Rat Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lexi is a beautiful 6-year-old Decker Rat Terrier. Lexi is very well crate trained and is leashed trained. As she has a very inquisitive nature, she will need a fenced yard but if you have wide-open spaces, this girl loves to run. She is a high energy; high anxiety dog but LOVES to cuddle and enjoys people once she warms up to you. True to her breed, she is enamored with chasing cats and small animals, so a house without small dogs or cats would probably be best. Lexi also finds children to be confusing and therefore should be in a household with no small children. She is very dominant, and so needs a good leader and someone who can work ... Animal ID: LizzyLizzy (female)

Boxer    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Lizzy! She was orphaned when her 'parent's got a divorce and neither could find a place to live that allowed Fur-kids... She is an absolute joy, very happy girl, easy going with all humans and likes the foster sibling who is a cat, but she doesn't seem to like other dogs. The shelter who we rescued her from tells us that she was adopted the 'last time' from their when she was unclaimed as a stray a few years ago... It is our belief that there was some kind of harm done to her by other dogs prior to her last home as she is very shut down and fearful around other dogs and will sit and growl at them. We think she is best to go to a home ... (Read More)where she will be the only doggie.. she is great with cats and even her foster brother the parrot... but not good for her to be around dogs. Lizzy has wonderful house manners, is very well housebroken, knows sit, stay, High five, come, and more...She is extremely gentle and loving toward humans and cats, a real easy going gal..gentle on the leash wags tail and just loves the walks and time spent next to her human foster parents... Lizzy will make a wonderful family member . Apply to adopt her today if you think you can give her the love and devotion she deserves.     HELLO THERE! I am an amazingly sweet purebred boxer boy who was rescued and saved from kill shelter in south. I have a few scars on my legs, head, neck and ears but after being with this amazing foster family, it seems i am not at all affected by my past life of abuse or neglect. I am perfectly mannered, I obey basic commands, love rides in car, walk gentle on leash, play well with other dogs and i frequently cuddle up and sleep with my foster brother the cat...sometimes i even give him a bath. My rescuers will only let me go to a home who can commit to loving me for the rest of my life, caring for me in every way, treating me like a ... (Read More)member of their family. I am to be an indoor family member, never tied out to live like a lawn ornament. Anyone wishing to become my forever home must apply and give references, get interviewed, and in home inspection and meeting with entire household required for rescue to determine if you are a good home for me. this Rescue places dogs in home that best meets dogs needs, not the first one to apply. they reserve right to refuse adoption to anyone for any reason, dogs who have come into our care are our primary concern. I AM AN EXCELLENT GENTLE DOG WHO DESERVES A WONDERFUL LOVING FOREVER HOME. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Vermont
Dogs can make good pets in Vermont if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
