Rescue Me ID: 16-02-05-00432Gabby (female)

Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Seizures

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] This sweet and very special girl is Gabby. She is a 4 year old, 45 lb boxer mix. She is more boxer in looks than personality though. We call her the Anti-Boxer. She is mild mannered and mellow and she prefers the same from her dog friends. She is currently on a low-reside food diet along with Metronidazole to help treat her Colitis that we believe was caused due to overuse of antibiotics. She is also on a Probiotic to promote GI health, it is unclear at this point whether this medication regimen will be needed long term. Gabby was also recently diagnosed with epilepsy and is on a daily medication, which has ... (Read More)prevented any further seizures. She has even started becoming playful with the other pups in her foster home. Gabby has velvety soft fur that her foster mom cannot resist; when she is near she must pet her! She is initially timid of new people. But in short time you will be rewarded with her gentle boxer kisses. She will wag her tail a mile a minute when you kiss her face and squish those irresistible cheeks and tell her how beautiful she is. Due to her calm and timid nature we feel she will be happiest in a home without children. She is crate trained, although that is not needed. She is not destructive and well house trained and is left loose in the home when left alone. She also walks well on a leash. She is curious about the farm animals next door, but doesn't seem overly interested. Gabby is low energy and enjoys lounging on a comfy couch or bed. She is a slow eater so she is fed separately from the other pups- we want to be sure she gets every single kibble so she can put some weight on her! She also takes her treats very gently. Gabby is a lovely girl that comes from a hard past and deserves a family that will treat her with tender, loving care and in return, she will reward them with all the snuggles and kisses one could ever hope for. American Bulldog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This big lug is Darwin! Darwin is a 70lb, 2yr old American Bulldog mix who just loves everyone and everything! He's always up for a good snuggle, and occasionally forgets his size as he quickly barrels around the house looking for the next person to cozy up with. Darwin still has much of his puppy-like energy, and loves nothing more than to use that energy chasing sticks and balls in the back yard. He is excitable when playing, and is learning quickly that his mouth is for toys and food only. Even though Darwin has some puppy-like qualities, he is a very smart boy! He is both house and crate trained, and knows many commands such as 'sit', ... (Read More)'stay', 'lay', 'easy', 'come', and 'no'. Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs

The name Teddy begins with the letter T. There are many other words that begin with T that could be used to describe Teddy too. Teddy is two years old, ten pounds, and tri-colored. Rescue Me ID: 16-02-05-00014Hillary (female)

Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This heavenly harmonious hilariously happy girl is Hillary. Hillary does not seem to know her shelter-given name but responds well to 'Mama' and 'Mama-Bear.' Mama Hillary has been a loving nurturing mother to her litter, and now she is looking for a family to share her love and love of life with. Hillary is a 41lb 2-year-old female Boxer-mix. She is spayed, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Hillary is housetrained and crate-trained and also, training to walk well on leash. Hillary is learning Stay and Down, but most importantly, Come. At mealtime, Hillary sits like a lady and Waits to be served. Hillary shows no aggression, dominance or ... (Read More)possessiveness around food, toys or people. She respects and ignores the cat (and chinchilla) and shares, her dish, toys and bed with other dogs. Hillary is very quiet-no barking at all and only whimpering if she thinks she is going to be left alone. Hillary doesn't like to be left alone. But she does perfectly well when left home alone with other dogs-with no destruction of property or soiling. Hillary sleeps in a crate overnight. Her foster family calls her crate Beddies, and she goes in on her own. If allowed, however, Hillary would prefer to sleep with her people-either on a dog bed in their room or on their bed. She really likes to snuggle and loves to be with people. Hillary loves EVERYONE and we only caution on younger children, because she plays 'like a boxer,' using her paws and could accidently 'box' a small child with her paw. Hillary's skills also include the unusual talent of climbing the chain-link fence. In her foster mom's own words: 'She is gentle, playful, kind and has a sense of sweetness about her, She's also funny like a clown and can pretty much have fun with anything. Her fur is VERY soft and she doesn't seem to shed a lot. If allowed, she will be a lap dog. [I] can't stress enough how sweet and gentle she is. Hillary needs a loving home-a home that will allow her to give and get 'hugs.' We have seen her become skittish at times-for example, she initially cowered around an open flame but, through slow positive desensitization, she became secure. She can startle at sudden noises-she will run away and hide if she does not feel secure. This girl is going to trust her person to love and protect her-and she wants nothing more than to be a loyal forever sidekick. Hillary should be a part of a family . . . not just a pet.' Not to be confused with any political candidate from any party campaigning for public office, Hillary would be the perfect 'running-mate.' Papillon Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Spayed

I am the beautiful Miss Penelope, but my foster mom calls me Penny. I'm good with other dogs. I live in a foster home that has lots of furry friends for me. I'm puppy-like, affectionate and playful. I can be a bit standoffish and I like to bark at strangers. When I bark too much, I get a little squirt gun reminder that it's not a good idea. I already know how to sit for my meals and I'm working on mastering 'come' and 'down'. I enjoy spending time outside playing with the other dogs, only picking on them occasionally. Chasing balls is a lot of fun too. I am very food motivated. I'm starting to figure out that I only get treats when ... (Read More)I'm not barking at strangers. Thumper is very treat motivated and eager to learn new things. He is learning to walk well with a chain leash that his foster mom keeps taut to teach him to walk by her side and not in front of her. Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My name is Levi. I am a high energy dog with lots of love to give to the right family. I'm affectionate, puppy-like and playful, but I won't show you that side of me until I am sure you are good people. I have been bounced around quite a bit so I am a bit skittish and fearful of new humans. I enjoy playing with other dogs, but if they don't want to play with me, I'm not the type that takes no for an answer. I would like another high energy playmate because the boring dogs apparently find me annoying. Whatever ! When you move at me to quick, it's scary ! But hey, I'm not all mischievous. I love kids. They are small and super fun to play with. I like their toys too, and may try to claim them as my own. I enjoy the outdoors and my foster mom says I leap and bound like a deer. A very small deer, but they got nothing on me! I am Leaping Levi ! I would like a patient family that will understand it may take me a while to warm up to them, but once I do, I'm sweet, loving and I like to play with the people that make me feel safe. Rescue Me ID: 16-02-04-00689Rocky (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected,
 Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

Rocky is a beautiful, intelligent mix who had a rough background with folks who didn't quite know what to do with him. Born with a natural intelligence and the strong instincts of two high-maintenance breeds, he still did not receive any formal training and was often just locked out in the backyard, where he was often antagonized by a human neighbor. Eventually Rocky defended himself and his owners decided to euthanize him unless someone would take him immediately. Luckily, someone stepped in and worked with Rocky for some time, even getting him to do well with other dogs and beginning to correct his lack of training. Unfortunately this ... (Read More)person could no longer keep him for living arrangement reasons and sought help but we have not been able to find any. Rocky is currently in boarding in Vermont but we need to get him out of there asap as it can not have any positive effects on his behavior and need for a consistent environment. I am spending everything I have to keep Rocky from euthanasia but I and the woman who originally saved him are at our wits end. Rocky needs a strong and EXPERIENCED handler and would do best in a home with no children and perhaps another dog or two, although he may do best as an only dog. He would do best with an owner who has lots of time for him and enjoys exercise, particularly the kind he can join in on! With dog handling expertise, enough exercise, and the proper training, Rocky would be the most fantastic companion one could hope for. He needs an experienced owner because he does need more training and consistency- he is very intelligent and picks up on the slightest behavioral cues from body language to vocal tones. It is especially important for Rocky to have enough space if there are other animals in a home, as that would decrease any risk of confrontations and/or stress. Please please PLEASE help us find this boy a home. (Less)

This is a posting by Vermont English Bulldog Rescue a 501(c)3 non profit corporation. Jack is a 7 year old EB coming all the way from Kuwait. He will arrive on or about 2/5/16. We are hoping to match him with a forever home prior to arrival. Jack has been abandoned 2x in Kuwait by folks that he trusted as his family. He has been fostered now for 5 months and needs consistency. Jack needs to be the only dog in the house. He is great with humans although his size would be too much for youngsters.     If you have a 'hankering' for a snuggly, joyful and playful puppy, then Hank may be just what you need! Hank is a 9 month old, 49 lbs, Retriever mix. He is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. Hank really loves to play with the big dogs at his foster home, the smaller dogs don't pay him much attention. He has not spent time with cats.     I find it is often best to share (word-for-word) what a foster-person tells me about their foster-dog: 'Grady was pulled from a shelter in North Carolina with only two hours to spare. He had been deemed unadoptable due to his physical condition. Thankfully, a shelter volunteer saw past his looks and made a plea for a rescue to pull him out before it was too late. When Grady arrived at his Vermont foster home in August he could only be described as a 'hot mess.' He had a terrible limp and was very overweight; he could hardly move. His fur was dull with large patches missing and his skin was dry and flaking off. Since then he has lost some ... (Read More)weight, had a surgery to fix his knee and his fur and skin are looking great! He has a thyroid disease which causes weight gain and skin issues, both are treated with daily medication. Grady has been an absolute delight. He is sweet, loving, determined and has a great attitude. He is so easy to have around and he makes us laugh. It will be heart breaking to let him go and the only reason we are letting him go is because we know there are so many dogs just like him that are waiting for their chance to be pulled from a shelter. Whoever gets Grady as his final forever family will be very lucky indeed!' Grady is a 45lb 6 year-old male Lab mix. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Grady is housetrained and walks well on leash. He knows 'Sit' and 'Leave it.' He is well-behaved and trusted home alone. Grady gets along with his foster-sibling, who is also older. He would do best in a home with limited stairs to navigate as he is recovering from knee surgery. His adoptive family should continue to gently encourage him to slowly strengthen his knee, manage his weight, and diligently administer his medication. Grady is calm and has low-energy. Grady is great with children. He is affectionate and gentle; accepting hugs and kisses from toddlers is totally within Grady's wheelhouse. Grady, from one hot mess, to 'oh my YES!'     This lovely little lady is Jackie! And a true lady she is! At 6 months old, Jackie is house and crate trained, and shows just how eager to please she is. She may still occasionally nibble on cardboard or her blanket but is easily redirected back to her toys. She is so smart, she knows 'sit', 'down', 'stay', and 'paw'. Jackie loves playing with her puppy pals, and is sometimes a little vocal with all the excitement.     Meet B.B. King. This sweet boy had a rough start in life. As a small puppy, he was hit by a car in front of a Burger King restaurant in Puerto Rico. The kind woman named Sonia, who helped him, gave him the name, B.B. King. At just over a year old, he has fully recovered.     [Read About Natural Seizure Care] My name is Baxter. I possess super powers. I have so much green energy, I could reduce dependence on fossil fuels. And, I can leap over average-size fences, and even 'invisible' fences, in a single bound. I have many other strengths, as well. Like, I am fully housetrained and crate-trained. I know: Sit, Down, Stay, etc . . . I ignore cats and get along with most dogs, especially those that are submissive.     Jazzy is, 'bright, lively, or fancy in a way that is meant to attract attention,' according to the Merriam Webster dictionary. Jazzy wears a short saddle-brown coat with white markings. She is currently being fostered in a home with multiple dogs and she is doing wonderfully. Don't be alarmed by her deep growl-that is her 'play voice.' She has low to medium energy and loves to both play and snuggle with canines and humans. Her Vermont foster mom says, she is a joy to come home to each day. Jazzy is housetrained. She likes to chew on bones. She stays in her crate when she has to be left alone during the day. At night, she helps to warm the ... (Read More)bed. Jazzy walks well on leash and will 'Sit' and 'Wait' before eating meals. Jazzy was initially afraid to get in the car, but she has improved. She is also fearful of loud noises and will get in 'combat-crawl' position when faced with things that make her uneasy. Her North Carolina foster mom shares, 'Jazzy has been a picture of unconditional love and forgiveness. It is hard to let such a jewel leave. Whoever has the Blessing of caring for her will have a bounty of love running over and a friend that will bring sunshine to their days.' Neither of Jazzy's foster homes have children. Her NC foster mom said she was well-behaved around children that she encountered on walks, but since we don't know Jazzy's history, we can only recommend her to a home with children aged 10 and older. Shake your jazz-paws if you think Jazzy is snazzy! Jazzy is a 55lb 3-year-old female American Pit Bull Terrier. She is spayed, vaccinated and micro-chipped. As soon as I can I will find a home where I can have him, and I will return to VT to get him. This process could take 2-6 months. I am unsure. Please help Petey and I, thank you.

Are you a well-balanced confident leader? Is your home environment calm and peaceful? Do you have experience working with strong intelligent breeds of dogs? Are you able to provide a well-structured routine? Are you a single adult or a couple looking for a companion dog? If you are, Emerson wants to meet you! Emerson is a 65 lb 4-year-old male Pit-Bull Terrier. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Emerson is crate-trained and house trained. He LOVES using the treadmill for indoor walks, as well as walking outside when on leash. Emerson is making great strides in his training and we feel he may be able to go to a home with another ... (Read More)dog who is calm and relaxed, but will wait for just the right fit. His interactions with other pets are fine under structured circumstances. But, we do not feel that Emerson would be successful in unstructured off-leash interactions at this point, because he becomes overly excited. However, every day he is showing improvement in this area! Nonetheless, we also recommend a home without children, so that a calm environment can be provided. Emerson likes having a routine. He thrives with a consistent daily schedule. Emerson is affectionate and loves a good head rub more than anything else. Emerson is eager to please and playful. Emerson does not like to be separated from his people if they are home. Don't expect to leave him out in the yard and have him be happy about it! However, if you leave the home, he quietly waits in his crate for your return. Emerson is currently being fostered by and is working with Paula Bergeron of the Good Dogma Canine Rehabilitation and Training Center in Grafton, NH. Emerson's foster/trainer, Paula, will offer his adopter four free lessons, and continued support for a positive beginning. **Emerson is part of our Home for the Holidays Special and his adoption fee has been reduced to $150 until the end of January** Dear Santa, I have been a very good boy and I was hoping, if it wouldn't be too much trouble . . . could I have a person and a home to call my very own? Rescue Me ID: 15-10-13-00072Nugget (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Nugget. That word has various meanings. Traditional definitions include: a solid lump of valuable metal, a small piece of food, or a piece of valuable information. A slang definition for nugget is a strange or silly person - as in 'Oh, you nugget!' The Nugget we're talking about is 30 lb, about 1 year old, and a Shepherd mix. He was found locally as a stray and was unclaimed. Nugget is very much like a puppy; high energy and loves, Loves, LOVES balls and would do anything for one. He enjoys going for walks and would enjoy being part of an active family. He gives great kisses and has earned his black belt in cuddling. He resides in a home ... (Read More)with two other dogs and enjoys playing with them. He also lives with a nine year old boy. He does fine with him, but because of his high energy, we feel he should go to a homes with older children only. He is house trained and crate trained. Occasionally, he counter surfs so put those yummy dishes away. With patience, love, and consistent training - we're confident Nugget will live up to his name. He already sits still at the door allowing his paws to be cleaned so he doesn't track mud all over the house (yes we are still dealing with mud in December!). He enjoys a clean home as do his people. He is very agile and smart and rarely chews things that are off-limits'|stuffies not included. He believes all stuffies should be disemboweled in swift fashion! Nugget can be stubborn at times but we have found that positive reinforcement is an excellent training method for him as he is highly motivated by a ball and treats and like most kids, Nugget would probably love eating chicken nuggets! What Nugget needs the most is an adoptive home that will give him structure first, then love and affection second. He has a very sweet personality and is a perfect gentleman when handled correctly. Nugget has been neutered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped. Rescue Me ID: 15-07-27-00182Blake (male)

Chow Chow Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Blake is a sweet 18 month old pooch that weighs approximately 45 lbs, right now. He is a plump little fluff ball that loves people. Blake came from a high kill shelter in Miami and at the age of 8 weeks old, was taken by a foster mom in Florida (thank you Rhonda for helping us to save Blake) and given a good start during his important socialization period. As such, he is friendly and outgoing with most folks although he does need to have a gradual introduction period. He appears to be on the fearful side, which is a new development with him. With regards to breed, well, we believe that he is 100% purebred, 'we don't know'(our vet ... (Read More)thinks he is a chow mix). His mom (that is also with us) is full grown and weighs 45 pounds. As such, based on his growth rate right now and his mom's stature, we don't believe that Blake will grow beyond 45 lbs. Blake is crate trained, up to date on all medical, and neutered. Blake came into rescue as a puppy and is growing up here, he needs someone to give him a chance. Available for adoption in VT. and NH. only. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Vermont
Dogs can make good pets in Vermont if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia Low-Cost Vermont Spay & Neuter Clinics
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.)
