After contacting the rescue center, we discovered the family that owned him previously had neglected him, left him outside, and let his ear infections fester. We adopted him after a few days, but his ear infections posed a problem. After several years, his ear infections have not improved. We had surgeries, at home treatments, and frequent bathing and haircuts, but this did not stop his infection. She had to be shaved down, but her lovely silver fur will grow back soon. She has cropped ears, and a docked tail. We will update as we evaluate her personality and skills. Not all our dogs are totally house trained at the time of adoption. We crate train them or potty pad train and work on potty skills. When your application is approved, you will speak with the foster Mom and can get more information about how far along the foster dog is in potty and social skills. Dogs learn quickly, and most are pretty far along or trained by the time of adoption. However, you should always expect some adjustment when moving a dog to a new home. Adopters must be prepared to continue training and socialization after adoption. Dixie has been examined by our vet, has had a 5/1 annual shot, kennel cough vaccine, a rabies shot and tag, has been dewormed, heartworm tested and passed, and has been spayed or neutered before adoption. Our rescues are on flea/tick and heartworm monthly preventatives in season. We also do a dental if our vet deems it necessary, which is included in our adoption fee. Our adoption fee covers all vetting expenses, and a small donation to cover the dogs' food and care. You will receive a lifetime prepaid microchip registration, and a 60-day limited trial for pet insurance from a third party. We send your new dog home with a copy of all vet paperwork, adoption papers, a small bag of the dog food they have been eating, and information on taking care of the dog. Also included is a health folder for your vet, and notes from our foster mom on the dog's schedule, habits and socialization skills. We also have a Facebook page for our adopters, and we have a volunteer who can answer questions on training your new pet. Please note: Some of our dogs need a fenced in yard, and this is specified where required. If you do not have a fenced in yard, we require that you purchase an exercise pen so the dog can be safe when outside. These are available online for less than $60, and you must bring proof of purchase to your adoption appointment. Most of our dogs are small, and cannot be tied out. We adopt our rescue dogs to adopters in Ohio and some other states within driving distance of the foster family. We do NOT ship our dogs--the adoptive parents must meet the dog at the foster's home. This will give the adoptive family a chance to meet the dog before they adopt. Our dogs are fostered in NE Ohio and surrounding areas. Please make sure you are willing to drive to pick up the dog within 2 weeks of being approved, and check the distance to the foster home per the location above. I am willing to give $300 for food and supplies to take him. He would be really great for an older retired person or for a family who is looking for a low maintenance kind of dog. We rescued Ty from a breeder in NJ at 7 months old (early April). He had never been around other dogs except for his siblings and parents, and he had never left his house and backyard. I hoped that we could help him become more normal, but our family and living situation (on a college campus with lots of other dogs and people walking around all of the time) has been too much for him. We have worked with a great dog behaviorist, but his lack of socialization early on is making him unable to adjust to our family. Instead of receding, his fear of other people and dogs is increasing. He needs a quiet home to slowly begin trusting his people ... (Read More)and surroundings. Older children who know how to act around a fearful and insecure dog would probably be fine. He has not been neutered yet, but that is only because we wanted to give him a few weeks to adjust to us before a traumatic surgery. He is current on all of his shots. Unfortunately, there are just too many adjustments for Ty to make successfully. An experienced shepherd owner is our first choice, as he needs to work with one or two people and not be overwhelmed with people and other animals. He is learning to respect our cats, and he loves our medium sized terrier, but upon initial meeting, he is very fearful and lunges and barks at other dogs/people. I have spent a lot of time working with Ty, and he is a very sweet and loving dog when he is feeling comfortable in his environment (which is with our immediate family in our house and pretty much no where else). However, after talking for quite a with our trainer, she recommended that we find him another home as soon as possible. There is just too much for him to handle, and he is not equipped. He has a lot of Basenji traits. He startles easily and loves to sleep on the couch for a good portion of the day. He loves to play outside and often sun baths during the summer months. He is up to date on all shots. He does suffer from slight skin allergies. We can supply you with all medical records. I do not suggest that he be in a household with small children. He gets along very well with children of all ages but has a tendency to chew on toys until he understands they are not his. This is one of the reasons that we wish to find him a new home. (Read More)My mom has two cats and a dachshund. We were unaware of Fancy's discontent with other animals until we moved in. She is so sweet and the kids jump all over her. but the second she has access to the other animals, she thinks they're chew toys and goes after them. She attacked the dachshund twice already and has tried to get the cats through a sliding glass door. At this point, we keep Fancy cordoned in the living room and the dachshund in one of the bedrooms. Our fear of taking her with us to the new house is that it will most likely result in a death sentence for her because if she gets out and attacks someone's animal, they will surely kill her. We really do love her, but I feel if we take her it will end badly due to our selfishness.
