Rescue Me ID: 14-09-18-00306Oliver (male)

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Oliver is a 65 lbs, 11 year old Staffordshire Terrier with a beautiful brindle coat. He is potty trained and neutered, with a great reputation at the vet. He is an older dog, so he sometimes moves slow in the morning and at night. For the most part he's quiet and loves to sleep, but he can still enjoy a good walk. He loves to play with tennis balls and sticks. He pulls a little bit on leash, but if you keep an eye out it's not a problem. Oliver is not always great with other dogs, but given time he's warmed up to and lived with quite a few. As far as kids go, he does extraordinarily well. I have grew up with this dog! We got Oliver in ... (Read More)Pennsylvania around 2006, and at the same time had about 6 outdoor cats. Oliver and I moved out to California in 2011 when I was 15. Since then he's lived with my aunt and uncle, their two children (at the time 5 and 7 years old), and one other dog, who Oliver did just fine with. After moving out of the dorms at SFSU, I was trying to find a place for Oliver and I to live together, but was unprepared for the housing battle taking place in San Francisco. So now, I'm stuck without a place myself, and no place for Oliver. I am at a place with little options, and not a whole lot of hope. I love this dog, and I'm sure you will too. (Less)

Special needs - BB lost eye from injury- Hi There, I'm approximately 2 years old & I'm a purebred Boston Terrier Boy who was abandoned by my owner; He just dropped me at the municipal kill shelter and drove away never looking back. That was a really scary place for a little guy like me to be, there were lots of dogs barking all the time and no soft bed or people to play with me or walk me'| I kept waiting for my human to come back for me but he never did, and the worst part was that every couple days a man with a needle and a white jacket would come and dogs would be put to sleep just cause the shelter was crowded or the dog was an owner ... (Read More)surrender or an stray who was there past time limit for owner to bail them out'| Thankfully for me, There was a very caring part time AC officer at the shelter there, and He made sure i wasn't put to sleep by getting me out of there and into a thing called 'dog rescue''| Yea, i never heard of such a thing'| BUT I'm alive today because of Boxers N More Rescue, They got me out of shelter, into USDA required mandatory 2 week boarding and for my vet exam, heart worm test (negative thank God) and my shots, and they also got my interstate health certificate and arranged my way to them up north. So upon arrival in New England I was then picked up by a nice lady and her friend and they brought me to Vermont to a 'foster home''| What's a foster home? I didn't know but now I figured out it is a place where caring dog loving volunteer families bring in dogs who are in need of a temporary home, vet care and behavior assessment and training, ad love us doggies like family members until they feel we/I am ready and then they find a family or human who is a perfect match for my lifestyle'| Yea so once abandoned /now rescued dogs like me, get to live with these nice folks for a while and we get needed vet care, are house trained, learn to walk on leashes, play with other dogs and kids, and cats (and YES i am a dog who just LOVES other small dogs and CATS too!) When i first arrived in my foster home i had no name, the lady there laughed at how i went around smelling all the flowers and things in the yard and she said i hovered like a little 'bumblebee' , going from plant to plant, that was how i got my name! I'm now called Bumblebee and I love being called my name! When i hear my name i come running! I love everything my foster family does with me, car rides, sitting in my foster mom's lap, and boy do i love belly rubs and butt scratches! I also like watching tv, going for walks, snuggles with cat and other small dogs on sofa, playing with stuffed toys and chewing on beef bones... This nice foster family that has taken me in and tells me every day that someone will be chosen especially for me, to adopt and to love me and care for me forever. Could you be my someone? I just want a warm lap to sit in that is mine forever. Is your lap available for me?' My foster's tell me i am a comedian, i make them laugh a lot, and i'm a very happy little guy. They tell me it's best if i go to home with no big dogs in it cause i'm so small and I lost one of my eyes because a big dog played too ruff with me. So yea, i have just one eye now, but that's okay- i could have been put to sleep if the rescue didn't have vet remove damaged eye'| my optic nerve was torn out and i was in incredible pain'| These rescue people really have been great to me, BUT I so badly want a family of my own'|I am fully house trained and love to cuddle and snort and snore.. I'm crate trained and very well behaved if you are firm with me. (via positive / redirective methods ) So like i said, my name is Bumblebee, i'm about 2 years old, i am house trained and very smart and friendly, and i have only one eye, but hey It's what's inside that counts, right?' If you think you are the 'right' match for me please contact the rescue. thanks for wanting to adopt and save a life rather then shop for your newest best friend and family member. (Less)

Rottweiler Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Angus came in after his owner moved him all way from California because he was not welcomed in the home he was staying at. Angus is 1 1/2 years old. Angus is a sweet dog. He came in shortly after being sprayed by a skunk and was great for his bath. Angus has lived with a small dog and likes dogs a lot but no cats please. Angus LOVES to go for car rides but isn't a fan of a crate. He needs an active home to get all his energy out (though he doesn't seem overly hyper here) so he can focus on proper training. Angus would do best in a home with a dog experienced owner. He would be a great family pet as he lived with children as young as 8 months ... (Read More)old and did great with them. (Less)

Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This is Gemma. She is about a year old. We are not really sure on her bred but we are guessing Shepherd/Plott hound? Gemma is a great dog. She loves to go for walks and get belly rubs. Gemma has only one 'bad' habit she gets so excited when she sees people she jumps on them, this is why she was brought in after the people had her for only 3 weeks. Gemma wants everyone to know she is very smart and can be trained out of this. Gemma is to great too explain in words and can only be appreciated in person. Gemma seems fine with other dogs and may do best with older children due to her jumping.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Vermont
Dogs can make good pets in Vermont if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia Low-Cost Vermont Spay & Neuter Clinics
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.) The dog was the earliest domesticated animal. Dogs are red-green colorblind.
