Atom is a really friendly young guy! He was surrendered by his family who state he is house trained and is good with both adults and kids. His previous owners say that he is good with kids of all ages. He has behaved very nicely in the company of some of the other dogs at the shelter so he is at the very least dog selective. He seems willing to please. Our volunteers report that once he is away from all the barking dogs in their kennels, he settles down and walks very well on leash. I'm Trooper, a black and white border collie mix, about 55 lbs. I was adopted from a shelter by my mom two years ago. I'm house-broken, politely wait for my food until she says 'ok,' don't chew furniture (just sticks outside), love riding in the Jeep , chasing soccer balls, going for leash walks and being pet!! The shelter said I could be an agility dog and mom believes them - she was thinking of making me my very own course. I've learned to really trust her and like her elderly parent who lives with us. Mom says my barking and antics make them nervous and even though I've improved in so many ways, I still have to learn a few things. However, someone important to her mother made a surprise visit and entered the house - since the gate wasn't up, I rushed in and protected my housemate. Now that lady says she can't come back if I am there, she is too scared. I guess she must be really important because mom says she has no choice, my 'grandmom' really needs the lady to visit several times a week, so I have to go:( The local no-kill shelter no longer will take a dog like me - mom even offered to rent a kennel and come daily to take care of my needs until it was possible to return home. No dice. So here we are, desperately hoping someone out there is willing to place me in their loving, patient and intelligent care - protecting me and others from me - working with me to get past my fearful, territorial, protective aggression. Tucker is a 7 year old, pure breed chocolate Labrador retriever. We got Tucker from 'Endless Mountain Labradors,' in Gillette, PA when he was a pup. www.emlabradors.com. I immediately fell in love with him and the brown mark down his nose, even though he was the loudest barker in bunch. Tucker and labs in general are rambunctious, high energy, loving, and affectionate. They are the best dogs in world! Tucker is without question, no exception! When Tucker was three years old he tore his ACL and had surgery from running around up at the park. He has had routine follow ups at Tranquility Vetinary Clinic(908-852-7800) and his leg is in ... (Read More)great shape now, but warrants caution. He also is up to date on all his shots and vaccines and receives frontline and his heartworm on a monthly basis. Tucker also is house broken and potty trained. With that said he still loves to bark at the mailman or anyone else for that matter that he might see and doesn't know. He is very protective of his home and is great watchdog, but honestly wouldn't hurt a fly. He still occasionally will take a shoe, toy, or something he's not supposed to have for attention. Some of his favorite activities is to play with his big ball on the deck for hours, chasing and chewing up sticks, and most of all swimming wherever he can find water or running around at the park. He also loves to have his belly rubbed endlessly and to be scratched behind his ears. At this time in our lives, Tucker needs more exercise and attention than we can give him. With 3 children under 3 years old, we can't provide the time and exercise that Tucker deserves. As much as Tucker is great around the kids, we do feel he would do better with a family who doesn't have little ones running around the house and causing the chaos that they naturally do. Also, he needs a family who can truly devote the time and energy to Tucker on a daily basis and has the freedom to take him for long walks everyday and have a yard where he can drain all of his energy. While we will miss Tucker more than anyone will ever know, he needs more than we can provide him. This is one of the hardest things I personally have ever had to do, but we want to find not just a great home, but the right home for Tucker because he deserves the best. A state trooper took him to the animal shelter in Newark NJ-124 Evergreen Ave, Ph# 973-824-7080. I don't think they will keep him for long. Totally different girl when you get her outside and away from all the shelter noise and craziness. Out of all the 12 Urgents she is the underdog in the shelter, and sadly, it seems she knows this. This dog has been at the shelter since last summer. He is almost out of time due to shelter overcrowding. He has had a lot of training here by our volunteer dog trainer, Dee. He speaks for treats, sits, and gives both left and right paw. Walks great on a leash and is highly trainable due to the fact that he is very food motivated. Molly is an angel of a dog! She is a retriever mixed with perhaps Plott Hound. She is between 5-7 years old and weighs 45 lbs. She had a leg injury when rescued. Apparently she was hit by a car and suffered a fractured pelvis and dislocated hip. The pelvis has already begun healing itself and she just underwent surgery for a femoral head osteotomy which should allow her to be more comfortable and use her leg. But 1 week ago he passed away and now I have no place for these sweet girls to go. I would love to take them as I love them but my condo does not allow dogs they are extremely strict about this rule and I am not capable of moving in order to keep them. Most of the shelters I have called had said that they will put them down just based on their age and that it didnt matter whether they were good dogs or not.
