Animal ID: BONDED PAIROzzie and Khaleesi (male)

Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Allow me to introduce you to the adorable Terrier twosome of Ozzie & Khaleesi. Ozzie is a 38lb 4 year-old male Terrier-mix. Khaleesi is a 30lb 4 year-old female Terrier-mix. They are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Ozzie & Khaleesi are a bonded-pair and must remain so. Their story began on a continent across several oceans, in Ghana Africa. And, I'm not 'Ghana' lie . . . life was uncertain and horrific for stray dogs, who risked being used as food. But luck would change for the pair, when a New Hampshire couple brought them to the U.S. And, things were going pretty well for them until recently when their living situation ... (Read More)changed and has become incompatible with this pair. The family that adopted Ozzie & Khaleesi moved from a rural to suburban neighborhood, and started a family. They now have a toddler and a baby on the way. So, Ozzie & Khaleesi are seeking a home where they won't have to endure the tough-love of a two-year-old grabbing and pulling at fur instead of petting gently. Ozzie is more tolerant of the toddler's attentions, but Khaleesi is avoidant. Together, their needs are few . . . a home with a little more quiet and little less chaos, a home with a little more adult and a little less child interaction . . . a home where they can be the only pets (as cats are too much fun to chase). Ozzie & Khaleesi are generally good with most other dogs after proper introductions, and better with other female dogs. They require only average exercise. They love daily walks, with or without a leash-especially off-leash running or roaming (supervised, of course). They know: 'Come,' 'Sit,' and 'Down.' They are housetrained and have free-roam of the home. Ozzie communicates with touch, using his paw when asking to go outside. While, Khaleesi communicates by 'singing.' She will sing when she is happy to see you, and to ask to go out. She saves her whines for important things like being separated from her pal, Ozzie. So, as you can see, Ozzie & Khaleesi really have very few needs, but the most important is that they stay together. We are cross-posting this couple for the family who currently has them so there will be no adoption fee, however, you will need to submit an application below and be approved prior to meeting them. References and home visit will be required. To adopt, to submit an application please visit www.pottersangelsrescue.org There you may also view additional adoptable dogs and for more information. Rescue Me ID: 16-04-23-00361Raisen (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

Raisin is a medium small (35 lb) lab/pit mix, black w white markings , super sweet and smart, about a year and a half old. She shouldn't' live with cats (she definitely has a high prey drive), and based on what we know of her now, she probably wouldn't be great with kids under 6. She' s been fine with older kids- she just tends to be scared of things she doesn't know, and little kids are unpredictable. She loves to dig more than anything, but has spent lots of time hanging out next to farm fields and hasn't dug in any of the beds. She's spent hours off-leash with me while I was working in the garden and she stayed right with me. We ... (Read More)have been working on hiking off-leash- she needs more training to be able to do that, New places with exciting sights, smells, people, and dogs are trickier for her, and I wouldn't trust her off leash without more training on recall. I bet she would love living with another dog. She is a little shy of strangers (barks) but after they ignore her for a few minutes and she sniffs them, she's been totally fine. She still needs a lot of training, especially on leash. She tends to pull, and can be reactive to other dogs on-leash. She has been able to play really well with all other dogs we've introduced her to off-leash. We've never taken her to a dog park- it's always been one other dog at a time, usually in an enclosed area or a big field far away from the road. If she gets enough exercise (two walks a day, or a long hike, or some play time with other dogs), she will be super calm in the house. She sleeps a lot, and she loves to snuggle, loves her people, and is generally the sweetest dog. She has been very responsive to training so far, although is still working on lots of things. She has not been possessive of her food, and likes treats but isn't always motivated by them. She seems to love praise the most. She sleeps all night in her crate, and recently we've been letting her sleep out of the crate on one of our chairs. However when we first got her, she nibbled on our houseplants and anything plastic to leather we left out, so at first she might need to be crated when alone. When she goes into her crate when we leave the house, she whines for about a minute, then she is fine. That being said, she hasn't been left for more than 3 or 4 hours very often- she definitely needs a family who is around a lot and is willing to work with her on training. She deserves to be in a place where her humans adore her, have the time and space to let her play and run, have experience with dogs, and can help her be her best self. She is very eager to please. Rescue Me ID: 16-04-18-00552Erin (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Erin a 3 year old, 42 lb, shepherd mix that is always squirming with happiness! She is spayed and micro-chipped. She has a medium energy level, gets along with other dogs and after an initial swat/hiss quickly learned to ignore cats. She is house trained, crate trained, walks on leash with an easy walk harness and knows sit and stay. Erin loves to be with people! Sometimes she will whine if she knows you are there but she is not with you; she stops when you ignore her. There is no tub at her current foster home so, Erin enjoyed a shower! She just walked right in and sat under the shower stream! She is very playful and has puppyish ... (Read More)energy when playing with other dogs. She enjoys playing with the big dogs at the dog park and if she gets too excited she can easily be redirected. There are no children in the foster home, but when she has met children on her excursions she has been just as friendly as she is with adults. Erin is joyful, affectionate, eager to please and just a touch shy upon first meeting. She is getting checked out for a possible urinary tract infection but she should be ready for her new family in no time. If you are ready for a sweet pup that is so happy she squirms with joy but is also able to relax on her bed or in her crate, then Erin is just who you are looking for. Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My name is Leah. I am a medium energy girl that my foster mom describes as eager to please, playful, affectionate and happy. I know 'sit' and 'down' and am eager to learn more! I am mouthy and I love my chew toys. I love children and am very tolerant of my foster homes children. I am sweet and submissive to every person I meet. With dogs, I try to be the boss. I am playful and respond well to balanced dogs, but I can be annoying to the submissive ones. I do live with cats and I want to play with them very badly but they just don't seem to want to! I can be vocal when playing. And barking at people and animals outside of my yard is fun too. I ... (Read More)am super happy and loving and have a lot of confidence in myself. Australian Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

AhRooo! Dudley Do-Right, here. I am a high energy fire-ball with a tenacious terrier spirit. I would like a home with an active companion that would enjoy helping me reach my full potential. My person should know the importance of being the leader (even when it comes to small dogs). But, don't get the idea that life with me is a drudge. I like to have fun and my antics are sure to amuse you. In fact a great way to combine my need for speed, your need to lead and our combined love for fun would be to train agility. I am housetrained and I have free-roam at home. I walk well on leash. I am affectionate, joyful, playful, puppy-like, eager to ... (Read More)please, and sometimes standoffish. I love chew toys and chasing balls. I am friendly and playful with the many dogs that I am fostered with. I even amicably eat meals with them. I am submissive in play. I know to 'Sit' for meals and treats, and I 'Come' when I am called. I also know that 'Bedtime,' means it's time to go sleep in my crate. My foster person tries to talk to me. He makes this funny chimpanzee sound, like, 'AhRooo-Ooo-Ooo.' I keep trying to show him how it's done, maybe one day he'll learn to talk like me. Dudley wants to do-right by you, please do-right and adopt Dudley. Dudley is a 10lb one-year-old male Terrier-mix. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Rescue Me ID: 16-03-26-00195Frida and Greta (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Still looking for a loving home for our girls. They are older but awesome companions. Posted a video of them playing in the warmer weather today. Please consider them if you love shepherds, have a nice yard, no young kids, and are looking for two dogs to keep you company without the excessive energy of a younger dog.**** These two girls were our first children. We are sadly needing to re-home them due to our son having significant allergic reactions to dogs. Frida and Greta are two wonderfully affectionate and classically loyal pure bred German Shepherds. They are a year apart and have grown up together. Frida is 8 and Greta will be turning ... (Read More)7 in June. They will need to be ADOPTED AS A PAIR as Greta, the less confident of the two (on the right in photo), greatly depends on Frida (on the left, darker face in photo) to feel secure. Frida and Greta would do well with someone looking for companion dogs to keep them company when they are home. They are fully house trained, can be left for a full working day if needed, and are very content to sleep on furniture most of the day. They enjoy each other's company but enjoy people's company more. They love being pet, talked to, played with, and also just being in your vicinity while you read, go on facebook, etc. *** Dogs and kids: They would likely do best in a home with no other dogs and no young children. They have never been asked to live with another, already established dog so it's hard to say how it would go- likely it could be done but it's hard to predict. They currently live with our 1 year old son. They have never shown aggression toward him (even when he grabbed Frida by the jowl and we had to pry him off of her) but they do actively avoid him (will move to a different room if he enters a room). They have been comfortable around older children (3-5) who ignore them or pet gently.*** Health: Neither dog has any major health problems. Both have dry skin. Frida's ears need frequent cleaning. Both dogs have had an ear hemotoma that was surgically dealt with. Frida has a cyst on her back that recently ruptured and will be removed. They eat 2.5 c/day of Iams Adult food, broken into 3 meals with a milkbone and piece of Pupperoni at each meal (yes, they are shepherds and couldn't just eat it plain!).*** Exercise: Frida and Greta are used to a good session of fetch daily/every other day in the yard. They love squeaky toys! We have a fenced in yard- Greta would never leave the yard but Frida would certainly wander without a fence (fortunately she mostly 'runs away' at a walk and enjoys being caught).*** Housemanners: Both dogs have excellent house manners. They do go on furniture because we have allowed that but are not persistent (if you put something on the couch like a big pillow to block them). They are not destructive, do not chew, etc. They will take food if it's on the floor and may consider something on a very low coffee table if left unattended but will not jump up and take things. *** Crating/being left alone: Frida is excellent being left- she can be left in or out of the crate. Greta needs to be left with Frida in order to feel okay. If left alone without Frida, she needs to be crated and will howl and show signs of significant anxiety. When crated next to Frida she does fine. Typically, when concerned about anything, both dogs feel most comfortable in their crates. Both are very good at going into their crates whenever asked.     My name is Pacino. I am affectionate, joyful, well-behaved and playful. My foster mom says I have the most beautiful brown eyes and that I am as sweet as can be. I have a funny way of sitting where my legs flop out to the sides. This just makes me extra precious. I'm a very mellow guy. You could call me the calm and quiet type when hanging out at home. I would really like to live in a home with one or two other dogs my own size. A calm type of playmate would balance with me very well. I do not have children with me in my current home, but I think I would do well with older kids. When my people are not at home, I get to stay loose in ... (Read More)the house. I don't chew or get into anything and I am house trained. I absolutely love to play fetch, but I haven't mastered the art of returning the item to you. For now, we will call it a game of take and continue to work on this. I know a few commands like 'Sit' and 'Down' and I'm learning how to sit and wait for my meals too. I am a low energy dog, I am house and crate trained and walk well with a gentle leader. Pacino is a 2 year old, 55 lb. Retriever Mix. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Shar-Pei Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Meet, Joe Black! Joe Black is joyful, playful and puppy-like, well-behaved and shy. No one invested time in training Joe Black, until his rescue. So now, he is learning basic commands, and knows, 'Sit.' Joe Black finds walking on leash a little scary so he wears a harness. He is tentative of people at first, but responds quickly to human kindness. Joe Black doesn't live with children but we believe he would be fine with kids age 8 and older. Born to be a pack member, Joe Black should live in a home with other social dogs. Joe Black is very calm, easy-going and sweet with other dogs. He will engage in cordial play. He is gentle and takes ... (Read More)social cues and canine corrections well. He gets along with dogs of all ages, sizes and gender. Joe Black eats right along-side the other dogs, without incident. While untested, we believe he would get along well with cats and other animals. Joe Black is house trained and non-destructive. He is crated when left alone, but would probably be fine with free roam. Still need a reason to meet Joe Black? Well, we are told that he runs around like a newborn foal, not used to his legs, yet. Otis is in full time training here at the rescue with a member of the VT Canine Unit, a retired police officer. Otis is learning basic leash skills, recall skills and just the manners that make a dog fun to have around. He is a happy, goofy, puppy that happens to be big. Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My name is Billy. And, I am as agile as a Billy goat. Don't believe me? Just watch me climb! I am a super smart boy, too. Put together my climbing and jumping abilities with my supreme intelligence and what do you get? A future champion agility dog! Yeah, I see blue ribbons in my future. But, I have a very big hurdle to clear before that can happen . . . I have to be adopted. As much as I would love to compete for blue ribbons, I will feel like a champion just to have a HOME. So if agility isn't your thing, don't let that stop you from meeting me. I just need someone who will engage my brilliant mind and provide me with daily exercise ... (Read More)because I have energy to burn. Billy is a 43lb 1 %BD year-old male Hound-Airedale Terrier mix. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. He is affectionate, joyful, and playful. Billy knows how to sit and wait for his food, he enjoys running on the treadmill and is an excellent and well-behaved walking companion. He is crate trained and will require a crate in his new home. He loves to be with his people and be a part of what is going on. He is currently being fostered with 7 other dogs and has gotten along great with everyone, including a 5 lb chihuahua. We feel he would excel in a home that could provide him with the mental stimulation and leadership that he craves. He has even been introduced to cats and wasn't very interested in them. Billy is house-trained and non-destructive indoors when his people are home. He has met a two year old boy and been very respectful and gentle towards him, but we would rather not have a home with young children so that Billy's new home has the time (and energy) needed to provide a structured life for Billy. Billy is fun-loving, silly and goofy, and we are looking for the home that can keep this beautiful boy at his potential. Billy does extremely well with a structured routine and clearly defined expectations. Billy, part goat, part dog, is all worth it! Rescue Me ID: 16-02-05-00432Gabby (female)

Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Seizures

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] This sweet and very special girl is Gabby. She is a 4 year old, 45 lb boxer mix. She is more boxer in looks than personality though. We call her the Anti-Boxer. She is mild mannered and mellow and she prefers the same from her dog friends. She is currently on a low-reside food diet along with Metronidazole to help treat her Colitis that we believe was caused due to overuse of antibiotics. She is also on a Probiotic to promote GI health, it is unclear at this point whether this medication regimen will be needed long term. Gabby was also recently diagnosed with epilepsy and is on a daily medication, which has ... (Read More)prevented any further seizures. She has even started becoming playful with the other pups in her foster home. Gabby has velvety soft fur that her foster mom cannot resist; when she is near she must pet her! She is initially timid of new people. But in short time you will be rewarded with her gentle boxer kisses. She will wag her tail a mile a minute when you kiss her face and squish those irresistible cheeks and tell her how beautiful she is. Due to her calm and timid nature we feel she will be happiest in a home without children. She is crate trained, although that is not needed. She is not destructive and well house trained and is left loose in the home when left alone. She also walks well on a leash. She is curious about the farm animals next door, but doesn't seem overly interested. Gabby is low energy and enjoys lounging on a comfy couch or bed. She is a slow eater so she is fed separately from the other pups- we want to be sure she gets every single kibble so she can put some weight on her! She also takes her treats very gently. Gabby is a lovely girl that comes from a hard past and deserves a family that will treat her with tender, loving care and in return, she will reward them with all the snuggles and kisses one could ever hope for. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Seizures

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] My name is Baxter. I possess super powers. I have so much green energy, I could reduce dependence on fossil fuels. And, I can leap over average-size fences, and even 'invisible' fences, in a single bound. I have many other strengths, as well. Like, I am fully housetrained and crate-trained. I know: Sit, Down, Stay, etc . . . I ignore cats and get along with most dogs, especially those that are submissive. I have lived with children and while I am well-behaved and loving with them, I would prefer not to live with them full-time . . . they really stress me out! So, I am seeking a quiet adults-only home. But I ... (Read More)also want someone with an active lifestyle to share my energy with. Do you go for daily hikes or jogs? I would love to be your companion! Do you enjoy training in agility? I excel at jumping obstacles! I would be remiss if I did not also mention that I take an inexpensive medication twice-daily for a seizure disorder. My juvenile idiopathic epilepsy is totally managed with no side-effects or complications, and it does not slow me down! Baxter is an approximately 3 1/2 year-old 55lb male Shepard mix. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Rescue Me ID: 15-11-05-00558Emerson (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Are you a well-balanced confident leader? Is your home environment calm and peaceful? Do you have experience working with strong intelligent breeds of dogs? Are you able to provide a well-structured routine? Are you a single adult or a couple looking for a companion dog? If you are, Emerson wants to meet you! Emerson is a 65 lb 4-year-old male Pit-Bull Terrier. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Emerson is crate-trained and house trained. He LOVES using the treadmill for indoor walks, as well as walking outside when on leash. Emerson is making great strides in his training and we feel he may be able to go to a home with another ... (Read More)dog who is calm and relaxed, but will wait for just the right fit. His interactions with other pets are fine under structured circumstances. But, we do not feel that Emerson would be successful in unstructured off-leash interactions at this point, because he becomes overly excited. However, every day he is showing improvement in this area! Nonetheless, we also recommend a home without children, so that a calm environment can be provided. Emerson likes having a routine. He thrives with a consistent daily schedule. Emerson is affectionate and loves a good head rub more than anything else. Emerson is eager to please and playful. Emerson does not like to be separated from his people if they are home. Don't expect to leave him out in the yard and have him be happy about it! However, if you leave the home, he quietly waits in his crate for your return. Emerson is currently being fostered by and is working with Paula Bergeron of the Good Dogma Canine Rehabilitation and Training Center in Grafton, NH. Emerson's foster/trainer, Paula, will offer his adopter four free lessons, and continued support for a positive beginning. **Emerson is part of our Home for the Holidays Special and his adoption fee has been reduced to $150 until the end of January** Dear Santa, I have been a very good boy and I was hoping, if it wouldn't be too much trouble . . . could I have a person and a home to call my very own? Rescue Me ID: 14-12-04-00430Lexi Sweet-Pea (female)

Rat Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lexi is a beautiful 7-year-old Decker Rat Terrier. Lexi is very well crate trained and is leashed trained. As she has a very inquisitive nature, she will need a fenced yard but if you have wide-open spaces, this girl loves to run. She is a high energy; high anxiety dog but LOVES to cuddle and enjoys people once she warms up to you. True to her breed, she is enamored with chasing cats and small animals, so a house without small dogs or cats would probably be best. Lexi also finds children to be confusing and therefore should be in a household with no small children. She is very dominant, and so needs a good leader and someone who can work ... (Read More)with her on some of her issues. We hope to find her the home she deserves! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Vermont
Dogs can make good pets in Vermont if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
