Dachshund Mix

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Blind

We found this little guy on the street late night on 8/26. We are grateful we did because he is blind in his right eye and if he had gone to the main road there was a good chance he would have been hit. As Mich as we would love to keep him, I am being induced to have my daughter Monday night. We are a low income family with two dogs and two cats of our own. He needs to be evaluated for his eye, he also has fleas that we are trying to rid of. He doesn't have many teeth, but he has a major underbite. This is one of the sweetest dogs I have met, but it is in his best interest to go to a home that can give him the care he needs. He's pretty ... Please help give this special guy a home, he deserves to live a happy, healthy life that I only wish I could provide him. (Less)

My name is Gendel and I am a 2 year old pit lab mix (well, my birthday is Sept 1, so I'm almost 2). I love playing with my 2 kids who are 9 and 11 years old. I play with my people and go on walks. I like to chase the geese at the pond near my foster home and I love to keep the bunnies, birds and squirrels out of the yard! I live with 2 cats. They don't want to play with me, but we get along ok. I do love dogs of all sizes! I am pretty well trained with basic commands and am crate trained. My favorite toys are rope toys (for tug of course!) and plastic flower pots (I can throw these around and they make lots of noise!). I like to sit on the ... Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make ... (Read More)up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

(Less)

Togo is our beloved German Shepherd we got from a breeder 6 years ago as a puppy. He has been a wonderful part of our family and has been so loving and gentle with our little children. Unfortunately we recently discovered my oldest daughter has allergies and we are no longer able to keep him in our home. Fox Terrier    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello there! My name is Billie Jean. I am a female Toy Fox Terrier sweetheart estimated at 2-3 years old. I weigh only 5 lbs and am quite petite. I am white in color with lots of black spots. I arrived into Puppy Pals Rescue when they were contacted by our member in KY that I needed a home. I have been spayed, have received all my shots, have been heartworm and fecal tested (results negative) and will be micro-chipped before adoption. I am a real love bug, a cuddler, a kisser, and a wonderful little girl. I love to sleep in bed with you under the covers (although I will, and have, stayed in a crate). I prefer to sleep with ... (Read More)you though. I love to get under the covers all the way to the end by your feet. When you're watching TV, I love to cuddle up next to you or take a nap on the back of the couch where I can look out the window and bark at the squirrels and birds. I am working on my house-training. I'm not perfect, but doing much better than when I first arrived in my foster home. I'm about 90% there! I get along with the other dogs here and have designated myself as the puppy-sitter to a litter of pups we have at my foster home. When their mom goes outside, I will lay next to the xpen and watch the puppies so they don't get into trouble. They all look like me and I easily blend in with them. I love to go on car rides and on walks on the leash. I like to sit in the glider swing in the backyard with my foster mom and watch all the birds and see all the dogs chase one another. I enjoy life. I love to eat too! My foster mom can't believe how much I eat and asks how I stay so thin! My ideal home would be with an older couple or a single person who might be home with me all day. I'm not built to be an active family dog who is going to enjoy running after small children. I'm too small for children under 8 years old - I can be easily injured if dropped or stepped on. A fenced-in yard would be nice, but in my case might not be necessary if you are able to walk me and take me outside to potty during all seasons. My foster mom will be very selective in my placement due to my size and needs. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email her at the link below! If you have any questions please contact my foster mom at the link found at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Dogs_BillieJean1665.html Fill out an application if you are interested in adopting me - you can find those at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Applications.html (Email my foster home and let them know you applied so they can be sure the application is received!) I just can't wait to find a forever home! Thanks!!! (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Everything is fun and an adventure in Ruby's world. She wants to learn all that humans and other dogs have to teach her, but is still puppy enough that she has no concept of slowing down when she runs to greet you because she's just! so! happy! you are there! She checks all of the boxes: potty trained, is good with other dogs and cats, knows 'sit,' and loves to cuddle. She will need a walk every day, plenty of play time, but will be on your lap every night. Ruby is devoted to her humans and has no interest right now in running or chasing anything outside of the yard; however, she is still a puppy--rambunctious, dislikes her crate but is ... (Read More)learning that it is safe, has to be taken outside often as she is still a puppy, and does need to learn more commands and how to properly walk on a leash for walks. There should be ZERO problems with kids in general, but she is a puppy who is currently in the jumping stage right now so should be watched with kids. She will be the ideal dog-a basic training class and plenty of positive reinforcement is all she needs to become the dog with the perfect temperament and personality that every family dreams of. birthday: March 2016 adoption fee: $200 (Less)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello, my name is O'Dell. I am a sweet male pup between 1 and 2 years old. I am a mix of long-haired Chihuahua and possibly Pomeranian. I am white in color with tan markings. I have red eyes and weigh 12.5 lbs. I am a well-adjusted and well-behaved small breed dog. I listen when I'm spoken to and come when called. I am an overall wonderful companion. I came into Puppy Pals Rescue when my foster parents did a local shelter run in the Dayton, Ohio area. I appeared to be fearful and needed to get out of there fast. I was 'sprung' and it's been great. I have been neutered, updated on all of my shots, heartworm and fecal ... (Read More)tested (results negative) and micro-chipped. I am 100% crate and house-trained. I don't tell you that I have to go out - I just need you to let me out often. I get along with all the dogs at my foster home and there are lots of them. I love to go outside in the back yard and play tag with Missy and a few others. There are also some little puppies that were born and I have been very gentle with them when they are getting their exercise in the yard. I love to nap on the back of the chair, but am willing to go into my crate at night to sleep. If you show me the leash, I get very excited. I love to go in the car and take a walk. My walking on the leash is getting better - I have a tendency to pull a little. My ideal home would be one with no children under the age of 8, that has a nice fenced in yard, and enjoys taking me along on family outings. I also would make a wonderful dog for an older single person. I'm not a real barker so possibly a condo or an apartment which allows dogs might be an option for me. My foster mom is looking for a forever home which will provide me continued medical care and plenty of love and attention that I demand and deserve. I have been told that I'm one of the best and most perfect foster dogs that have come into PPR. If you have any questions, please contact my foster home at the link below. Animal ID: PPR16-67Charlie (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi! My name is Charlie. I am described as a Chihuahua Mix - some say that I have Italian Greyhound in me due to the length of my legs and thin stature. I'm only 9 months old. I weigh 10.8 lbs. I am tan in color with two front white legs. I am quite handsome when I'm prancing in the yard. I came into Puppy Pals Rescue when I was listed on Craigslist. My owners stated that they were having to move into an apartment which didn't allow dogs. I was not neutered at the time and this bothered my foster mom so she contacted the family and purchased me. She then gave me to Puppy Pals Rescue to provide for my needs and find me a forever home. PPR ... (Read More)didn't want me to become a breeder and rescued me from that fate. Since I've come to Puppy Pals I have been neutered, have received all my shots, have been heartworm and fecal tested (results negative) and have been micro-chipped. I had a hard time leaving my incision alone so I had to wear the 'cone of shame' for a week which I dreaded. I am a terrific dog and always happy to see you. I spent my earlier months as a puppy growing up with 3 small children, other dogs, and cats. I think that I would be fine once again with children and other pets. I love to run out in the yard and play chase. I have the advantage with these long legs, but some of these tiny guys can give me a challenge! My ideal 'forever' home would be one with at least one other dog and several active children to chase me around and play with toys. I love to run so a fenced-in yard would be preferred. I would love to visit a dog park and release some of my puppy energy. I do have my moments when I love to snuggle on the couch and act like a little tiny dog. I love to give kisses. Although I am a good boy, it might be a good idea to take me to a basic dog training class to learn commands and become an excellent companion. I possibly might be a good match for an active single person who likes to run or take long walks. I'm not so good in my crate at times - I cry so I'm not so sure how I would do in an apartment where I could bother other people? I just love to be with people. I'm a very social young dog who just wants to be where the action is! I love rides in the car and going on walks. I am 100% house-trained. I have only had two accidents and that was when I was new to my foster home (which was a while ago). If you are looking for a nice family dog (and not so much concerned about having a purebred dog), I'm your furbaby! The name is Charlie'| I'm young, active, and looking for love! If you have questions or would like to meet the dog featured on this page, please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, ... (Read More)OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. (Less)

Mastiff    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Female Dogs Only, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Lucas is a stunning 18 month old Cane Corso mastiff. He will be a wonderful companion for the adopter that is experienced with the breed and their traits. Lucas is an 'alpha' male and is learning socialization. He knows basic commands and will perform them for a reward. He has mild food/resource guarding but is easily re-directed. We will only consider homes that have no children under teens and adopters who have owned and are very familiar with the breed. Lucas is 110 pounds and has a longer docked tail. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Katana, also know as Ms. Perfect! This girl is absolutely stunning in person. She is well mannered, knows sit, catches treats, and listens well. She is very attentive and takes direction well. She does the sillies little zoomies we've seen. She will make a great companion! 64 lbs. 2 years old. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. ... (Read More)Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. (Less)

****URGENT. FOSTER OR ADOPTER NEEDED!!!! This cutie is Tucker. He is about 5 or 6 years old fully vaccinated and neutered about 70 lbs and has been with the same family since he was a puppy. He is in VERY urgent need of a new home. He is dog, cat and kid friendly. I spent an hour talking to his owner (mom) so trying to condense this into few sentences it's going to be difficult. Basically Tucker appears to have something medical going on that has not been able to be diagnosed by a Country Vet (I'm not a vet but symptoms much like Cushing's except he tested negative for it) and is having some anxiety issues (tried prozac... didn't help) that ... (Read More)have now become extremely problematic for the family. He was very fortunate that the shelter was closed today but he will be returning there on Monday unless something miraculous happens (as per dad) This would likely be worse than euthanasia for Tucker which is also an option being considered. I presented an entire list of possible strategies for Tucker and I also learned that they have tried a long list of things to improve his situation that have been ineffective. His quality of life is fair to poor and the situation must change quickly. If you are able to take him in, spend significant time with him and get him to a vet with some higher level skill and want to help Tucker please pm me ASAP A second vet visit may be scheduled by the family (mom) but dad is at the end of his level of tolerance for the situation and Tucker needs help ....like yesterday. Please share everywhere!!!!! Location Marietta OH Transport is available. ADOPTION FEE MAY BE WAIVED FOR THE RIGHT FAMILY. (Less)

Very, very sweet and loving girl. I found her running around in the middle of traffic. She was not nervous and is actually very affectionate. She clearly had a home at one point because she knows commands like sit and stay but that home did not treat her well. Her legs seem to hurt her. She is very dirty, has fleas and her hind legs seem to bother her a little. She looks as though she recently had a liter. Please help, she needs a very good home!     HI THERE, I'm Krya! I am a high energy, sweet girl that is in LOVE with life! A few of my favorite things here at the adoption center are walks, the kiddie pool, and hanging out with the humans. In fact, I love hanging out with them so much, that I have learned this trick to make my body turn into a spaghetti noodle when they want me to go back in my cage.. it's pretty hilarious! Luckily, I am little and they can just pick me up and place me inside :) I am sure that if my kennel had a toy or blanket in it, I wouldn't mind going in! I have heard word that the volunteers are trying to raise some money to upgrade this place... and I can see ... (Read More)why! Anyway, come and meet me! Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

New to OCDRT on 8/20/2016 from a northern Kentucky Shelter. Kaluah is being fostered in Columbus, Ohio. Kaluah was born on 9/1/2012, so she will celebrate her 4th birthday in a little over a week. She was spayed on 8/17 & a minor mammary mass was removed also. She is HW negative & current on vaccines. We will finish her vetting over the next 2 - 3 weeks. Kaluah introduced well into her foster pack of two older male ACD's and a GSD/Lab mix. She really wanted to be invisible, but was polite, and got through all of nosy hello's. When leaving the shelter, she walked right by two resident shelter kitties, and had no reaction. We will cat ... (Read More)test her here, in a week or so. Kaluah did not know what a leash was. She does now, and is doing great in this short time. She likes her crate and sleeps quietly all night, and accident free. Kaluah will be on a long lead for about 10 days until her stitches are removed from her surgery. We will work on human socialization skills, crate training, foundation skills, walking on a leash, and manners. Please check back for updates as we learn more about Kaluah while undergoing her evaluation.     We found Cam on our porch a few weeks ago. He is a very sweet and loving dog. He is chipped and after researching his owner, his owner is unfortunately deceased. I have taken Cam to the vet, he is up to date with his shots and was neutered as a puppy. He does have a hip injury, but it doesn't really seem to bother him or keep him down. Unfortunately the vet thought he was probably previously abused, which caused the injury. He is staying with me and my 3 young boys now, but unfortunately we cannot keep him long term. He has an excellent temperament around me and the boys and also any visitor that came to our house to meet him. He walks well on the leash. He stays in his crate, but has also been left out in the house for short periods of time and has done fine. I am trying to find a home for him before turning him back over to the SPCA. (Less)

7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. (Less)

American Bulldog    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello. My my name is Chance. I'm a 100+ lb, 4 year old, purebred American Bulldog searching for a new home. A volunteer met someone with me, under the false pretense that I was a stray. When she got there to meet the person with me, she found out that he was actually my owner and he said he was getting rid of me because I was unruly and had too much energy... I have never been trained one bit. I spent my nights in the basement and my days chained up outside. I am big and strong and just exactly what American Bulldogs are. I can be stubborn, but I am smart and I WANT to learn, I just don't know how to. I am food motivated so that will be a ... (Read More)great way to help my new folks to train me. As far as getting along with other dogs, I do good in general. I wouldn't do well with a dominant dog, but I am good with a dog who will submit to me. Sometimes I come on a bit strong at first, but with a good introduction, I usually do great. If you're looking for a sweet, big dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. (Less)

Hi there! My name is Opal, and I found my way here because my owners were not taking care of me. I was found locked in a basement, and was fending for myself for quite awhile. I have actually enjoyed by time here at the adoption center! The volunteers took me to a place called Lucy's Pet Grooming Salon, and now I look and smell beautiful! Although this place is a step-up in my book, I have heard that life on the outside with a nice family is AWESOME. He was a sweetheart from the moment we walked out the door and happily watched the shelter disappear in the distance. He loves car rides, is eager to please and happily gives puppy kisses. As is true with all chihuahuas he loves to cuddle and sleep under the blankets with you at night. He is good with other dogs and children, but has only been cat tested from a distance although they did not seem to phase him. He has a protective nature and would love to have a family of his own to adore and ... (Read More)protect. Is he just what you have been looking for? Rescue Me ID: 16-08-19-00065Nikki (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Nikki. I'm about 1 1/2 years old and I weigh about 40 lbs. When I first came in a little over a year ago, my old owners decided they didn't want me anymore so they put an ad on facebook that someone needed to come get me or they were gonna shoot me!!! Can you believe that?!?!? Anyhow, someone came out and save me from those horrible people but they couldn't keep me either so they had to have the pound get me. I was adopted out when I was 3 months old. I needed a lot of training and I needed to learn my manners. My new owner was just having too much trouble with me so I was recently returned. I do great here at the ... (Read More)pound. I am young and I do have a lot of energy, so I will need a home where I can get a lot of exercise. My old owner said I didn't get along with other dogs either, but I have been great with other dogs since I have been back here at the pound. I LOVE to run around and play with them, and aside from a little humping every now and again, I have been very appropriate when I play. I do still need some training. I need some basic manners still such as no jumping. I am a really sweet girl and with some training and consistency, I am going to make someone a fabulous friend. Oh... and one more thing... I LOVE playing in water!!! If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable.     Hi, I'm Gracie....and I'm sad. I'm sad because my owners brought me to the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center and left me.     My name is Gus and I have been having a harder time than most adjusting to life in a kennel at the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center. Unfamiliar people can scare me a little and make me nervous but once I warm up, I am a completely different boy! I am pretty easy to get in and out of my kennel and walk well on a leash.     I'm Allie! Like so many other dogs at the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center, I have somehow gotten separated from my family! Luckily some wonderful people found me on Bloomfield Road and took me home with them so that I wouldn't get hit by all of the passing cars.     Shaggy here! I'm what you might call 'uniquely adorable' with my big body, tiny, little ears, and scruffy coat! When the wardens found me, I was completely covered in fleas and suffering so much I could barely stand it!     Thurman is the sweetest dog I've ever had. He isn't super vocal which is rare for a hound. He is not an outside dog and being a hunting dog, should never be off leash. He would do best in a home with a fenced in yard. He is smitten with our two year old and we also have a variety of different aged nieces and nephews. He is mostly just curious about cats. Thurman is current on shots and loves to go on walks. Two a day would be perfect but if there is a fenced in yard where he can expend energy, that would be ideal.
