Rescue Me ID: 16-05-27-00012JACK. (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Potter's Angels? How about Potter's Giants! Here's Jack, a beautiful, 90 pound, lab/retriever/pit mix who's 3 years old and ready for action. Jack is a medium energy boy. He loves his exercise, however his foster mom says that he can be left alone in the house outside of a crate without getting into trouble. As with most big boys, though, he could use some consistent walking, running, or hiking to fulfill his needs. Jack is eager to please and very affectionate. He has even learned to balance a treat on his nose and catch it! You might hear him give a whine or two as he waits, but who can blame him? He needs some fuel to keep that big body ... (Read More)moving! He is neutered, house trained, trained to an electric fence, and even has a few other tricks up his sleeve. He will sit, shake a paw, and lie down on command. He does love his Kong and his bones, and will settle down for a good chew when he's ready to chill. Jack could use some work walking on a leash without pulling. Potter's would recommend that he be trained to walk with a head harness, since he is such a strong guy. Although Jack is friendly with all people he meets we are looking for a home without young children due to his size. Foster mom says that Jack is friendly toward other dogs and has a playmate his size who he loves to play hard with. However, he thinks cats were made for chasing so no cats for Jack! He can get distracted by strangers, she says, but we think that with his great size and beautiful face, he might distract a few strangers himself! If you are a lover of big dogs, Jack might be just the companion for you!     Ace is a happy-go-lucky Shepherd/Hound mix puppy who is approximately 5-6 months old. He was found as a stray by a rescuer- very underweight and tired. Rescue Me ID: 16-05-23-00603Pierce (male)

Bulldog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We'd like to introduce you to Pierce, a fun loving, medium sized bull dog mix with sweet, soulful eyes and a joyful, playful, affectionate personality. At 1-2 years old he still has some of his puppy energy (which bubbles up in some wild scampering through the house at times), but for the most part he's the kind of guy who likes to relax with his foster family. He loves a nice walk every day to help him use up some energy, like most dogs do. He takes his walks with a harness, and occasionally he does need to be reminded not to pull when he sees something really great, like a rabbit or another dog. He has learned to sit, and he gets to do ... (Read More)that often to help him make sure he knows how important it is to pay attention to foster mom. What two year old doesn't need a little direction at times? With patience and practice he's turning into a real sitting champ! Pierce is generally a quiet boy, but he will bark to warn you if someone is at the door. He is crate trained, and spends his time there when his foster family is out. Pierce likes older kids, but with his bouts of energy, he might be a little much for younger children. 'In many ways he really is just a big, sweet baby with a squishy face, especially when he is sleeping; he makes sweet noises of contentment,' foster mom says. She feels that Pierce is going to make a wonderful companion to his people when he finds his forever home. Foster mom thinks that Pierce would do well in a home with folks who would continue his training and who have some prior experience with dogs. We would recommend a house without cats for this youngster. Pierce is a 1-2 month old bull dog mix. He weighs in at 45 pounds. He's neutered, microchipped, and is current on all vaccines. He knows 'sit', and he's almost housetrained. If you're looking for a partner for your next adventure, you might have found your dog!     Rupert is a loving, mellow, 2 year old, male, hound mix who enjoys active walks and calm snuggles. He is house broken, crate trained and is currently living in a home with other dogs and cats. His foster mom shares that he is a well behaved, loving lad. He never chews up things, jumps on people, tries to get past the baby gate, or begs for table scraps. Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hey there! My name is Raisin..I'm a medium size(35 lb) Lab/pit mix.. I'm only 1 1/2 so I want a family who wants to love me for a very long time.I'm a very pretty combination of black and white. My humans say that I'm super sweet and smart! That's a good thing, right? I love, love, love to play with other dogs, and it would be great if you had one, because I'm a GREAT playmate..just watch my video, you'll see.about a year and a half old. Cats? Not so much..I really like to chase those little things,it turns out the cats don't like to be chased!! Who knew?s I also really like kids..but my humans think I'm a bit to excited for the little ... (Read More)ones. Some of them move faster than I do!! That scares me a little, so I better stick with the bigger ones. I don't like to get into trouble. You know what I like the BEST? DIGGING!!! Can I do that at your house? I live next to farm fields, and I only dig where I'm supposed to. New places with exciting sights, smells, people, and dogs are trickier for me, and my human says I need a little more work to be off leash. I'm trying to learn the on-leash rules, too.I like to take a couple walks,or a long hike everyday--or playing with one of my own kind-that wears me out, too. I sleep in my crate all night, BUT once I'm been with you for a little bit, I can be trusted to sleep on my dog bed. When my humans go, wherever humans go, I stay in my crate. But only for 3-4 hours. I really need a human family that wants to spend time with me. I'm a fast learner, and I do listen very well when humans say nice things...like 'what a good girl' and 'good job,Raisin'. If you give me chance to be your forever friend, I promise you won't be sorry. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-19-00313Tweek (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My name is Tweek and this name suits me well! I am an energetic, fun loving dude that is learning about all of the wonders that this world has to offer. I love to play with other energetic dogs. I'm kind of a weird little guy and I am looking for someone who can be understanding and patient with my excitable behavior. My foster mom currently walks me on a slip lead and I learn really fast. If you don't allow me to pull on the leash, I won't. However, I'm smart, so if you don't set the walking rules, I will start making my own rules. I know how to sit but I don't sit still for long. It is clear that in my past life, I was starved for ... (Read More)attention. When I first got to my foster people, I reacted towards many weird things like guard rails, stationary machinery, signs, cars, kids on bikes. I was seeing so many things for the first time. BUT when my people allowed me to investigate the things, I became disinterested to those same objects the next time around. I learn quickly and am doing well with such patient fosters. One thing is for sure, I am always full of happiness! The only time I really calm down is when I am in my crate. I calm down quickly in there. When I am left loose and alone, I could get a bit mischievous so having a crate for me to stay in when you're gone would be a good idea. I enjoy playing with other dogs and I would do best with another active dog. I am good with cats and leave them alone for the most part. I will pester them at times but respect them when they stand their ground. I would likely chase a cat if it ran but not to hurt it. I just wants to play with everyone I meet! I have not been around children before, but because I get so excited, it would probably be best if I lived in a home without kids. I can be a bit vocal when I am out in the big bad world, but I'm working on quieting down for my people. So basically, I'm just a little wild man. I'm full of character and I'm one of those dogs that you can't be sad around. If I can't lift your spirits, than nothing can. I do need some patience and understanding when I am out in the world, but I'm getting better every day. I'm not a dog for the faint of heart. I have a powerful presence and am looking for a partner that will work with me, not against me. Tweek is a 15 lb., 1 year old, Chihuahua mix. He is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Ello, Charlie here, so very pleased to make your acquaintance. I am a 50lb 2-3 year-old male American Pit Bull Terrier and I am neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. You might notice that I have a rather significant overbite that results from issues with my mandible and nasopharyngeal area and can cause some breathing difficulties from time to time. I have a prescription for two medications that I take only as needed-which is rarely. My people are happy to share more information with anyone interested in adopting me. It's just most important that I avoid becoming over-heated. I wear a 'Sense-ation' harness when walking. I have mastered, ... (Read More)'Sit,' 'Wait' and 'Down'. I sit and wait for my meals. So, now, I am learning, 'Leave It' and 'Off.' I am a happy puppy at heart. Sometimes, I am tempted by socks . . . but other than those wonderfully smelly garments, I don't bother my peoples' belongings. I do enjoy all manner of dog toys and chews. I like to play with them by myself, with people-friends, or with dog-friends, like me. My foster-sister, Libby and I are presently engaged in a never-ending war, called 'tug.' Even though people call it 'war,' its just play for us and we don't care who wins. I get along famously with quite a menagerie of dogs at my foster home . . . there is just one rather outspoken old man who is gruff with all of us, but I am learning to give him a wide-berth. Though no children live here, several visit regularly. They range from ages 8 to 14 and with slow respectful introductions I am very comfortable around them and rather enjoy being loved by them. I do recall that when younger children would rush at a dog I was frightened. When my people are away during the day, I stay in my crate. I complain a little at first, because I would much rather be with my people-friends or dog-friends, but I quiet down soon enough. I have been called, a lover and player, delightful, a sweet boy, and sometimes, a 'space-invader,' because I LOVE to snuggle. I am affectionate, eager to please and well-behaved. When I first meet new people, I can be a little standoffish-I do best if they just ignore me and allow me to approach them when I am ready. If you give me a little space when we first meet, I will be happy to 'invade your space' and give you love, if you let me.     Hi! My name is Cherry, and I am a super happy, affectionate, playful, silly young lady. I am super smart too. I know Sit, Catch, come, get off (the couch), get out (of the kitchen) and Get down. I am a bit of a chewer, I would like a small collection of carefully chosen chew toys that can be rotated so I don't get bored. I respond very well to redirection when I'm chewing something inappropriate (couch pillows, the cat :) ) I get along beautifully with the other 6 dogs and the single cat that lives here. I'm playful and respectful, and almost always very very silly! I show a bit too much interest in chickens and ducks, so it may not be a ... (Read More)good idea for me to be around them. I love kids but I don't feel the need to run to them and introduce myself. I just hang around, and if they look like they're doing something or eating something of interest, I will make friends at that point. When meeting new people I act really shy but don't be fooled! I will come around with time. I stay in my crate when my people are not at home. Because I'm such a chewer, I may get into things when you are not at home if I am not crated. I sometimes stay in my crate at night and sometimes not. As long as I am sleeping and not playing with the other dogs or starting a riot at 2 a.m., it all works out just fine. I will sometimes bark and yip occasionally, but not often. My foster mom says that I'm incredibly lovable, and soft. I am a beautiful funny girl. I love to curl up with my people at night on the couch, I can get any of the other dogs to play and they all like me. I love to ride and hang around outside, I LOVE my toys -- and I am 100% puppy. I chews and fall asleep in inappropriate places, I eats like a Viking, I drools and spill water all over when I drink, and I have a big wide life-loving smile . .It's all part of my charm. Cherry is a 30 lb., 6 month old, Pitbull mix. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

My name is Lowen. It is pronounced (Lew-Vin) and means lion. But, my friends call me Lowie. I am an 84lb 2 year-old male . . . people speculate that I could be a boxer-mastiff-lab mix. I am neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. You may think that a big dog like me wouldn't be afraid of anything, especially something that is smaller than I am, but children scare me. I have been a practically perfect boy in nearly every other way, and my people are very sad that they can't keep me, but they are going to have a baby soon. They say I am a special dog that will forever hold a special place in their hearts-I am a friendly, loving, cuddly big ... (Read More)ole' goofball who is a joy to be around-and that I deserve a forever home where I can freely run and play without the stress of a young child. I am housetrained. I don't chew things that don't belong to me. When my people are out during the day, I have free roam. At night, I sleep in my crate. I am not vocal or whiney, but I do have a serious alert bark when people knock on the door. I enjoy regular exercise. Most days, I take two-30min. walks. Sometimes, I see children on my walk and I'm okay-I just prefer that they don't approach me. I love to play fetch in the fenced in yard. I also like to play at doggie daycare and do well with dogs of all sizes. Although I get along wonderfully with other dogs most of the time, I choose to eat separately because my food is very important to me. I have never lived with cats, but I have seen and barked at some. Squirrels are fun to chase. I know: Sit, Stay, Down, Leave It, Come, and Paw. I am a very well-behaved boy around the house, except for being an opportunistic sock-thief. But, if you put your dirty sox in the hamper where they belong, I can't steal them!     Hi! My name is Ben and this is my brother Jerry. Come on, who doesn't love Ben & Jerry's? We are a bonded pair and would like to be adopted together. Our foster mom describes us as affectionate and well-behaved. We are also a bit shy and fearful at first. We enjoy taking lots of naps and going outside. We are both cordial with other dogs, but we really like to just be with each other. It's possible that we may try and steal another dog's food. We are good with children. We occasionally ask the kids to pet us and Jerry likes to beg for belly rubs. Jerry is very fearful of having his manicures, so a professional may be best for this. We ... (Read More)would really like it if someone paid attention to our grooming needs and brushed us daily. When our people are not at home, we stay in our crate together. I am a bit shyer than my brother Jerry, but we are quiet, non-destructive and uninterested in toys. We are both house trained, crate trained and we walk well on a leash. Ben & Jerry are 10 & 12 lbs., 4 year old, Chihuahua/Papillon mixes. Both are neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.     I am regal; I am royal; I am a prince among dogs . . . I am Prince. I am a 15lb one-year-old male Min-Pin. I am neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. I am housetrained and crate-trained. I didn't have much formal training until my foster mom began working with me. We've been practicing walking on leash and I have nearly mastered that skill. I know, 'Sit,' 'Lay Down,' 'Get Down,' 'Kennel Up,' 'Go Potty, Outdoors,' and I come to my name, when called. I am a little skittish when first meeting someone new, because most of the people in my past have been untrustworthy. But, with a strong caring leader, I can learn to love again and live to my ... (Read More)full potential. I am a quick learner, especially when given tasty motivation. My foster mom believes that learning should be fun and some of what we learn should be how to have fun. So, she taught me to fetch, and sometimes, I even give it back! When I go in my kennel, I get a very special marrow bone treat. As much as I love treats and toys, I love snuggling most of all . . . especially under the covers. I LOVE car-rides! I am not food aggressive. I get along with dogs of all sizes. Due to my initial trust issues, older children or adults would be best for my forever family. When dreaming of her future, Snow White sang, 'Someday my Prince will come.' Well, I've been dreaming too. I've been dreaming of being someone's dream come true. Animal ID: BONDED PAIROzzie and Khaleesi (male)

Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Female Dogs Only, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Allow me to introduce you to the adorable Terrier twosome of Ozzie & Khaleesi. Ozzie is a 38lb 4 year-old male Terrier-mix. Khaleesi is a 30lb 4 year-old female Terrier-mix. They are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Ozzie & Khaleesi are a bonded-pair and must remain so. Their story began on a continent across several oceans, in Ghana, Africa. And, I'm not 'Ghana' lie . .life was uncertain and horrific for stray dogs, who risked being used as food. But luck would change for the pair, when a New Hampshire couple brought them to the U.S. And, things were going pretty well for them until recently when their living situation changed ... (Read More)and has become incompatible with this pair. The family that adopted Ozzie & Khaleesi moved from a rural to suburban neighborhood, and started a family. They now have a toddler and a baby on the way. So, Ozzie & Khaleesi are seeking a home where they won't have to endure the tough-love of a two-year-old grabbing and pulling at fur instead of petting gently. Ozzie is more tolerant of the toddler's attention, but Khaleesi is avoidant. Together, their needs are few . . a home with a little more quiet and little less chaos, a home with a little more adult and a little less child interaction . . a home where they can be the only pets (as cats are too much fun to chase). Ozzie & Khaleesi are generally good with most other dogs after proper introductions, and better with other female dogs. They require only average exercise. They love daily walks, with or without a leash-especially off-leash running or roaming (supervised, of course). They know: 'Come,' 'Sit,' and 'Down.' They are housetrained and have free-roam of the home. Ozzie communicates with touch, using his paw when asking to go outside. While, Khaleesi communicates by 'singing.' She will sing when she is happy to see you, and to ask to go out. She saves her whines for important things like being separated from her pal, Ozzie. So, as you can see, Ozzie & Khaleesi really have very few needs, but the most important is that they stay together. We are cross-posting this couple for the family who currently has them so there will be no adoption fee, however, you will need to submit an application below and be approved prior to meeting them. References and home visit will be required. To adopt, to submit an application please visit www.pottersangelsrescue.org There you may also view additional adoptable dogs and for more information. German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Still looking for a loving home for our girls. They are older but awesome companions. Posted a video of them playing in the warmer weather today. Please consider them if you love shepherds, have a nice yard, no young kids, and are looking for two dogs to keep you company without the excessive energy of a younger dog.**** These two girls were our first children. We are sadly needing to re-home them due to our son having significant allergic reactions to dogs. Frida and Greta are two wonderfully affectionate and classically loyal pure bred German Shepherds. They are a year apart and have grown up together. Frida is 8 and Greta will be turning ... (Read More)7 in June. They will need to be ADOPTED AS A PAIR as Greta, the less confident of the two (on the right in photo), greatly depends on Frida (on the left, darker face in photo) to feel secure. Frida and Greta would do well with someone looking for companion dogs to keep them company when they are home. They are fully house trained, can be left for a full working day if needed, and are very content to sleep on furniture most of the day. They enjoy each other's company but enjoy people's company more. They love being pet, talked to, played with, and also just being in your vicinity while you read, go on facebook, etc. *** Dogs and kids: They would likely do best in a home with no other dogs and no young children. They have never been asked to live with another, already established dog so it's hard to say how it would go- likely it could be done but it's hard to predict. They currently live with our 1 year old son. They have never shown aggression toward him (even when he grabbed Frida by the jowl and we had to pry him off of her) but they do actively avoid him (will move to a different room if he enters a room). They have been comfortable around older children (3-5) who ignore them or pet gently.*** Health: Neither dog has any major health problems. Both have dry skin. Frida's ears need frequent cleaning. Both dogs have had an ear hemotoma that was surgically dealt with. Frida has a cyst on her back that recently ruptured and will be removed. They eat 2.5 c/day of Iams Adult food, broken into 3 meals with a milkbone and piece of Pupperoni at each meal (yes, they are shepherds and couldn't just eat it plain!).*** Exercise: Frida and Greta are used to a good session of fetch daily/every other day in the yard. They love squeaky toys! We have a fenced in yard- Greta would never leave the yard but Frida would certainly wander without a fence (fortunately she mostly 'runs away' at a walk and enjoys being caught).*** Housemanners: Both dogs have excellent house manners. They do go on furniture because we have allowed that but are not persistent (if you put something on the couch like a big pillow to block them). They are not destructive, do not chew, etc. They will take food if it's on the floor and may consider something on a very low coffee table if left unattended but will not jump up and take things. *** Crating/being left alone: Frida is excellent being left- she can be left in or out of the crate. Greta needs to be left with Frida in order to feel okay. If left alone without Frida, she needs to be crated and will howl and show signs of significant anxiety. When crated next to Frida she does fine. Typically, when concerned about anything, both dogs feel most comfortable in their crates. Both are very good at going into their crates whenever asked. Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My name is Pacino. I am affectionate, joyful, well-behaved and playful. My foster mom says I have the most beautiful brown eyes and that I am as sweet as can be. I have a funny way of sitting where my legs flop out to the sides. This is one of the many things that makes me extra precious. I am also very cuddly, in fact, my foster mom says I am kind of irresistible as I like to melt into her and then flop on the floor preparing for the inevitable belly rub. I'm a very mellow guy. You could call me the calm and quiet type when hanging out at home. I enjoy a calm home and would prefer to be the only pet for this reason. Obviously, kids are ... (Read More)excitable little creatures as well and I think I would prefer to live the quiet life in a kid free home. I know that is asking a lot, but I have some very good qualities that make up for my preference of living alone. When my people are not at home, I get to stay loose in the house. I don't chew or get into anything and I am house trained. I absolutely love to play fetch, but I haven't mastered the art of returning the item to you. For now, we will call it a game of take and continue to work on this. I know a few commands like 'Sit' and 'Down' and I'm learning how to sit and wait for my meals too. I am a low energy dog, I am house and crate trained and walk wonderfully with a gentle leader. Pacino is a 2 year old, 55 lb. Retriever Mix. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Rescue Me ID: 16-03-19-00043Joe Black (male)

Shar-Pei Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet, Joe Black! Joe Black is joyful, playful and puppy-like, well-behaved and shy. No one invested time in training Joe Black, until his rescue. So now, he is learning basic commands, and knows, 'Sit.' Joe Black finds walking on leash a little scary so he wears a harness. He is tentative of people at first, but responds quickly to human kindness. Joe Black doesn't live with children but we believe he would be fine with kids age 8 and older. Born to be a pack member, Joe Black should live in a home with other social dogs. Joe Black is very calm, easy-going and sweet with other dogs. He will engage in cordial play. He is gentle and takes ... (Read More)social cues and canine corrections well. He gets along with dogs of all ages, sizes and gender. Joe Black eats right along-side the other dogs, without incident. While untested, we believe he would get along well with cats and other animals. Joe Black is house trained and non-destructive. He is crated when left alone, but would probably be fine with free roam. Still need a reason to meet Joe Black? Well, we are told that he runs around like a newborn foal, not used to his legs, yet. Joe Black is a 45lb 2 year-old male Shar Pei mix. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Bulldog    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Otis is a purebred Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog, a breed originating in Georgia. He is big, 70 pounds and will get bigger, nearly 80 pounds. Otis is in full time training here at the rescue with a member of the VT Canine Unit, a retired police officer. Otis is learning basic leash skills, recall skills and just the manners that make a dog fun to have around. He is a happy, goofy, puppy that happens to be big. We have seen not a moment of any kind of aggression. Otis does not understand his size and as such could knock over small children without even knowing it. We reccomend a home with older kids. His breed needs regular exercise. He does ... (Read More)well with praise and positive reinforcement. We will give priority to a home with bulldog experience, a fenced yard and a commitment to furthering Otis's training. Airedale Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My name is Billy. And, I am as agile as a Billy goat. Don't believe me? Just watch me climb! I am a super smart boy, too. Put together my climbing and jumping abilities with my supreme intelligence and what do you get? A future champion agility dog! Yeah, I see blue ribbons in my future. But, I have a very big hurdle to clear before that can happen . . . I have to be adopted. As much as I would love to compete for blue ribbons, I will feel like a champion just to have a HOME. So if agility isn't your thing, don't let that stop you from meeting me. I just need someone who will engage my brilliant mind and provide me with daily exercise ... (Read More)because I have energy to burn. Billy is a 43lb 1 %BD year-old male Hound-Airedale Terrier mix. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. He is affectionate, joyful, and playful. Billy knows how to sit and wait for his food, he enjoys running on the treadmill and is an excellent and well-behaved walking companion. He is crate trained and will require a crate in his new home. He loves to be with his people and be a part of what is going on. He is currently being fostered with 7 other dogs and has gotten along great with everyone, including a 5 lb chihuahua. We feel he would excel in a home that could provide him with the mental stimulation and leadership that he craves. He has even been introduced to cats and wasn't very interested in them. Billy is house-trained and non-destructive indoors when his people are home. He has met a two year old boy and been very respectful and gentle towards him, but we would rather not have a home with young children so that Billy's new home has the time (and energy) needed to provide a structured life for Billy. Billy is fun-loving, silly and goofy, and we are looking for the home that can keep this beautiful boy at his potential. Billy does extremely well with a structured routine and clearly defined expectations. Billy, part goat, part dog, is all worth it! German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Seizures

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] My name is Baxter. I possess super powers. I have so much green energy, I could reduce dependence on fossil fuels. And, I can leap over average-size fences, and even 'invisible' fences, in a single bound. I have many other strengths, as well. Like, I am fully housetrained and crate-trained. I know: Sit, Down, Stay, etc . . . I ignore cats and get along with most dogs, especially those that are submissive. I have lived with children and while I am well-behaved and loving with them, I would prefer not to live with them full-time . . . they really stress me out! So, I am seeking a quiet adults-only home. But I ... (Read More)also want someone with an active lifestyle to share my energy with. Do you go for daily hikes or jogs? I would love to be your companion! Do you enjoy training in agility? I excel at jumping obstacles! I would be remiss if I did not also mention that I take an inexpensive medication twice-daily for a seizure disorder. My juvenile idiopathic epilepsy is totally managed with no side-effects or complications, and it does not slow me down! Baxter is an approximately 3 1/2 year-old 55lb male Shepard mix. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Are you a well-balanced confident leader? Is your home environment calm and peaceful? Do you have experience working with strong intelligent breeds of dogs? Are you able to provide a well-structured routine? Are you a single adult or a couple looking for a companion dog? If you are, Emerson wants to meet you! Emerson is a 65 lb 4-year-old male Pit-Bull Terrier. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Emerson is crate-trained and house trained. He LOVES using the treadmill for indoor walks, as well as walking outside when on leash. Emerson is making great strides in his training and we feel he may be able to go to a home with another ... (Read More)dog who is calm and relaxed, but will wait for just the right fit. His interactions with other pets are fine under structured circumstances. But, we do not feel that Emerson would be successful in unstructured off-leash interactions at this point, because he becomes overly excited. However, every day he is showing improvement in this area! Nonetheless, we also recommend a home without children, so that a calm environment can be provided. Emerson likes having a routine. He thrives with a consistent daily schedule. Emerson is affectionate and loves a good head rub more than anything else. Emerson is eager to please and playful. Emerson does not like to be separated from his people if they are home. Don't expect to leave him out in the yard and have him be happy about it! However, if you leave the home, he quietly waits in his crate for your return. Emerson is currently being fostered by and is working with Paula Bergeron of the Good Dogma Canine Rehabilitation and Training Center in Grafton, NH. Emerson's foster/trainer, Paula, will offer his adopter four free lessons, and continued support for a positive beginning. **Emerson is part of our Home for the Holidays Special and his adoption fee has been reduced to $150 until the end of January** Dear Santa, I have been a very good boy and I was hoping, if it wouldn't be too much trouble . . . could I have a person and a home to call my very own? Rat Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lexi is a beautiful 7-year-old Decker Rat Terrier. Lexi is very well crate trained and is leashed trained. As she has a very inquisitive nature, she will need a fenced yard but if you have wide-open spaces, this girl loves to run. She is a high energy; high anxiety dog but LOVES to cuddle and enjoys people once she warms up to you. True to her breed, she is enamored with chasing cats and small animals, so a house without small dogs or cats would probably be best. PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Vermont
Dogs can make good pets in Vermont if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia Low-Cost Vermont Spay & Neuter Clinics
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. The dog was the earliest domesticated animal. Dogs can hear much lower frequencies than humans, over twice as high as humans, and about four times as far as humans.
