Rescue Me ID: 14-11-23-00578SKI (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This absolutely stunning boy is Ski. He has it all; looks, brains, strength, and love to give. Ski is pushing 2 years old and 90 lbs. He was saved from a high kill shelter in south Texas and came into rescue at just 50 lbs. SKI is still a LOT of puppy so he will need an experienced GSD person or family that understands they will need to be his alpha whom he can respect and look up to. SKI will need an active family who understands and is willing to commit the time to meet his needs; being able to give him both the physical and, equally as important, the mental stimulation to keep him healthy and happy. SKI is neutered, up to date on ... (Read More)vacs, micro chipped and looking for his safe forever home in the Northeast. We will transport SKI home, to a very special and dedicated family, via Rescue Road Trips. His transportation is included in his $535 adoption fee. For additional information go to http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org/ski.html. SKI thanks you for looking and wishes you and yours Happy Holidays. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-11-23-00475OWEN (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

OWEN is a handsome, sweet, gentle White German Shepherd Dog. He was found as a stray in the Poteet area of Texas. Taken to the vets and posted on lost and found sites, no microchip, no owners. So OWEN came to GaDaH. Owen was walking funny and had ear problems so I took him to the vets - he had bad yeast ear infection, which has been treated and cleared up. He also walked funny, which we thought was a problem with his paws but under examination it was deemed more of a neurological problem called 'over-stepping' which is where he cannot always associate how far the ground is away and so he over exaggerates his walk. This causes him ... (Read More)absolutely NO problem at all. OWEN runs and plays as well as all the other dogs, he just looks a little goofy in doing so. OWEN absolutely LOVES the water, he is so much fun to watch as his movements are over-exaggerated. OWEN is very affectionate and loving and would suit a family that had a big yard where he could run and play - a kiddie pool in the warm weather is a MUST as this gives him so much pleasure, so a family that can live with a dog that likes to get wet :) Due to his issue, OWEN obviously won't be a good candidate for a running companion and walking at a human pace could cause him discomfort, so OWEN would be best with a big back yard and rides to some great spots where he can explore and venture in new environments. OWEN does walk on the leash and is fine on short distances, but he does pull so would need some training and guidance. OWEN lives here at the rescue with all the other dogs and gets on with them great, he loves chasing the puppies and of course jumping and splashing in the kiddie pool. We do free feed here at the rescue and OWEN can be a bit grumpy when eating in that he will growl at the other dogs. Some dogs will walk away and come back when he has gone, other dogs just ignore him. He has never done anything other than vocal and I believe that is just from being a stray and having to fend for himself. He has never been aggressive at any time. OWEN has been estimated at 3~4 years old, he is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and tested heart-worm negative. The video posted was taken in June and shows OWEN with a lot of the rescue dogs. Some of these dogs have since been adopted, but it will give you an idea of OWEN's love of water and his gait. You can adopt Owen and give him a loving home in time for the holidays! We use Rescue Road Trips to bring our great dogs from the rescue in south Texas to loving adopters up north. Go to www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org to complete an adoption application. Transport space fills up quickly, so don't wait. Owen would like some really good treats in his Christmas stocking, but most of all, he'd love his very own fur-ever home! Adoption fee includes transport cost. (Less)

Collie Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This cutie is SHELBY and she is a Collie/Shepherd blend. She is a lively, happy and confident puppy that was saved out of shelter in the high kill state of Texas where she was suffering with a skin condition. Shelby is now safe in a private rescue. She tested negative for mange on two separate occasions, so an allergy and under-nourishment is most likely the cause. Since SHELBY has been with us, she has thrived. Her itching is getting less and less, and her hair is growing back nicely. Shelby will need a family that has time to guide and train her in having manners and appropriate behavior as she grows up into a smart, stunning ... (Read More)adult that she is to become. Shelby is spayed, up to date on vacs, and micro-chipped. Because she is too young she has not been tested for heartworm but she is on monthly prevention. Sweet little Shelby is dreaming of being home for the holidays with her own loving family safe in the Northeast. We will transport her via Rescue Road Trips, which is included in her adoption fee of $335. Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

BELLE, is very affectionate, sweet and loving young girl with a very gentle laid back temperament. Of course she loves to play and run around, but generally she is just happy to be close by and when she looks at you she looks directly into your soul. BELLE's mother was a pure bred German Shepherd and her puppies (born Dec. 2012) contracted distemper. All the pups were given the distemper serum and antibiotics and did very well. BELLE had neurological complications that were caught early on and she had surgery that was 100% successful. Belle has NO neurological side effects of distemper! However this did cause Belle to loose most of her ... (Read More)teeth. This does not hinder her in anyway at all. She happily eats with all the other dogs, takes treats and bones too. He really only shows his age at night, and has a few benign health things. Namely, a bit of extra skin in his throat that makes him breathe loudly and gag a little when he goes on his back. I have all of his health records and could easily forward the email from the vet. He is a sweet, loving, and beautiful dog that I know you will love. We actually recently discovered his mix!!

Personality: Very High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

I took this dog from an abusive home. She is 1 year old not fixed. She is still a little scared of certain things. She is NOT good with young children. She needs general manner training. She is good with my little dog and I have a cat that she likes to chase. She has never hurt him she just likes to chase him. She loves to ride and is very playful but needs training in her play behavior as she like to bite while playing. She would do best in a home where she can have a lot of play time and outside play. She needs someone that can do basic training as she has had no basic training. I have been working with her but she still needs a lot of ... (Read More)work. She walks good on a leash She is house trained and sleeps in a crate at night and when I am gone. I will waive the adoption fee with good vet references and a signed agreement that she be spayed within 30 days. (Less)

Chihuahua    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adult Women Only
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Manny has been with me since puppyhood. It's not easy for me to say goodbye-we do love each other. He has bit my toddler in the face twice now, and his barking disrupts our household far too much. I am expecting another baby soon and I'm afraid he cannot stay with us. I want him to be happy and safe.

Special needs - Hi There, I'm approximately 1.5- 2 years old & I'm a purebred Boston Terrier Boy who was abandoned by my owner; Yep, He just dropped me at the municipal kill shelter and drove away never looking back. That was a really scary place for a little guy like me to be, there were lots of dogs barking all the time and no soft bed or people to play with me or walk me'| I kept waiting for my human to come back for me but he never did, and the worst part was that every couple days a man with a needle and a white jacket would come and dogs would be put to sleep just cause the shelter was crowded or the dog was an owner surrender or an ... (Read More)stray who was there past time limit for owner to bail them out'| Thankfully for me, There was a very caring part time AC officer at the shelter there, and He made sure i wasn't put to sleep by getting me out of there and into a thing called 'dog rescue''| Yea, i never heard of such a thing'| BUT I'm alive today because of Boxers N More Rescue, They got me out of shelter, into USDA required mandatory 2 week boarding and for my vet exam, heart worm test (negative thank God) and my shots, and they also got my interstate health certificate and arranged my way to them up north. So upon arrival in New England I was then picked up by a nice lady and her friend and they brought me to Vermont to a 'foster home''| What's a foster home? I didn't know but now I figured out it is a place where caring dog loving volunteer families bring in dogs who are in need of a temporary home, vet care and behavior assessment and training, and love us doggies like family members until they feel we/I am ready and then they find a family or human who is a perfect match for my lifestyle'| Yea so once abandoned /now rescued dogs like me, get to live with these nice folks for a while and we get needed vet care, are house trained, learn to walk on leashes, play with other dogs and kids, and cats (and YES i am a dog who just LOVES other small dogs and CATS too!) When i first arrived in my foster home i had no name, the lady there laughed at how i went around smelling all the flowers and things in the yard and she said i hovered like a little 'bumblebee' , going from plant to plant, that was how i got my name! I'm now called Bumblebee and I love being called my name! When i hear my name i come running! I love everything my foster family does with me, car rides, sitting in my foster mom's lap, and boy do i love belly rubs and butt scratches! I also like watching tv, going for walks, snuggles with cat and other small dogs on sofa, playing with stuffed toys and chewing on beef bones... This nice foster family that has taken me in and tells me every day that someone will be chosen specially for me, to adopt and to love me and care for me forever. Could you be my someone? I just want a warm lap to sit in that is mine forever. Is your lap available for me?' My foster's tell me i am a comedian, i make them laugh a lot, and i'm a very happy little guy. They tell me it's best if i go to home with no big dogs in it cause i'm so small and I lost both of my eyes because a big dog played too ruff with me. So yea, i can't see at all now, but that's okay- I am adjusting and am told i will have a long and happy life, my other senses like smell, sound, and touch will get me around just fine'| Hey they say that i could have been put to sleep if the rescue didn't have vet remove damaged eyes'| my optic nerve was torn out of the one and then a while later the other injured eye had it's retina burst from pressure from the injury induced glaucoma and i was in incredible pain without chance of seeing again, the vet said if they left eye in i would never see and i would be in constant pain and needing continuous drops, ointments and pain pills'|. so removing eye was kindest option for me, now i can live pain free and i'm told I will be just fine'| These rescue people really have been great to me, BUT I so badly want a family of my own'|I am fully house trained and love to cuddle and snort and snore.. I'm crate trained, i bark when i want to go out, they walk me on a special leash to keep me from bumping into things on my walks'| and they say i'm very well behaved. So like i said, my name is Bumblebee, i'm about 1.5-2 years old, i am house trained and very smart and friendly, and i have no vision, but hey It's what's inside that counts, right?' If you think you are the 'right' match for me please contact the rescue. thanks for wanting to adopt and save a life rather then shop for your newest best friend and family member. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Vermont
Dogs can make good pets in Vermont if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
