Rescue Me ID: 15-05-01-00122Sophie (female)

White Shepherd    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I'm Sophie, a 5 month old white GSD, female. Up to date on all shots, except Lyme disease immunization. I am not yet spayed. I'm very smart, train well, and am housebroken. I know sit, stay, down, wait, that'll do, settle, and back (used in the car). When I need to go outside, I know to ring the bell by the door. I even know to distinguish a couple of my toys from the others - I can pick out Red and Zebra in a line up any day! I'm learning 'stop' now. I do need lead/leash and no chase training. I don't know how I am around kids because I haven't been exposed to many of them, but I sure do love being around my owner's 12 year old grandchild. ... (Read More)I will bark at strangers when all I really want to do is meet them. Other dogs? After a couple of minutes of barking, it's play time! I like running, and Mom wonders just where my EverReady battery is! I have a good selection of chew toys and a few stuffed animals, so I never took interest in chewing shoes and/or furniture. I have to say that since a wee little pup, I've not been much of a cuddle pup but one for romping. I'm very energetic, love to play catch and fetch, like playing tug, and just love, love, love the snow! In this wet Vermont spring, I'm beginning to have fun in water too! I want a forever home with another dog or two, and owner(s) who can be home and are the kind to spend time with their dogs. I like to play and work! (Less)

My mom rescued me from my litter because I could not latch on and I was sick. I recovered with my people mom praying and caring for me. I am now 4 yrs old and am a very good boy (except sometimes I have accidents in the house, I am not sure why I do that!) I love to play ball and run, I have a special ball for inside play with my mom! I love pupperoni's and denta bones. My mom is looking for a wonderful home for me, she loves me but she is older and can't keep up with my energy! And the few times when I pee pee in the house. Rescue Me ID: 15-04-27-00089Freddy (male)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive

Freddy is a very good dog that has very high energy and lacks socialization. We live way out of town and don't have the opportunity to socialize him. This is why I've marked him as aggressive. When people come over he freaks out, but if they are greeted outside with Freddy on a leash he will generally calm enough to remove the leash after a few minutes. He has never been exposed to kids. He has never had problems with other dogs, but is somewhat protective of toys. He is very responsive and affectionate with his owners. I swear this dog understands full sentences (not just commands). Loves to hike and fetch. He is not crate trained ... (Read More)but never messes with anything in a picked up home. Trying to find a good home for him because we have a baby due in September. Between lack of time for him and not knowing how he will react to a new-born, we figure it best to start his home search now instead of having to give him to a shelter quickly if it does not work out. Fact is, he's just too much dog to have around in this new situation (he split open my tongue as I was trying to dry him after a hike yesterday, and he was just being appreciative). We would love to give him a chance with the baby but feel that if we wait until then he may be sent to a shelter and eventually euthanized, as first impressions are not his strong suit. He is using my leg for a pillow as I write this. He was exposed to horses, sheep and other farm animals in his first year, but not since. He will be 3 years old on July 4th. Adopters must have experience with high energy, high intelligence dogs. (Less)

Pointer Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

All ye, all ye, in come free, my name is Allie. My foster mom describes me as affectionate, eager to please, joyful, well-behaved and gentle. I have been told that I have big brown Bassett-Hound-like eyes that will melt your heart just like chocolate. When I am happy I talk; making deep, low 'Rrrrrh, Rrrh, Rrrh,' sounds. It has been called an adorable trait. I have a tendency to jump straight up in the air like I have springs in my feet. I wag my tail when I am happy . . . my tail wags, a lot. I get along with dogs and cats, alike. I like to be part of the pack. I have no interest in the chickens, at all. I am trusted with free-run of the ... (Read More)house. I am not destructive. I am housetrained, nearly crate-trained and walk well on leash. I know: sit, down, and come. All ye, all ye, in come free. Let's play a game of hide and seek. You could hide a bone for me. But what I seek most, is a forever home. All ye, all ye, in come free, my name is Allie. Allie is a one-year-old 45lb female Pointer/Boxer-mix. She is spayed, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Siberian Husky    Age: Puppy

Asher is a Siberian Husky mix who is 1-2 years old. With his light blue eyes, white and brown fluffy coat of fur, and majestic looks, this neutered male is eager to please. He gets along well with other dogs, but was turned into the shelter because he was chasing and catching small critters such as squirrels. This high prey drive indicates he would not do well sharing his home with cats. He walks well on a leash and knows some basic commands including sit, shake and down.     Buster is an awesome dog - 1 yrs. old, weighs just 25 lbs., Terrier mix. He gets along with all dogs (fostered with 3 very pesky 3 month old pups) and has been in the house with 5 others dogs. He loves to run and play and is great with kids. Buster has wiry, curly hair on his rump and back and big ears! Very affectionate guy. Good with cats - if they run he likes to chase but stops if you yell at him and has never touched them if you don't. The resident cat has even ran him out of his bowl of food. Rescue Me ID: 15-04-22-00090Sallie (female)

Flat-Coated Retriever Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This is shy sweet Sal. Sallie was rescued from a southern shelter where she had been over-looked, for too long. She wants to trust people, but she is unsure. When first meeting people Sallie is fearful. But, if allowed to take her time, she will be sitting in your lap cuddling within an hour. Sallie requires slow introductions with people and pets. At first she didn't know where she fit in with her foster pack. But with each introduction and interaction she gains in both trust and confidence. She is a natural beta/follower. She could live in a home with another dog given proper introductions. She does especially well with the alpha male in ... (Read More)her foster home. Sallie also does well with dog-savvy cats, and really likes the confident Maine Coon, who fears nothing. Confidence seems to be the key to Sallie's success. Sallie is unsure of herself and it can cause her stress. When Sallie is overwhelmed, she will put herself in her crate if the door is left open. But, sometimes Sallie likes to play . . . sometimes, even, by herself! She likes chew toys and rope toys. She will play tug with a friend or toss the toy for herself. Sallie knows, off (as in, get off the furniture) and down (as in, lay down), she will also, come and wait (as in, wait quietly even while five other dog bounce eagerly to go outdoors). Sallie, however, will NOT sit. Sallie takes treats with great gentility. Sallie stays in her crate when her people are out. She is housebroken and has free-run of the home when her people are home, and all night. Sallie will even sleep next to the other dogs in the house, now. Sallie has begun blooming since arriving in her foster home, several weeks ago. She will continue to blossom in the right environment. Sallie's ideal home will have older or no children, and a couple who enjoy moderate activity and will invest a little time in basic obedience class. And, like the Wilson Pickett song lyrics to Mustang Sally, 'All you want to do is ride around Sally, ride, Sally, ride . . .' Our Sallie, LOVES to ride quietly, laying down in the back seat. Sallie is a 45lb 2-year-old Retriever-Pit/mix. She is spayed, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Please visit www.pottersangelsrescue.com to fill out an adoption or foster application. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-04-18-00425Oscar (male)

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This is Oscar. Oscar's rescue story began when he found himself at a 'high-kill' shelter in the Big Apple (New York City) around the time of the Academy Awards show, which is how he became known as 'Oscar.' Oscar won the hearts of everyone he has met, from shelter, kennel and transport volunteers to the foster couple he currently resides with. Oscar further distinguished himself by being one of only two foster dogs that the couple's super-submissive male golden retriever (Vinny) has been comfortable playing with! Oscar is puppy-like and LOVES to play. In addition to Vinny, Oscar also peacefully cohabitates with two older female dogs. He ... (Read More)shows no signs of aggression around food or treats. Whenever his people are home, Oscar has the run of the home. At night, the entire pack sleeps in the bedroom where there are a number of comfortable options to choose from. Occasionally, Oscar will join the couple and the little-old-lady dog on the bed. A word about cats . . . Cats, belong on Broadway, where the award is called the Tony, not the Oscar . . . Hello! Cats and Oscar sadly, do not blend. Therefore, because his foster people have 2 cats, when his people are away at work, Oscar stays in a super-size crate. He does not seem to mind much, as his people try to make it as comfortable and inviting as possible and always leave him with something very special (that he only gets when he's in the crate) to chew on. If not for those pesky cats, we think Oscar would be fine with the run of the house when his people are out. He is housebroken and shows no signs of anxiety or destructive behavior. Oscar is learning to walk on leash. He just got a new 'no-pull' harness that his people love. Oscar is an energetic and athletic young dog who should have a long daily walk at the very least. But, he has the potential to enjoy so much more outdoors-from hiking with people, to playing in a safely fenced area with other dogs. Oscar is bright and agile and eager to please and has the capacity to be a star pupil in learning new things. He is routinely exposed to basic commands: Sit, Come, Wait, Down, Off, Okay and Leave It. He has done a fantastic job at sitting and waiting for his dinner, which is a lot to ask a dog who arrived looking rather under-weight. He needs to put on a few more pounds, still. Oscar is simply unconditional love in the form of a dog. Oscar is affectionate and gives occasional kisses, but is not obnoxious about it. He is a perfect companion. He is keenly tuned to his person's emotions. He loves to snuggle and keep you company wherever you are. And, if there is no room beside you or on your lap, Oscar will lay down by your feet. Please, finish this sentence, 'And, the Oscar goes to . . .' Believe me, the person who adopts this special boy will be receiving something infinitely more valuable than a 24-karat gold statuette, they will be receiving a canine soul-mate. Oscar is a 44lb 2-year-old male Staffordshire terrier mix. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Please visit www.pottersangelsrescue.org to fill out a foster or adoption application. Boston Terrier    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This is fast Eddie. Eddie is wheelie-wheelie fast, because Eddie gets around in a cart designed for dogs with mobility issues. Eddie suffered an injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down. He lost the use of his hind legs, bladder and bowels. Eddie requires some special care and accommodation. Eddie wears a doggie-diaper all the time. To keep his skin healthy, he needs to be changed and cleaned when he 'goes.' And, Eddie will let you know when he 'goes.' Eddie also needs to be turned and moved every 3-4 hours when he is laying on his bed so his tissues do not break down and create wounds that could lead to infection. Eddie can be up ... (Read More)and wheeling about in his cart for up to an hour at a given time. Eddie knows stay and come, and 'wheels' well wearing a regular collar and leash. He loved toys and rawhide chews. Most of all, Eddie loves to socialize, whether that is with other dogs, children or adults. Eddie craves companionship. And, he is happy, happy, happy. Eddie is affectionate, eager to please, joyful, playful, and well-behaved. Eddie stays in his crate when he has to be left home alone. But, Eddie loves to ride in the car and go right along with you. Eddie is clearly a dog with purpose. There is a reason he's still here. Eddie has the potential to be an ambassador and show others that having a disability does not rob you of your potential or slow you down. Come meet Eddie, and see how he rolls . . .     Luck (noun):the chance happening of fortunate or adverse events. Lucky has experienced both the bad and the good, and we're determined to change his luck to good - permanently. His story started when he was found as a wandering stray and taken to a local Vet. No owner could be found, so Lucky was relinquished to our rescue. Lucky is such a good boy! He does good with dogs of all sizes(even the little growly ones) He is just a happy and friendly boy.     Our Daisy is submissively playful when she is with other dogs. On her own, she's very mellow. She is good with dog-savvy cats, but shows a little too much interest to be recommended with a skittish cat that runs. Daisy has met the neighborhood children and was well-behaved. She is crated when she has to be alone; she will paw at the door and whine at first, but will soon calm and relax. She was seriously skinny when she first came to her foster home and is still putting on much needed weight. Daisy can be a little shy, but she is also affectionate, playful and eager to please. PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Vermont
Dogs can make good pets in Vermont if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia Low-Cost Vermont Spay & Neuter Clinics
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.) The dog was the earliest domesticated animal. Dogs are red-green colorblind.
