Rescue Me ID: 17-03-01-00314Tanner (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Tanner. I'm about 1 year old and I weigh about 50 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Lisbon area and I was brought into the pound. I am a very super duper sweet and loving boy. I am a nice boy with people and I get along well with other dogs. I really like to play. I keep my kennel clean at night and I'm a very good boy when I am in the office. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter ... (Read More)will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable.     Hi, my name is Dixon! I am a 2-year-old pitbull, I weigh about 50lbs and I'm quite the snuggler. My foster parents named me after Daryl Dixon because I came out of the shelter looking sort of grungy and like a bad boy. No worries though, I promise I'm good! A strange habit of mine is I love to hop like a kangaroo! I just can't help it; I get so excited. I do excellent in a crate and have never had a potty accident in the house. I know how to sit to get treats but my foster parents are still working on teaching me more, as well as teaching me proper manners. I'd really like a home with other dogs who are easy to get along with so we can all ... (Read More)play well together and wear each other out. Hi there. My name is Buster. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh abot 50 lbs. I was taken in by the pound, along with 4 other dogs due to the neglectful life we were all living. I know you would never be ble to tell by hy happy smile, but I have had a pretty crappy life up until now. I lived tied outside to a doghouse with minimal attention, barely receiving food or water and just being neglected all together. I am happy to be able to move on now and find a loving home where I will get to live inside the house and be a beloved family member instead of being someone's lawn ornament. I am a really wonderful boy. I love people and I get along ... (Read More)well with other dogs. If you're looking for a sweet coonie to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered.     Hi, the shelter named me Earl. I'm a super sweet gentleman. I was found running around in a parking lot but my family hasn't come looking for me. Akita Mix    Age: Adult

To begin.. the picture see is not an Akita... actually she is a mutt. The best mutt in the world ;0) Hoping you can help me. I am looking for somebody who would love this amazing dog. Her name is Pengyi. I rescued this loving and intuitive dog at 3 months old in Taiwan so I don't know her breed. Pengyi is about six years old, she is healthy and her shots are up to date. I will be going back overseas, first to Africa and then to Taiwan (my Lord willing). Taiwan's quarantine process really messes with a pet's psychology and I just don't have the money to transport her back and forth. So the best thing to do for this affectionate best friend ... American Staffordshire Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello. My name is Rome. I'm about 3 years old and I weigh about 65 lbs. I was picked up by the pound after making my way onto a roof at the apartment building I used to live in. I kept going in and out as if to alert my rescuers of something else. Lucky for the severely emaciated puppy living with me that I did because he would have been dead within a day or two with the terrible condition I was in. We were both saved and later surrendered by our owner so we can be adopted into loving homes. At first when I came in, I was very shy and standoffish. After getting to know that the people here are kind and only want to help me and love me, I ... (Read More)came out of my shell and warmed up to them in no time. I can still be a little on the shy side with new people at ffirst, but I warm up pretty fast. I am a truly great dog. I am sweet with people. I love to snuggle up next to you and after I get to know you pretty well, I love giving kisses too. I get along well with most other dogs too and I like to play. My previous owner said I also get along with cats. I did test positive for lyme disease, which is a tick-borne disease. I will need to see a vet to be treated. Typical treatment is a month on antibiotics and then getting vaccinated. Otherwise, I seem to be a pretty healthy fellow. If you're looking for a wonderful dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees.     Sheba is a total doll! She loves her people, and is friendly, well mannered and sweet when people come to visit. She will show off all of her tricks for you, and has been working on her leash walking skills. She loves to take walks, and would love a fenced yard where she can run and play. She likes to play fetch and tug games, and will play on her own with toys too. Her house manners are so good, she doesn't need to be crated or confined when left alone for the day. Sheba can be rude with other dogs, and she would prefer living with a family where she can get all the attention for herself. She is very dog selective and requires slow ... She probably won't be a dog park dog, but she has been pulling less and more polite when she sees other dogs on walks! That's ok though, because she would rather hang out with people anyway. This snuggle bug is looking for her dream family to get her new life started! We don't see many dogs that are as close to perfect as Sheba, meet her, we think you will agree!or? Adoption fee $250. Rescue Me ID: 17-02-26-00158Bellatrix (female)

Great Dane    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

After months in the Kingdom, Princess Bellatrix is finally ready to find her furever Kingdom and is available for adoption! Bellatrix was originally part of a cruelty case and she was very unsure of people, extremely under weight and had some eye issues that needed cared for. Bellatrix loves people now, although when strangers come into her home, she can be quite protective and needs redirected. This is more due to her fear of someone new and not trusting that they will not hurt her. Bellatrix has had several eye surgeries over the past few months and she saw the Ophthalmologist at Medvet last week. Her eyes are in great condition now, she ... (Read More)has no scarring or ulcers. She was diagnosed with scrolled third eyelid cartilage of the left eye which is why it can be puffy and red the only reason to remove it would be for cosmetic reasons, but we feel she is perfect just the way she is. Her previous eye surgeries in the past were for entropion and removal of a cherry eye. Bellatrix prefers to be the only princess, and therefore cannot be placed in a home with other dogs, she does wonderful with children, cats and is housebroken. She would highly benefit from an adopter with previous Great Dane experience, that understands her quirks and is willing to be patient with her as having been abused in the past. Bellatrix has been spayed, is current on her vaccines, including rabies and bordetella.     This is Winnie! Her owner does not have time for her. She is left alone for days at a time. Winnie is a special girl. She has separation anxiety issues which causes her to break from a crate and defecate in the house. She needs to learn that she can trust a human and that her human will return. A home with another dog would be beneficial so she can burn off some energy. But she does well at dog parks. She is 4 years old and spayed. She is ready to find her furever home :)

Dachshund    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Tiana & Ranger are a very sweet bonded pair that were dumped at a shelter in Alabama right before Christmas. Tiana is a 4 year old long-haired dapple. She was spayed in January, but has had at least one litter of puppies in the past. She has beautiful blue eyes and one iris is tri-colored blue, white & brown. She is very timid but is the alpha of the pair. She likes to go for walks no matter the weather conditions. She loves to bark at people and other dogs in the neighborhood, but is very friendly to people. She has done fine at the dog park with other dogs. She wants nothing more than to sit on your lap and cuddle. Ranger is an 8 year old ... (Read More)smooth doxie with a beautiful brindle coat of black & brown. He loves to play fetch with a squeaky ball and will do this for an hour or longer. He loves people and especially likes children. He will even seek them out in a room. Ranger is not a fan of cold weather, snow or rain. He has not been a big fan of going for walks, but that has improved. They both had very badly infected teeth that had not been cared for properly. Ranger lost 22 teeth & Tiana lost 17 teeth but they both are feeling much better. Ranger loves to sit next to you on the couch or play fetch. They are housebroken. but will use a pee pad if available. They would probably prefer to sleep in the big bed with you but are fine sleeping in a large crate with their comfy beds together. Ranger does like to burrow under the blankets and wants to be right next to you. They don't bark much. They will come when called. They would do fine with another dog as long as it were pretty laid back. They have been with an older Lab in their foster home and have done fine. They have also been around a puppy and would probably prefer an older dog in their new home. We don't know their history with cats. Can you open your heart to this very sweet bonded pair? Animal ID: 74Dunkin (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Dunkin is a big, hunky boy. He's very sweet and loves to be with people. He knows sit and listens well. He does take treats roughly, and will need to work on that. 56 lbs. 3 years old. If you have questions or would like to meet the dog featured on this page, please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase ... (Read More)adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Meet Beasley! She's a 5 year old Rat Terrier. Friendly, playful and she loves to snuggle. She came to us because her owner passed away and the family couldn't keep her. She did not like the young children in the home so kids 12 and older would be best for her. She likes most dogs but does dislike one of the Yorkies in her foster home. She ignores the cats completely. She rarely barks but makes a funny noise when she wants your attention. She's housetrained and uses a doggie door. She likes to sleep in the big bed and rarely moves all night. Does Beasley sound like the girl for you? Submit an application at www.sophiasgracefoundation.org

He does have some separation anxiety but it isn't severe. He will be 4 years old this March. We recently had a baby and just don't have the time or energy to give him the love and exercise he needs. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Maggy was rescued from the pound. She has been a part of my family for approximately 9 months. She is an absolute sweetheart. Her perfect world consists of play and lots of love. Although she gets along great with most dogs, she would do best with another dog her size, or being the only child with lots of human attention. Due to an unfortunate employment schedule change, I have been put in this very difficult position of having to find Maggy a better suited forever home. A home where her human is around to spend time with her and give her the attention she deserves.

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-18-00271Wonder McThunder (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello! My name is Wonder aka Wonder McThunder! I'm about 5-7 years old and I weigh about 35 lbs. My friends Maddie, Precious and I were rescued by the pound from a very neglectful situation. My friends were both adopted already but I am still looking for a family to love. I'm a very wonderful and sweet dog with a lot of love to give. We were all living outside because our owners said they couldn't get us to 'be housebroken'. Um yeah, so they put us outside and we all had to fend for ourselves. We weren't even given anything to shelter us from the elements. Needless to say, even through all of that, I am still an absolutely lovely boy. I ... (Read More)get along well with other dogs and I LOVE people! Despite what my previous owners said, I will likely only require minimal amount of housetraining. I keep my kennel clean at night but I do present marking behavior when I am in the office. Neutering will reduce this and it can be corrected by using belly bands and watching me closely. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. **UPDATE** WONDER HAS RECEIVED A FULL SPONSORSHIP TO GO TO ANY APPROVED RESCUE GROUP FROM OUR GOOD FRIENDS ED AND MARY! THANK YOU, ED AND MARY! Kahn is a young boxer (vet thinks he's a little over a year old) mix who lived 8 months of his young life in a shelter. He is so resilient that he learned basic commands and showed nothing but love towards the volunteers who worked with him despite the shelter environment. Halo had the pleasure of pulling him from the shelter and spent quality time with him and we feel he is close to perfect! Because he is a big boy (60lbs) we feel it is important that he is well behaved. So we spend our free time working on basic commands and leash walking and we hope to get his canine good citizen certification very soon. Kahn loves exercise; walking, ...     The name's Frankie, or Frank for short...but don't you dare let me catch you callin' me Fran or Francis....do I look like a Francis to you??? I am just a young stud who finds kennel life to be a real drag...literally. What's an active boy like me supposed to do in a kennel all day, every day? All I want to do is run around and jump and play but I'm stuck in a 3' x 5' cage most of the time and you can't really play in that small of a space.
