He was born on Friday 13th of November 2009. He went to what was to be his forever home and something happened. Animal control called me because his microchip was first registered to me (as all our pups are). After not being able to reach the registered owner they called me. Because of his size (106lbs), his talkative ways with other dogs and his desire to be with people) they were going to put him down. I paid fees and took a ticket (needs to get his rabies vaccination since we have no way to know if he has had it yet). Sasha is a 7ish year old Pitbull type. She is spayed and is up to date on all her shots. Sasha was abandoned/found at the Wandering Goat Cafe back in May. A good samaritan brought her home for safekeeping but does not have the lifestyle that is best for her. After scanning her for a microchip she was found to be originally from the Seattle area, and after searching for the old owner to no avail, no one has stepped up to claim her. She is a sweety. Arrived at the Shelter on 3/12/13 We are seeking a rescue placement that can give this dog some extra special attention. UPDATE 4/1/13: Sadie is becoming more relaxed in general now that she knows the shelter routine better. Staff and volunteers take her more several walks and visits a day. Sadie seems to ignore other dogs while out on walks. According to a staff member she has handling sensitivities. The volunteers in the video have not had any trouble with her. I recommend that you come meet her and see how she is with YOU. Sadie is not allowed to be adopted to public person. Sadie is scared when real loud cars go by her when she is walking on the sidewalk. When she first arrived at the pound and was scared in the intake room, an employee got bit by her when the leash was wrapped around Sadie's neck and the lady when to unwrap it. 3/15/13 Sadie is doing poorly since she arrived at the shelter. She has erratic behaviors that indicate panic or fear, but the triggers change from day to day and from situation to situation. She has tried to snap and bite, and sometimes will growl and scream in panic when being leashed or touched, or even when just in a quiet room with staff. A medical cause has been ruled out, and because there are so many unpredictable triggers, there is little training or behavior modification that can be accomplished at the shelter. For these reasons, she is being offered as a rescue candidate to a sanctuary-type rescue that could potentially house her with a high quality of life long term/for life. He has been through basic obedience classes and knows the basic commands of sit, down, back, here, and leave it. Two Siberian Huskies, female (4 years old-Malibu) and male (2 years old-Wolfy). I would prefer them to be taken as a package deal. Free to good home, interview required. I've had them both since they were puppies, but the responsibility is too much after a recent divorce. More about them - Malibu is black and white with blue eyes. She weighs about 55 pounds. Wolfy is black and white with long fur and brown eyes. He also weighs about 55 pounds. They are both fixed. Both loving and playful, get along well with other dogs. They haven't really spent any time around kids, so I can't vouch for them on that, but I would expect them to be fine. ... (Read More)Not good with cats - they chase them and tend to play a little too rough. They've been inside/outside dogs their whole lives. They're mostly content to stay outside until they get lonely or bored or too hot, then they scratch to come inside. Malibu tends to be more playful while Wolfy is more loving/cuddly. They're the best cuddle buddies at the end of a long day. They are house trained, although Malibu will use the bathroom in the floor if she's left inside by herself for long periods of time. For this reason, a fence is necessary. They don't do well being chained up (or on leashes for that matter). They get tangled up and howl a lot when they're chained up. They pull a lot on the leashes although they do better when they're taken for walks often (which I, unfortunately, haven't had the time to do for them lately). They shed a lot, so regular grooming is necessary. Bathing them on your own is very difficult because they don't like baths, so I take them to a groomer once a month. Wolfy has become an escape artist lately and has started digging underneath the fence, so it's important that you have a strong 'less-escapable' fence. Malibu has some anxiety issues when being left in the house by herself for long periods of time as well as going for car rides. She tolerates car rides, but she doesn't like it. She also has a 'nervous/excited bladder.' She tends to piddle a little bit when she's overexcited, although I've learned how to adjust my behavior in such a way that it has almost eliminated the issue, and I would be glad to share my 'tricks of the trade' with you. Wolfy tends to howl a lot when he hears sirens or other loud noises. It is very important to me to find a family for them that could provide a nice, safe yard and give them lots of love and attention. I would prefer for them to be taken together as they have been together for a long time, and I hate that I have to give them away as it is. UPDATE: March 2013-Calvin did a little community service and visited incarcerated teens at the detention center. He absolutely CAME ALIVE and was a happy, wiggly boy. He loved having so much love and attention lavished on him. He also was very silly, and enjoyed getting belly rubs and rolling on his back for laughs. He was confident and enjoyed everything, even strange sights like security doors and so forth. He is such a gentle fellow. (P) January 2013, Poor Calvin was abandoned, tied to a mailbox at a place of business. Perhaps that was his lucky day, actually, because he was terribly malnourished and covered in wounds. He suffered extreme starvation, but His training program at the shelter WORKED GREAT and he no longer guards his food here at the shelter or when he has had sleepovers with volunteers!! He has such a gentle mouth when giving treats. Rawhide-type chewies can still be an issue, so we make sure his treats come in a delicious stuffed Kong toy, instead. (P) He is looking for an an adult-only home experienced with offering positive feedback and training. Calvin is polite when walking on leash, and doesn't bark at other dogs and stays very polite (although he is a bit of a loner and has not actually wanted to make FRIENDS with other dogs). He was easy to walk around the neighborhood, and did not bark or pull on the leash when he saw other dogs. He also was perfectly polite when an unleashed dog ran right up to him.He also did a good cat intro with a kitty at the shelter. (P)Calvin is a smartie, and he is completely house trained. He has spent several long weekends doing sleepovers with a volunteer, and was a perfect house guest. He is also crate trained, or can hang out quietly on his own. (Read More)slightly longer coat of a BullMastiff. Because we were able to track down a previous owner, we have a little history about him in a real home. He does great in a home. He is potty trained, and trained to stay in a crate when home alone. He can become distressed when left alone, and if he is left in a car or house un-crated he will discover things to chew or destroy. He was social with other dogs and lived for several months with a cat. Here at the shelter he is anxious about spending 'alone time' in his kennel. In fact, he was getting so upset that we needed to find a way to reduce his anxiety about the small kennel and hearing/seeing other dogs, so he now has a private condo in a quiet outbuilding. But that gets little foot traffic from potential adopters. While that is not ideal, it has immediately helped him relax and feel safer. He is stressed by the other dogs that are barky and reacts poorly, but we are teaching him to remember his good social skills when greeting other dogs here. He has done several stellar meet'n'greets on walks with other dogs, but continues to generally be reactive when on leash. Leash reactivity is hard to 'fix' at the shelter, but he is in daily training to learn better leash manners and he is learning how to quickly settle himself down when inside with people. Partly because he is stressed out at the shelter, he does jump up on people and his play style can be rough, so we are recommending he go to a family who can help with his training, rather than get knocked over by his zest for life.
