Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Gully was found by a hunter in AL who heard his cries from under a pile of trash about a mile and a half into the woods. He was about 5 weeks old at the time and very affectionate. He spent the next 3 weeks in a loving foster home in AL eating nutritious food, socializing with people & dogs, and getting lots of love. The vet feels that Gully is an Australian Shepherd mix. He is very fluffy & soft. He has a great personality and enjoys playing. He has not been tested with cats, but this is a great time to introduce him. We can provide resources to assist you. Gully's foster mom shared that he does not like being in the crate. He doesn't ... (Read More)show any signs of separation anxiety, but may feel claustrophobic when he's confined. She's had great success keeping him in a puppy proofed room and blocking the doorway with a baby gate. This allowed him to safely be free while his foster mom was at work. Bean bags are a favorite for Gully (pic below). He sleeps in them, stashes toys away in the folds, and will drag it from place to place to use as a ladder to reach a chair or couch easily. He's a crafty pup! Gully is up to date on vaccines and has been neutered. As a puppy, he will need to be housebroken and learn how to walk on a leash. Our adoption fee is $350 which includes age appropriate vaccines (Distemper, Bordetella, Parvo), spay/neuter, worming, microchipping, and health exam. Discount vouchers for training, grooming and similar dog related products and services are provided. (Less)

chesley is a sweet 1 year old English Bulldog. He is neutered, current on vaccines, HW negative and on preventative and ready for his new home. Chesley is a puppy still and as such has a lot of energy but not out of line with his age. He came from a home where he was not taught basic manners but is learning. Saint Bernard Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hobo is 5-7 years old and had lived inside a home in his early years. When his person became ill and could no longer care for him, he was moved outside. He was free to roam in a fenced in yard and had a dog house for shelter, but he spent a lot of time alone in his older years. When his person passed away, her house was put up for sale and he had to leave his home. Rather than be taken to the local high kill shelter where he would not have a chance of ever walking out - volunteers stepped in and asked if we could help. We booked him a spot on the next transport and brought him to VT. Hobo's entire world was turned upside down and he has ... (Read More)handled the changes with grace. People say eyes are the window to the soul... Hobo's eyes are full of love. He is a great companion. His eyes light up when we talk with him and he is a skilled listener. Hobo has a heart of gold and would love to have a person of his own to hang out with again. He's been so very brave but due to spending most of his time alone, he doesn't pick up on all of the social cues other dogs do. We are working with a trainer to help him with this. This handsome dog is crate trained, house broken and has great leash skills. Although he enjoys his daily walks, Hobo is also happy curled up in front of the wood stove napping or having his belly rubbed. He is a fluffy mix of several breeds - people have shared they see Shepherd, St. Bernard, Husky, Collie, Retriever, and Akita in him. He's a true Heinz 57 weighing 75-80 lbs. His ideal companion will be someone who is experienced with dogs and willing to help him adjust to a new life. Hobo's adopter will receive 3 private lessons with one of our trainers to continue fine tuning his skills. VT Dog Rescue will pay for the 3 training sessions. Hobo is heartworm negative, neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. He is affectionate with people, but finds cats a bit too exciting. Please consider welcoming Hobo into your life. He will be your loyal friend and devoted companion. Our adoption fee is $350 which includes age appropriate vaccines (such as Rabies, Distemper, Bordetella, Parvo), spay/neuter, worming, microchipping, and health exam. He hasn't lived with young children, but as a pup, we think he'd be okay with older children (he's a bit high energy, so he might knock a younger child down). He's learned sit, down, and wait for food. He's also doing great with his house training, he's working on his crate training, and he's making some marvelous strides with his leash walking. John is quiet in the house, and he isn't a big barker. He will whine in his crate when the family leaves for the day. John is very good at keeping ... (Read More)himself entertained, chewing bones and playing with toys, Foster mom says that she does keep an eye on him because he is still young, and he will chew on things he shouldn't. He will mouth and jump, but he responds well to the use of a spray bottle for correction, and that's a very good thing! He's affectionate, joyful, playful, and eager to please. He's a true puppy, ready to love and be loved! Foster mom says he's a great cuddle buddy, and he often will rest his head on her shoulder to be near. Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Up for adoption: Olive. This cutie can be adopted in Texas and New England. Olive is about 7 months old and weighs 50lbs. She is house broken and crate trained. She's a great mix of moderate to high energy but also crashes out and relaxes. Olive likes other dogs, not sure about cats, she hasn't been around them in her foster home. Olive doesn't have kids in her foster home, but the ones she's met she's been good with. She is good with strangers, walks well on a leash (pulls a bit when she's excited but she is still a pup) and she likes to ride in the car. Olive is sweet without being clingy and does great with people and dogs. ... (Read More)Olive loves outings of any kind. She can be scared the first time she encounters something, but is a very quick learner. She has come so far and learned a ton in the short time she has been out of the shelter, her entire mom and pup family was dumped there! This pup is curious, smart and watchful. If she gets excited and vocal, she has learned to sit and quiet down to get what she wants- out of her kennel, out the door for a walk or into the car. With patience and consistency she is a fantastic student and a wonderful and quite big puppy. Olive is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Apply at www.luckylabrescue.com (Less)

Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Up for adoption and Texas and New England: meet Lucy! Lucy was found in a field - very pregnant and infested with fleas. Lucky Lab saw the post and knew we had to help her. Within three days, she had five (5) puppies. She was a good mom, and all her puppies have been adopted to loving homes. She is 60 lbs, 1-1/2 - 2 years old, loves to ride in the car, good with kids, adults, and dogs, although she is timid when first meeting other dogs. Once she warms up, she is very playful. She is submissive, so will not try to compete for the alpha position. She has met a few cats, and was curious, but not aggressive. She just stared at them. ... (Read More) The first few months we had Lucy, her tail was always tucked - even when she wagged. Now, her tail stands out like a 'normal' dog, and she has gained so much confidence. She's still a little awkward when she gets excited and she's not a good model (she is quirky - when you try to take her picture, she rolls and moves around, and does everything but pose pretty, although she is gorgeous). If your tone is the slight bit negative, she cowers and retreats to her kennel. It is sad how she frightens so easily, but, she snaps out of it as soon as she realizes she is not in trouble. Her fur is so soft, and she is a great cuddler. She does not bark much, but when she does, it's usually when she is playing with another dog. She loves laying in the yard and hanging out outside. Lucy has never had an accident inside the house. She is dog-door and crate trained. She does need lots of toys to keep her occupied, else, she will make anything she finds her toys. She is now spayed, up-to-date on shots and heartworm medication, flea-free, and ready for a loving home. She will make an outstanding addition to any family. Could that be with you ? I really think I'd prefer to be in a home where there is another dog for me to spend time with since it helps me to feel more confident in myself. I'm not so great on a leash yet, but I love to go on walks. I tend to get anxiety in my kennel, but since I'm such a good dog, my foster parents have stopped making me go in there and let me lounge around the house when they have to leave. We even have a mamma cat who just had her kittens and I'm really good at just looking and not being a naughty dog with the cats.     Hi, Sparkles here! I arrived from Alabama not too long ago. It sure is cold here in Vermont, but I am adjusting quickly. I love playing in the snow and taking walks with my foster mom. She says it's important for me to have daily exercise so I stay out of trouble. Me, trouble? I like my kong and nylabone, but I haven't mastered the whole 'fetch' thing yet. Playing with dogs is fun, and I lived with cats in my former AL foster home. My foster mom says I am the perfect size at 30 lbs. Even though I'm not very big, I can pull on the leash when I get excited. Hopefully, my new family can continue working with me on my leash skills. I'm ... (Read More)getting much better! My human foster sister is allowed to take me out now. We have a lot of fun exploring. I live with two human kids (ages 11 & 14), along with my foster mom and dad. I can be a bit on the nervous side (this will happen to you when you've had a difficult start to life like I've had) so I really like routine and a leader who will make me feel safe. Although I like children, it's best if I am with respectful older children who are a little more predictable than the ones who are my size. I am housebroken and crate trained. My crate makes me feel safe. I sleep there at night and like to go in and out during the day at my leisure. Belly rubs are the best! If you are willing to pet me, I will lay by your side all day. Sometimes, I have bursts of energy - my foster mom calls them 'zoomies'. These outbursts make my foster family giggle. I might be a bit quirky! I was on my own for a while, and didn't know when food would come again, so I eat quickly. My foster mom is trying to get me to slow down. What can I say? I'm a bit of a gobbler! I absolutely love and crave human attention. Not to brag, but I am the best snuggler around! I would like my forever family to be patient and consistent. With security, I can reach my full potential and blossom into a loyal family member. I love my foster family, but I am ready to find a family of my own. Do I sound like your forever dog? Our adoption fee is $350 which includes age appropriate vaccines (such as Rabies, Distemper, Bordetella, Parvo), spay/neuter, worming, microchipping, and health exam. Crew is an affectionate boy who enjoys long snuggles and being a couch potato. He really craves human companionship and easily forms a strong bond with his person. He is trusted with free roam when his person is out. Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Reggie and George-A Bonded Pair Available for Adoption in the Midwest and New England Reggie and George are litter mates and came into Lucky Lab Rescue as owner surrenders. They are very dependent on each other and must be adopted together. We don't know what happened in their previous home, but obviously George and Reggie did not have a lot of human interaction and they were not exposed to any part of human life. They are scared and timid and try desperately to hide behind each other. They turn their backs to the new world, almost hoping that you don't notice them. Which is a shame, because these two are the most loving, sweetest, ... (Read More)gorgeous dogs you will ever meet. It will take several weeks to fully earn your trust, but when you do, they give back in spades. Reggie loves life! He has blossomed in foster care and has really come into his own. When Reggie runs he has a bounce in his step and you just know he is happy. He loves treats and toys and maybe he loves his toys a little too much. Reggie has a habit of going around the house and stealing the toys from the other dogs and taking them into his room where his crate is. However, he is also fine with the other dogs coming and stealing the toys right back. This just adds to the fun. Reggie will steal his way right into your heart. George is a lover and enjoys snuggling up to you on the couch. He is a sucker for a good scratch behind his ears. George is very dependent on his littermate Reggie and will often use Reggie as a shield and will wait for Reggie to take the lead in new situations. We are working on getting George to be more independent and confident. George is slowly coming out of his shell in foster care and is starting to gain confidence. George must have access to his crate 24/7 as he sees his crate as his secure and safe area. He will often go to his crate when he is overwhelmed or when new people enter the house. George enjoys running outside with his numerous 4-legged foster siblings. He loves treats and toys. George is very sweet and gentle and loves to give those awesome doggie kisses. Reggie and George would do best with another confident dog in the house. They are gaining confidence and independence but still depend on each other for support. Reggie and George are two 'homedoggies' and may never be comfortable going to the dog park, or Petco, or even riding in the car. But on the flip side, once they are comfortable in your home they are so loving and so sweet. They give kisses freely. They love to snuggle up on your lap. They live to be petted and loved on!!! Reggie and George are crate trained and house trained. They are neutered, up to date on vaccinations, micro chipped and have been on heartworm/tick preventative. Rescue Me ID: 17-01-01-00155George (male)

If you might have a special place in your heart for these two sweet boys, please go to www.luckylabrescue.com and fill out an online application indicating your interest in Reggie and George in the notes section. He loves to be with you and will give you hugs and kisses. He is snuggly and loving and looks forward to bedtime each night. He would do best in a home where someone is there most of the day. Rescue Me ID: 16-11-16-00012LIZA (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Miss Liza. She is a people pleaser and is very eager to be with her people. Liza attaches quickly to her caregiver, and there are times that she needs to be reminded that she can have a life of her own! ;) She's learning that her people aren't going to disappear, and she can relax even if they aren't right there. Liza is a 4 year old, 52 pound retriever mix. She was treated for heart worm in the fall, and has been restored to full health. She's a high energy girl who loves to run, loves to walk, loves to play fetch'|loves to move! She is house trained, crate trained, and she walks well on a leash with a confident leader. She knows sit ... (Read More)and come, and she has an excellent recall (especially if you have a ball!), she also is very close to understanding 'stay.' She's very eager to play with other dogs, and can be a bit pushy so would do best with an equally playful dog of her size. Due to her excitability and strong desire to play with dogs, we are specifically looking for a home for her that does not have small dogs as we do not feel she would respect their boundaries. She lived with a cat in her foster home and did okay with that. Still proper and slow introductions are a must with the feline species! She hasn't spent any time with children, but with her high energy, we think that she will do best with older children. She would make an excellent hiking or running partner for an active owner. Foster mom says that she exercises Liza an average of an hour a day, and after that'|.Liza might think about resting! And you should know that Liza can be a very aggressive snuggler! She absolutely loves to cuddle, and the only nippiness the family has seen has come when she is kissing their ears and chin in her joy at being cuddled! She is learning the ropes of the house, and foster mom has been impressed with how much she has learned in such a short time. Liza is nothing if she is not a quick learner. Foster mom has been amazed at how eager Liza is to please the people of the house. If you meet Liza and see the affection, the eagerness to please, the joyful, playful, bouncy, fun loving girl she is, you will find that she is worth the bit of effort it may take to bring out the confident dog that's in there! Rescue Me ID: 16-11-03-00009Percy (male)

Newfoundland Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

'He is a joy. I have been so blessed to have him here, and I have no problem with him living his life out here, but by chance there's someone else out there that he can bond with, I want to give him that opportunity. To watch him learn to grow and trust, to be playful and silly with the dogs has been an amazing experience.. To see a dog that was so.shut down they (shelter staff) said he had no personality, come to life and enjoy it is something words can't describe..' We thought foster mom's words would be the best introduction. Percy came to us four months ago, snatched from death's door. He was so shy and fearful that he spent the first ... (Read More)stint of his stay at his foster home'|in the bathroom, huddled between the toilet and the tub. But, friends, that was four months ago, and with the patience of a saint and the gentleness of a nurse, foster mom (and her pack-- she would never leave them out!) have seen this gentle, shy, quiet, old soul come to life. Percy is a Newfoundland mix who is between 65-70 pounds. He's about 8 %BD years old, and he's house trained, just about crate trained, and walks well on a leash. He's a low energy guy who does suffer from skin allergies (controlled with food and prednisone) and a bit of arthritis. He's missing some teeth, and he hides from children'|.but'|.he LOVES other dogs! Foster mom is pretty sure her pack of three dogs has done as much for Percy as all the tender, loving care and good food have done for him. She would insist that Percy go to a home with dogs who will keep him company. He does love to walk and to play, and he's even started swimming in the pond at his foster home. He's not destructive and he's a bit of an independent fellow as far as a lot of human affection goes. Foster mom thinks that a patient, caring person could probably draw him even further from his shell, but she stresses the patient part. Percy has rewarded foster mom greatly for her efforts, but it was not a short process! He's no trouble, though, and his gentle, quiet temperament makes him a joy to have in the home. He's embraced all the foster dogs that have come and gone, and really, his new home will be the place where an old soul can put up their feet and enjoy the gentle walks and pleasant play of those golden years of life. Rescue Me ID: 16-09-13-00346Roam (male)

Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

My husband and I are desperately seeking options to re-home our beloved dog Roam ASAP. We have met with our vet, and will need to put him to sleep come 9/24 if we have no other options =(. We have been working so hard to find a place to take on our Roam and adopt him out to another final forever home. Sadly, we have been in contact with many rescues over the past several months, and all have been either full or unable to take on another dog with behavioral struggles. Roam is our 5 1/2 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix who is struggles with anxiety (especially around kids and unpredictable situations), unfamiliar people coming to his ... (Read More)home, and dog aggression. We have had him since he was 8 weeks old, and originally rescued him from an SPCA shelter in Lakeland, Florida. My husband and I are having a baby soon, so we are trying to find him a new place to call home ASAP. He is was 76.8 lbs as of 7/2016, is up to date on all his shots, he is neutered, and is in great physical health aside from his anxiety. While he has always struggled with being territorial around the house & toys (places/things he deems to be 'his'), over the last year and a half he has become more anxious & dog aggressive and had begun to snip and show aggressive tendencies towards people. He has not bitten a human, but has bitten 5-6 dogs - with the worst outcome being about 8 stitches. As we noticed his anxiety and aggression mounting, we immediately started working with a behaviorist, and then afterwards we discovered a program called Sit Means Sit and started even more intensive training with them. He has also excelled at every other obedience training class he has ever participated in, although he did struggle being in group classes with other dogs. The past year and a half has been a lot of work towards rehabilitation, but sadly our boy is still struggling and we are running out of time. He does take 40mg of Prozac every day that seems to take the edge off his anxiety, but he can still be very reactive in triggering situations. We have worked so hard to help him, but the situation isn't working and its heartbreaking. At this point, knowing that he cannot be around kids, and with a baby on the way, we feel like we are running our of time and need to find him another option ASAP. Roam is such a beautiful boy. He is loyal to a fault, protective, LOVES to hike and play fetch, enjoys snuggling, camping, traveling, and swims like a fish. He doesn't do well at dog parks though - he gets too anxious. We wish we could keep him for the rest of his life!! Sadly, we feel we cannot for his sanity and for our daughter's safety. He would do exceptionally well in a stable house with a calm couple who has dog experience, with good outdoor space, and likes to spend time outside (a farm maybe??). Roam absolutely adores his humans, and generally just wants to be wherever we are - whether hiking or swimming, or laying on the couch (when invited!). PLEASE HELP!! Thank you so much for your time! P.S. He LOVES horses! We lived on a farm with a few horses in 2014 and he loved chasing them and rolling in their dung as often as possible =P. (Less)

Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Ello, Charlie here, so very pleased to make your acquaintance. I am a 50lb 2-3 year-old male American Pit Bull Terrier and I am neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. You might notice that I have a rather significant overbite that results from issues with my mandible and nasopharyngeal area and can cause some breathing difficulties from time to time. I have a prescription for two medications that I take only as needed-which is rarely. My people are happy to share more information with anyone interested in adopting me. It's just most important that I avoid becoming over-heated. I wear a 'Sense-ation' harness when walking. I have mastered, ... (Read More)'Sit,' 'Wait' and 'Down'. I sit and wait for my meals. So, now, I am learning, 'Leave It' and 'Off.' I am a happy puppy at heart. Sometimes, I am tempted by socks . . . but other than those wonderfully smelly garments, I don't bother my peoples' belongings. I do enjoy all manner of dog toys and chews. I like to play with them by myself, with people-friends, or with dog-friends, like me. My foster-sister, Libby and I are presently engaged in a never-ending war, called 'tug.' Even though people call it 'war,' its just play for us and we don't care who wins. I get along famously with quite a menagerie of dogs at my foster home . . . there is just one rather outspoken old man who is gruff with all of us, but I am learning to give him a wide-berth. Though no children live here, several visit regularly. They range from ages 8 to 14 and with slow respectful introductions I am very comfortable around them and rather enjoy being loved by them. I do recall that when younger children would rush at a dog I was frightened. When my people are away during the day, I stay in my crate. I complain a little at first, because I would much rather be with my people-friends or dog-friends, but I quiet down soon enough. I have been called, a lover and player, delightful, a sweet boy, and sometimes, a 'space-invader,' because I LOVE to snuggle. I am affectionate, eager to please and well-behaved. When I first meet new people, I can be a little standoffish-I do best if they just ignore me and allow me to approach them when I am ready. If you give me a little space when we first meet, I will be happy to 'invade your space' and give you love, if you let me. To adopt, please submit an application at this link: http://form.jotform.com/form/11880935459 or visitwww.pottersangelsrescue.org to view additional adoptable dogs and for more information. Adoption fees apply and vary by age: Under 1 year $300; 1-5 years $250; 6-8 years $200; and Over 8 years by donation. Thank you for choosing to adopt! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Vermont
Dogs can make good pets in Vermont if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
