Animal ID: FoxyFoxy (female)

Boxer    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

Sweet Senior Boxer found herself tied to a tree in the backyard in middle of zero degree winter with no food, water, or shelter-her 'owners' packed up the house and moved away leaving her alone with no provisions. Thank God neighbors called Animal Control who came and got her... She was severely dehydrated, underweight, and depressed/in a fog mentally (who could blame her)... She is living in a foster home with other dogs, cat, and a bird whom she gets along very well with...It has been a joy to witness her transformation, no longer all slumped over and barely able to walk like when she came here- now she runs, plays and enjoys herself...she ... (Read More)is eating and gaining weight, and seems like a completely different dog! *Foxy* is beautiful inside and out, wonderful dark brindle color, and heart of gold. She is gentle, housebroken, knows basic commands, walks gently on leash and is very well behaved & loves to play outside in snow with the foster fur kids here. The perfect home for Foxy would be an INDOOR only home who will walk her and play with her...If there are other pets in the home already they must be gentle non-agressives as Foxy is an older gal and ruff-and=tumble / wrestling with other dogs wouldn't be a good idea for her... Anyone interested in adopting Foxy (or any of our dogs) is required to fill out an application, have vet & personal references checked, one of our volunteers will come to your home and meet you and your family-so we can be sure she goes to a home that can best match her personality and lifestyle needs. We consider ourselves 'match-makers' and since none of our dogs live in a facility, all are in foster homes living with families and other pets we KNOW the needs of each of our rescued dogs and therefore sometimes someone applies for a specific dog, but we may have another dog awaiting adoption that would be a better match for that family. We reserve the right to put the dogs needs first, and we also reserve the right to reject any application for any reason without explanation. These dogs have come to us from often neglect, abandoned and abusive backgrounds it is our job as a rescue to be their guardians and make sure the rest of their lives are spent well cared for in loving homes best suited to their needs. thanks for wanting to adopt, rather then shop. Chihuahua    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Spencer is a 6 year old very sweet Chihuahua. He gets along with dogs and cats. He loves people but can be a little shy. Because he is a bit timid we are recommending no small kids for him. Spencer's favorite thing to do is to climb in your lap and go to sleep. He prefers to cuddle in bed with you at night. If you are in an apartment the good news is Spencer is pee pad trained. When he gets excited he will balance on his back legs and 'wave' at you with his front feet. This is a site to see and when you come see him he will most likely show you this cute trick.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Vermont
Dogs can make good pets in Vermont if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia Low-Cost Vermont Spay & Neuter Clinics
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.) Dogs can hear much lower frequencies than humans, over twice as high as humans, and about four times as far as humans.
