Please, if you email an inquiry, please understand that these animals are in the shelter for a variety of reasons: Their lives are upside down maybe because owner died, they got lost, were abandoned, owner lost home or had a life event that left their pet in need of a new home. We don't always know how they will get along with all dogs, all children. Some won't be a perfect family member right away! They will need love, patience, a strong owner who will let them know what is expected of them and what they can expect from their new family. It may take an afternoon or it may take a week or so! But they need homes and families who will bring them back to knowing what family is! Puppies: Please understand they are puppies; not potty trained; not good or bad with kids, dogs, cats. You can make application via the Shelter Website: http://www.jocoshelter.com/#!adoptions/c6mv Note: Often times we are asked 'what about cats'?' Please be advised that we cannot guarantee a dog's behavior with a cat; sometimes the dog is fine with a cat- but cat not so happy about his canine intruder! When you do so, we can better address your inquiry. Dogs noted as a Great American Shelter Dog are noted as such because we are not sure of the breed and can only give out best guess. See more at: www.savethewhiskers.org Alternate Contact Raleigh@savethewhiskers.org or text 541 660 6578 name of dog. It is always nice if you send an inquiry about a specific adoptable guest via email to tell us about you, your family and other pets, your yard, and most importantly, your expectations of your new family member so we can answer your questions appropriately as best as possible. They are pliable puppies ready for you to imprint good manners, social skills and training. You are encouraged to follow up with training after they are finished with shot series and or at the direction of your veterinarian. A happy healthy well socialized puppy is a happy family! You may be asked to make a refundable deposit for spay/neutering. Inquire at the Shelter. General Adoption Fees for Dog: Adult dogs and puppies- $125, Senior dogs 7 and over $50. Veterans are half price / $62.50 with presentation of government issued VA ID. For Josephine County fee includes first year licensing. Please visit the shelter or if need special arrangements for meet and greet please email me. If you have a dog- encourage you to bring also. Staff may be unable to answer calls right away, so you may contact me via email if you cannot get to shelter right away! You are encouraged to make your best effort to go during normal business hours. If we know emphatically that a dog could take issue with a cat, livestock or chickens- will be stated in body of biography! Rottweiler Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Dudley is about 5-years-old and, as you can see, enjoys making himself comfortable! He loves people (especially when they give him belly rubs) and gets along with most dogs as long, as they are not dominant males. Like most Rotties, he's stubborn and head-strong. Dudley needs a good leader to keep boundaries intact. He would be good with older children. He had surgery at the beginning of May to repair cruciate (knee) ligaments on both rear legs. He still has a few weeks of recovery to go before he can be adopted. Dudley can be met and a deposit placed until that time comes. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and is microchipped.     Maddox is a very smart and loving boy. He is afraid of my husband though, and it is getting hard to live on eggshells with him. Some days he does great, and other days he is very afraid of my husband or even myself. He has done great with our other male pit bull and we walk at public parks regularly, and he greets other dogs happily. He would do best in a female only home. I also don't think children are a good option as it is hard to tell when he will get fearful. The ideal woman will have experience with positive reinforcement training and experience with fearful dogs. Please email me for more information.

PUPPIES WHO ARE STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION ARE: Delmar is an absolute sweetheart who would technically be considered the 'runt' of the litter. He has a quiet demeanor but he is far from shy. This is a puppy who wants peaceful pets while he falls asleep in your lap. He is not rambunctious or rowdy like most pups. When another puppy cries out, Delmar is the one who runs over to see if they are ok. On walks he gets tired more quickly than the others, so he sits down in front of me so that I will him the rest of the way home. He is a kind, gentle, caring little soul. He LOVES other dogs and my cat (he is very gentle/respectful with the cat). Evie is wearing the green collar: Evie is the undisputed leader of the pack. She is sweet and will walk up to you for scratches, but is not 'in your face' all of the time like some other puppies. She is happy entertaining herself and does not necessary always go along with whatever trouble the puppies are getting into. She loves my adult foster dog, and likes to pester the cat. (Less)

Bora is a great fun loving dog, gets along with kids, dogs and cats. She is a herding dog so she will herd other small dogs and animals. She also needs an area that is fenced in, preferably a farm as they get bored easily. I believe she may have been abused as a puppy as she piddles if she feels anxious around men. She has never shown any aggression. She loves to play fetch.

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I am Mr. Maverick Macphail - The Little Man I Am. I am a 4 year old neutered lovable bully. I was rescued by special arrangement after being sighted malnourished and neglected; I was 15 or more pounds underweight; I had so many sores on my body- and rot on my ears, and infections- I was skin and bones. My former owner's dad said if my owner - his son- couldn't afford to feed me- then he wasn't going to either- so I watched in the distance with a heavy chain around my neck as Grandpa's dog was fed- and I was left to fend for myself- and there wasn't much to forage in the remote junk filled property I was left on. But I was rescued! ... (Read More)However, I faced euthanization because I also tested positive for advanced heartworm. Not because the animal facility wanted to Put Me to Sleep, but because the cost of treatment and time for recovery is prohibitive to treat me! But- By special arrangement- I was rescued and treated! I was placed in a loving foster home and kept calm through my recovery. My foster parents were at first apprehensive- and truthfully think I am quite unattractive- but further note- that personality makes me shine- as I am a happy loving boy.- I have learned my good potty manners, I love to snuggle, and help keep you company as your do your choresin the yard. I am a bit discriminating about my canine buddies- and although I have done splendidly at the dog park- it really is not my favorite place; I would be so content to be your only pooch. I never have taken a liking to cats- they kind of irritate me! I'd so much rather it be a 'you and me' I love love to travel! I adore the car; I am so trying hard to earn my good leash manners- and if you be a bit patient with me- and let me know your expectations of me- I am sure I could be your prince. Life has been tough! But I have a forgiving nature- . I am a short stubby boy- weighing in now at 62 pounds. lI also have kinda Basset Hound feet- diagnosed as angler deformity- so my weight should be kept optimum as I could have a later arthritis as I age. With the care I have received from my foster family- I gained almost 14 pounds! In 4 months I will be ready to have another heart worm check; I come with 4 more months of heart worm chews as the last round of treatment. Everyone has every confidence I will be negative at the six month mark! The initial treatment- an arsenic based injection- was scary. But I figured if my Angels were willing to go that extra mile for me- and to look forward to traveling many miles with my new family- I would take it like a man- the little man I am! I have my rabies shot; I am potty trained; I am a happy boy! Will you be my heart worm Hero family? Tell my Auntie about yourself, about your family, your yard, your children- I love people of all ages and sizes- about your expectations of me, and what I can expect from you. I never ever want to be discarded again! I am important! I am an eager pleaser; I am worthy! You will have to make an investment in me, but I am so worth it! My name is Maverick MacPhail. If you want me- please fight for me and open your home for a home check and letter of reputation from your vet or appropriate reference. I am not a shelter dog. I am a private adoption. I am considered a special boy- so my guardian will really check you out! lol And I know you won't mind- because I am worth it! The little Man I am- Maverick MacPhail. I have to remind you if you don't tell my guardian about you and your family and all the rest- she will delete you. She wants the very best for me! (Less)

It is always nice if you send an inquiry about a specific adoptable guest via email to tell us about you, your family and other pets, your yard, and most importantly, your expectations of your new family member so we can answer your questions appropriately as best as possible. Staff may be unable to answer calls right away, so you may contact me via email if you cannot get to shelter right away! You are encouraged to make your best effort to go during normal business hours. Note: Often times we are asked 'what about cats'?' Please be advised that we cannot guarantee a dog's behavior with a cat; sometimes the dog is fine with a cat- but cat not so happy about his canine intruder! If we know emphatically that a dog could take issue with a cat, livestock or chickens- will be stated in body of biography! Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

buddy is a 5 year old pit bull/French bull dog mix. I have had for 4 years and adopted him at 1 year old from a shelter. I adopted him to be my emotional support animal and he has done wonders for me. it breaks my heart to find myself in the situation of needing to rehome him. I have recently left a neglectful/abusive relationship and have tried for the last 2 months to make my living situation work out with my dog, but it is not working to buddy's advantage. I am renting a room and working full time, and now attending school part time. I do not have the time or space to commit to him like he needs. my ex takes him for part of the time, but ... (Read More)his patience me is growing thin. it is only a matter time before he wont keep buddy at all for me. buddy sits in my room 9+ hours a day while I am gone. although I do come home on my lunch break to give him a potty, its not enough. he needs someone who can be there for him. he is the most loving and sweet dog. according to his paperwork from the shelter I adopted him from, he was tied up outside for most of his first year of life. he was sun burnt when I got him. the only commands he knew were 'sit down' and 'shut up'. he now knows many tricks and commands and loves to learn. I think he was picked on by kids, as he is not good with small children, so I recommend no kids under 12, older is even better. he loves walks, runs and bike rides and of course snacks. he does have food allergies that I have narrowed down. NO chicken, grains, or potato/sweet potato. he gets yeast infections otherwise.Ive found his tummy is sensitive to duck and lamb. I'm currently feeding him a brand called signature that is fish, grain free and potato free and he is doing wonderful on it. he also has seasonal allergies and is on Claritin during the allergy season. due to being mixed with French bull dog, he also occasionally has back problems. the vet narrowed it down to being a slipped disc. he has had 2 back flares in the 4 years ive had him. it is best to avoid excessive jumping and other activities that may tweak his back, which is sometimes hard to avoid with his energy level. he is ball obsessed, but no aggressive about It. he does well with most dogs, but seems to not know exactly how to socialize with other dogs, but puts in a good effort. I feel he was possibly taken from his mom too soon and then neglected at his first home. he needs a family who is willing to take on the financial responsibility of his health and willing to commit time to his needs of exercise and lack of social interaction. a family with other dogs and a yard to play in would most likely be a major benefit to him. he is an amazing dog, an amazing companion, fun to be with and fun to watch. he is absolutely worth all of the effort he will need from you. he will come with any food that is left and all of his supplies. he has multiple beds, toys, leashes/collars and harnesses, food bowls, back packs, allergy supplies, crate (which he is not fully crate trained), food storage container, sweaters, and other items. please give me text or email if you interested or have questions. adoption fee is negoiable, finding him a good proper home is my priority, but it needs to happen as soon as possible.     Hi, I'm Bono and I'm a love muffin' bonafide. Not too modest and not too much pride. Weighin' in at 80 with legs that are stocky; a sweet little face, I'm no carbon copy. Friends I have plenty and we love to chase lizards. What I need now is my own bro or sister. A mama or papa with whom I could dwell. Adoration and love, that would be swell. When pondering life, I'm a little aloof. Needless to say, I am no big goof. While friendly and loving are really great traits, they don't mean a thing when you are displaced. Lovingly yours, Bono - Love Muffin' Bonafide. Bono's MO - ~1 year old, 80 lbs. Very friendly with dogs and people.

Oreo is a mellow kind of fella looking for a home to call his own. Oreo walks great on a leash, he is house trained, comes with a whistle, and is an overall good boy! Oreo is fully vaccinated, neutered and micro - chipped. He can be a bit shy and aloof when you first meet him, but when he smiles - he could light the world. Oreo, being such a mellow guy, he has not done well with all the commotion of shelter life. One of his human friends at the shelter has taken Oreo home to give him a little break. We hate the thought of taking Oreo back to the shelter, but his friend has his own dogs and simply cannot keep Oreo forever. Oreo will do ... He currently lives with big and small dogs that are of the same temperament and calmness that he is - Oreo is doing beautifully with his foster family. Since he's a big boy, older kids would be best.     Mae is a very well behaved, well tempered beautiful white, German Shepherd. She has grown up in our family of 3 boys from the time she was 12 weeks old. After going through a difficult divorce process, we do not have the time to give Mae all the love and attention that she deserves. We hope she can be placed in a home where she will get long walks and lots of time chasing a tennis ball. Mae has never had a health problem or destroyed a piece of furniture. While she does enjoy chasing the occasional cat around the neighborhood, she generally comes when called and likes to stay close to home.

Dotty is very protective over women! Small children frighten her...especially when they shriek. I need training, activity and stuff to do. I am potty trained and have started training classes with my current owner....I also love the dog park! I am not great on a leash so I need some firm guidance, but I am happy to learn. My current owners are older and are struggling a bit to give me the boundaries ... (Read More)and consistency I need. I am up to date on all my shots and come with a dog bed, leash, collar, etc. I currently live in Salem, but have people who will happily drive me to meet you. My owners do not want me to end up back in a shelter so they are doing everything they can to find me a good forever home. I am kid friendly and dog friendly, I am not great with smaller animals. Please send us a message if you're interested. I have a great personality and I bet you'll love me! Professional Trainer Opinion - The other good news is that crate training (done right) will be a huge blessing in disguise for him. It will keep him out of trouble and if he is in the right home, will not be over used. A good home for him is one where he will be outdoors hiking or running for hours every day. Find someone who wants a dog to jog or hike with them, and who is patient and willing to put the work into him that he needs. I would not suggest a typical family for this dog. He will need too much work. But a young adult who is looking for a mate would do well. (Less)

I am looking for a new home for him. He is very loveable, has gotten along with all other pets until now. He even cuddles with our cat. Great with kids. He is up to date on all his vaccinations. He does take medication for hypothyroidism and allergies. Can you help us keep our dog safe and find him a new home? I do not want him euthanized. He is a great pet.

Norman *FOSTERED IN MEDFORD OREGON AREA* Norman is a very handsome young man about 3 years old. He weighs 77 pounds and its mostly muscle. He really is loved by his family but there are young children in the mix. When they get excited and try to play hide and seek etc, he feels he has to herd them up and sometimes this involves a nip. The family feels he is just not comfortable with children and feels a home w/o them would be best suited for him. He had been trained in obedience and even in search and rescue but he liked going off and sniffing critters too much. . Norman is very social about town and has quite the fan club on his ... (Read More)walks. He loves to greet the storeowners and gets treats everywhere he goes. He will do anything for a treat and is quite the clown. He would not make a good yard dog. He wants to be part of your family. Norman loves to cuddle on the couch. He will chase a ball for a bit or a stick but neither of them hold his interest. He does have quite a few squeak toys and tug of war toys that he loves to play with. He likes most dogs but sometimes gets a little intimidated with dogs that are larger than he is I usually have to explain to him as we approach the bigger dog that he is big also and this settles him. Smaller dogs are fine too but he especially likes dogs that are about his same size so he can wrestle with them. He is housebroken and good on a leash. He does not pull and he does love to sniff and mark his territory about town. When I take him out in the country to familiar areas and let him run about w/o a leash he will run out of eye sight for a bit but always comes back. He does love to chase off deer and critters but will always come back, (We do not encourage Norman to be allowed to chase wild life). Norman would enjoy living with another dog a little younger than him whom he could play with or a couple who would give him a lot of attention and exercise or at least allow Norman to have play dates at a doggie day camp with dogs his size as he does in Oregon or another doggy friend that would be his best buddy but doesn't necessarily live with him. .     Hi! My name is Cheeze; I'm adorable, affectionate, loyal and smart! As you can see, I'm also very handsome. I'm a 4 year old pit bull lab mix. I'm currently being fostered and looking for my forever family! Because of my loyal nature, I'd really thrive best in a home with one or two adults and a secure yard where we can russle and play fetch! As an added bone, I am a total cuddle bug! My 'pit fall' is I need a little basic training.

She is extremely happy with people and wants to snuggle. She is great with kids. Petunia was attacked in the shelter over food and as a result has a little bit of a food/resource guarding issue. At this time, Petunia is very reactive to other dogs. We are really hoping to find a foster or forever home that will be willing to work with her on overcoming this and/or keeping her safely as an only dog. She has so many wonderful qualities and will thrive in the right environment! We offer access ... (Read More)to free online training videos to all JMM fosters and adopters!
