Simba is a darling at home with the entire family and is good with people we allow in the house. He is very agressive if non introduced people enter the home/property. He did bite a neighbor that came close to the yard and the gate had been acccidentaly left open. We will probably have to have him euthanized unless someone would like to take him. He is only 1 year old but we did not do any early trainig and do not anticipate we will have time to invest in trainig. He is AKC and has papers. Well, what can you say about a puppy? Little Chloe is only about 10-12 weeks old. How does a baby end up on death row? Chloe's mother and littermates were adopted from a high kill shelter in Southern California. Chloe sat for 2 weeks by herself in a cold concrete kennel. Dogs that don't get adopted don't get much sympathy, and they have to move them out, so the more adoptable dogs can be displayed. Chloe was out of time. Luckily, VSR was able to get her out. Angus is a rescue from Harbor Shelter in San Pedro, California. He spent almost three months there before being rescued by JD at Lonewoof Rescue. When she came to the shelter she was about 29lbs (terribly skinny) - Becky had a bad strain of kennel cough for 3 weeks following her rescue by us, (successfully treated with antibiotics), and so her appetite was not great enough to allow her to put on much more weight, but she is now around 31lbs - she still needs to put ... (Read More)on at least 8lbs so that she can top out around 40lbs. She also had some sores on her body which are now healing nicely - Becky had had a life of neglect... We think she is probably around 5-6 years old with her level of energy. She came in as an Owner Surrender to the shelter with the owner listed as being allergic to the dog. (We're not sure how long they owned her, and if perhaps she was inherited...they gave very little information about her). She is very very sweet, but typically shy at first meeting. She's house trained - takes care of business once out of her kennel and does not like to soil her sleeping area at all. Becky also has fly bitten ears and some scabbing on her nose - both of which are healing well (evidence that she was perhaps kept as an outdoor dog). She's curious but good on leash and is attentive and obedient. She's very alert to her surroundings. She's quiet (never heard her bark at anyone!), and people friendly once she has a chance to get to know you properly. Whilst at the shelter she had four doggie roommates. She's so sweet and calm around people, and appears submissive with other dogs. She also travels well in a car. We need a foster for this lady, so if you would be interested, let us know! Dogs can make good pets in Nevada if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year. Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized.
