Shar-Pei Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Just call Bennett, Mr. Nice Guy. He is a get-along and go-along dog. Bennett is an all around friendly dog who gets along with other dogs and all people. He is currently being fostered with a cat and has shown little interest. He just wants to be everyone's friend! Bennett also loves to go-along with you to work. Bennett learned the 'Sit,' command very quickly. Now, he will sit and wait to eat meals and to receive affection. A note on mealtime, Bennett has dined at the same time with 8 other dogs with no issues. Bennett is affectionate, eager to please, well-behaved, joyful, playful and puppy-like. His favorite toy is his 'stuffy.' He likes ... (Read More)to fetch stuffy, but doesn't want to give him up. Bennett can be left alone in a crate or in a room-just make sure not to leave paper-items around, they are the only things he likes to chew. But, when you are home, he wants to be your constant companion. Bennett can become whiney and anxious when he is excited-so it is important to be careful to only reward his calm behavior with attention and affection, not his anxiety. He is already showing great improvement in just one week. Bennett recently had eye surgery to correct Entropion and he feels so much better now. Bennett is a 45lb one-year-old male Shar Pei mix. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Rescue Me ID: 16-06-20-00345Kukie (male)

Pit Bull    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

What do you get when you cross an Akita with a Pitbull? Well, we'll let you come up with the name for this cross, but let's start with this: A beautiful, athletic, high energy dog with a bit of a mind of his own! Let us introduce you to Kukie. Kukie is a 6 year old, 66 pound male with glossy, black fur and 'radar' ears. He's good with kids, does well unattended in the house, knows sit, stay, down, and heel (while leashed),and walks well on leash. Kukie is well behaved and playful. He's not crate trained, but due to his non destructive behavior, he's okay without it. Kukie is an escape artist, and we'd encourage any prospective adopter to ... (Read More)make sure that he is well enclosed or well leashed. He will bolt for the door, and he does love to run. At 6 years young, he has the energy to keep going and going and going! Now, if you're a runner or a hiker and you've got good command with dogs, his energy will be your greatest strength together. While he's indoors hanging out with his foster family, he's quiet as a mouse. That said, Kukie is an excellent watch dog, and we are confident that no one will arrive at your house and catch you off guard. We feel that Kukie will do well in a home where he has plenty of room to roam and gets plenty of exercise. Kukie would do well with an experienced dog owner, especially an owner who has worked with and owned dogs that have a bit of an independent streak. We all know that some of the most head strong people around us can be the most affectionate, and that holds true for Kukie. He will make an excellent companion in a home where he is not the 'boss,' but where he knows that his people have his back and will keep him lovingly in check. Rescue Me ID: 16-06-20-00338Bluu (male)

Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My name is Blue; my aim is true. And, I aim to be your true Blue. I am a 50lb 2-year-old male Pit-bull. I am neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. I am your typical high-energy, highly loveable Pittie boy. I am well housetrained and with regular daily exercise, I have no accidents. I am also crate-trained. I have had significant obedience training using the Gentle-leader harness. A firm patient human leader should have no trouble reinforcing my training. I am SO affectionate and eager to please! I know: Sit, Stay, Down and Come. I am a joyful and playful puppy. I am learning to fetch . . . but, sometimes, I get so excited I can't focus on ... (Read More)what I'm supposed to do! Good exercise, and lots of it, will be the keys to my success or failure. There is a reason why a certain well-known dog trainer recommends, 'exercise, discipline, affection.' I need exercise to release some of my abundant energy, and then I can focus on learning, and finally be rewarded with lots of love! I am good with other dogs, but do best in smaller groups of one or two additional dogs in supervised playtime-more dogs can be so exciting that it overwhelms me . . . remember I am still a young pup and I need you to help me manage my energy level. I live with a small Cavalier King Charles Spaniel foster brother and sometimes we even sleep together. I've lived with finches and canaries, that do not interest me. But I have to admit, I'm really NOT a cat kind of boy!!I have also lived with a teenager and young adult, whom I love. I am sometimes 'mouthy' when I am affectionately playing, but as I mature, I am learning to suppress this behavior. Due to my exuberant energy and affection, I should be supervised and coached when being introduced to small children or pets. My foster person says that I am an exceptional boy who will flourish in a home that can give me ample exercise. I am loving and loyal . . . I am true Blue! Rescue Me ID: 16-06-17-00450Bella (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This Southern Bella is one and a half years old and a mix of Hound and Lab. She weighs about 43 lbs. Her stunning brindle coat is accented by the white on her paws and the tip of her tail. Much more than the average house dog, Bella is looking for a job. Her skill set includes the ability to sniff out the lightest scents and track them, calculate the shortest distance between herself and her destination, run like the wind, and focus on the task at hand. We think she was trained as a hunting dog or maybe these skills have developed naturally. Either way - she is smart dog and wants to please. Outside she enjoys running with another dog ... (Read More)and playing. Inside the house, Bella is gentle, calm and affectionate. After a fun day of outdoor play, she likes nothing better than to be with her favorite people, cuddling. Bella is food motivated and already knows sit, stay, down and shake. She is a skilled leash walker, house broken and crate trained. She could be an incredible part of a K-9 Search & Rescue team. With what we have seen of Bella's tracking and chasing skills, we can not place her in a home with cats, bunnies, turtles, or similar. Great with dogs Loves people House broken Crate trained Well socialized, friendly, affectionate Our adoption fee is $350 which includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccines (Distemper, Bordetella, Parvo), worming and general health exam. Rescue Me ID: 16-06-05-00044Emory (female)

Boxer Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

'Contemplative, affectionate, joyful, puppy like, and playful.' These are the words that foster mom uses to describe our beautiful little Emory, or Emi, for short. 'The wheels are always turning behind those eyes,' says foster mom. Emi is one of those dogs who's always taking the world in, always observing, and very quick to learn. At a tender 6-8 months and 31 pounds, this boxer/beagle mix is just a sweet, little thing with a whole life time of wonder and learning ahead of her. She is quick to respond to correction and quick to learn from observation. She is also very food motivated, allowing us the opportunity to update the old saying to ... (Read More)say, 'The fastest way to a dog's heart is through their stomach.' We'd say that the fastest way to Emory's heart and her puppy education is through her stomach! She's almost completely house trained, crate trained, knows 'sit,' and has lived with other dogs and cats. She is very quiet in general, even in play. She hasn't spent too much time with children, and she tends to get pretty excited when she does see them, so we think she might be good with kids who are old enough to understand the nippy, frolicky, playful ways of a pup. With all of these smarts and this constant observation, foster mom thinks that Emi might be plotting for world domination. At the very least, she'd certainly like the chance to plot for a cuddly, warm place on your lap and a soft spot in your heart! Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This is Sid, he is spirited, spunky, a bit impetuous and delightful! He is a mixed breed guy that weighs about 30 lbs, is neutered, up to date with vaccines and micro-chipped. Sid is high energy, crate trained, house trained and is working on his leash skills. He is affectionate with people, but has not been around kids since coming to Vermont so we are not entirely sure how he is with them. He is playful and puppy like, he gets along with other dogs and even eats with his foster family. He can be a little strong willed but will generally comply with requests if he thinks there will be a reward. His foster family is doing some training with ... (Read More)him but he will need a family that can continue to guide his behavior. He is non-destructive and is able to entertain himself outside with a stick. Sid is adorably cute and full of personality. He will snuggle and grind his head in to get as close as possible. He is curious happy and he can even smile! He is generally quiet and will only bark when someone comes to the door or he hears something suspicious. He has a prance in his step and is sure to bring a smile to your face and joy to your heart. Dachshund Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This is Phillip a Dachsund/Beagle mix who is the typical 'big dog in a small body'. He is about 7 years old, weighs around 20 lbs and is neutered, micro-chipped and up to date with vaccines. Phillip is a macho little guy that likes to think he runs the show. He is house-trained, crate-trained and walks well on a leash; but get that leash on or he could bolt out the door! He is joyful, playful, medium energy level and only chews his toys. He likes to chase a ball. Phillip is a sweet boy but would do best in a home that understands small dog behaviors. He gets very excited and this comes out in barking/growling for food, going for a walk ... (Read More)etc. This is not aggressive or mean growling; this is pure exuberance and excitement! His foster family has been working with him to learn to gently take treats. Food is a passion for Phillip and at times he just can't control himself! He can be aggressive toward other animals when food or toys are involved. Phillip would be happiest in a home with children over 10 and no cats or other small animals. He would love to be the only pet in the home so he can strut his stuff and get all the attention but he would probably be OK with another dog that is larger than him and laid back. When his foster family leaves he is crated and he sleeps in the crate at night and does not make a peep. He has a beautiful shiny coat thanks to the coconut oil that his foster mom adds to his food. He is healthy and happy and now he just needs his furever family!     Potter's Angels? How about Potter's Giants! Here's Jack, a beautiful, 90 pound, lab/retriever/pit mix who's 3 years old and ready for action. Jack is a medium energy boy. He loves his exercise, however his foster mom says that he can be left alone in the house outside of a crate without getting into trouble. As with most big boys, though, he could use some consistent walking, running, or hiking to fulfill his needs. Jack is eager to please and very affectionate. He has even learned to balance a treat on his nose and catch it! You might hear him give a whine or two as he waits, but who can blame him? He needs some fuel to keep that big body ... (Read More)moving! He is neutered, house trained, trained to an electric fence, and even has a few other tricks up his sleeve. He will sit, shake a paw, and lie down on command. He does love his Kong and his bones, and will settle down for a good chew when he's ready to chill. Jack could use some work walking on a leash without pulling. Potter's would recommend that he be trained to walk with a head harness, since he is such a strong guy. Although Jack is friendly with all people he meets we are looking for a home without young children due to his size. Foster mom says that Jack is friendly toward other dogs and has a playmate his size who he loves to play hard with. However, he thinks cats were made for chasing so no cats for Jack! He can get distracted by strangers, she says, but we think that with his great size and beautiful face, he might distract a few strangers himself! If you are a lover of big dogs, Jack might be just the companion for you!     ^^PENDING ADOPTION^^ Ace is a happy-go-lucky Shepherd/Hound mix puppy who is approximately 5-6 months old. He was found as a stray by a rescuer- very underweight and tired. After some healthy meals, grooming and lots of love, this handsome pup is a new man. He is house broken, crate trained and gets along well with cats and dogs. He has mastered Sit and Down - and is ready to learn so much more. As a pup, he will need work on his leash skills and we always recommend taking a first level dog training class. Bulldog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We'd like to introduce you to Pierce, a fun loving, medium sized bull dog mix with sweet, soulful eyes and a joyful, playful, affectionate personality. At 1-2 years old he still has some of his puppy energy (which bubbles up in some wild scampering through the house at times), but for the most part he's the kind of guy who likes to relax with his foster family. He loves a nice walk every day to help him use up some energy, like most dogs do. He takes his walks with a harness, and occasionally he does need to be reminded not to pull when he sees something really great, like a rabbit or another dog. He has learned to sit, and he gets to do ... (Read More)that often to help him make sure he knows how important it is to pay attention to foster mom. What two year old doesn't need a little direction at times? With patience and practice he's turning into a real sitting champ! Pierce is generally a quiet boy, but he will bark to warn you if someone is at the door. He is crate trained, and spends his time there when his foster family is out. Pierce likes older kids, but with his bouts of energy, he might be a little much for younger children. 'In many ways he really is just a big, sweet baby with a squishy face, especially when he is sleeping; he makes sweet noises of contentment,' foster mom says. She feels that Pierce is going to make a wonderful companion to his people when he finds his forever home. Foster mom thinks that Pierce would do well in a home with folks who would continue his training and who have some prior experience with dogs. We would recommend a house without cats for this youngster. Pierce is a 1-2 month old bull dog mix. He weighs in at 45 pounds. He's neutered, microchipped, and is current on all vaccines. He knows 'sit', and he's almost housetrained. If you're looking for a partner for your next adventure, you might have found your dog! Rescue Me ID: 16-05-19-00313Tweek (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My name is Tweek and this name suits me well! I am an energetic, fun loving dude that is learning about all of the wonders that this world has to offer. I love to play with other energetic dogs. I'm kind of a weird little guy and I am looking for someone who can be understanding and patient with my excitable behavior. My foster mom currently walks me on a slip lead and I learn really fast. If you don't allow me to pull on the leash, I won't. However, I'm smart, so if you don't set the walking rules, I will start making my own rules. I know how to sit but I don't sit still for long. It is clear that in my past life, I was starved for ... (Read More)attention. When I first got to my foster people, I reacted towards many weird things like guard rails, stationary machinery, signs, cars, kids on bikes. I was seeing so many things for the first time. BUT when my people allowed me to investigate the things, I became disinterested to those same objects the next time around. I learn quickly and am doing well with such patient fosters. One thing is for sure, I am always full of happiness! The only time I really calm down is when I am in my crate. I calm down quickly in there. When I am left loose and alone, I could get a bit mischievous so having a crate for me to stay in when you're gone would be a good idea. I enjoy playing with other dogs and I would do best with another active dog. I am good with cats and leave them alone for the most part. I will pester them at times but respect them when they stand their ground. I would likely chase a cat if it ran but not to hurt it. I just wants to play with everyone I meet! I have not been around children before, but because I get so excited, it would probably be best if I lived in a home without kids. I can be a bit vocal when I am out in the big bad world, but I'm working on quieting down for my people. So basically, I'm just a little wild man. I'm full of character and I'm one of those dogs that you can't be sad around. If I can't lift your spirits, than nothing can. I do need some patience and understanding when I am out in the world, but I'm getting better every day. I'm not a dog for the faint of heart. I have a powerful presence and am looking for a partner that will work with me, not against me. Tweek is a 15 lb., 1 year old, Chihuahua mix. He is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Ello, Charlie here, so very pleased to make your acquaintance. I am a 50lb 2-3 year-old male American Pit Bull Terrier and I am neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. You might notice that I have a rather significant overbite that results from issues with my mandible and nasopharyngeal area and can cause some breathing difficulties from time to time. I have a prescription for two medications that I take only as needed-which is rarely. My people are happy to share more information with anyone interested in adopting me. It's just most important that I avoid becoming over-heated. I wear a 'Sense-ation' harness when walking. I have mastered, ... (Read More)'Sit,' 'Wait' and 'Down'. I sit and wait for my meals. So, now, I am learning, 'Leave It' and 'Off.' I am a happy puppy at heart. Sometimes, I am tempted by socks . . . but other than those wonderfully smelly garments, I don't bother my peoples' belongings. I do enjoy all manner of dog toys and chews. I like to play with them by myself, with people-friends, or with dog-friends, like me. My foster-sister, Libby and I are presently engaged in a never-ending war, called 'tug.' Even though people call it 'war,' its just play for us and we don't care who wins. I get along famously with quite a menagerie of dogs at my foster home . . . there is just one rather outspoken old man who is gruff with all of us, but I am learning to give him a wide-berth. Though no children live here, several visit regularly. They range from ages 8 to 14 and with slow respectful introductions I am very comfortable around them and rather enjoy being loved by them. I do recall that when younger children would rush at a dog I was frightened. When my people are away during the day, I stay in my crate. I complain a little at first, because I would much rather be with my people-friends or dog-friends, but I quiet down soon enough. I have been called, a lover and player, delightful, a sweet boy, and sometimes, a 'space-invader,' because I LOVE to snuggle. I am affectionate, eager to please and well-behaved. When I first meet new people, I can be a little standoffish-I do best if they just ignore me and allow me to approach them when I am ready. If you give me a little space when we first meet, I will be happy to 'invade your space' and give you love, if you let me. Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

My name is Lowen. It is pronounced (Lew-Vin) and means lion. But, my friends call me Lowie. I am an 84lb 2 year-old male . . . people speculate that I could be a boxer-mastiff-lab mix. I am neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. You may think that a big dog like me wouldn't be afraid of anything, especially something that is smaller than I am, but children scare me. I have been a practically perfect boy in nearly every other way, and my people are very sad that they can't keep me, but they are going to have a baby soon. They say I am a special dog that will forever hold a special place in their hearts-I am a friendly, loving, cuddly big ... (Read More)ole' goofball who is a joy to be around-and that I deserve a forever home where I can freely run and play without the stress of a young child. I am housetrained. I don't chew things that don't belong to me. When my people are out during the day, I have free roam. At night, I sleep in my crate. I am not vocal or whiney, but I do have a serious alert bark when people knock on the door. I enjoy regular exercise. Most days, I take two-30min. walks. Sometimes, I see children on my walk and I'm okay-I just prefer that they don't approach me. I love to play fetch in the fenced in yard. I also like to play at doggie daycare and do well with dogs of all sizes. Although I get along wonderfully with other dogs most of the time, I choose to eat separately because my food is very important to me. I have never lived with cats, but I have seen and barked at some. Squirrels are fun to chase. I know: Sit, Stay, Down, Leave It, Come, and Paw. I am a very well-behaved boy around the house, except for being an opportunistic sock-thief. But, if you put your dirty sox in the hamper where they belong, I can't steal them!     Hi! My name is Ben and I am a snuggly guy just looking for a home to call my own. My foster mom says I'm affectionate (I love to be in laps!) and well-behaved. I'm also a bit shy & fearful at first. I enjoy taking lots of naps and spending time outside. I'm cordial with other dogs, but wary of large dogs. It's possible that I may try to sneak a bit of another dog's food. I'm good with kids and love to ask for pets and belly rubs. I'm scared of people doing things with my paws so a professional groomer might be best for nail appointments. I would really like it if someone paid attention to my grooming needs and brushed me every ... (Read More)couple days. I am quiet, non-destructive and not really interested in toys. I'm also house trained, crate trained, and walk well on a leash. When my people are not home I have the run of the house, and am usually napping on the window sill when they get home. Ben is a 10lb, 4 year old, Chihuahua/Papillon mix. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Animal ID: BONDED PAIROzzie and Khaleesi (male)

Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Female Dogs Only, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Allow me to introduce you to the adorable Terrier twosome of Ozzie & Khaleesi. Ozzie is a 38lb 4 year-old male Terrier-mix. Khaleesi is a 30lb 4 year-old female Terrier-mix. They are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Ozzie & Khaleesi are a bonded-pair and must remain so. Their story began on a continent across several oceans, in Ghana, Africa. And, I'm not 'Ghana' lie . .life was uncertain and horrific for stray dogs, who risked being used as food. But luck would change for the pair, when a New Hampshire couple brought them to the U.S. And, things were going pretty well for them until recently when their living situation changed ... (Read More)and has become incompatible with this pair. The family that adopted Ozzie & Khaleesi moved from a rural to suburban neighborhood, and started a family. They now have a toddler and a baby on the way. So, Ozzie & Khaleesi are seeking a home where they won't have to endure the tough-love of a two-year-old grabbing and pulling at fur instead of petting gently. Ozzie is more tolerant of the toddler's attention, but Khaleesi is avoidant. Together, their needs are few . . a home with a little more quiet and little less chaos, a home with a little more adult and a little less child interaction . . a home where they can be the only pets (as cats are too much fun to chase). Ozzie & Khaleesi are generally good with most other dogs after proper introductions, and better with other female dogs. They require only average exercise. They love daily walks, with or without a leash-especially off-leash running or roaming (supervised, of course). They know: 'Come,' 'Sit,' and 'Down.' They are housetrained and have free-roam of the home. Ozzie communicates with touch, using his paw when asking to go outside. While, Khaleesi communicates by 'singing.' She will sing when she is happy to see you, and to ask to go out. She saves her whines for important things like being separated from her pal, Ozzie. So, as you can see, Ozzie & Khaleesi really have very few needs, but the most important is that they stay together. We are cross-posting this couple for the family who currently has them so there will be no adoption fee, however, you will need to submit an application below and be approved prior to meeting them. References and home visit will be required. To adopt, to submit an application please visit www.pottersangelsrescue.org There you may also view additional adoptable dogs and for more information. Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My name is Leah. I am a medium energy girl that my foster mom describes as eager to please, playful, affectionate and happy. I know 'sit' and 'down' and am eager to learn more! I am mouthy and I love my chew toys. I love children and am very tolerant of my foster homes children. I am sweet and submissive to every person I meet. With dogs, I try to be the boss. I am playful and respond well to balanced dogs, but I can be annoying to the submissive ones. I do live with cats and I want to play with them very badly but they just don't seem to want to! I can be vocal when playing. And barking at people and animals outside of my yard is fun too. I ... (Read More)am super happy and loving and have a lot of confidence in myself. Rescue Me ID: 16-03-26-00195Frida and Greta (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Still looking for a loving home for our girls. They are older but awesome companions. Posted a video of them playing in the warmer weather today. Please consider them if you love shepherds, have a nice yard, no young kids, and are looking for two dogs to keep you company without the excessive energy of a younger dog.**** These two girls were our first children. We are sadly needing to re-home them due to our son having significant allergic reactions to dogs. Frida and Greta are two wonderfully affectionate and classically loyal pure bred German Shepherds. They are a year apart and have grown up together. Frida is 8 and Greta will be turning ... (Read More)7 in June. They will need to be ADOPTED AS A PAIR as Greta, the less confident of the two (on the right in photo), greatly depends on Frida (on the left, darker face in photo) to feel secure. Frida and Greta would do well with someone looking for companion dogs to keep them company when they are home. They are fully house trained, can be left for a full working day if needed, and are very content to sleep on furniture most of the day. They enjoy each other's company but enjoy people's company more. They love being pet, talked to, played with, and also just being in your vicinity while you read, go on facebook, etc. *** Dogs and kids: They would likely do best in a home with no other dogs and no young children. They have never been asked to live with another, already established dog so it's hard to say how it would go- likely it could be done but it's hard to predict. They currently live with our 1 year old son. They have never shown aggression toward him (even when he grabbed Frida by the jowl and we had to pry him off of her) but they do actively avoid him (will move to a different room if he enters a room). They have been comfortable around older children (3-5) who ignore them or pet gently.*** Health: Neither dog has any major health problems. Both have dry skin. Frida's ears need frequent cleaning. Both dogs have had an ear hemotoma that was surgically dealt with. Frida has a cyst on her back that recently ruptured and will be removed. They eat 2.5 c/day of Iams Adult food, broken into 3 meals with a milkbone and piece of Pupperoni at each meal (yes, they are shepherds and couldn't just eat it plain!).*** Exercise: Frida and Greta are used to a good session of fetch daily/every other day in the yard. They love squeaky toys! We have a fenced in yard- Greta would never leave the yard but Frida would certainly wander without a fence (fortunately she mostly 'runs away' at a walk and enjoys being caught).*** Housemanners: Both dogs have excellent house manners. They do go on furniture because we have allowed that but are not persistent (if you put something on the couch like a big pillow to block them). They are not destructive, do not chew, etc. They will take food if it's on the floor and may consider something on a very low coffee table if left unattended but will not jump up and take things. *** Crating/being left alone: Frida is excellent being left- she can be left in or out of the crate. Greta needs to be left with Frida in order to feel okay. If left alone without Frida, she needs to be crated and will howl and show signs of significant anxiety. When crated next to Frida she does fine. Typically, when concerned about anything, both dogs feel most comfortable in their crates. Both are very good at going into their crates whenever asked. Rescue Me ID: 16-03-19-00043Joe Black (male)

Shar-Pei Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet, Joe Black! Joe Black is joyful, playful and puppy-like, well-behaved and shy. No one invested time in training Joe Black, until his rescue. So now, he is learning basic commands, and knows, 'Sit.' Joe Black finds walking on leash a little scary so he wears a harness. He is tentative of people at first, but responds quickly to human kindness. Joe Black doesn't live with children but we believe he would be fine with kids age 8 and older. Born to be a pack member, Joe Black should live in a home with other social dogs. Joe Black is very calm, easy-going and sweet with other dogs. He will engage in cordial play. He is gentle and takes ... (Read More)social cues and canine corrections well. He gets along with dogs of all ages, sizes and gender. Joe Black eats right along-side the other dogs, without incident. While untested, we believe he would get along well with cats and other animals. Joe Black is house trained and non-destructive. He is crated when left alone, but would probably be fine with free roam. Still need a reason to meet Joe Black? Well, we are told that he runs around like a newborn foal, not used to his legs, yet. Joe Black is a 45lb 2 year-old male Shar Pei mix. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Airedale Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My name is Billy. And, I am as agile as a Billy goat. Don't believe me? Just watch me climb! I am a super smart boy, too. Put together my climbing and jumping abilities with my supreme intelligence and what do you get? A future champion agility dog! Yeah, I see blue ribbons in my future. But, I have a very big hurdle to clear before that can happen . . . I have to be adopted. As much as I would love to compete for blue ribbons, I will feel like a champion just to have a HOME. So if agility isn't your thing, don't let that stop you from meeting me. I just need someone who will engage my brilliant mind and provide me with daily exercise ... (Read More)because I have energy to burn. Billy is a 43lb 1 %BD year-old male Hound-Airedale Terrier mix. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. He is affectionate, joyful, and playful. Billy knows how to sit and wait for his food, he enjoys running on the treadmill and is an excellent and well-behaved walking companion. He is crate trained and will require a crate in his new home. He loves to be with his people and be a part of what is going on. He is currently being fostered with 7 other dogs and has gotten along great with everyone, including a 5 lb chihuahua. We feel he would excel in a home that could provide him with the mental stimulation and leadership that he craves. He has even been introduced to cats and wasn't very interested in them. Billy is house-trained and non-destructive indoors when his people are home. He has met a two year old boy and been very respectful and gentle towards him, but we would rather not have a home with young children so that Billy's new home has the time (and energy) needed to provide a structured life for Billy. Billy is fun-loving, silly and goofy, and we are looking for the home that can keep this beautiful boy at his potential. Billy does extremely well with a structured routine and clearly defined expectations. Billy, part goat, part dog, is all worth it!     [Read About Natural Seizure Care] My name is Baxter.. I am fully house-trained and crate-trained. I know: Sit, Down, Stay, etc . . . I ignore cats and get along with dogs. My foster mom has 3 dogs and a cat and I play well with them. I REALLY like being with my human, I will lay near you while you work inside or outside. When my foster mom is gone I lay on the bed and wait for her to return. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE going for walks, jogs or hikes. I will tell you all about it, as quietly as I can while we get ready. Did I mention I LOVE going for walks and hanging out with you. I lived in a home with three small children and although I loved them ... (Read More)dearly they made me anxious when they got excited. Especially the really young ones that are unstable on their feet- I worry so much! I also went to a doggy day care which I loved. So, I am seeking home without young children under the age of 6 years where I can relax. I would love to be your companion! Do you enjoy training in agility? I excel at jumping obstacles, so I am pretty sure I would be good at it! I can leap over average-size 4' fences, and even 'invisible' fences, in a single bound. I have many other strengths, as well. I would be remiss if I did not also mention that I take an inexpensive medication twice-daily for a seizure disorder. My juvenile idiopathic epilepsy is totally managed with no side-effects or complications, and it does not slow me down!     Are you a well-balanced confident leader? Is your home environment calm and peaceful? Do you have experience working with strong intelligent breeds of dogs? Are you able to provide a well-structured routine? Are you a single adult or a couple looking for a companion dog? If you are, Emerson wants to meet you! Emerson is a 65 lb 4-year-old male Pit-Bull Terrier. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Emerson is crate-trained and house trained. He LOVES using the treadmill for indoor walks, as well as walking outside when on leash. Emerson is making great strides in his training and we feel he may be able to go to a home with another ... (Read More)dog who is calm and relaxed, but will wait for just the right fit. His interactions with other pets are fine under structured circumstances. But, we do not feel that Emerson would be successful in unstructured off-leash interactions at this point, because he becomes overly excited. However, every day he is showing improvement in this area! Nonetheless, we also recommend a home without children, so that a calm environment can be provided. Emerson likes having a routine. He thrives with a consistent daily schedule. Emerson is affectionate and loves a good head rub more than anything else. Emerson is eager to please and playful. Emerson does not like to be separated from his people if they are home. Don't expect to leave him out in the yard and have him be happy about it! However, if you leave the home, he quietly waits in his crate for your return. Emerson is currently being fostered by and is working with Paula Bergeron of the Good Dogma Canine Rehabilitation and Training Center in Grafton, NH. Emerson's foster/trainer, Paula, will offer his adopter four free lessons, and continued support for a positive beginning. **Emerson is part of our Home for the Holidays Special and his adoption fee has been reduced to $150 until the end of January** Dear Santa, I have been a very good boy and I was hoping, if it wouldn't be too much trouble . . . could I have a person and a home to call my very own? PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Vermont
Dogs can make good pets in Vermont if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
