Pointer Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hunter is a precious young soul, he was stray fending for himself, dehydrated & starving when he heard the dogs at the kill shelter & presented himself there with tail wagging looking to make friends & maybe get fed. Workers admitted him, it was noted that Hunter had one beautiful blue had one beautiful blue eye, and his other eye was partially missing due to being injured. No one claimed Hunter and nobody applied to adopt him, perhaps fearing potentially large medical bills due to severely damaged eye. We were contacted by a Shelter Volunteer with pictures & told us how he wandered up as a injured stray but captured hearts of shelter ... (Read More)staff & volunteers. Now he was out of time & shelter was full... euthanasia would have been his fate had we not stepped up in faith to save him. Our veterinarians took care of his nueter, vaccines, kennel cough, HW & Lyme test ect.. and Hunters Foster home nursed him back to a healthy weight, acclimated him to indoor living, a comfortable bed, good food, taught him basic social skills, how to walk on leash, crate & potty trained him & gave him plenty of guidance and %BD%9D%A4%BD%BD%8F . Hunter is a very sweet boy who loves chewing on bones, sharing his toys with his friends, fetching, hanging outside with his foster family or lounging on the couch watching TV. Hunter has moderate energy level & Will make some fortunate person or family and awesome and devoted companion. (Less)

Yorkie    Age: Senior

Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I would like to Introduce to you Gold Nugget... Mr. Nugget was dumped on the Streets of Manhatten completely matted, with serve matting under his eyes, and rotted teeth. This tiny little 7 pound precious soul was just dumped to fend for himself. At one time I do believe he was a cherished member of a family and then something had to have gone wrong in his life. You see Mr. Nugget is house trained he will go outside to potty however if you miss a potty break he will also use a pee pad but truly prefers to go outside. He walks excellent on a leash. He loves to be in the same room as his family if not he will bark and let you know you forgot ... (Read More)him in another room. He really has not been sitting in my lap however he does sit beside me whenever I am in the room with him and he doesn't leave my side to far. He is not a fan of being brushed he loves the wild look and if you do get him brushed and looking pretty he will shake it off and go back to the wild look again. He is okay with a bath but he does prefer you do not take your time and get the job done. I have been trimming his hair on the fly he is not a big fan of that either, he maybe different with a professional groomer, however, that is just not in the rescue budget so I have been doing it a little here and there. Even though he is an older gentleman he still has alot of life left in him and would make someone a wonderful companion. He is such a sweet guy and so deserves a wonderful home, where he will once again be a cherished member of a loving family. The adoption fee will depend on how far I have to drive to do the home inspection. We do have an application process, which you will need to either call me or e-mail me to receive. I also do a personal home check with Mr. Nugget to make sure the home is a good match for him as well as you. Thank you for taking the time to read Mr. Nugget's Story and we do truly look forward to hearing from you.. (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This adorably, affectionate, jubilantly joyous, effervescent eager to please, wiggly well-behaved playfully puppy-like boy is Knuckles. Knuckles is a 45lb three-ish year-old male Pit bull terrier. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. He walks well on leash wearing a harness or a training slip-lead. Knuckles knows: Sit, Shake, Wait and Crate. Knuckles arrived with itchy skin and ear-infections likely due to allergies; which are being managed with a good-quality diet, weekly baths and daily medication. Knuckles is being fostered in a home with another dog and they get along very well together. He enjoys playing and sleeping with her. ... (Read More)Although he is house-trained Knuckles is crated when left alone. His foster people believe he would be fine with free roam under most circumstances, after a brief period of adjustment. Knuckles does not live with cats or other small animals and has not been 'tested,' but, seems interested when he sees them outside. He also does not live with children, but meets them in the neighborhood and is fine when they stop to pet him. Knuckles loves to watch out the window when he is indoors. He is full of personality and enjoys communicating with a variety of sounds. If you talk to him and ask him questions, he will 'talk' back in reply. Knuckles' happiness is contagious-watching him flip in mid-air, toss his toys and blanket, and flop onto his back, rolling and wiggling all the while talking to you-it is impossible not to smile and laugh. Knuckles soaks up human attention like one savors a very fine meal, with pleasure. He especially enjoys having his butt rubbed-his hind quarters lower to the ground with his head raised as if he is practicing a yoga pose-like he is 'melting' into the floor. Knuckles is a very social dog who would thrive in a home with another dog to play with or with a person or family that would provide him lots of love and attention. He is excellent in the car, so if you lead a busy life, take Knuckles with you. Don't be a knuckle-head and let this endearing dog be the one that got away-apply now! Rescue Me ID: 17-09-04-00021Dana (female)

Flat-Coated Retriever Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Dana is a beautiful 40 pound retriever mix. She was listed as a one year old, and from what the foster parents initially observed, did not appear to have had much structure or guidance. Dana is a smart girl, and so eager to learn and please, which has made her time at the foster home extremely productive and gratifying. Nothing makes Dana happier then to have a job; she's all focus. She is a high energy pup who is up for any adventure and will do best with daily exercise. She loves a good game of fetch, and has been enjoying her daily swims in the river. She can tend to be highly excitable, so working and talking with her in a calming ... (Read More)manner is key. With that being said, she has made great progress in calming herself. A good bone, or squeaky toy for her to put her attention has helped. Due to Dana's energy, excitability, and strength levels, her foster parents are not thinking cats or young children are a good match for her at this time. But she has been around some older, respectful, dog savvy children, and just loves the attention. She does very well in her crate, using it at night and when she is left alone. Dana is currently residing with a 9 year old Golden Retriever, and they get along fine. Dana would most likely do best with other dogs who enjoy playing. With lower energy pups, she would need more careful introductions, as not all dogs will appreciate her joyful exuberance! Dana will grab shoes or socks for attention. Dana is working on 'leaving it,' and has made good progress. Dana is an affectionate pup who enjoys a good rub down, snuggle, or belly scratch and who loves the attention that goes with it. Day by day, Dana continues to grow into her full potential. With consistent guidance, boundaries, and direction from a confident leader, Dana will thrive and continue on to be her very best self and a wonderful companion. Tony is reactive to other dogs and as such can not be off leash, taken to dog parks or doggie daycare. Please fill out an application on our website at; www.vermontenglishbulldogrescue.com

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Vermont
Dogs can make good pets in Vermont if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
