Rescue Me ID: 13-05-12-00189Batman (male)
Batman is a great dog!! He's been with us almost 8 months. I know he's trainable, I just don't have the time. He spends a lot of time in his kennel while I'm at work. He's not great with small children - he hasn't bitten anyone, but does show aggression towards them. He wants to please us and is very lovable but he is more work than I have time for at this point. I want him to go to a good home where he can be the watch dog he wants to be and be able to run and play.

Rescue Me ID: 13-03-31-00284Hilde (female)
Hilde is an active Jack Russell with a sweet loving nature, especially with people. She is not good with other dogs and has not been around children, and can be very possessive. Very intelligent, agile and loves attention. Well trained, housebroken, and easy to train. Needs a new home without other dogs due to possessive nature. She is available immediately, as well as one of her male offspring (HJ) to good home. Has been around horses and other farm animals, not fearful of large animals or cats. |Rescue Me ID: 13-03-19-00090Rusty (male)|
Rusty is a sweet young boy rescued out of Miami high kill. He is microchipped and up to date on shots and neutered! He is a typical puppy where he likes to play and is eager to please. Rusty is not going to be a big dog, at nearly a year he is only fifty pounds. Rusty is great with other dogs but would thrive in a home as an only dog or one of two... possibly with an older dog as a buddy. Rusty needs some work on basic obedience but is housebroken and crate trained. He would do well in a family that was active. Overall Rusty is a sweet boy who loves to play and loves attention!! If you have some time to devote to teaching him the basics with soft corrections he will be a great addition to your home! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 13-03-01-00155Cooper (male)
Cooper is a 6 year old boy who really, really wants his own furever home! Currently he is in a home with several other dogs and he does not get along with the other male Cattledog in the house. So, Cooper has to be sequestored to a small room most of the time. Cooper just wants his own people -- he loves to go for walks and is very playful! He is also super smart. He will soon be neutered and is up to date on his vaccines. He is quite healthy and as far as we know, he is a pure Australian Cattle Dog, but we don't have papers for him. Cooper is house trained and good with all people and most dogs. He does have some seperation anxiety, but this could be easily trained away when he has his own people to focus on him. His adopters must currently live in the Vermont - New Hampshire - Maine area. This would be a private adoption, but a phone interview, veterinarian reference, a meet and greet, and home visit will be required. We want Cooper to have the very best new home possible. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Vermont
Dogs can make good pets in Vermont if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.
Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
