German Shepherd    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Free to a good home, our bestfriend Duke. Duke is a 10 year old well trained german shepard. Sadly we must find him a new home as he has shown signs of aggression to our new born son. He does not do well with other dogs, thus would be best in a home where he is the main man. He loves playing fetch and going for walks and is in great health.

My mother owned this dog and she passed away in May. We have taken him in but is a problem for us as we have 3 other dogs and he is too aggressive for them. He is a very smart and loyal dog and would make someone a good watch dog. He will become attached to one person and will try to protect them from people or other dogs. Would make a good dog for a single woman, who has no other pets. Needs lots of exercise and should go to someone who is familiar with the breed.

Rescue Me ID: 17-06-27-00198Sheeba (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Sheeba. I'm about 5 years old and I weigh about 35 lbs. I was seized by the pound due to neglect issues. I have been vetted and I am now looking for a family to love. Aside from the way I was living, I had a 3 lb mass hanging from my back leg that was effecting the way I walked. I had surgery to remove the mass while I was spayed and I am now doing great. I do have another mass on my front leg. It is completely harmless and as long as it doesn't cause me any trouble there is no need for it to be removed. I am a phenomenally sweet dog with humans of all sizes. I am a great girl. I love car rides and I am a great ... (Read More)passenger. I am a good girl inside and I appear to be housebroken. I will need a home without other pets, though, because I do not get along well with other animals. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable.     Hi there. My name is George. I'm about 6 years old and I weigh about 60 lbs. I am emaciated and I need to gain at least 15 lbs to be back up to a healthy weight. I was found as a stray in the East Palestine area by a garbage company. I was taken to the local police department then picked up by the pound. I am a very sweet and affectionate dog. I love people and I get along well with other dogs. I am a great dog inside and keep my kennel glean at night. It definitely appears that I was a house dog and I seem to be housebroken. Chihuahua    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Neeko is a 9 week old, male, full blooded Chihuahua. Neeko came in to the rescue covered in fleas as well as several sores due to the flea infestation. He has since been bathed and treated for the fleas as well as being put on antibiotics for the sores. Neeko has started to heal nicely and the hair lost due to the fleas has begun to grow back. Neeko is a little fellow and will stay very small. Because of his size and the likelihood of him staying under 3lbs, our vet recommends waiting on his neuter until 6 months of age. For this reason Neeko has not yet been neutered and will be a requirement for his new family at 6 months of age. Agreement ...     Meet Brody, approx. 5 yr. old, 20 lbs., chi x. COPR took him into rescue because his owner passed away. We want to thank our friends at One By One Animal Advocates & Laura's Lost Pet Services, Inc., for their part in saving this poor soul. You can read his incredibly story here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.373293723063174 Comments from his foster mom: He is not comfortable in the car. He should be harnessed or in a crate as he tends to run around the car and will want to bolt out as soon as a door is open. He hasn't been socialized that much, so he is a little shy, but I think he will work through that as he gets more ... (Read More)comfortable and confident. He is so sweet and snuggly, but because of his background, he will need an owner that will be sensitive to his fears and will work to socialize him. He gets along with other dogs, but does get a little possessive of his owner and likes to have the attention on him. He can be playful, but would be best in a house with low-key dogs. He has so much love to give, he loves to jump on my lap and give me kisses. Someone is going to be so lucky to get this guy in their life! In foster care in Lakewood, OH. Public hours are Monday through ... (Read More)Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

(Less)

Beagle Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Needs Vaccinations, Arthritis, Deaf, Aggressive

Zoie is a real sweetheart. Loves people and loves to go on walks. Takes meds for her arthritis. She would be perfect for an older person who would love her. She has attacked other dogs and cats. But is perfect in a only dog situation. We had another dog when she was adopted as a puppy and she attacked her every once in a while. She would attack our one cat. She gets jealous of the 2 cats we have and barks once and the cats run. She just attacked our daughters dog. Most people have no idea she is,that way as she is always so sweet.

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults

Snipps is a retiring sled dog. He has arthritis in his lumbar spine. Due to his arthritis he has difficulty running longer distances. He is an active dog and would do best in an active home ie: runner, mountain biker, etc. He gets along well with male and female dogs, does well with kids. He has not been around cats however does have a prey drive. He has been primarily an outside dog. He is house trained however would need to be touched up on it. He is neutered, UTD on vaccines, and besides arthritis is an overall healthy dog. Fenced yard preferred. Prefer local adoption, maximum of 4hr drive depending on the correct home.

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Prim. I'm about 10 months old and I weigh about 30 lbs. My friends and I were seized from an extremely neglectful owner. I was very thin, though not yet quite as skinny as two of the other puppies who were skeletal. After about a week of some good food, I am just about where I should be weight wise. I am a super duper sweet, loving an affectionnate little girl. I love love love people of all sizes. I love to cuddle and give kisses. I get along great with other dogs too and I love to play. I have always lived inside but I will likely need some work with housebreaking. If you're looking for a sweet and loving dog to add ... (Read More)to your family, please consider adopting me. Lola is very loving fun dog. She loves car rides and walks. She loves to go to the cabin and can't get enough of being with kids and her family. I have changed jobs and I am moving so Lola is being left alone for extended periods of time which is not her nature. She misses people and I do not want her living like this. She had her last dental in December and has been a very healthy dog. When I have babysat numerous dogs she has always been great with them but she has shown food aggression so I always feed her alone.

Animal ID: PPR17-34Lulu (female)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

LuLu is an estimated two-year-old, 10-lb, Chihuahua-mix that arrived to Puppy Pals Rescue as an owner surrender from Kentucky. The owner had too many dogs and the Kentucky shelter was going to take the dogs to the shelter but Russ, Linda, and Lisa rescued four of them for Puppy Pals Rescue. LuLu can be best described as a laid back, tail wagging, sweet and affectionate little lady that likes to talk. All foster dogs have a cute trait and little LuLu seems to like to strike up a conversation with you. She loves to get on your lap, look you in the eyes and start making soft noises like she is talking. Wish I could understand what she is ... (Read More)trying to say. Little LuLu lived outside and it does look like she has had puppies in the past. The first two days she arrived here at her foster home she just stayed in her bed and watched what was going on. After the two days, she was up and about and exploring her new surroundings. Surprisingly, she was potty trained easily. She had a few slip ups the first couple of days but since then none. She goes out to potty every three hours. She is crated at night and has never soiled her crate. When she wakes up in the morning she is one happy girl and starts talking to you and wagging her tail. She is ready to get out and about. She will bark but not much. She will watch the cat that lives in the house with her but she has never tried to chase it. Oh, and like some dogs, she does try to get to the cat food and eat it. Cat food must be a tasty treat for dogs because a lot of dogs love to steal the cat food from the cat. She will play with soft toys but will give it up if another dog comes to get it without any problems. She is submissive. She currently lives with three small chihuahuas and gets along with them. She does not like to share her food with other dogs though. LuLu is current on all her immunizations, has been spayed, heart worm tested negative, given drontal as a worm preventive, up to date on her heartworm and flea prevention, and has been examined by a Vet. No problems were detected by the Veterinarian. LuLu is a pretty girl with beautiful golden brown eyes who is looking for a forever home. She will require a fenced yard. She would make some single person or retired person a great companion for sure. In fact, she would make a good family pet. If you have any questions, please contact the foster home at the link found at http://www.puppypalsrescue.com/Dogs_Lulu1734.html. Fill out an application if you are interested in adopting this pup - you can find those at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Applications.html. (Email the foster home and let them know you applied so they can be sure the application is received!) Lulu just can't wait to find a forever home! Thanks!!! (Less)

If you have questions or would like to meet the dog featured on this page, please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. (Less)

All of our rescued dogs have been on a nutritional regime which includes high quality food and ... (Read More)supplements (ex., probiotics; vitamins, etc). Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello. My name is Jett. I'm about 3 years old and I weigh about 35 lbs. I was seized by the pound due to extreme neglect that was happening at my home to the dogs. 3 of my friends were emaciated andI had a large patch of missing skin that was infected and had to be treated by a vet. Our owner was completely out of dog food and said she had been feeding us oatmeal, though the 3 pups didn't look to have been eating anything for quite sometime. I am a very very sweet and loving dog. I am a pretty calm and well mannered boy. I love people and I get along well with other dogs. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please ... (Read More)consider adopting me. Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Brie was a rescue from a rural shelter. We believe her to be a few years old and a boxer mix. She was extremely emaciated and had a neck injury when we got her. She is timid but very sweet. Brie has learned so many great things in her foster home. She does well with other dogs. She is now spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative. Her neck injury is almost healed. She is a fantastic dog and will make a great dog for a loving family. Brie's adoption fee is $200 and you can fill out an application for her on our website at www.pawpatroldayton.com/adoptable-dogs.All of our animals are vaccinated, micro-chipped and ... Rescue Me ID: 17-06-15-00300Luna (female)

Papillon Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Little Luna as she is affectionately referred to. We pulled this super scared little dog out of a shelter a few weeks ago. We believe she is 8-10 years old and a papillion/chihuahua mix. Luna has been staying with a very loving patient foster who has been working hard to bring Luna out of her shell. She has found that Luna loves to take a walk! She will easily walk a mile a day and would walk even more if she could. Luna has an extreme fear of hands coming towards her. She is currently working with our behavior consultant to help her work through her fears and bring this adorable little girl out of her shell. We do know Luna loves dogs ... (Read More)and feels very comfortable with them. Luna will need to be adopted to a home with another dog. It is not suggested that Luna live in a home with small children as she does want to nip if someone tries to pet her when she's not ready. Luna is housetrained! She prefers to go outside and will hold it all night waiting to go outside.Update 6/8/17-Luna is officially up for adoption! Luna is doing well in her foster home. She has learned to enjoy being a dog. She runs in the yard, sniffs around, chews on bones, and likes to rub and wiggle on her back. She still does not play with dogs, toys, or people. She follows her foster mom everywhere and loves to be with her. She is happy to let her foster mom reach down and pet her. She is being taught sit and threshold control. She will get in the car willingly provided her foster mom is going along. She has learned to rest quietly and comfortably in her crate while her foster mom is gone or even if she is home. She is mostly house trained with the occasional accident on a rug, because she was trained with pee pads in her first foster home. A rug is the closest thing she can find to a pee pad. However, she still does not like to be picked up, she still does not enjoy being petted while being held, and she does not get on the furniture to sit with her people or snuggle with them. Luna does still get frightened and jumpy even with her foster mom. She's recovering from this fear more quickly, but it is still there. She still stresses at new things but she is recovering faster than she used to. Luna does still have some separation anxiety from her foster mom. Although Luna is up for adoption she will not change homes easily. She will need to continue training and socializing for many months, a year, or possibly the rest of her life. If Luna does not receive this continued training and socializing she will regress back into her severe fearful state. Without this continued training & socializing, the confidence she has built will revert back to fear. She will be considered a special needs adoption. She will have added requirements for adopters to meet before being approved. Her adoption process will take added time and any applicants need to be prepared to be patient during the process. Luna does have requirements. For more information on Luna please contact Pawpatroldayton.com (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-06-15-00283Norman (male)

Corgi    Age: Adult

Health: Vaccinations Current

Norman is a wonderful old man who came to us from the county shelter. He does have limited vision and hearing due to old age, but he can hear and see well enough to get around just fine. In addition, Norman does have arthritis and neuropathy in his rear legs. He can walk pretty well, but sometimes it takes him a minute to get up. However.....we have discovered a couple of wonderful things that help his condition immensely that his adopter will be required to continue after adoption - those include acupuncture and CBD hemp oil (glucosamine helps, as well). He is as sweet as they come and he LOVES belly rubs. He doesn't mind other dogs or ... (Read More)cats, but he is a little too sophisticated and mature to play with them ;) Norman is listed as no small children because of his age and ailments we don't think small children is a good idea. Norman is neutered, heartworm negative, and will be vaccinated and microchipped upon his adoption. His adoption fee is $125 and you can fill out an application for him at www.pawpatroldayton.com/adoptable-dogs.All of our animals are vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered before being adopted. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed

My husband and I are currently trying to re-home our pit bull and pit bull mix. Because of a job change and move we are in the process of selling our house, but will not be able to get another mortgage for two years. We have been searching for a rental situation that would allow us to keep both dogs, but because of size and breed we have been unable to. Needless to say, it is very disappointing. Styx also has some lab in her. She does not look particularly pit like though her mom was a full pit. We got her at about a year old and she was not well socialized prior to that so she is VERY shy with strangers. We have worked on it a ton (she was ... (Read More)so shy at first that she would not even come to our children- now she loves them). She is seriously the sweetest dog ever. She is super mellow. Pretty much never barks, jumps, etc. but is very affectionate (licking, putting her head in your lap, laying in the floor by the kids). She does reasonably well on leash, but because she is timid around strangers, she is quick to pull if someone walks by or approaches. She will let us know if she needs to go out, but she is NOT trustworthy left out when you leave the house because she loves to chew. Currently she is very attached to our other dog, River. She will follow commands because River follows commands. I am pretty confident she knows sit, come, no, and go lay down, but anything else she does is probably just because she is following River. I am not sure if it would be better or worse if she were re-homed with River. Sometimes I think she might become more confident if she were not always relying on River. She was spayed and had a small hernia repaired just a few days ago and seems to be healing well. As noted above, she is great with other animals and kids despite her shyness. (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hoss is a big, spoiled, lap dog. We adopted him about 3 months ago after he passed a 'cat test'. As soon as we got home, we found that he was definitely not good with our indoor or outdoor cats. We love him dearly, so we decided to try to make it work. We gated off the house and did our best to keep him separated, hoping things would improve, but they never have. I work from home, and with the cat situation, Hoss has mainly stayed in a room with me 24/7. This is now causing issues as he has separation anxiety when I need to leave. He has also started getting 'protective' of me when we are out in strange areas with extra people around. ... (Read More) He has growled and barked at people when he felt I was threatened. The vet described him as having an 'exceptional temperament', and an experienced K9 officer who spent about 2 hours with him described him as 'about the least aggressive dog I've ever seen', but due to his outbursts, some in my family are afraid of him. It breaks my heart, but it appears we aren't the right family for him. He is housebroken, and will sit, lay down, etc on command. He enters his crate on command, and sleeps there with no issues. Until the separation anxiety started, we had never heard him make a sound (now he whimpers for a few minutes when I first leave him, but then stops.) Other than the occasional bark when he wants to play, he doesn't bark much at all. Doesn't bark at cars, etc. He seemed to be fine with other dogs when he was at the shelter, and he didn't seem aggressive toward other dogs in obedience class (curious, but didn't bark or growl at them), but he hasn't really been around other dogs since then. My kids are grown, so I don't have any experience with him 1 on 1 with smaller kids. He loves to snuggle, sit on your lap, etc. Yesterday I used him for a pillow and took a nap on him. He's a very sweet dog, but I can't keep him. I will be very picky about his new home, as he is too good a dog to end up in a bad situation. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-06-14-00201Butters (male)

Rottweiler Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Butters. I'm about 8-10 years old and I weigh about 60 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Lisbon area and I was picked up by the pound. I came in in kind of rough shape, but the pound is doing everything they can to get me back to good health. I am a very super sweet and lovable fellow. I am very smart and a very nice boy. I love treats and I am very food motivated. I am a super duper nice boy with people and I get along well with other dogs as well. I seem to be housebroken. I keep my kennel clean at night and I wait until I am let outside to go potty. If you're looking for a great rottie to add to your family, ... (Read More)please consider adopting me. I'm Izzy and I'm full of personality. I'm a husky mix around a year old. I was found as a stray and was very shy and reserved at first but it didn't take me long to come out of my shell. I'm crate trained and do great on walks (although I do hate the part where you have to put the leash on). I love kids a lot and haven't met another dog that I didn't like. I'm very playful but would also love to cuddle up right next to you. I'm ready for my furever family, could that be yours?! Izzy is vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. Her adoption fee is $200.
