Rescue Me ID: 17-12-11-00398Louis MacPhail (male)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Let me introduce myself. I am Louis Macphail a 2 1/2 year old Standard Doxi Lhasa mix and I weigh 21 1/4 pounds; I am low to the ground- but can leap a Baby gate with ease. I am not a digger- but then I never had a reason to dig or escape a fenced yard. If left alone- I may want to go on an adventure- who knows. I have lived happily with other dogs of all breeds and sizes, but I do like to be the boss. My best friend is a little pit mix and we love dragging each other around by the collar. Because I really like a good tussle and tumble- l could hurt a little dog- but I wouldn't mean to. So smaller dogs probably wouldn't be the best fit for ... (Read More)me. I have never lived with cats; I've watched them from the porch across the street- and they do perk my ears and interest and theylook like a lot of fun to chase. I probably wouldn't like one of those things to live with. I am a happy dog with good potty manners as long as we sync our schedules. I am crate trained- but much prefer to be on the couch or on my very own bed. I love walks and car rides and running my little heart heart out. My yard should be free of fox tails and burs because those things stick to my fur and in my toes like bees on honey. I love to go to the beauty parlor; My toes should be trimmed short; even tho they look like fuzzy slippers when not trimmed up- you may not notice my nails need attention. I do not mind a weekly brushing- I actually encourage it, because if you don'e comb me then- I get all matted and I hate that! So give me 10 or 15 minutes a week and comb me! Because of unforeseen circumstances my family wanted the very best for me- which is why I am in a loving foster home. But I sure would like a new home for the holidays. My guardian is very particular about where I will take my throne and rule my kingdom. So be prepared, she has a lot of requisites you need to meet. The below note is from her: This is not a first come first serve placement. Please tell me about your family, other pets, property and yard as well as your activities and how long Louis will be alone each day. Be prepared to send a picture of your immediate back yard, living room and a selfie, the city you live, email address and contact number. Louis Macphail is neutered, up to date on all shots and vaccines, and microchipped. His diet is Diamond chicken and sweet potato, but he is not finicky. If I find you are the perfect family for Louis- be prepared to pick him up within 72 hours in Grants Pass. If upon meeting we mutually determine it is not a good fit-and you are not from the area, take some time and enjoy the spirit of the Holidays in our town. I do not hold my charges for your convenience- nor take an advance deposit. So please, only interested families need reply. Thank you and happy holidays. (Less)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Senior

Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sammy came to my grandmother as a rescue about 4 years ago along with his sister and companion Ladybug. I will also be posting about her, but these two have to go together, as they were raised together from pups and cannot be seperated. Unfourtuantely my grandfather passed and grandma has to move, and cannot take them. Sammy has no teeth and only eats soft food. He is not that fond of men, but will tolerate them. He likes women and older children over 10 that are gentle. When on the lap of his person, he will become aggressive (barking/growling) if other humans enroach on his bubble, but will not bite and is completely chill otherwise. We do ... We don't always know how they will get along with all dogs, all children. Some won't be a perfect family member right away! They will need love, patience, a strong owner who will let them know what is expected of them and what they can expect from their new family. It may take an afternoon or it may take a week or so! But they need homes and families who will bring them back to knowing what family is! Puppies: Please understand they are puppies; not potty trained; not good or bad with kids, dogs, cats. They are pliable puppies ready for you to imprint good manners, social skills, and training. You are encouraged to follow up with training after they are finished with shot series and or at the direction of your veterinarian. A happy healthy well socialized puppy is a happy family! You may be asked to make a refundable deposit for spay/neutering. Inquire at the Shelter. General Adoption Fees for Dog: Adult dogs and puppies- $125, Senior dogs 7 and over $50. Veterans are half price / $62.50 with presentation of government issued VA ID. For Josephine County fee includes first year licensing. Please visit the shelter or if need special arrangements for meet and greet please email me. If you have a dog- encourage you to bring also. Staff may be unable to answer calls right away, so you may contact me via email if you cannot get to shelter right away! You are encouraged to make your best effort to go during normal business hours. Note: Often times we are asked 'what about cats'?' Please be advised that we cannot guarantee a dog's behavior with a cat; sometimes the dog is fine with a cat- but cat not so happy about his canine intruder! If we know emphatically that a dog could take issue with a cat, livestock or chickens- will be stated in body of biography!     Hi! I'm Recon! I'm a 7 year old male presumably pure Lab who weighs 80lbs. I'm an exuberant fella who is hoping to find a family who appreciates my big personality! I'm vocal and active and I certainly don't have a shy bone in my body. I love meeting new people!! I have lived with cats and dogs and do well with most new dogs I meet, although sometimes I play a bit rough. Even though I am a bit older, I'll still need a strong handler as I don't have many leash manners and I tend to get very excited when meeting new people. It's all out of love and good leadership, though! I may knock kiddos over by accident- so caution with tots. Available ...     Meet Titan! Titan is a 2 year old male who weighs 66lbs. Titan was surrendered to the shelter because his owner had a recent serious health diagnosis--through no fault of his own. He was a much loved and well cared for family member. Titan has lived with other dogs, cats, and chickens! With new dogs, however, Titan can be rather selective. Titan is a bit of a worry wart--he can get nervous with new people or new dogs, and tends to bark and put on this display, as if to say 'I'm so tough!' but his wiggly little butt and goofy kisses quickly tell another story. He is very playful, loving, and a goofball once he knows that you are a friend. ... (Read More)Titan is a loyal protector of his family and would love to find a new one!     My name is Carol, and I am a very sweet, little 4-5 year old girl, weighing about 11 pounds. I adore people, but also like to play with the other dogs here. I do like to bark when I get excited. I do love belly rubs and to be cuddled. I would love to have a lap of my own. If you might be my new family, Please email k9kids4adoption@gmail.com for an application, and tell us a little about the home you have for me, where you are located, and a phone ...     I am Romera. I had several siblings, and we were born in the woods in a very rural off the grid area of Josephine County. My birthday is in or about August 25. My siblings, Shalera and Behemo were easier to catch than me and my sister Shahera. We were so so scared, full of ticks and fleas- and oh yes, those nasty worms. Shalera and Bohemo have found thier wonderful forever homes in Salem and Portland. They got amazing families. We both now have been really wormed good; no ticks or fleas either. We also don't stick our heads in the corner so we won't see you and you won't see us. We are learning to play and trust; we are seeing the good ... (Read More)side of human kinds. Today, we had a fun day playing in the water puddles chasing tennis balls. The vaccines were not as bad as we thought they would be, and we will be very ready for the next 2 rounds. My guardian rescue mom is very very particular where we will go. So you will have to deal with her high expectations of our forever homes. Here is a note from our foster mom. There are some who do not like the following criteria; I am not sorry- as it is my prerogative to set the parameters of this placement. Most people who are interested have no problem. But, it you are one of the few that take offense-, Go no further. Please tell me about you, your family, other pets, yard, own or rent; your expectations of your new pooch, what pooch can expect from you! Please provide this information and city in which you live with contact phone number. This is not a first come first serve placement. The objective is to find the perfect home for pooch and family. If you do not provide requested information- please do not expect a reply to your inquiry. Please provide your email to which I can respond and phone number for serious inquiries. Be prepared to provide photos of your immediate fenced yard or your intentions if not fenced- and of your family living room area with a selfie. Many of the dogs that come to me are placed in foster and I am entrusted to find the best homes. There is a reasonable fee to cover foster care and medical and sometimes to pay forward to other dogs in need of extra. I take the placement of dogs under my charge very seriously- so please only inquire if interested. Your first question should not be 'how much'- it should be, 'what can I offer to ensure a happy forever life'. You will be required to sign agreement for Spay. (Less)

Meet Buckmaster, a 5 year old, 15 pound happy happy buckaroo who gets on well with other dogs and cats too. He just adores going for walks with his tail wagging a mile a minute. Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

If Nee Nee was a human she would be that one friend who has a hard exterior, but once you get to know her she will melt your heart. And who can blame her for that exterior? She has had a ruff start at life, but we believe that every dog deserves a second chance. She is looking for someone with patience, knowledge of her breed, and love. Due to her hard exterior, she needs to be an only animal home. She gets along with adults, but no children should be in the household. We do realize we are looking for a unicorn, but we will continue to do what we can to realize her potential. The rescue will be providing a trainer to help the owner bond ... Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Opal is a 9 month old female heeler/aussie shepard. She was adopted at 8 wks by our family, consisting of 1 older female dog, a 2 year old male dog, young male cat and two teenagers. She knows basic commands and does well on a leash. She's extremely intelligent and can differentiate between her toys and knows most by name (i.e. Ball, rope, baby...). She will 'sit' and 'wait' before eating until she's been told 'ok'. She loves to hike and is a great camping dog. Her issue seems to be young children and men she does not know. She no longer nips at heels but can be unpredictable with other dogs and younger children. She needs a loving home ... (Read More)where she can work and be the center of attention. It is not recommended she live in a home with young children or a lot of chaos. She is the sweetest baby but I can not keep her due to her behavior around young children. She would be a great dog for a farm or someone who can dedicate time to her needs. She comes with her leash, collar and tactical vest. This is very hard for our family to do because we love her so much! (Less)

Hello, I am beyond sad to admit I need help. I am recently widowed and back in school, all my kids have moved out and I am never home to be with my kids dog. None of them can take care of her, pits in rentals and all. She really needs someone who can take proper care of her. I mean she gets fed and walked to potty everyday, but it is more and more too much struggle. She is such a love and sleeps with me every night. The idea of her on a concrete floor in a shelter would kill me, and probably why I did not reach out sooner. She does have a bit of anxiety and barks at other dogs and is slow to warm up to people, but she does. Can you help me?

We don't always know how they will get along with all dogs, all children. Some won't be a perfect family member right away! They will need love, patience, a strong owner who will let them know what is expected of them and what they can expect from their new family. It may take an afternoon or it may take a week or so! People were hiding them and forcing them to live in small crates. They were neglected and undersocialized. They are quickly learning how to love humans, and learning their manners! Bundles of energy, they appear to be bonded brothers and so need to stay together. They are not ready to go into a home just yet, but by Christmas they will have the best manners and will know their basic commands!

Meet Ms. Mina, a sweet playful 3 year old pitty mix who is in need of a home who understands her breed, She recently has become aggressive towards dogs, and for that reason needs to be the only animal in the house. We are currently working with a trainer to assess this behavior. We would include 2 training sessions so Mina and her new family can work with her on her issues. She is great with older children, loves car rides, camping, the beach, and destroying toys. She does need exercise everyday which would probably go a long way with her behavioral issues. Her adoption fee is $300.00 and she is being fostered in Olympia.

He can use them for a short period of time, but mostly drags them around. Because of his lack of control, he often has accidents in the house. He is on a hottie schedule, so if you work from home, or are home a lot, his accidents are manageable. He loves people, dogs, kitties. He would do best in a home with hardwood floors, and a grassy back yard. He is super active and loves to play. He has wheels, but does not like them at all. He is a special dog for a special person.

She is potty pad trained as long as the pad is close to her bed. Leila is taking phenobarbital for her seizures and is on the highest dose possible for her liver. ... (Read More)Her last vet check was about a year ago. I'm fairly certain that her vaccines are current. My schedule is such now that I feel it is time to place her with a new family that has more time to interact with her. She loves all people, although the more rowdy they are, the more she gets nervous. She is great with babies; just wants to lick all over them. She loves cats, even if they don't have time for her. Chihuahua    Age: Adult

Health: Needs to be Neutered

Smedley is a sweet guy who is just looking for his forever home. I'm guessing his age to be around 8 or 9. He weighs about 8.5 lbs, with long legs and a slender body. Sadly, Smedley's owner passed away a few weeks ago in his sleep and poor 'Smed' was alone in the house with his deceased owner for a few days before we rescued him. He was hungry and thirsty and a little scared, but he has settled now and is quite the character. His owner was a bit of a hoarder and so he came from a not-so-healthy environment. He lived nearly his entire life alone with his owner and rarely was allowed outdoors. Ironically, he seems pretty healthy and has an ... (Read More)exceptionally sweet demeanor. Having Chihuahuas of my own, I know how scared they can be when their human they've known all their lives is no longer there. I did not want to see him go to a shelter, so I offered to keep him and try to find him a loving family and his forever home. Here are some things about this little guy you should know before adopting him: 1) He is NOT neutered. 2) Considering he lived basically his entire life indoors, alone with one man, he is amazingly very social. When I brought him to our house, I was worried about how he would react with our dogs (we have 2 female Pitbulls ages 8 and 11, a 12 yr old female Chihuahua and a 10 yr old male Chihuahua). To our surprise, he acted like he had lived with our dogs all his life. Not one growl from any of them, when this strange little guy came in. He gets along with all of them like he's known them forever! 3) He's a snuggler. He's perfectly content snuggling up on the couch right next to you and sometimes likes to sleep under the covers with us. 4) He's a bit of a worry-wart. When he's anxious, he wants to be right in your lap. This is usually when my son leaves the house. I think his feelings get a little hurt, so he will whimper a little when he leaves. 5) He absolutely LOVES to go for walks! I don't think he had ever been on a walk before and when my son took him for a walk, he was prancing with his head held high and his front legs prancing like the dressage horses trot at the Olympics. Now, when we grab his collar and leash, he dances around in circles and literally puts the collar on himself! Although I must warn his new 'fam', he will bolt if you let him out without a leash. 6) He is great with kids (even little ones!) loves to play with them! 7) He does go to the door when he has to go out, but he will lift his leg in the house if he isn't taken outside. I'm sure this has to do with the fact that his owner rarely let him outside. He prefers to go outside though and doesn't go in the house if he's taken out regularly. 8) He doesn't chew or destroy things. 9) He's not a barker. All in all, he's a really good dog. I'd keep him if I could, but I already have four dogs and can't have anymore. He's such a lovely little guy and I want to make sure he finds his forever home. One that will show him lots of love and affection and not lock him in a crate all day long. I don't care what vets say, sticking a dog in a crate for 10 hrs a day is cruel and inhumane. I've had dogs all my life and I've never crated a single one. If they have separation issues, get them a playmate. If they chew, get them some bully sticks and toys, but don't lock them in a cage all day. One thing that works wonders for dogs with separation anxiety, is to leave the TV on with the volume up when you're gone. It makes them think you are home and they stay much more relaxed and will usually just lay around and sleep as they do when you are home. Ideally, I would wish his forever home to have a fenced yard, where he can go out and run around and play with the other dogs or kids, as he loves to go outside and he loves to play with other dogs! Just as a reminder to those of you who've never owned a Chihuahua, they are NOT outside dogs. Their little bodies cannot tolerate the cold like other dogs. They may love to go out and play for a bit, but you should never leave them outside for extended periods of time. I'm not asking for anything other than a small $25 adoption fee to be donated to RescueMe.org and to promise to have him neutered. I just want to make sure this sweet little guy goes to a loving, forever home. (Less)

This sweet face belongs to one of the most beautiful souls we have met. Meet Ty. This gentle 8 year old boy has had a tough year. His dad passed away a little over a year ago and then he lost his canine sister. Ty moved in with a family member who kept him tied up in the backyard until his dad's nephew took him in and gave him a safe and loving home again. Unfortunately Ty's life was turned upside down again due to housing issues that forced his family to relocate to housing that won't take Ty. Ty is a gentle, well-mannered fellow who asks for nothing more than love. He is obedient, respectful, walks excellently on a leash and knows all his ... (Read More)basic commands. He is house trained and won't destroy anything while you are gone. Ty enjoys his walks but what he loves even more sitting with you and cuddling or playing a game of tug with his squeaky! He gets along great with children and would prefer to be the only dog. Because of his size, he's a big 95 pound boy, older children would be best. Ty is in good health with no medical issues other than some allergies from poor nutrition that are now resolving. If you are looking for a soul mate, a mellow kind of guy Ty is your boy. You will instantly fall in love with him and he will bond with you quickly when he sees the love you have for him. His fan club will transport him all over the west. (Less)

I am a sweet black lab who loves to be with people all of the time. My owner is no longer able to care for me because of their health. I love to take walks although I do pull. My foster mom is helping me to learn to heel. I am not good around other dogs as I had a couple of scary encounters with other dogs. I am extremely smart, I will bark when I need to go out, I can sit and stay on command, and I will go lay down if you tell me. I want a home where the people will include me in most of their family life. I won't do well if I am ignored or shoved outside.  Abused/Neglected, Fearful/Anxious

Heidi is a gem. She loves her person, but will take awhile to warm up/trust you. She would most like to be the only dog in the house. She loves short walks, tossing toys around every once in awhile, and just being with you. She needs a home that is carpeted/does not travel a lot. Due to her arthritis it is impossible for her to walk on tile/slippery surfaces. She will do the splits. Heidi hates car rides, they are very hard on her. She will whine and stand the entire time. She needs someone who is patient and kind and has a lot of time and love to give. She gets along with other dogs as long as they are smaller (she is 120lbs and BIG). She ... She is a good girl and aims to please. She is not just a 'pretty dog' and will not go to just any home. I am heartbroken to have to give her up and will take my time placing her with the right person. (Less)

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

River is Husky, Lab, Shep, mixed with who knows what else. She is about 6-7 months old and very loving! She chews and digs but we think that's because she wasn't getting the attention she needed. She is a bit of an escape artist and can jump/climb a 6 foot fence. Hopefully with training and exercise she will stay in, but she would need a high fence or coyote rollers, or just to be out on leash for now. She chases cats. It's difficult to determine if it's prey drive or just curiosity at this point, but any adopter with cats should be aware. She is spayed, chipped, up to date on vaccines. She is mostly house trained but has a little trouble ... (Read More)in new environments remembering. She will hang out in a crate, but needs some treats to lure her in. She knows sit, but doesn't yet come when called. She's very friendly and gets along great with other dogs. She is in foster in SoCal but can be adopted into Oregon or Washington.
