Border Collie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Vaccinations Current

Hi, I have a Shiloh Sheppard/Collie cross dog. He is very affectionate, loving and full of energy. He knows basic commands:sit/stay/come/drop it and lay down. He obeys them most of the time unless he is distracted by another dog or person. So he still will need some consistent training to enforce them. Shiloh loves people, children, dogs and is very friendly and has been socialized with them since I had him. He wakes me up every morning by putting his two paws on me and giving me a kiss. Shiloh loves attention from his humans and cuddles. He can be a little afraid....if another dog is aggressive or fearful too. He loves runs and walks ... (Read More)and will need a home where he will get a lot of exercise. Besides his dry and wet food, he likes apples, carrots and cherries. I rescued him in November 2013, he was found in a ditch-stabbed through his thigh and would have froze to death. It was evident that he had never been in a house. Through patient training with me and great assistance from my Golden retriever THOR, he has come a long way from being a skinny scared puppy. He is house trained and can be left in the house with out destroying anything. Although, I have only left him a few times in the house without my other dog. He has been left alone with Thor for 8 hrs without any destruction. I do have stuffed animals for him and bones which he does chew when I leave the house. He does not like it when people are on a swing or using the vacuum. Also my sub pump freaks him out. I am looking to find Shiloh a home with another dog preferably. He is very attached to my dog Thor, or alternatively, with someone who will be affectionate to him as he requires interaction with a human or other dogs. I also have a cat that he is good with, but at times he tries to play with my cat, who wants nothing to do with that. Shiloh will need a home where he is exercised daily. I run at least 1 hr/day and Shiloh could keep going. He would do well on a farm, however I don't want him to be the sole farm dog, left outside 24/7, in a barn without human interaction. The reason I am looking to re home Shiloh, is so that I can help other dogs in need. He is ready to go to his forever home. When he was rescued from the ditch he was taken into the Humane's Society where they fixed his injury and gave him his shots for the year, neutered him and had him micro chipped. I have all the documents from the Humane's society which I will provide the new owners, along with his pet bed, toys, food and I also have an insulated dog house. I would also ask that I come to Shiloh's new home to view the property in order to insure he will be living in a dog friendly home. Shiloh will not do well as a chained dog. He will need a yard where he can run around or a farm. Please contact me if you are interested in Shiloh Sheppy. P.S. he has completely healed from his injury. No issues. (Less)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Georgia is looking for an experienced home that can stick with her through the good and bad. She is approx 65lbs with a long sleek body and long legs - her mix is a best guess! Border Collie? Lab? Shepherd? Terrier?? She was recently adopted out to a family and then started to exhibit re-activity to other dogs which is new to her. She has lived in past foster homes with other dogs and has coexisted peacefully. Georgia is 2 1/2 years old physically, but was stunted mentally by a previous owner when they stopped all interactions with other dogs around the age of 7-8 months old. She is now a 2 1/2 year old dog with the brain of an immature ... (Read More)puppy - which is extremely frustrating for poor Georgia. This is where her re-activity originates, she does not understand social cues and this causes her to become frustrated and lash out. We just recently had Georgia reassessed by our trainer and she believes that Georgia can be rehabbed fairly easily, she just needs someone who has experience that can give her positive experiences. The more positive experiences she has, the less negative (reactive) ones she will have. Within an hour training session, we had Georgia walking 4 feet away from another calm dog and she was not paying him any attention. So we know she can do it, she just needs someone to help her get there. So, we are looking for an amazing home for Georgia that has dog experience, preferably with re-activity who can help her get over this phase of her life. That amazing home should also be the athletic kind as Georgia is an athletic girl, she loves running and walking and biking and hiking - you name it and she's up for it! Georgia has proven she can live with dog savvy cats but we prefer a home without children (and other dogs for right now). With some one on one work we know Georgia can be an amazing dog! She is so loving and cuddly and wants to be with you all the time. Georgia is reliably housetrained, and is crate trained but is not destructive and fine being left out alone. She also knows all her basic commands and is a smart cookie but can be stubborn. Georgia will need some help with recall and loose leash walking. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-07-23-00464Harley (male)

Weimaraner    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Harley Jo is a 5-year-old blue, male Weim that is full of beans and would like to play fetch for hours at a time if you are up to it! You could say that he is a little obsessed. He also loves water so his foster family tries to take him to the beach every weekend for at least a few hours of fun. Harley came from a home that did not have enough time to give him the daily play and exercise he needs. In addition, one of the daughters had left for college, which was causing Harley extreme stress and anxiety. Harley has been in his foster home for 4 months and he has made significant improvements. He is thriving on grain-free food and fresh ... (Read More)vegetables and has managed to build a lot of healthy muscle mass due to 1.5 hours of exercise every day. He loves to go to the leash-free dog park after dinner. He is a great runner, fetcher and plays very well with other dogs of all sizes. Harley wears a harness attached to a waist leash, which makes walking him quite easy. This is important to know as Harley is a large, tall Weimaraner and very strong. His foster family calls him Jerry Lewis at the park because he looks so goofy running and playing. He has excellent recall. While he still has separation anxiety, noted improvement is being made every week as his foster family works with him. When left alone, he will bark and cry for 10-15 minutes, but then stops. He has acute hearing and when he hears his foster families' car, he starts barking again. Because of that it would be best if Harley could live in a single home and not a duplex, apartment or condo. He should not be created as it makes his anxiety worse. He free roams in his foster home without incident. Harley currently lives with a female Weim and tends to get jealous when he is not the focus of attention or affection. His foster family knows that he would be fine with another dog in the house, but believes he might be better as the only dog, provided he is not left along for more than 6-8 hours. He is wonderful with children and is extremely patient with them. He even sits for them while they throw a ball or frisbee. Harley loves to sleep in the bed, but will also sleep on a dog bed in the bedroom. Because of Harley's size and being prone to anxiety, only homes with previous Weim experience will be considered. Harley is a lovable, sensitive animal who truly acts like a 2-year-old dog. If you have the time and energy to keep him busy and active, you will have many, wonderful years with this beautiful dog. Rescue Me ID: 14-06-29-00049Hanna (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

'Hanna' is a sweet, loyal, outgoing 10-yo spayed female GSD in San Diego who is in desperate need of a new home. Her family is being forced to rehome her by July 1 because their landlord-who knew that they had a GSD-recently found out that his home insurance policy does not cover German Shepherds. So, he's told Hanna's family 'the dog has to go' by July 1! Hanna is super-friendly with adults and kids of all ages; her former owner had a 3-yo son that she was great with. She is fine w/ other dogs when off-leash, and good w/ little dogs (she currently lives w/ a Chihuahua). She is reactive towards other dogs when on leash, which is quite ... (Read More)common w/ GSDs. Hanna does not do well with cats. Hanna is very much a house-dog. She will get very anxious if left outside when her people are home. Her people also leave her inside when they are gone, and Hanna does just fine. Hanna is in good health for a 10-yo GSD. She does have some mild arthritis in her hips, which is to be expected w/ a GSD Hanna's age, and does not limit her activity. You can see in her video below how active she is-she outruns everyone! Hanna does get frightened over certain sounds, notably fireworks, the completion signal from a microwave oven, and the low battery 'chirp' of a fire alarm. Ambulance/fire truck sirens do not bother her. She calms down quickly when she is hugged or when a leash is put on her. Hanna's family adopted her last year from a young military man and his family because he was being deployed overseas. Hanna is being adopted through German Shepherd's adoption program while her owners continue to care for her. Hanna is located in San Diego. Her adoption fee is $100. **Hanna is not housed at our shelter. For more information, please contact Brian Foran, 916-655-3125 or bab43@msn.com.     This sweet senior is 9 year old HOLLIE IS SO DESERVING OF A FOREVER HOME! who has a very sad story to tell before coming into Safehome Animal Rescue's care. She was brought into the care of Safehome from a shelter in Georgia where she was picked up as a stray. Staff there believe she may have been used as bait in a dog fighting ring when she was younger dog. On top of this, she tested positive for heart worm and had started developing fatty masses due to her age. As is always the case, we at Safehome were not deterred by her condition and brought her into our care. She has undergone the very difficult HW disease and we are thrilled to say ... (Read More)she is now heart worm free! In addition, she has been spayed, vaccinated, chipped and dewormed. She recently underwent surgery to remove 2 small tumors that thankfully, were all benign. Hollie is a lovely girl with a sweet and gentle disposition and she is ready to find a place to call her forever home where she will finally know the safety, comfort and love she so deserves. The ideal home would not have small dogs or cats. Hollie is wonderful with children, but is a strong girl weighing in at about 85 lbs. She is a calm dog that enjoys short walks and lots of affection...please email us for further info on HOLLIE (Less)

These 2 boys are 10 years old and have been together since the beginning. They are being re-homed as their owner unexpectedly passed away. Both are very loving and good with kids. They will howl and talk to you, but are very quiet when not interacting with you. They are housebroken, crate trained and used to being left alone for long periods of time. They don't appear to have any health issues. They are up to date on vaccines.

I am trying to help my son and his wife find a home for their Pomeranian. Liddie is a 7 year old Pom who is incredibly sweet and loving. She's perfect with all dogs, kids and people in general. The problem is that she was just diagnosed with diabetes and the kids can't care for her - both physically and financially. They are young with a 22 month old toddler. I would take Liddie in a heartbeat but I work full-time and we don't have a fenced in yard for her. She needs access to the outdoors at all times because the diabetes causes her to urinate every 10 minutes or so. But...I don't want her to go to a home where they leave her outside all ... (Read More)of the time. She needs some TLC at this juncture in her life. I really don't want to surrender her to a shelter where she'll sit in a kennel all day. My heart is heavy enough! I am looking for someone to foster or adopt her ASAP. I am willing to transport her and pay for the first $150 of insulin. Thank you for your consideration. (Less)

Lily is a 5 year old, unsprayed female Bernese Mountain dog. We as a family got Lily from Quebec as an 8 wk. old puppy eager to give her a great life. We at the time had a 2 year old rescued BMD, and a 6 month old beagle. She was welcomed with open arms and seemed to fit right in with all our animals and our 2 daughters who at the time were 3 and 6 mths. old. As the years went on, Lily only got greater. She was a pleasure to have around and was never any trouble. 2 years ago, we lost our oldest BMD to a sudden autoimmune disease. Shortly after this, Lily became very different. She cried all the time and was always fearful of what ... (Read More)appeared to be everything. At first we thought she just needed to find her place with the beagle, but day after day she just got worse. She has become very anxious and fearful, and hides in our closet at all times. She has started to go in the basement to hide but also to go pee( so she doesn't have to go outside). She has started to hurt herself( trying to jump over gates, breaking through fences, etc.) We are lost, and have no idea how to help her anymore. Please, if there is someone who has experienced this and would be willing to try helping her, or someone who just has the time and energy we would love to hear from you. This is NOT an easy decision, she will require ALOT of patience and time. (Less)

Dachshund    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Meet Cricket; she is a tiny little dog with a big personality. Despite her small size, Cricket is a going concern and would go go go all day if you let her. She loves going on hikes, splashing at the beach, playing fetch, chasing her friends, and working out treat puzzles. Cricket is a high energy dog who needs several hours of exercise each day. When it's time to relax Cricket is a great cuddler. She is a bit of a princess who would prefer to sleep on the couch with you, or snuggle in your computer chair if you let her. She's great at riding in the car (she has her own seat belt) and enjoys going on outings whenever she can. Prior to her ... (Read More)time with us, Cricket was not socialized with other dogs and many new experiences frightened her. We have been working hard to expose her to different animals, people & environments, and although she's learning quickly about many new things, some things still create challenges for her; Cricket's largest challenge is in meeting new dogs. She is uncomfortable with most new dogs at this time, however, once she makes a new doggy friend, she really enjoys playing. Our goal for Cricket will be to place her in a home with another dog who she gets along with and can learn from. This may take several meetings with the right match to succeed. Cricket is comfortable around older children (teenagers), but she tends to get over-stimulated by the excited play behaviour of younger kids. Therefore, it would be best if Cricket were in a home without young children. Cricket has a very strong prey-drive so should not be in a home with cats or small animals such as bunnies, hamsters, ferrets, etc. Cricket is more comfortable with women than she is with men. Cricket is listed as a special-needs dog because she has some neurological deficits. She can run & play just like any other dog, but she has an odd gait & skips as she walks. Cricket has been to see orthopedic & neurological specialists and although we don't have a firm diagnosis for Cricket's gait, it is strongly suspected that her cerebellum (the part of the brain responsible for coordination) did not develop fully. Cricket is not in any pain & she does not require any medical care or medications at this time. She has a hard time with stairs & it is suspected that she may see things slightly differently than your average dog, which may explain some of her nervous reactions to new stimuli. Cricket's new home will need to be prepared to continue to work with her & her trainer regularly. This will be a long-term commitment for her new home and is a requirement for adoption. If you would like to learn more about Cricket, please email us at victoriapets@gmail.com. She is currently in foster care but her foster mom would be happy to talk to you about her. (Less)

Duke is a typical Weimaraner. He needs an owner that understands that he is high-strung. I adopted him from his first owners at 7 and unfortunately life changes have us in this situation. I have all medical records from previous owner. He has fear aggression with other large dogs, but has come a long way and is now able to make long-term friends- but he needs lots of supervision/support to get to that point (the dog trainer said Duke gets mommy-itis something fiece!). Surprisingly his favourite dogs are a lab and a chihuahua. Indoors he loves to cuddle and is super cute, outside he is a 'working'dog and needs to play. His favourite ... Rescue Me ID: 14-03-05-00486Matt **Mr. Unique** (male)

Boxer    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Matt is Mr. Unique in every way: he's our only white Boxer; he has two different colored eyes; and he is the silliest dog on the entire planet. Oh, and he's deaf. We don't mention that first because honestly, we don't think it hinders him and certainly is not a handicap. Some people say these things make it harder to find a dog like Matt a forever home, but we think these traits give him special powers! For instance, we have never seen a dog more in tune with his surroundings; Matt has razor sharp vision and extrasensory perception, which at times is so keen, he almost startles himself! When he is among our volunteers and friends, Matt is ... (Read More)understandably more secure and relaxed (which is when his clown side comes out to party). Our only requirement in an adopter would be that they understand if Matt is meeting new people, he MUST be given the ability to approach them at his own speed. Matt appreciates being allowed to watch, observe and introduce himself to new faces; this is all about Matt feeling safe and knowing he can trust you, which takes time. That said, Matt is clearly (as exhibited in the photo album) a people person who is adventurous, athletic, and a gorgeous Boxer boy. Don't take our word for it though- contact us to schedule a time to meet him for yourself!     Kanela is approx 6 yrs old ~40lbs (in photo, on right) She's very into other dogs, extremely scared of people - barks or growls at strangers out of fear (we wonder if she might have been abused by whomever had her prior to us, we rescued her from a shelter). She would need someone with a lot of patience and another dog would likely help; preferably, Naoki :) Fit and healthy but has plaque (we had the vet clean them a couple years ago but it's hard to brush her teeth) Very calm indoors and very affectionate once she trusts someone and extremely patient with our 1 1/2 year, no aggression towards children at all.

Rottweiler Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sherlock is a 5 year old black male pit bull terrier with a strong, rugged physique. He weighs 74 pounds and is a little underweight due to his sad backstory. Hollywoof founder actually discovered Sherlock near downtown L.A., wearing a heavy leather harness, chained and padlocked to a fence. After speaking with the owner of the home near the fencing, it was determined that Sherlock had been abandoned and left to die. After feeding Sherlock several bowls of food, his gentle giant demeanor allowed us to unbuckle the many clasps on his harness and free him. After a month at the shelter, with no owner ever showing up to redeem him, Hollywoof ... (Read More)rescued him. Despite whatever neglect he may have endured, Sherlock is a remarkably sweet soul who just needs someone to show him that life can be good. He loves small dogs, even the yappy ones- in fact, he has been temperament tested and found to be what we believe is dog friendly! He is the kind of dog who will gain confidence from being around other dogs, and with humans Sherlock is just as affectionate once he can slowly sniff you and look you in the eye- he is an excellent judge of character, and we just want to see him showered with the love he so deserves. For more information on how you can adopt or foster Sherlock, please contact me! (Less)

Animal ID: 12-05Norman (male)

Boxer Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Norman is a very handsome Boxer X who is looking for just the right home. He is a real cuddler when he's tired out, but an extremely active boy most of the time. He loves people and other dogs & needs a home with someone who can provide the right balance of activity, guidance & serenity. Norman's previous experiences have left him with some anxieties & challenges to work through, but once he's comfortable in the right home he will make a wonderful companion. He loves to give hugs, sleep on the bed, and sprawl on the couch. Despite his energy, he's a real homebody and loves to spend time with his people. Norman is a very active dog and ... (Read More)needs a home with someone who has the energy to drain his. A runner or someone who spends a lot of time outdoors & likes to go for long hikes would be a great partner for Norman. Although Norman is an active dog, he has some anxieties and needs a home that is calm/serene to help him learn how to relax. Proper experience & consistent guidance will be needed to help him settle in & learn confidence. Since Norman enjoys the company of other dogs he will do best in a home with a calm/balanced dog to be his role model. No cats please. Due to Norman's separation anxiety he is uncomfortable being left alone. Someone who works from home, or who can take Norman to work during the day, will help him get off on the right foot. Although Norman is good with children, it will benefit him to be in a home without very young children that may increase his excitement level. Norman hadn't had much in the way of obedience training when he first came to us, but he recently graduated from Communicanine's Adult Manners Class. He will sit & lie down on command, and he's working on 'come.' We would like to see Norman's forever family continue with his training, so signing him up for class with a behaviourist will be a requirement for his adoption. Boxer's tend to have heart problems as they age, but at this time the vet says that Norman's heart sounds great. Although Norman is primarily white he is not deaf. He does have food allergies so is on a hypoallergenic diet. For more info on Norman, please email us at victoriapets@gmail.com. He has been assessed for adoption by Transform Animal Behaviour; his assessment will be made available upon request. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Canada
Dogs can make good pets in Canada if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
