Rescue Me ID: 14-07-27-00101Seamus (male)

Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Seamus is a wonderful boy who we have had since he was six weeks old. He's gentle and sweet and has been our love for two years. However, in the last few weeks he has become unpredictably aggressive with our other dogs. We are worried that he will severely hurt one of them and can no longer keep him due to this. We want him to go to a loving home where he is the only dog and can receive the attention he deserves. This is so heartbreaking for us but it seems to be the best option. He is house broken, crate and leash trained and would do anything to make us happy. Anyone would be lucky to have him as long as he is the only dog. I will be happy ... He was neutered roughly 5 months ago. Un fortunately our landlord told us that he must leave our home immediately as '1 dog is plenty to have and Simba must leave as soon as possible' We love Simba.     Jeff(blonde) 3 years old and freckles(brown and white) 4 years old are great dogs. They made the long trip from a high kill shelter in Virginia so they could start a new life. We are unsure of their breed but if we had to guess we'd say Corgi mixes? They were found as strays but not together and have made friends here and sleep in the same kennel too. They are between 22 and 24 pounds. They do not have to go together but would love to have a doggy friend in their new home if possible. Both would be great additions to any household.

Animal ID: LizzyLizzy (female)

Boxer    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Lizzy! She was orphaned when her 'parent's got a divorce and neither could find a place to live that allowed Fur-kids... She is an absolute joy, very happy girl, easy going with all humans and likes the foster sibling who is a cat, but she doesn't seem to like other dogs. The shelter who we rescued her from tells us that she was adopted the 'last time' from their when she was unclaimed as a stray a few years ago... It is our belief that there was some kind of harm done to her by other dogs prior to her last home as she is very shut down and fearful around other dogs and will sit and growl at them. We think she is best to go to a home ... (Read More)where she will be the only doggie.. she is great with cats and even her foster brother the parrot... but not good for her to be around dogs. Lizzy has wonderful house manners, is very well housebroken, knows sit, stay, High five, come, and more...She is extremely gentle and loving toward humans and cats, a real easy going gal..gentle on the leash wags tail and just loves the walks and time spent next to her human foster parents... Lizzy will make a wonderful family member . Apply to adopt her today if you think you can give her the love and devotion she deserves.     Hi! I'm Elbert! I was found by animal control officer down south and brought to a shelter...Lucky for me My life was saved by a nice rescue in Vermont! PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Vermont
Dogs can make good pets in Vermont if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia Low-Cost Vermont Spay & Neuter Clinics
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.)
