Rescue Me ID: 16-05-10-00081Liana (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello future forever family!!! My name is Liana. I am a new refugee to Canada. I traveled all the way from a high kill shelter in Minsk Russia. I was really lucky to make it out of there alive. You see I am a unique black beauty. I am approximately between 4 and 5 years old. In Russia where I am from, black dogs often do not live long lives. Many people there are superstitious. My new foster mom has told me not to worry about that anymore. She says my beautiful tuxedo coat is ready for all occasions and that Canadians love diversity, its what makes us strong. I like living in my foster home. I live with two boys, that are ... (Read More)sometimes loud, but I don't mind. I have two foster sisters. One is a doodle and the other is a chihuahua. At first I didn't like the chihuahua, she always wanted to help clean my ears. I told her in my own way, that I didn't like it and now we are best of friends. My foster mom tells me daily how proud she is of me. She says I am a trained professional indoors and in the back yard. I am a quiet lady after all. I do not beg for food, I use the washroom outside, I know better than to get into the garbage or destroy things, I can be left alone and will wait happily for your return. In the backyard, I like to look at the birds and watch for little animal critters. Oh, how I love to watch those little animals scurrying about. I get so excited, I just want to chase them so badly. I have left the backyard a couple of times to do so. My foster mom said that scared her, so she dog proofed the backyard and now, I can watch the animals again. Where I live there are many neighbourhood dogs. Sometimes there are some who don't like me. They come to the fence and growl or bark at me. I don't mind that, I have been bullied before. I know that ladies sit quietly and ignore those kind of dogs. I love to walk and love when we go hiking. My foster mom is helping me work on my leash skills. She likes to use a gentle leader with me. She says I am a strong little big dog. Honestly, I like to pull you when I am walking on leash. I get so excited to see new things and I really want to chase those little critters and I will use my voice to tell them so. My foster mom will loop two leashes together, attach them to my harness, and wrap them around her waist, when we are on hikes. This way her hands are free and I can help her get up hills faster. I am 64lbs and approximately 40 cm tall. I think I am part Lab and part Corgi. I am very healthy and up to date with all my vaccines. Although I like it very much here, I am in search of my forever family. Could this be you? (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-04-18-00238Kent (male)

Chesapeake Bay Retriever Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Kent from Belarus! He likes to cuddle, is curious and animated. Kent is easy to fall in love with ,as he is such a sweet dog. Kent believes he is a lap dog; thus he loves to cuddle. He will make sounds of appreciation when being petted. It's clear to see Kent has had a rough past. He has some scars on his face and body. Kent was one of the lucky dogs who was rescued from a kill shelter in Minks, Belarus. He is house trained and actively attentive to his alpha. Although he is Russian, he responds well to English. He responds well to 'kissing sounds' and thus this helps to get his attention in a positive way. On several occasions, ... (Read More)when given a treat, the family dogs in the foster home would sit prior. Kent learned quickly that two snaps of the fingers meant for him to sit. Kent responds well to being bathed. Kent is working on reducing his pray drive. His pray drive is very strong. With use of a gentle leader or harness he responds well to correction. At his foster parent's home, Kent demonstrated his love for long walks and going hiking. He learned quickly to jump into the car, as he was resistant at first. He also learned quickly to adjust to the car turning and where he should sit. He travels well in a motor vehicle. He is crate trained, but prefers to be with his humans. He is a very playful dog. He loves to play with his humans and the other dogs in the family. He has all his core vaccinations, is neutered and is microchipped. Kent would make a wonderful forever friend to whomever adopts him. (Less)

Pug Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant

He is a huge cuddler and just so full of JRT spunk!! Loves to play and be outside .... When outside it is recommended (and I stress this) that Henry is harnessed and leashed at all times outside of a fenced yard as his flight mode is high. Henry cannot be off leash at all. He loves to snuggle on the big bed but here Henry sleeps in his own bedroom/crate. He happily retires there for the night. Henry should be an only dog and would be great for an active retired couple. He is a big boy...35 lbs.+-. Located in ON, Canada. PENDING ADOPTION!

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Canada
Dogs can make good pets in Canada if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia Canada Fact Sheet
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.)
