House broken, crate trained, knows basic commands, has good house manners. He's learning to walk on leash, but stays with me in park, off leash. I got to bring some spunk to my 10-yr-old GReat Dane male - but he's too much energy for the old guy. He's a fast learner, good snuggled, and really likes to play with other dogs.

Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through the ASPCA SAFER Assessment. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Heath/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

I am smitten with this approximately 8 year old gentleman! It is going to take the right person to adopt this handsome guy into his/her home as he can be stubborn and it does take a bit for him to become comfortable and warm to his surroundings....but he is well worth it! Duke gets along well with both men and women but I believe he prefers ladies and has been known to get snarky towards men (unless they are slow going and give him space) when 'protecting' his property. He did live for a time with a dog savvy teen, so older kids are preferred as he will not tolerate rough play, tugging or pulling. Duke is the type of guy who loves head ...     Hi there! My name is Pokey! I'm about 2 years old and I weigh 60 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Leetonia area and I was brought in to the pound. I came in with a horrible injured foot and tail. I had been running around like that for a couple of days until someone was able to gain my trust and catch me. It appears that I was hit by a car and my foot and tail caught the brunt of the impact. I don't remember what happened, but I know it hurt. I had to go to the vet immediately. The vet cleaned my wounds really well, then removed the exposed, broken bone from my toe. they're hoping that once I heal, my toe won't need removed, but it is ... (Read More)still a possibility.     THE LINE STARTS HERE TO ADOPT 'THE FONZ'!!!! Fonzie is a sweet 12.5 lb., 6-8 yr. old Griff mix that was on the list for euthanasia at a kill shelter. Poor Fonzie came into rescue a yucky mess, severely matted, full of worms, sneezing, and coughing. He was found as a stray, so not much is known about this sweet boy. What we do know is that he certainly was someones pet at some point.. He has a wonderful, fun, sweet personality, loves his people, is very loving, good with other dogs, house trained, and ready for a new home. Fonzie Favorites: Hanging on the couch, walks in nice weather, and his crate. Fonzie Dislikes: Frequent car rides ... (Read More)(he gets very nervous in the car), walks in cold weather, and evil nail clippers. Fonzie is up to date on vaccines, neutered, and micro chipped. Fonzie does have a slight heart murmur, which does not require medication at this time. Fonzie is being fostered in in a private home in Columbus, OH. Keep in mind that we prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to fly in to get the dog and that can only happen if the dog is stable enough to travel in the cabin with the passenger. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-01-31-00622Buffy (female)

Cocker Spaniel    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Buffy is a 14 year old, female, cocker spaniel. She is current on her shots, has tested negative for heartworms, and will be spayed before adoption. Buffy came from a very sad situation. A former adopter reached out to us about an acquaintance of theirs that had a dog that desperately needed vet care, but refused to have it done. They agreed to release her to rescue for the vet care needed. We were first told she had a tumor on her back, was about 4 years old, and had a little trouble getting around. We picked her up and immediately noticed this girl was not 4 years old, she was not properly cared for whatsoever, was matted, with nails so ... (Read More)long they were curving back under into her paw, and was severely under weight. We then noticed her eyes were white and cloudy, she was having trouble standing, she didn't respond to noise, and the tumor on her back was almost bigger than she was. After having the tumor removed and a good vet assessment, we were given a good picture of her overall health. Buffy has cataracts in both eyes, leaving her almost completely blind, only seeing lights and shadows it seems, her ears were so infected they were swollen shut, leaving her almost completely deaf. She also had a bad bladder infection, which has left her unable to hold her pee for too long. Buffy can walk but does have a problem with a disc in her spine, making her a little wobbly in her hind end. If she doesn't jump up or down and takes it easy, the disc should stay in place and she should be just fine throughout the rest of her days. We also found out she was definitely not 4 but 14 years old, a 10 year difference. Buffy was crated and left alone and with little to no food her entire life. However, the cruelty and neglect she endured has not put a damper on her spirit. She is a silly and very loveable girl. She likes to play and is a little snoop. All she is asking for is a comfy bed to call her own and a patient, loving family, to call her own until she is called home. She would do best in a home where someone is always home to care for, keep and eye on, and love on her. She deserves to life the last years of her life comfortable and loved. (Less)

Animal ID: PPR16-01Buster (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi! My name is Buster Brown (Buster for short). I'm a male 12 pound Chihuahua mix (possibly with a pug). I am 7 years old and very active for my age. %A0 I came to Puppy Pals Rescue when a member in KY, Miss Lisa, called and told them about me. I lived with her for a week or so until a transport to Ohio could be arranged - and she fell in love with me. I was a shelter dog so no history of my past is known, but I have so much personality and sweetness - you can't imagine it all in one dog! %A0 After Miss Lisa was told that Puppy Pals would take me, she arranged for me to get all my shots and be neutered in KY. I ... (Read More)received a clean bill of health from the vet in KY. My foster mom needs to take me to be micro-chipped before I am adopted. %A0 Unfortunately, I had a difficult time with my neutering incision and had to wear the 'Collar of Shame' for several weeks. I had to go to the vet for some medicine once I arrived in Ohio for healing. I am now a healthy dog looking for my forever home. You would never know that I'm 7 years young. The only sign of age is that my upper teeth are worn down (which is more a sign of how hard my past life was then of my age). I do eat soft food only. My foster mom took a video of me dancing on my hind legs. She said she had to because I am so cute! I get so excited when I get a small piece of chicken or cheese. (I just found out they were hiding medicine in them. I'm not complaining mind you, but is that fair?) %A0 I love to sleep, nap, and eat in my crate. I am doing wonderful on my house-training. I like to go outside and chase the birds and squirrels. I love when my foster mom throws the tennis ball and I chase after it. She keeps telling me to bring it back'| why? I just run around with it in my mouth! The other dogs here scared me at first, but we are all best friends now. There is a momma dog here who is quite alpha and possessive of her pups and doesn't like anyone to go near them. I caught on fast - do not go near them! Now we're all best friends and Momma trusts me. I'm a very nice guy and wouldn't hurt a fly. We (the Momma, another foster named Jessa and I) like to chase each other out in the yard. I'm looking for a quiet home. I would like a family who might have older kids - or an older couple who wants the joy of an older, sweet, loving guy like me. I will make a wonderful walking companion and best friend. I would prefer a fenced in yard, however I've not shown any signs of being an escape artist or a runner. I do walk well on the leash, so if I could be walked outside to potty it might be okay without. However... I love to play ball and chase the other dogs and those things need a fence! One of my favorite things is being outside. However when I'm inside... I like to look out the window for any activity and show that I'm a great watch dog. %A0 My foster mom says that she can't say enough good things about me. I adjust very fast and listen to instructions and come when I'm called. %A0 If you're looking for a fun, loving, good boy'| I may be your guy! If you have any questions please contact my foster mom at the link found at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Dogs_Buster1601.html .%A0 Fill out an application if you are interested in adopting me - you can find those at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Applications.html %A0(Email my foster home and let them know you applied so they can be sure the application is received! ) I just can't wait to find a forever home!%A0 Thanks!!! Animal ID: PPR15-87Bam Bam (male)

Chihuahua    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi! My name is BamBam. I was rescued from a shelter in KY in November 2015. I am now living in a foster home in OH and having a blast! I am neutered, heartworm negative, vaccinated, and microchipped. I am crate-trained and house-trained (as long as you let me out when I go to the door). I do not 'mark' in the house and I heard my foster dad tell my foster mom that I pee like a girl'| what? I spend the nights in my crate and don't make a sound all night - and I don't bark much during the day either. One negative attribute is that I shed. I have a lot of energy. I like playing with my foster sisters (also Chihuahuas) ... (Read More)and I like going on walks. Sometimes I skip on 3 legs when we walk. I also love toys, especially the ones that squeak. I chew on toys, but I do not chew on anything else in the house, not even my foster dad's slippers. I also love to snuggle on the couch with my family... I LOVE being around people! Once I get to know you (give me about 5 minutes) you'll be my new best friend, but then I may need some time to warm up to the rest of the family. I would do best in a house with kids over 8 years old and with no other male dogs. I am ready to find my forever home and I promise to be the best dog ever! (Less)

Hello, my name is Denise! I am 2 years old. I weigh 9.5 pounds and I am tan in color. %A0 I came into Puppy Pals Rescue after they were notified by another rescue in KY that another dog, Banjo, and I needed rescued. We (Banjo and I) came from an abusive situation - we were taken away from our family. From what we heard, they might be spending some time in jail? We have been here with Puppy Pals for a while and have adjusted well and now'| we are looking for a loving forever homes. %A0 Since being in PPR I have been spayed, received all my shots, been heartworm and fecal tested (all negative) and been micro-chipped. %A0 ... (Read More)I love to lay on my foster dad's lap when he takes a nap and I love to run outside in the back yard. My foster mom says I am making progress on house-training and getting along with all the other dogs here at my foster home. We don't know about cats since there aren't any here. I do fine on car rides. I am doing well on the leash and I like to go on walks. %A0 My ideal family would be one with a fenced backyard that might have some older children to play with and love me. Due to my past, my foster mom thinks I could benefit from some professional training classes. %A0 My foster mom also says that I need a strong pack leader. I am a bit alpha (at times) and can easily take advantage of a situation if not given a strong reprimand if and when I do something wrong. Since being in my foster home, I seem to be doing much better. %A0 I am a very sweet little girl who deserves a 2nd chance'| with a family who will love me this time! Great Pyrenees    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered

Harley is an amazing dog. We've loved him so much and he is amazing with kids. I'm wanting to find him a new home because he is,randomly, no longer getting along with my other dog whom was there first. I have 4 kids, one is 1.5 years old and Harley lets him play with him however they see fit. He's never growled at my children or nipped at them or bit. He is an escape artist, as the breed already is naturally curious to roam. We adopted him from the shelter in November of 2014 at 5 years old. No vaccination records but he has had his rabies shot an that's it. He pulls on his leash slightly when walking that I couldn't break him of. The ... (Read More)biggest problem I've had with him is when the dogs are in their room he has randomly attacked my Pitbull unprovoked, that is a male as well. They haven't had a problem with each other up until they ran away and Harley got shot. I took him to the vet and it was just a flesh wound. It wasn't even an inch deep but it entered and went back about an inch. No problems when it happened or since it has happened. I think it may have affected him mentally... I'm not sure but he still a good dog. He likes to give hugs when greeting someone. He's very friendly but very protective. He will sleep with you after awhile but he also likes to sleep by doorways to keep watch of everything. If you're interested in him either call or text. I will get back with you as soon as I can. (Less)

American Staffordshire Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We are making an attempt to rehome Rocky because his owner has cancer and is unable to continue to take care of him. He has him outside all the time right now and we really need to find a better home for him. He is already neutered and will be completely vetted before placement. We are not asking any money, just a good home, but we do need to do a home visit because we cannot take the chance someone will take the opportunity to use him as a bait dog. Rocky is a friendly dog and has been around children and other dogs most of his life. We would only place him with larger cats. He is ok with cats though. He likes to play with them and ... (Read More)it would probably upset some cats. Because he has been outside, he might would have to be reminded of his training indoors, but it should not be too difficult. He really just wants to be with people and love attention. Rocky is a very good looking dog as well. The pics probably don't do him justice. If you are interested in meeting him, please email eastohanimals@yahoo.com We require an application (email), a vet check, and home visit before placement. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-01-27-00431Sierra (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

SIERRA was a stray wandering in the countryside in rural NW TN when she came to the home of someone who contacted the rescue for help. At only 35 pounds with ribs showing, it was obvious she had been on her own for a while. She is now safe in a foster home where she is getting good nutrition, so we expect she will regain weight. Sierra is a brown and white Pit mix female who is estimated to be around one year old. She is very sweet and likes to crawl up into your lap and whimper a bit to see if she can get any more food or extra treats. She tested negative for heartworm and has been vaccinated and vetted. She will also be spayed and ... (Read More)microchipped prior to adoption. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Sierra if it means she will have a good forever home. If you are another rescue group, we will waive the adoption fee but you can make a donation toward vetting at your discretion. The adoption fee will help our 501(c)3 non-profit rescue to cover the cost of the veterinary care she has received and the microchip. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-01-27-00374Ollie (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

OLLIE is lucky to be alive. This sweet, friendly white Pit mix female was locked in a shed and left to die. She was in there for nearly a week with no food or fresh water. Thankfully, a neighbor realized she was there and contacted the authorities. She is now safe in a foster home where she is receiving good nutrition and TLC. She weighed 43 pounds when first examined by the vet and her ribs were showing at that weight. We expect she will now gain weight. She was very scared when first rescued and just wanted to get down to the ground. It was as though she had lost her spirit and trust in people. She needs a family who will help her ... (Read More)get that back. She has let volunteers pet and love on her after she has seen that they are OK and that she is safe. She is very calm and sweet. The vet estimates she is about 2 years old. She tested negative for heartworm and has been vaccinated and vetted. She will also be spayed and microchipped prior to adoption. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Ollie if it means she will have a good forever home. Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

LANCE has A LOT to offer some lucky family! He is a loving, well-behaved, smaller black Lab mix male who is full grown at 35 to 40 pounds. He is estimated to be 2 years of age. He sits lower to the ground than other Labs since he has shorter legs. His feet are spotted like a Blue Heeler's might be. He is a little on the shy side but friendly. Lance initially tested positive for heartworm but he received treatment for that and we expect he will be heartworm free as long as he is kept on monthly prevention. He is neutered and current on vaccinations. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to ... Great Dane    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Look for the bare necessities, the simple bare necessities and forget about your worries and your strife as Prince Baloo might be the one for you. Baloo is a 1 year grey merle Great Dane who still has a lot of growing to do. As a typical Great Dane puppy, Baloo is full of zoomies, adventures and fun! He loves to play tug-of-war, craves attention, and feels that your lap is the place to sit. Baloo does have skin allergies and a sensitive stomach, so he will require a grain-free diet only. He can at times have stress colitis, which needs to be treated with medications. Baloo was not properly socialized as a young pup and can be easily startled ... (Read More)by sounds and quick movements, he will require an adopter that is experienced with the Great Dane breed, either currently having a Dane or owning one in the past, to continue his training that we have begun. He is housebroken, does well with dogs of all sizes, doesn't mind cats and does well with children of all ages. When Baloo saw our royal vet, it was discovered that he is flat chested with central part of chest deformed, this was most likely caused by an injury that was not treated when he was a young puppy or he was a 'swimmer pup', a hereditary condition. This diagnoses causes him no health issues, and will not in the future either. Baloo has been neutered, is current on his shots, including rabies and Bordetella, he has been microchipped, and started on flea and heartworm prevention also. Baloo will be available for adoption after Jan 31st. Baloo's adoption donation is $400.00 All of our Royal's are spayed or neutered, brought current on all shots, including rabies and bordetella, heartworm tested, wormed, microchipped and receive a dental if needed. An application must be completed, submitted and approved prior to meeting any of our Royal Prince and Princesses. A completed application does not guarantee adoption approval If interested in adopting into your family, please download an adoption application at our web site http://www.royaltydogrescue.com Royalty Dogs are in foster homes, we are not a facility.     Hi I'm Boss! I am about 3 years old. I came to the rescue from a breeder who was breeding blue Staffordshire terriers. My foster mom says that I am an 80 lb sweetheart, but that they were not breeding for looks, not brains. I am a big, stocky guy, but I am pretty low to the ground. I can produce a perfect sit (if you are holding a treat) and I am great in my crate. Otherwise I am big and goofy and I love to run around the yard like a chicken with its head cut off.     A nine year old Great Dane, he is wonderful with kids and people and very well behaved. I've had him since he was a puppy but we have a 7 month he is to clumsy around. Rescue Me ID: 16-01-26-00353Lassie (female)

Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Very sweet and gentle little 30 lb golden mix; 2-3 years old, fully vetted and undergoing slow kill treatment for her heartworm. Completely house broken, crate trained and quiet. Loves to cuddle, play with toys, great on a leash and loves car rides. Has done very well with my dogs here and plays with them but possibly may need to be the only pet due to a prior incident while in foster care where she had an incident with the resident dog. Hoping this was a one time thing as I have seen zero aggression in this girl. Lassie has had a rough start in her young life, and has the saddest eyes and face, but is really a happy girl, and the most ... (Read More)loving couch potato. We spend many hours cuddling together and watching tv. She would be the absolute perfect companion for a mature senior-asks for so very little and loyal to a fault. She does have a distinct and apparent fear of all men in general . This is usually indicative of a dog that has been abused severely in the past. Although we've been working on this with her, and exposing her to social outings that include males, we have seen no improvement in her fear issues. So, she'd be best placed in a female only home, unless the male can be infinitely patient. She is not aggressive to men, but petrified of them.Adoption application, vet and professional ref, home check and small rehome fee all apply to adopt her to an indoor home only. (Less)

Sweet dog, loves people, very friendly and loves to give kisses; good with children; cat tested and paid little to no attention; good with similar sized male dogs only-no small breeds and no females; Lulu loves to play and plays hard . Ideally, she would be adopted in an 'only pet' home. House broken, crate trained, and extremely quiet. Very strong on a leash and needs work. Loves toys, squeakies, and filled Kongs. Has a sweet gentle nature around people, but does not do well with other female dogs or small breeds. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Diamond has been with our family since 3 months old. She grew up with our kids. She is very attached to the females in our family. In her older age she is anxious around little ones. She does get used to them but usually wants to go outside when little ones are in the house. I'm unsure about other animals. We had a bunny for a little while and it ran freely around the house and she never bothered it, but she gets protective, especially over her female owners towards other dogs. I have been single with kids for awhile and she helps us feel safe, not because she is vicious, but because people are intimidated by her bark and size. She weighs ... (Read More)about 70 pounds. She's very loving and for the most part a good girl. She just has a stubborn streak and wants to be sneaky to break rules when we are not home. Lol. Big personality and we love her a lot and praying to God for a good home for her. We are downsizing from a house to an apt and cannot take her with us to an apt. (Less)
