Rottweiler    Age: Puppy

This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only.  Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. Wonderful dog, he has never bitten anyone, but he is aggressive with certain people,my mother livers next door, we live on a farm, when my sister or mother come across the field he is acting aggressive towards them, I also have a niece that he acts aggressive towards, once the dog is introduced he acts fine. He is causing issues in the family with his behavior that is normal for the breed, so as much as I don't want to get rid of the dog it seems as this is the only avenue. He must go to a home where he is loved, and not to live on a chain. He plays with our barn cats and is run off by our TCup Morkey he is registered and has a chip. He will ... Rescue Me ID: 17-04-25-00183Monte (male)

German Shorthaired Pointer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Monte. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 50 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Negley area and I was picked up by the pound. I was given away and my new people never came to claim me so I am now up for adoption. I am a very sweet boy. I love people and I get along well with other dogs. I have had some training. I know how to sit down when I am told. I also keep my kennel pretty clean at night. I will make a wonderful addition to a pointer or houndy savvy family. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in ... (Read More)CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable.     Klaus is a very handsome large solid black male. He came to me over a year ago. He has become increasingly aggressive during this time. I can no longer keep him due to this aggressive behavior. I am the only one who can be around him at this time, but when he first came he was good with everyone. I would need vet references from anyone wanting him and these references may change the adoption fee. He needs to be placed with a strong male figure with experience in handling aggressive dogs. I really don't want to see him go, but it is best for all concerned at this time.

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-24-00300Lightning (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Lightning. I'm about 1 year old and I weigh about 55 lbs. I was found as a stray ans I was picked up by the pound. I wasn't claimed by my owner and the pound doesn't know who owned me, so I am now looking for a new family. I am a really sweet, wonderful dog. I am very happy, friendly and affectionate with all of the people I have been around since I came into the pound. I am good with some, but not all other dogs, so if you have another dog, please be sure to bring them to meet me before you decide to adopt me just to make sure we get along. I get along pretty well with most females and males as long as they aren't ... (Read More)dominant. I am a gret boy inside. I keep my kennel clean at night and I am good inside so it seems that I was likely a house dog. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. Hi I'm Tulip! I'm a sweetie and love to make new friends. I'm housetrained and good with kids! I'm still considered a puppy at almost 1yr old. My owners never came to reclaim me, so I need a new home that will cherish me. I'd love to meet you! Please, consider opening your heart and home to me before my time runs out here. Visit the shelter website for another picture of me, of course meeting me in person is what I really want. Be my miracle. This is what the shelter has to say about me: I am housetrained, good with kids, and not good with cats. Tulip came in stray and was looking to see if her owners reclaim her. She was unfortunately never ... (Read More)reclaimed by an owner so she is now available for adoption! Tulip is about a year old so she still has some puppy left in her. She is very sweet but has plenty of energy to go for long walks and then lounge on the couch with you to watch a good movie. Tulip has recently around numerous children ranging from the ages of 10 to 18 and did very well! She soaked up all the attention and even made a couple new friends. This gal is looking for her loving forever home, if that could be you, stop in and ask to meet her today! (Less)

Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello, my name is Joey and I am a 2-year-old Dachshund/Basenji mix (at least that is the best guess of my foster mom). Because I have Dachshund as well as Basenji in me, I both bark and yodel/howl. Mostly I am quiet, but once in a while I let out a bark. My foster mom says I am a very good, friendly boy who is a ton of fun in a little package. I have lots of energy, but also love to curl up on the couch at the end of the day for a cuddle. While I have not been around kids much, she thinks I would love to have an older one or two to play with me and teach me games. I get along very well with my foster sister dog and do not chase the ... (Read More)resident cats. I am starting to learn my obedience and already know come and sit. I am a smart boy who just needs a fun loving forever home to call my own. Could that be you? If you have any other questions, please get in touch with my foster home. I can't wait to go home! If you have any questions, please contact the foster home at the link found at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Dogs_Joey1714.html. Fill out an application if you are interested in adopting this pup - you can find those at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Applications.html. (Email the foster home and let them know you applied so they can be sure the application is received!) Joey just can't wait to find a forever home! Thanks!!! (Less)

We adopted this cutie in October from a women who could no longer care for him. He is obedient and house broken and comes with food, crate and his toys. He has no current health issues but is very frightened by our daughter. We have found out over time that he would be best in a home without children. He will walk with you without a leash and knows all the basic tricks. He enjoys car rides very much and is crate trained. This little guy probably weighs seven pounds tops and also loves to be carried around. A great purse or lap dog!

Australian Shepherd    Age: Adult

Mack is a 9 year old (Handsome!) male Black-Tri Australian Shepherd looking for his forever home. The freckles are just an added bonus. He is very polite and smart and loves toys, long walks, belly rubs and cuddling. He is super sweet and loving in his 65 lb wiggly frame. He's got some weight to lose, but he carries it well and is quite handsome at any size. He should weigh closer to 55 lbs with a little exercise and meal portioning (and a few less treats!). Mack wants his very own family to love, adore and be loyal to. He's a little selfish that way. He wiggles up to everyone he meets. Mack will do best in a home with no other pets and ... (Read More)older children (He could accidently knock over small children). He was not well socialized with dogs and cats at an early age. So now at the age of 9, he's only recently been introduced to dogs and cats. He likes to meet dogs when out on walks -- He just does not understand what it means to share. When it comes to food, treats and water ... Mack wants it all to himself. That's when he wants to throw his weight around. He has no idea his size alone will intimidate another dog. Mack lost his last home of 9 years when they got a new puppy and sent Mack packing. He deserves so much better than that. With his foster home - he's been learning to behave well with dogs but when things don't go his way - he's just not nice, so ARPH wants to make sure he isn't stressed and can live in a loving environment where he's the center of attention with all his own toys and treats. He will be your best buddy and friend all the days of his life. (Less)

Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough.     Meet Gidget. Gidget is a 9-month-old Morkie. She enjoys meeting everyone. . . dogs, cats, men, women, and children. Gidget is a gentle soul who had a leg injury prior to being surrendered by her owners. The vet felt surgery would correct the problem, but Gidget will need time to trust that the leg won't hurt when she uses it. She is currently doing very well in therapy. Therapy consists of long walks, swimming, and massage. The kennel is good for Gidget because she is still a puppy. Her foster home wouldn't trust her to run the entire house because she could get into trouble. They have a rather large area for her to roam, but when ... (Read More)they aren't home, she stays in her kennel. She is happy there and goes to the kennel to nap. That's a good thing. Gidget is learning basic commands and to walk on a leash. She is super smart and learns quickly. During her walks, her foster mom has learned that Gidget is afraid to walk near sewer drains so they are avoided to keep her focused on learning and to help her feel safe. If Gidget needs to potty she'll let you know, but take her out right away because she can't wait! She has excellent house manners, barks only when someone comes to the door, and is so happy to greet anyone who enters the home. Gidget is definitely not a guard dog. If you have any questions, please contact the foster home at the link found at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Dogs_Gidget1715.html. Fill out an application if you are interested in adopting this pup - you can find those at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Applications.html. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-19-00619Bo (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello, my name is Beauregard but my family and friends call me 'Bo'. My age is around 18 months. I have had all my shots including Proheart for heart-worms. I have also been neutered. I am a mixed breed of lab, as one can tell by my webbed feet and love of water and people. Some also say I have boxer and pit bull as well. Some of the things I love besides water and people are long walks and running off leash in the woods. I am really good while in the woods, I run ahead and all around but don't get too far ahead of my owners and if I do, I will wait for them to catch up with me or I will run back to them. I am good and have never run off ... (Read More)when in the woods. Once I kicked up several deer and chased them for a short distance and then came right back to my owners. I enjoy playing tug-a-war and chewing on my strong chew toys. I am still learning new commands. I can sit and shake on command. I love people so much that when I see them I tend to jump up on them. This is an area that I still need training in. I can be vocal by trying to talk to you but I am not a barker when outside playing. I am also house-broken and crate trained. I sleep in my crate at night and also when my owners are away. I eat twice a day; at 7:00 am and at 4:30 pm. When I settle down for the evening I like to lay with my lady owner with my head in her lap until it is time for bed. Once I am in bed (my crate) I am down for the whole night. I am a good dog. I do have a lot of energy, very playful, and I am still learning; however, my owners are seniors and don't have the energy that I have. For that reason, they love me so much and want the best for me, that they are putting me up for adoption in hopes of finding a good family and home with the same energy level as me. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-19-00612Bailey (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: High Energy
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I am a Great Pyrenees and Australian shepherd mix. I am about 8 months old, will be 9 months in May of 2017. I am up-to-date on shots until December. I know 'sit', 'go lay down', 'off', and I am currently working on 'down'. I tug on the leash when you first start walking me, but I do calm down within 3-5 minutes. If we are hiking I don't require a leash. (: I come always come back if my name is called 3 times in a row. I love animals and people of all shapes and sizes, and gender! I am a HUGE cuddler! I weigh about 40-45 pounds. I have been told I am very loveable. I have a welcoming heart, but I am timid with loud voices and arm raising ... (Read More)(even if you're just picking up your phone, I might duck a little). I get excited and happy very fast, and I am very forgiving. I would prefer to be in a one-dog home, with that dog being me. I am very clingy to my owner, I am just searching for someone to love me and my clinginess for cuddles and attention. OH MY DO I LOVE FOOD. I can eat a lot, so I have been advised to watch how many times I eat a day. The only cons I have been told I have is my 'excitement' pee, so I must be let out as soon as you get home if you don't want me to dribble on your floors, other than that I am potty-trained. I love to drink out of the toilet if you leave the lid up'|the water seems to always be colder. Along with as I said before, I DO LOVE FOOD'| so I have a begging problem but if you tell me to go lay down I will beg from afar. I do get nervous if nobody is home, so I get kenneled during that time. I am a great and loving puppy, I just want my forever home and affection.     Bella is a female Rott, she is 7 years old and comes from a loving home. Bells was micro chipped when we got her, we have her chip and AKC number. We got her at 6 weeks old from a breeder. Our kids were 16 and 17 when we got her and she has been wonderful with them and with me and my husband. She really hasn't been around young children and when there was young children in the home she became a little anxious, at times we had to put her in her cage to calm her down. She has never attempted to bite and has never been aggressive. She was raised with another female dog in the home that was 8 years old, for the most part they got along however ... (Read More)Bella at times became consumed every time the other dog (part Rott/part Sheppard) would get up, or would get attention from family members. Bella loves to snuggle, at times she acts like a lap dog who wants to be paid attention to. She loves her cage and although we never locked her in her cage she retreats to it throughout the day and night - as well as sleeps in it or in her fluffy dog bed. It seems as if mild arthritis may be setting in her hip, not too bad (mild) as of now. She is completely potty trained and could stand to lose a little weight. She is up to date on her shots and vaccines. We feed her Blue Large Breed Healthy Weight dog food, as the vet says she can stand to lose a few pounds. She is an awesome dog and a loyal companion. We will only accept those who are true dog lovers and have knowledge of Rotts. Bella needs a good home, her best friend our other dog) was just put down and we can tell she is needing some extra TLC. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-17-00519Nora (female)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Nora is a Pitsky, a Siberian Husky and Pitbull mix. She got hit by a car a few months ago and damaged both growth plates in her back legs. She has healed partially and gets around just fine on her own now. She walks and runs on all her legs but the back ones don't bend right, so she just looks a little funny when she does it. She needs to be lifted into the car and cannot walk up stairs. We have spent a lot on her medical bills and want to make sure she finds a loving home. She is a very sweet dog and is potty trained and comes when called. She does not get along well with cats though, and we have quite a few so we can't keep her sadly. She ... Would love for her to have a home with kids or another dog. She will come with heart worm and flea and tick pills. (Less)

Australian Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Bear has been with us since he was a puppy. We live on a farm and he has lots of opportunities to run and play. He has been to puppy class, and can sit, stay, come, and walks well on a leash. He is crate and house trained. He is highly protective of the adults in the family, but tries to herd children when playing. We have had to keep him leashed or crated whenever we have guests to our house for the first time. After a few visits, he tends to settle down with them. He plays aggressively, and that makes him difficult to be around other dogs. We had one other aussie that he would run and play with, but he still protected 'his space' ... (Read More)while in the house. New children visiting our house are a real trigger for Bear. It is difficult to keep him on the leash or distract him when a strange child comes to the house. Our kids would like to have friends come to our house, but they can't because Bear scares them. We are hoping someone will be in a better situation to keep Bear, as he is a good companion when we are just hanging out, or playing with him. (Less)

Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to ... (Read More)increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Abused/Neglected

This is Rosie. She was scheduled to be euthanized so I took her in to get a good home. She has been spayed, chipped and immunized. She needs a home with a fenced yard. She is smart. She sits, shakes and lays down on command. She is potty trained and crate trained. Her only behavior problems is she will dig in the yard if she is bored, she jumps on you when she gets excited and she will take you for a walk with a leash. She needs a dog friend to play with. I think the behaviors she has is due to boredom and just wanting attention. She is around my young grandchildren and she is NOT aggressive. I have a 13 year old cat and my cat ... She needs a home with younger people who can work with her on the leash and jumping. But most importantly she needs another dog to play with because she is very social. If this fits you, please call me. She is waiting for a good home. (Less)

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] Hi! I'm Luther. I am a 5 year old, vaccinated, neutered, male yellow lab that's looking for a chance to show I am a good boy even though I do have some quirks and complexes. I have to take a lot of medication to get by in my days, I have a lot of anxiety without them and I need someone that can spend a lot of time with me and not mind how much attention I require. I'm very nervous, but I do have a lot of love for the people I am closest with, they soothe me by petting me and playing fetch with me. I need somewhere that I can run in a fenced in yard, chase a ball, and that I don't have to share my owner with any ... (Read More)other pets or kids because I just can't quite trust myself when I'm overly excited. I have messed up a couple times and gotten overly nervous and nipped at people because I just didn't know what to do with all my energy. I didn't mean to scare them or hurt them, I just didn't know what to do with myself! My first owner gave me away because they didn't have the time for my issues, and now my foster mommy just had a baby and I will get jealous. So if you have a lot of love and patience to give, and don't have kids over, or have any other pets, I would love to try to find my forever home with you (Less)

Hello. My name is Pax. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 70 lbs. I was surrendered to the pound by my owner because he moved and couldn't take me with him where he moved to. I'm a very, very nice dog. I am still young, active and playful but I am past the crazy puppy stage. I have lived with and have done wonderful with children, cats and other dogs according to my previous owner. I have been great with other dogs here at the pound, as well as all of the people I have met. I am also housebroken and do great in the house according to my previous owner. The only 'bad' thing about me to mention is that I am just so dang strong. I ... (Read More)will need a new family that will be able to control me, otherwise I am a fabulous boy! If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me! Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. Our immediate problem is that he hates cats (and small animals) and after a year of living here he has discovered that my parents have a cat liing downstairs (we have an 'in-law suite'). We have always just kept the door shut to keep the house areas separate, but now that he knows there is a cat he is obsessed and has already hurt the cat once.     Storm is a very loving animal once your trust has been earned. He obeys commands such as sit, shake, high five, and speak. and when he wants to, he stays lol. I obtained him through a facebook ad three years ago. The owners had moved out and left him for dead, tied to a tree with no shade or water for over 30 days. People had been throwing him scraps and pushing a water bowl to him, hence making him an 'opportunity' eater, which took time, patience and diligence to break. The added no contact with humans, watching his owners drive away and never returning, has taken a tole on him; all I had was time. Further discovery would show even more ... (Read More)horrors that no animal should endure. Checking his teeth it was discoverd that his canines had been broken off and dew claws ripped out, so he could not defend himself or eat. He is very fearfull other dogs, I cannot seem to break this cycle. Humans, he picks and choses who he likes and dislikes. WHen he is on lead, no one can get near you that he doesnt know. In your home, he likes everyone, usually. Once in a while he has an attitude, fearful so i cannot help but wonder if it isnt something with his past. The previous owners, who are unknown to me, were painted as terrible people by the land lady, whom I will respect her identity, for it was she who cried out for help for this beautiful creature. I seen his face and heard his story and immediately set out to pick him up. She asked for no rehoming fee, so I was a little daunted when pulling up at the rest stop to pick him up at our agreed meeting place and time. Attached to a log chain, was a very emaciated, dehydrated and scared little boxer, whose eyes gazed in wonderment as if asking are you going to help me? I got out of my truck, taking with my a couple friends for insite and judgement. They said my opinion of him was dead on. I knelt at his feet, gazed into his big brown eyes and could see all the worry, hurt and pain as he watched everyone around him. Storm is a good boy, just has some issues that come with him. He is unsocialized for the most part, has never been around children so temperment is unknown, he doesnt know how big he is!!! He deserves to live a happy life, no matter his short comings. We are in a place in our lives that, well he needs room to run and chase his tennis balls, squirrels and bark anytime he wants. I believe I have went as far in training as I can, just being me. Can you give him his forever home? He demands your attention lol at all times. (Less)
