Yorkie    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Daisy! Daisy is a pure bred Yorkshire Terrier, born Feb 13th 2011. She is spayed and weighs 7lbs. She has been followed by same vet from beginning and is up to date on all vaccines. Very affectionate and loving, loves to play fetch. She's hyper allergenic. Daisy is good with kids and has lived with two of them. She loves playing with other dogs but has never been around cats. In true terrier fashion, she is somewhat of a barker when she hears noises outside and when the doorbell rings. She is a sweet little girl with zero aggression however. She has lived with a very loving family since she was a puppy. With a third child on the ... (Read More)way, they feel that they will be unable to provide Daisy with the love and play time that she deserves. This was an extremely difficult decision for them but they know finding another family is the best thing for Daisy in the end. If you are interested in meeting and potentially adopting Daisy, please email us at IHeartMy@BellAnima.org _________________________________ Voici Daisy! Rescue Me ID: 13-05-10-00294Beatrice (female)

Beagle    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Cancer, Obese, Fearful/Anxious

Beatrice is the sweetest dog I have ever met. She is a purebred, beautiful 6 year old beagle. She is good with people, other dogs and cats. She is always trying to please her owners. She loves to cuddle, nap, and also enjoys long walks where she can sniff and sniff and it makes her so happy. She also loves treats, although we have never fed her table scraps. She gets a little separation anxiety when I have to leave her for daily tasks. The video linked to youtube is a video of her when she was younger. I acquired Beatrice from an ex-fiancee while living in the United States. My living situation has since changed drastically. I have ... (Read More)immigrated to Canada from the U.S. because I married a Canadian. We have looked and looked, but are unable to find housing where she may live with us. My husband and I may get kicked out of where we live at any time, so the situation has taken a turn for the worse. On top of this, we recently found out that Beatrice has thyroid cancer, that has probably been affecting her metabolism. If you can find it in your heart to take Beatrice into your home, we would really appreciate it. I would hate to see Beatrice go, but at the same time, I am unable to care for her financially and stability at this time. I want what's best for Beatrice, and right now, if you think you are a good fit, please give it a shot and help us out. Please contact me at 1-647-523-5861 and leave Autumn a message. She can also be relocated in the United States- Michigan area. Thanks so much, Autumn (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 13-05-07-00445Liberty (female)

Dachshund    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats

Hi! My name is Liberty. My foster-mom named me that because I was rescued from a mill in the USA, and now I'm free! I'm a 5 year old, 10 pound black and tan spayed female. I gotta tell you, life sure is a lot different outside of a puppy mill. I'm learning all kinds of new things, like what cuddles are, and how great a soft blanket can feel, and even how much fun toys can be. My foster-mom is even trying to teach me about this thing called housebreaking, and even though I've learned to do my business when she takes me outside, I haven't learned yet that I'm supposed to tell her when I have to go. But she says we're working on that, and that ... (Read More)it's ok, it will just take time and patience. I absolutely love my crate - it's my safe place, and I curl up in there at every opportunity. And I LOVE to sleep. My foster mom says I sleep too much, and tries to encourage me to come out and play more, but learning all this new stuff just tuckers me right out. I do like to go for walks with my foster siblings, and I'm doing really well on a leash. I get along really great with these things called cats, and even the other dogs in my foster home, although sometimes I guard my toys and my crate. I'm not aggressive at all - I just growl a little bit to let them know I'm not happy that they are close to my things. But hey, I've never had a toy of my own before, so I just want to make sure no one takes it away. I'm a pretty shy & submissive little girl, and I get scared when I meet new people, especially men. I just need a little time to warm up to you, and then I'll come say hello. I think maybe I just need some time to learn more about love and trust, and I'll come out of my shell. Are you the family to help me do that? (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 13-05-07-00443Rolo (male)

Dachshund    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults

What's up! My name is Rolo and I am an approximately 3-4 year old, red, smooth, mini male. I know it's hard to tell by my picture, but I only weigh 7.5 lbs ... of pure love! I came to CDR as a stray from a USA shelter. They thought that I had suffered trauma to the head as I couldn't stand without toppling over, had a noticeable head tilt and spun in circles. Not having the resources to investigate my condition further, the shelter asked if the good folks at CDR could take me in! On the upside, there is nothing neurologically wrong with me! On the downside, I have suffered a severe inner ear infection. Antibiotics have helped clear up my ... (Read More)infection, however the infection has possibly caused permanent damage to my ear drum. This means that I have limited hearing. I will also most likely always have an adorable little head tilt, be slightly off-balance on uneven surfaces and will occasionally spin in circles. Foster mom says this just makes me all the more special. So what can I tell you about the 'real' me? Well, I am probably one of the friendliest dachshunds you will ever meet! I love men, women, children, cats, rodents, dogs - I consider just about any living creature my friend. I would LOVE an active family, even one with children (over the age of 6 please, only because I am so small) to spend my days with. I love walking, the outdoors, playing with my toys and even the car! And guess what, I am completely housetrained! My dislikes include the dreaded crate and being away from my humans. I will cry and whine if my humans are out of sight - I just love them so much. When my foster parents leave for work I get quite upset and because of my limited hearing, my barks become high pitched squeals. I settle eventually and never cause any damage to my surroundings, like any typical dachshund I am just letting you know how I feel. For this reason, I cannot live in an apartment. I am much more comfortable in the presence of other dogs and therefore would love a home with another canine pal! Foster mom always gushes about how awesome I am! So if you like what you hear, fill out that adoption application today! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 13-05-07-00440Rose (female)

Dachshund    Age: Adult

Let me introduce myself. I'm Rosie, a five year old long-haired mini with a brown and black dappled coat and bright, curious eyes. I had a hard time for the first few years of my life, because I come from yet another puppy mill. My past has made me very skittish and slow to trust people. I was scared of my shadow for the first few days with my foster family, and especially of people; I tried to run away every time they leaned down to pick me up. But my curious nature soon got the better of me and I learned to love exploring my new, temporary home, discovering the dog that looks just like me in the mirror and sniffing all the new and exciting ... (Read More)smells around me. I also discovered that I love to get my ears scratched and my belly rubbed and this has helped me get over my fear of people picking me up. I get along very well with my foster brothers and sisters, who've been teaching me all about how to be a proper dachshund: barking at doorbells, mooching for food, chewing on squeaky toys, taking long naps and chasing each other around the yard, followed by more naps. I've been spayed and have all my shots, so I'm healthy and now that I'm eating better I've gained back a lot of the weight I lost in the puppy mill and have lots of energy to play. I'm learning how to walk on the leash and my house training is going very well. Especially now that I've learned that I can get treats for going outside or on the pee pad. I'm very happy sleeping with my foster brother and sister in the crate, or in the bed with Mom and Dad. Do I sound like your perfect match? I hope you want to meet me! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 13-04-22-00470Izzy (female)

Dachshund    Age: Adult

Hi, I'm Izzy and I'm finally ready for adoption. You see, a big dog attacked me in January and broke my jaw. The vets have been really good to me and my jaw is healing nicely. Foster mom still soaks kibble in lots of water and makes it into a smooth paste so I can eat it. However, I should be able to eat kibble again but my jaw needs to heal a bit more first. I love treats (but not bananas) and I'm starting to be able to pick up small treats and kibble. The vets don't really know how old I am but they think I'm 6 to 8 years old. Foster mom thinks I've been malnourished for a long time but I'm getting stronger and gaining ... (Read More)weight. I now weigh 7 pounds but apparently I need to gain more weight. Since I am so little I am cold all the time! I have a housecoat and an outside coat to keep me warm. I love people and my tail is always wagging. I'll spend hours in foster mom's arms if she will let me. I've started to give foster mom kisses (lots of kisses) but she says they are pretty wet since my mouth still doesn't work quite right. I love to sleep (and hide) under the blankets in the big bed. But when my foster mom calls me, I start to wag my tail so she can find me. I use doggie stairs to get up on things. I stay in a crate when foster mom goes out but as soon as I hear her coming home, I start to bark. I'm house trained if you pay attention and take me outside when I start to pace. In the cold weather, I didn't want to go outside so I had a few accidents in the house but foster mom thinks I'll be better now that the weather is warmer. I also don't like the rain. I am a dachshund after all! I live with a dog and five (yes five) cats. I try to ignore all of them but sometimes one of the cats head butts me and then I'll tell her off. I love to sit in the front window and bark at people going by on the street. Foster mom wants me to stop barking but I want to warn her that someone is coming. I think I would be better if my furever home is a house, not an apartment. I bark at most dogs when I first meet them but once I realize they aren't going to hurt me, I'm okay. I stayed overnight with a black lab and after a few minutes I was okay with her. The black lab has two human children companions (5 and 7 years old) and I was okay with them too. I love to explore outside so a home with a fenced yard would be best. I like to explore so much that foster mom gets frustrated with me because I don't come when she calls me. I've even tried to hunt some of the little creatures that live in the long grass. I know basic commands and have learned from my foster canine sister how to spin or dance for a treat. I'm so looking forward to a furever home of my own. (Less)

Hi! I am a 2.5 year old chocolate dachshund mix. Foster mom says my caramel markings are beautiful. Hope you think so too! I wish I knew what my dad was but he must have had long legs - guess that is where I get them from. Please don't take it personally when I am a bit shy around men - I will come around eventually. I also don't really like kids so I don't want to go to a home with little people under the age of 12. Life has taught me to be extra cautious. I try to remember to only do my business outside but sometimes I prefer to use my indoor pad. I am a dachshund after all! This is apparently a 'work in progress'. I will do ... (Read More)almost anything for food and am excited to learn any trick that gets me an extra treat. I am happy to be the only dog or live with a pack - I can even live with those other house pets they call cats. I love love the car and I do as I am told on my leash walks. I am used to my crate and prefer to sleep in there buried under all my blankets. But don't worry, if you are looking for a wiener who loves to snuggle, I can be that girl! I hope you want to meet me soon. ~Bella (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 13-04-09-00163Will & Jack (male)

Dachshund    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered

Please meet Jack & Will. A bonded pair, Jack is an 8 year old dachshund mix weighing around 18 lbs and Jack is a 6 year old black and tan dapple weighing around 16 lbs. Both of these boys have beautiful temperaments; they get along fabulously with people and other dogs. They love walks and sniffing out mouse holes in the field. Wherever Willy wants to go, Jack follows. They would do best in a home without cats as Jack enjoys a good chase! They are couch potatoes for the most part, and love to slip under the covers when snoozing. Jack & Will are also good in their crates when necessary. Both dogs let you know when they need to go ... (Read More)outside and are completely housetrained. They are quiet boys, but Willy worries about everything. He will bring you his rawhide chew as a gift, though both dogs steal from each other and it is very amusing to watch! Jack & Will were surrendered to CDR when their familiy introduced baby number three into the household and found they just didn't have the time for them anymore. Jack & Will were very well loved, socialized and trained. They are also used to children. What a fantastic duo these boys are - will they complete your family? (Less)

Akita    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Kuma will respond to this name or the name Bear, he is very well trained, very sweet and playful, however can make strange with people unknown to him and takes a bit to warm up. He may take a little work with a change of a new home due to the fact that I've had him since he was 8 weeks old but I know he could make a great companion for someone who would be willing to take the time. He is crate trained although we don't use this often, he is fine to have in the house unattended and respects boundaries you put up. He is also fine with being in a kennel. He would not do well as an outdoor only dog, he is indoor/outdoor and loves your company so ... (Read More)if you are home, inside is where he will want to be. He is fine to be outside and would prefer this during the day. Kuma is used to having an outdoor cat around and has never been aggressive towards her, however he chases her and when he plays sometimes ends up stepping on her and hurting her. If you have a household indoor cat, he may not be suitable. Kuma enjoys playing with other dogs when they are around but hasn't had to live with another dog so I'm not sure how he would be, he is used to a lot of attention from his owner. He is better with dogs with a medium build. I love this big boy with all of my heart but will soon not be able to provide the home he deserves and is accustomed to. (Less)

The reason I am looking for a new home for Kato is that I am moving in to the city and will not have the time or adequate yard for him. I am hoping to find him a family without children, who will give him a loving home.

Our beloved dog of 9 years is no longer compatible with our family now that we have a baby and two business. Although Berkeley has always had problems with being fully house broken it has gotten much worse since the baby arrived, we are unsure if it is due to lack of attention or age but with a new baby in the house it is now a major problem for us. Berkeley is a wonderful, loving dog that would do well with an experienced and disciplined pet owner that is looking for a very affectionate pet. Berkeley is crate trained and knows several commands. He has a larger than life personality and loves to perform. I will consider homes that would be ... (Read More)an appropriate fit for his needs. (Less)

Sadie is 3 years old, and full of energy. She needs to go to a home with no other dogs, as she often starts fights with them. She is a nervous/anxious girl, hopefully that will get better when she is in a house with no other dogs. She loves to run and fetch, cuddle, and give kisses. She does not do well with young children I would say less than 8 years old. She is a very good listener and would be your shadow if you let her.

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Meet Cricket; she is a tiny little dog with a big personality. Despite her small size, Cricket is a going concern and would go go go all day if you let her. She loves going on hikes, splashing at the beach, playing fetch, chasing her friends, and working out treat puzzles. Cricket is a high energy dog who needs several hours of exercise each day. When it's time to relax Cricket is a great cuddler. She is a bit of a princess who would prefer to sleep on the couch with you, or snuggle in your computer chair if you let her. She's great at riding in the car (she has her own seat belt) and enjoys going on outings whenever she can. Prior to ... (Read More)her time with us, Cricket was not socialized with other dogs and many new experiences frightened her. We have been working hard to expose her to different animals, people & environments, and although she's learning quickly about many new things, some things still create challenges for her. Cricket's largest challenge is in meeting new dogs. She is uncomfortable with most new dogs at this time, however, once she makes a new doggy friend, she really enjoys playing. Our goal for Cricket will be to place her in a home with another dog who she gets along with and can learn from. This may take several meetings with the right match to succeed. Cricket is comfortable around older children, but she tends to get over-stimulated by the excited play behaviour of young kids. Therefore, it would be best if Cricket were in a home without young children. Cricket has a very strong prey-drive so should not be in a home with small animals such as bunnies, hamsters, ferrets, etc. Cricket is more comfortable with women than she is with men. Cricket is listed as a special-needs dog because she has some neurological deficits. She can run & play just like any other dog, but she has an odd gait & skips as she walks. Cricket has been to see orthopedic & neurological specialists and although we don't have a firm diagnosis for Cricket's gait, it is strongly suspected that her cerebellum (the part of the brain responsible for coordination) did not develop fully. Cricket is not in any pain & she does not require any medical care or medications at this time. She has a hard time with stairs & it is suspected that she may see things slightly differently than your average dog, which may explain some of her nervous reactions to new stimuli. Cricket has pet health insurance and it is strongly recommended that her new family continues with her coverage. Cricket's new home will need to be prepared to continue to work with her & her trainer regularly. This will be a long-term commitment for her new home and is a requirement for adoption. If you would like to learn more about Cricket, please email us at victoriapets@gmail.com. She is currently in foster care but her foster mom would be happy to talk to you about her. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Canada
Dogs can make good pets in Canada if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
