Tonsai is an energetic, 16lb, 5 month old, Blue Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) that loves to have fun! He enjoys fetch, having his belly rubbed, chewing bones and 'find-it.' He also loves working for his food and will sit and wait until you free him. Tonsai is very intelligent and understands commands within a few days and is able to perform them on cue within a week (he knows basic commands plus a few extras). He is crate trained and is so close to mastering house training and lets us know when he has to go out. His best qualities are the way his little butt shakes when he sees you, his playfulness, and willingness to learn (he is learning ... (Read More)to swim right now!). When we took him and his littermate home, we were unaware of littermate syndrome. We now believe we are seeing signs of this. I am also pregnant, which has made us realize we cannot provide the right environment developmentally for him. We are choosing to rehome him because Tonsai has exhibited fierce resource guarding with his littermate and with us. With his littermate, it is food, toys and especially high-value bones. With us it is just with the bones and we have never had an issue with regular feeding, in fact we are able to hand feed and he welcomes help flipping his maze bowl over to get every last piece. Tonsai enjoys walks/runs but becomes reactive seeing other dogs and people. He usually just wants to say 'Hi' but his intense barking turns off potential friends and his frustrations get taken out on the leash or have been directed at us. Tonsai does not react well to swift movements and becomes defensive, especially if scared or in a new environment. He is always on alert and will let you know if he hears anything unusual. Multiple professional dog trainers have given us some great tips to correct some of these behaviors and within a couple weeks of training he is showing slow progress. We are willing to share more information and examples with anyone who is seriously interested in adopting. We believe Tonsai is young and smart enough to overcome these behaviors with the right training and environment. He should not be in a home with young children. We are unsure if he should be placed with other dogs. We say this because we are not sure if we are seeing littermate syndrome and his issues will improve or if he will be this way with other dogs. However, during socialization he had always played well with other dogs and had a great time! He is vaccinated and has his rabies. He will also come with his crate, bowls, leash, harness & collar, and a few favorite toys. He is currently enrolled in Basic Manners Positive Reinforcement Training, if he goes to a local home, we would like if you would continue this class with him which will help you bond. We have and will continue to give him love and will do everything we can to find the right home for him. He really is an amazing dog that needs a different environment and behavior training. I do okay with males and females, but am a little more guarded when introduced to a male for the first time. As you can see, I am extremely handsome and have very beautiful eyes. I am very vocally expressive and let you know what I want. I have shown aggression on two occasions towards my owner. Once when I went behind the couch with something I wasn't supposed to have. I growled somewhat viciously at my mom when she reached to take it from me. I recently bit my mom in the arm when she tried to make me take a bath. They have never hit me, but have only shown me a lot of love, so I am not sure why I reacted this way. I hope someone will give me a chance to prove I am extremely loving, but may also need to be in a home where my behavior is monitored closely around other people. I am used to being crated a couple hours a day, if necessary. However, I am in a home where they work different shifts, so I am not crated much. I wouldn't be good in a home where you crate me all day long. I am not used to that. I can be left home and will not chew up the house. Just don't leave paper around or garbage cans that I can get into because I do like to chew stuff like that. My owners are having a hard time giving me up because my original owner was their son and died at age 21, and they have raised me since then. He also has severe separation anxiety whenever I leave the house, even for short periods. He will emit high pitched barks, jump at the door, and urinate and poop near the door. Silas was found by a concerned citizen after being placed in his kennel on the side of the freeway in the Woodville, Wisconsin area - his kennel was found in a ravine. When the woman came upon him he was out of his kennel running into traffic so she did the only thing she could think of and grabbed him and called us here at GGOH. His ear was torn and bleeding, presumably from breaking out of his kennel. His kennel had been broken on one side and had been taped together with electrical tape making it possible to break open with little force, which Silas had done to escape it's contents. Can you imagine; this is how someone left their family pet. Breaks our heart! Silas is a great black lab with a big heart. He wants nothing but to be loved and have some guidance from a faithful new friend. He needs a guardian who will be committed to continuing with his training; someone who will stand firm and let Silas know who is in charge. He is a good dog, but needs to know what his boundaries are. Silas is approx. 3 - 4 years old (as of Jan. 2016); up-to-date on vaccines and is neutered. He's doing well with his training and is sure to make a wonderful pet given the chance. Someone out there discarded this poor boy with their trash - such a shame. Miley was Bandit and Shaney's daughter from a previous birth so mom and daughter rely on each other heavily. Both love to go for walks and are great on their leashes. Love to snuggle and just be with you. They will need some time to adjust to a new environment but will do great with an individual or a family, with older children, who will give them love and patience. They are ok with cats but do have some issues with other dogs as they are afraid of them sometimes due to their beginnings, running among the packs. We know they are special souls who just need understanding and a peaceful place to call 'home'. Red Heeler mixes; approx. 6 1/2 and 5 1/2 yrs old (as of December 2014). Dogs can make good pets in Wisconsin if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year. Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized.
