. I found Lucy via a website called 'pet finders'-- they had a video of her in ... (Read More)a baby pool being squirted with a water hose. She was rolling in that pool in a state of sheer ecstasy. She absolutely loves to swim. Lucy is very high energy. She loves other dogs-but seems to get along best with male dogs she likes to roll around on the ground and play rough. She is great with children, and seems to understand that they are small, so she is extra gentle with them, but she is strong- probably not the best around a toddler because I am afraid(although i dont know that for a fact)she may knock them down- but she would NEVER hurt anyone- She looks like she could have some pit-bull in her, but nothing about a pit mix is on her adoption papers, and my vet says she is not a pit. Not that there is anything wrong with pits- but every dog with short hair and a square face is labeled 'pits' these days. That being said, the only guarantee about who she is that I can give is that she is the best dog in the world. Lucy goes everywhere with me. I walk/run with her every day. She needs a home (a farm would be great) where she has room to run. She sleeps in bed with me at night and is a great watchdog-I don't know if she would go after an intruder, because she wants to love everyone she encounters! Fortunately for me, I have never had the misfortune to find out how she might respond to an uninvited visiter. She might just offer them a can of soda. Lucy is beautiful and is everything good in this world. Please, help me find a forever home for her. I can promise you she gives far more than she is capable of taking. It breaks my heart to give her up, but if I can find her someone who will love and take care of her my prayers have been answered. Lucy has been spayed, and is up to date on all shots. She also has a micro-chip, has graduated from obiedence school- she knows basic commands like 'sit', is house trained and wont chew anything except her doggie toys i give her and big soup bones. Lily is my three year old tri-colored basset hound, in need of a good home. Due to unexpected circumstances I can longer keep my baby girl. She is an absolute sweetheart but due to her breed, at times can be very stubborn. She loves to be outside, whether it's in the backyard playing, on a walk or bulldozing through the woods on a trail! Her Owner has had a stroke and cannot take her on walks during the day when kids are at school or sporting events in the evening. Dixie was found as a stray. She has a torn ACL and positive for heart worm. Dixie has had multiple litters but will be spayed as soon as she can be. She's in a foster home and getting along well with the other dogs in the home. Very good with the children and adults. Dixie is receiving heart worm treatment and her ACL is being treated. We don't know how much her ACL will affect her in the future but she is doing very well with it now. Dixie is UTD on vaccinations now. She's 54 pounds of muscle and personality. Dogs can make good pets in Nebraska if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year. Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized.
