Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Does anybody remember that little guy from the planet Melman named ALF who had his own TV sit-com? He's back. His name is Nathan. Nathan, they truly broke the mold when they made you. Nathan is the most mischievous, adorable, hilarious and Mr. Smarty Pants dog all rolled into one. Nathan should have had his own sitcom. Canned laughter would be completely unnecessary, as he would have had the audience rolling in the aisles unassisted. Nathan has never met a stranger, be it a person or dog. Nathan reminds us every day to live life unabashedly and that there is happiness and joy to be found everywhere. Nathan hopes to join a family with a ... (Read More)large dog buddy who loves to play as much as he does. A family that loves spending time with him and taking him on hikes and other fun things. Nathan is active and curious and hopes for a patient family that nurtures his adorable personality characteristics. Nathan loves his nice comfy leather chair. It's always a race to the chair with his foster dad. Nathan currently lives in Houston, Texas and is on the network for Vancouver, BC because we have several amazing volunteers who live here that help coordinate successful out-of-state adoptions. Corridor Rescue has the very fortunate ability to transport dogs to other states via the United Airlines PetSafe program. We have worked out a very cost-effective way to transport these lucky dogs to their new homes. The transport cost is $225, which includes the airline flight, a new pet travel kennel that you can keep upon arrival and the required health documents from the veterinarian. The adoption fee is $150 for all of our dogs. The grand total for adopting this pet including adoption fee and airline/transportation fee is $375. American Bulldog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We would like to introduce to you our very handsome guy, Beaux. We know you will surely be smitten by him once you see his pictures and then after you meet him, there will be no question that you will want to take this guy home to join your family. His smoky blue-grey coat, his stunning eyes, and the pink spot on his nose are going to catch everyone's attention! He's just so handsome and has a solid build. Beaux is your typical happy-go- lucky kind of dog and has a well-rounded personality. He is full grown at about 50 pounds and an estimated 2 years old, but he definitely still has great energy to play and have a great time with his dog ... (Read More)and human friends. He often romps around with the other dogs like a puppy, but without the clumsiness and chewing! Beaux gets along very well with other dogs and prefers dogs that are his size or larger because he likes to play hard and sometimes he forgets that he is a big dude. He is one of those dogs that is happy and really enjoys life. It makes our days better having Beaux around to uplift our spirits. He lives with a cat, but is not too fond of sharing his space with a feline companion, so a cat-free family would be ideal for this big fella. He is exceptionally well-behaved with people of all sizes and ages and he adores the children in his life. He would love a family that plays together out in the yard and would allow him to be right in the middle of all of the action. He longs for an active family, but also one that will let him snuggle with them and give him the love that he deserves. He is more than willing to share his big heart with you. We cannot say enough great things about Beaux and we know that his family is out there and will see his photos and just KNOW he is the ONE. Beaux is crate-trained, housebroken, and knows his basics such as sit, settle, and go to the crate. He does well on the leash and loves to ride in the car, even if it's just a ride to the park. If you are looking for a stunning, happy, well rounded pup, then Beaux is the dog for you! Beaux currently lives in Houston, Texas and is on the network for Vancouver, BC because we have several amazing volunteers who live here that help coordinate successful out-of-state adoptions. Rescue Me ID: 14-09-01-00030Abe (male)

Plott Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Okay, so you think my ears are silly? Just wait until you get close and can see my underbite!! Well, that is just my personality; I'm a playful, silly clown so I'm glad I've got these ears and chompers. My dark brindle coat is worth noting too...I'm soft and my coloring is pretty unique. My mom was a stray in the Corridor of Cruelty in Houston, Texas, and she was rescued and 5 days later she had me and my 4 siblings. I was a lucky pup that I never really had to live out there as a stray, but I wasn't born into a loving family, except for my mom and these nice rescue people. One of the many cool things about me is that I'm a rescue, but ... (Read More)you'll actually know my real birthday. It's July 7th, 2011! Will you throw me a birthday party next year? Anyway, so here's my story. I was the biggest boy in my litter and super cute (that seems to have stuck), so naturally I was adopted immediately into a family and stayed with them for nearly 2.5 years, but they realized that I deserved better because their schedules were way too hectic and they didn't have the time to give me all the attention I wanted. I was returned in July 2014 as a big boy, but really hurting for some attention and discipline. I'm currently living with the dog trainer at her facility and I'm happy again. She's introduced me to lots of friends that I can play with, chase and enjoy. I'm learning a lot here too, but I still really want to be back in a family. Abe LOVES play time and leash time with his people and the dogs, but he's also affectionate. He's an active guy and is obviously looking for a dedicated family that will take him on their adventures and allow for some cuddles too. He's completely healthy and has never had any health issues. He's neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, adorable, silly and fun. He's great with all people, kids and pets, so he's just a shoo-in to be your next pup. We hope to get it right this time for Abe, so he can know true love. Abe currently lives in Houston, Texas and is on the network for Vancouver, BC because we have several amazing volunteers who live here that help coordinate successful out-of-state adoptions. Rescue Me ID: 14-09-01-00012Sandy (female)

Black Mouth Cur Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I know I might look like an average dog because I am average height, average color, average energy level...BUT I can assure you that there's nothing average about me. I'm smart, active, beautiful, friendly, loving, I get along with everyone and I'm the perfect size to take anywhere in the car! PLUS...I have amazing natural eyeliner and a grin too. Look at my cute little face. If I haven't convinced you to adopt me yet, please read more about me. My name is Sandy and I was found in the Corridor of Cruelty, which again proves I'm not average...because I'm a survivor of that place. I was hungry, tired, neglected and I am here to tell you ... (Read More)that none of that matters anymore because I am living my life to the fullest. I am the perfect size to take on all of your adventures, even if that is just a Saturday at the hardware store and then out for frozen yogurt (I'll only eat a little bit, I promise!). I really enjoy going on walks and I do well on my leash and am very eager to keep moving. I would love to be your exercise partner and motivator. I can run, run along the side of your bicycle, walk, play ball or anything you'd like to do. I also like to take breaks from all of your activities to just sit with you and enjoy life, which I didn't get to do in my past. I get along with everyone I meet, even the new dogs I see at Petsmart every week and children. I just walk up and sniff and then we are all ready to play. I've played with lots of dogs at the boarding facility that I live at, but I'd really like to go to a dog park. Would you take me there? My personality shines through and again is not average. I'm fun, affectionate, loyal and really just want to end my transition period with my rescuers and start my new life with a great family. Are you ready to get away from average and shoot for spectacular? If so, I'm your girl!!! Rescue Me ID: 14-08-30-00424Willis (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Many dogs will come up to a new person to sniff them as a greeting...not Willis!! This guy will roll over and lay in your lap to get to know you better. He is the definition of affectionate and happy. He has never met a stranger and everyone that meets him says he's just the best. Willis is about 1.5 years old, 45 pounds and has great medium level energy. Willis was rescued while surviving the streets of the Corridor of Cruelty with his two brothers Nemo and Arnold. They were fortunately all rescued together and are now living in a boarding/training facility to help prepare them for their new families. Willis is the clown of the group ... (Read More)and his brothers are both very reserved. He's so very loving and social that it is almost unbelievable that he spent even a day in that awful place. It certainly didn't affect his outlook on life one bit. Sadly without monthly preventatives, he was heartworm positive upon rescue. He has been treated and will be given a clean bill of health this month. WooHoo!! He enjoys spending every moment with his new human friends. It doesn't matter what activity you are involved in, he will be by your side running, fetching, swimming, sleeping or even sharing some of your unwanted vegetables. We could have named him Shadow and it would have been quite fitting. This young man really does have it all and we are so excited to announce that he is available for adoption because he is going to bring so much joy to a family. Willis is great with other dogs, big or small, and would love to have at least one to play with in his new family, but more would be great. He is a dream with kids and adults. One cannot be perfect in every single category, so he only tolerates cats, but would probably be better without one as his immediate sibling. This guy is the life of the party and has proven to be just a well- rounded, fun, silly and amazing friend. He would be a great addition to any family dynamic, but would be best in an active family with kids that will allow him to tag along for all of their family events. Willis is currently crate-trained, leash-trained, housebroken and is currently working on learning basic commands such as sit, stay and settle. You might want to hurry because this guy WON'T last long with us. Willis currently lives in Houston, Texas and is on the network for Vancouver, BC because we have amazing volunteers who live here that help coordinate successful out-of-state adoptions. Rescue Me ID: 14-08-30-00363Elfie (female)

Whippet Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

They call me Elfie because I am a little lady of 26 pounds. I'm super sweet and loving with everyone that I meet. I'm about 3-4 years old and the vet thinks I might be a whippet/shepherd mix. I like to walk and play, but also cuddle and nap, so my energy level is about medium. I've learned so much from the volunteers that come out to play with me every day. They taught me how to sit and wait for my treats. I love treats, so that was easy to learn. I have a feeling that I can learn any trick you want to teach me if snacks are my reward. I really love all of the affection I'm getting now that I am safe and cared for. It was pretty easy ... (Read More)to start to trust these great people and I show my appreciation by cuddling with them. I would like to live with someone that likes to cuddle because it is one of my favorite things. I am also very happy that they helped me to get treated for the awful heartworms that I had gotten as a stray. I have seen the vet several times and I am free and clear of those pesky parasites. I am healthy and feeling very good. I really enjoy my time with all people and I even have a friend that is 7 years old. She walks me on my leash and plays with me at the park. She is a fun person to be with, so I would be happy to have kids in my life...but they are not required. I promise I will be happy in any family because I'm really easygoing. I was recently introduced to a real couch and I think I want one of those to lay on every night because it was very comfy. I think at my size, I will fit nicely right next to you. We can watch whatever you want, I will enjoy every minute of it for the rest of my life. I am already housetrained and crate-trained, so now I just need to know where my back yard and my crate will be in your house. I am a happy little Elfie and I am just missing one thing in my life...YOU! Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Arnold! This striking pup is just now learning all the wonderful things that come with living indoors and leaving behind life on the streets! Arnold was found wandering the roads of the Corridor with his brothers, Willis and Nemo, when our volunteers rescued this handsome trio. He has such a unique coat and people comment on this constantly. Arnold is about 1.5 years old, 40 pounds and has a medium energy level. He is currently boarding with our friends out at K&M Canines where he is learning how to socialize with people, other dogs, kitties and horses! It is clear that he was not loved upon and socialized properly to this world ... (Read More)because he is quite shy. We know that he warms up to people, but it just takes him a little while to trust and understand that people can be good. He has already made great progress. So far, Arnold has learned that he LOVES tasty treats and he will do just about anything for one. He loves being in the company of other dogs and will need to have a doggy sibling in his new family because he is more of a follower and enjoys a confident companion. His new buddy will be able to help him adjust to his new environment once he is part of a new family. Arnold LOVES to play and he will leap across the yard after a toy. He really enjoys playing with the bouncy balls and he will dance around with one after he has caught it. He is a friendly boy despite his personality being hesitant to meeting new people. We always introduce him to newbies slowly along with his favorite treats and that does the trick every time. Arnold is already crate-trained and housebroken, but he is still learning the ropes of being an indoor dog, so we are working on training him to know which items are toys and which are not. He is still learning his sit, stay, settle commands but with the help of a patient new owner and treats for motivation, it won't be long before Arnold is the perfect gentleman. This fella is already neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and just recently finished up treatment for heartworms. Other than being a shy guy, he is more than ready to get into his home, get comfortable and bring on the love. Arnold currently lives in Houston, Texas and is on the network for Vancouver, BC because we have amazing volunteers who live here that help coordinate successful out-of-area adoptions. Corridor Rescue has the very fortunate ability to transport dogs to other areas via the United Airlines PetSafe program. The transport cost is $225, which includes the airline flight, a new pet travel kennel that you can keep upon arrival and the required health documents from the veterinarian, plus the adoption fee of $150 for all of our dogs, makes the grand total for adopting this pet US$375. Rescue Me ID: 14-08-25-00028Skippy Girl (female)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

They call me Skippy Girl! I have been in a foster home my entire life and I am nearly 5 years old. I'm not working the pity vote here, but I really want someone to love me forever. My friends at the dog park always talk about how awesome their families are. I love my foster mom, but I really want my very own people. The first thing to know is that I am an affectionate girl that needs an owner that likes to stay busy. I have long legs and I like to keep them moving. I'd be an excellent running partner or really your take-along dog on all of your adventures. I like to lounge too, but after a bit of exercise and with a yummy chew toy. I am a ... (Read More)bigger girl, weighing in at nearly 65 pounds, but I have manners, so I am not 65 pounds of bull-in-a-china cabinet. I am also 65 pounds of beautiful with my leg freckles, a short red, orange and white coat and my BEST features are my amber eyes and my permanent eyeliner. My tail is also an attention getter....wags constantly unless I am concentrating and then it will be curled up over my back. Okay, so we covered my looks...let's talk about my personality a little bit. I am very affectionate and I really love to spend time with all kinds of people and other pups. Getting hugs and kisses and a daily tummy rub will make my day! When I am at an adoption event, I do this really funny thing where I lean into the crate so you can pet my whole body without having to stick your hands through the holes. This is one of those smart tricks I have learned over the years of attending these events. I also know how to sit, shake paws and several other cool tricks. I bet I can learn any trick you throw my way. I love to stay busy and have fun, so an active family would be great for me. I am a good jogger, hiker, dog park participant and walker because I am super social. I'm not too social with cats however, so I need to be adopted by a family that does not have one. I do not live with children, but I see them at the adoption events and the park and they are great back scratchers so having them around would be just fine. I would do well in any family dynamic because I am really adaptable to all situations. After all of this talk about myself, I am hopeful that you will decide to love me for the rest of my life. I have got many more years to share with someone special, so let's meet. I am healthy, spayed, current on my vaccinations, house trained and do not forget...beautiful and smart. Skippy Girl currently lives in Houston, Texas and is on the network for Vancouver, BC because we have several amazing volunteers that live in this city that help coordinate successful out-of- area adoptions. Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Mr. Chuck is an excellent boy! He could have really been named Curious George because he is such an explorer and likes to know what's going on at all times. Chuck is a very inquisitive puppy and quite intelligent. He notices everything! Chuck has loads of puppy energy and is constantly entertaining us with his puppy shenanigans. He is very well-behaved on the leash and will go anywhere at anytime. He is absolutely a perfect companion for people and dogs; however this is not the case for the feline friends. He is a bit too much for cats and should be adopted into a cat-free family. He loves to meet and play with all of the new dogs and people ... (Read More)at the dog park or while walking on his leash in the neighborhood. He already knows 'sit' and is smart enough for his new owner to teach him lots of commands quickly. He is very charming and eager to please his human companions and gets compliments constantly. This very sweet boy is tall and slender, has an adorable curly tail and a balletic stance. He loves to play all day and then cuddle up with his people before bedtime. He's the best of both worlds, fun and cuddly! Chuck is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, house trained and crate trained. He is about 1 year old, 48 pounds and will most likely max out at 50 pounds. He's a great size, active enough for outdoorsy activities and calm enough to watch TV with you too. Charming Chuck is ready today for his new family and so for new adventures, please contact us at corridorrescueadopt@gmail.com or fill out an adoption application under the adoption tab at www.corridorrescue.org if he sounds like the perfect guy for your family. Chuck currently lives in Houston, Texas and is on the network for Vancouver, BC because we have several amazing volunteers who live there that help coordinate successful out-of-state adoptions. Corridor Rescue has the very fortunate ability to transport dogs to other areas via the United Airlines PetSafe program. We have worked out a very cost-effective way to transport these lucky dogs to their new homes. The transport cost is $225, which includes the airline flight, a new pet travel kennel that you can keep upon arrival and the required health documents from the veterinarian. The adoption fee is $150 for all of our dogs. The total cost for adopting this pet is $375. For questions or more information please email us corridorrescueadopt@gmail.com (Less)

Animal ID: Panda071404Panda (female)

Newfoundland Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Panda is a large (95 pound) Newfoundland/Ackbash cross. She has been a wonderful pet for our family but our work and living situation is changing so we are looking for the perfect new home for her. Check out her Facebook page - (Panda Matthews) She is 3 (birthday July 14, 2011). We bought her at 6 weeks old from the family who had bred her mom. Panda's mom, Annie, is a gorgeous pure white Ackbash and her father is Bruno, a purebred Newfie. (there is a pic of Annie with Panda as a pup on her FB page). Panda was from the second litter of these two - because the pups had been so gorgeous and were in demand. Panda seems to have traits ... (Read More)from both breeds. She is lazy and sleepy like a Newfie but also loves the outdoors and would do well guarding a farm, as her mom did. (Although when, I say 'guard', I don't mean against humans - but if a fox or racoon came on the property, I could see her being aggressive with it - at least, in theory - she has never actually done this). She is good with people, including children. The only concern is with her size. If she gets excited, she could jump or knock over an older person or a child. She is a bit oblivious to own power and size. She is very tall and lean. She has had obedience training but is not always responsive off-leash. She has been spayed. She enjoys the comforts of home and has a small area of our house where she is allowed to go (not the living room or upstairs). She has been used to sleeping indoors. She has a really beautiful, long coat and she sheds a lot. . She is a really lovely dog and we are heartbroken to have to re-locate her. (Less)

Sit right down and I will tell you a tale, the tale of a fateful trip. My trip began in Michigan and after a 3 hour car ride, I ended up in Canada, but I am by no means stranded! Live is good! My foster mom has named me Gilligan (Gilley for short) because I am such a friendly and happy go lucky fella, just like Gilligan from Gilligans Island. I am a 5-year-old boy that is very well mannered and has settled in quite quickly in my new foster home in Toronto Ontario. I love walks, rides in the car and trips to the beach. This weekend my foster mom took me into the water and I absolutely loved it! I can now go in all by myself. I walk well ... (Read More)on a leash but I do bark and leap at bicycles. I do not like them one bit. Because of this, I must always be on a leash. I would be fine with children living in the home, but none under 5, as I am quite hefty and would knock toddlers down quite easily. I am currently getting three long walks a day, along with a good hour at night at the leash free dog park to run and play with other dogs. I get along very well with other dogs and would be fine with another one in the home. Right now I have a foster sister named Willow and I have totally respected her space, toys and place on the bed. I do admit that it can get quite crowded with four of us in a queen-sized bed, so I often hop off and spend most of the night on my blankie, on the dog bed on the bedroom floor. Oh yeah, I snore big time, but this may be improved once I lose a few pounds. I have a lovely face, sweet jowls and a hiney that shakes like crazy when I am happy! All I need now is a permanent place to call my own and I will be golden! (Less)

Zulu is a happy and loving dog 99 percent of the time. However, there have been times when he has shown aggression and been territorial over his crate. He has bitten two friends of my daughter(both young adults)in the last 15 months. As long as everyone understands that his crate is off limits then we don't have a problem. We are afraid that he will decide that some other area inside or outside in the yard is also 'his turf' and may seriously harm someone, like perhaps a little kid or older person. We love him but we have to do something...

Trudy came to us as a stray dog, who was raising 6 puppies on her own, in the bush. Her puppies were fat, but she was almost starved to death. We caught her and the pups; we raised them and adopted all 6 out to good homes. Trudy is still with us. We have grown to love her dearly, and we will only let her go to exactly the right place. She has a very strong guard dog instinct and she is prepared to back up her bark with a bite....until she knows you. Then she is a very loyal dog, calm, confident, loving. We cannot adopt this dog out in the usual way....she can not go to a family or a person unless we were convinced somebody would always keep ... (Read More)her away from people....cause if she bites, she will pay the price, and have to be euthanized. Instead, we are checking to see if someone could have her as a guard dog, but still give her plenty of 1:1 time, love, and attention. Whoever applied would be screened to the nth degree. Trudy will not go to anybody unless we feel someone will treat her really well. If you are that person, call 204-734-5149. (Less)

Meet Toby! He's an 8 year old 'Bug' who was born blind (one eye removed after birth, no vision out of other eye but no issues with it). He is one of the most AMAZING dogs we have ever met up with. Every one that meets him can't believe he has no vision. He is incredibly bright, can 'map out' a home in a very short time and learns commands fast. Very affectionate (will spend hours sitting on your lap or by your side on the couch---or just in his bed on the floor), walks on leash really well and follows voices better than any sighted dog around. He just wants to be in a home without small children as he can get spooked with sudden ... (Read More)movements. He is crate trained, rides extremely well in a car (just lies down and sleeps), and gets along with just about every dog he meets...he wants to play with them, but often gets frustrated when play gets too boisterous. Totally healthy and up to date on everything---he has been VERY well cared for by his previous owners who surrendered him with many many tears (and are still missing him). We would keep him in a heartbeat but our house is over flowing. GREAT for someone (no small children---ie under 8) who wants a companion and can give love, affection and has a little patience until he gets used to new surroundings, preferable with a fenced in backyard as he loves to wander about in the grass. This dog has SO much to give! If you are looking for an older pug who still has lots of life and energy, please think about this guy! Rescue Me ID: 14-07-30-00316Nova (female)

Siberian Husky    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Her name is Nova, named after a star for her speed. She is a very social dog and thrives to run and play with other people, but mostly other dogs. Her first year of life, she was raised with a German shepherd, they were a phenomenal duo. She has quite a unique personality and loves the outdoors. I cannot emphasize more on how much she adores to play and cuddle up with me in bed. She is truly the most unique dog I have ever had the chance to own. She lets me put her on my shoulders and pick her up in my arms. She's relatively small for a pure breed Siberian husky. She takes after her mother for her size and after her father for her fur. ... (Read More) She weighs about 45 lbs. She's not a barker but has anxiety when I leave. It has led me to purchase a cage & a muzzle for her. Although now I prefer to not cage her and just stick with the muzzle due to her high anxiety. Huskies are escape artists and she hasn't failed to prove it. She's a bit evasive around children first but eventually warms up. Although she warms up to them, she wouldn't be comfortable living permanently around children younger than 8-10 years old. She has never shown aggressive behaviours but certainly needs to have walks and run every day or else she will be bored and become destructive. This is certainly nothing new to anyone who's ever had the chance to own a husky. It pains me to have to part with her, but due to the nature of her breed, she becomes extremely destructive if not given the proper amount of exercise. Taking her outside for walks and runs twice a day hasn't been enough. After almost 3 years with her, I've come to the realization she needs another dog to be with and someone with prior experience with high energy dog. She is a shedder, like any other husky she will shed a huge amount twice a year during shedding season. She's been raised indoors and I would hate to see her go to a family that rather tie their dog outside. She's been fully vaccinated but would be due for her yearly check-up. I would prefer her to have the chance to cohabitate with someone who has prior experience with huskies and for her to be able to run with other dogs on a large property. Feel free to reply if you find you could give Nova a great life in a second home. (Less)

Hi, I have a Shiloh Sheppard/Collie cross dog. He is very affectionate, loving and full of energy. He knows basic commands:sit/stay/come/drop it and lay down. He obeys them most of the time unless he is distracted by another dog or person. So he still will need some consistent training to enforce them. Shiloh loves people, children, dogs and is very friendly and has been socialized with them since I had him. He wakes me up every morning by putting his two paws on me and giving me a kiss. Shiloh loves attention from his humans and cuddles. He can be a little afraid....if another dog is aggressive or fearful too, lastly he can be afraid ... (Read More)when introduced to any new situation. He loves runs and walks (goes to the dog parks frequently) and will need a home where he will get a lot of exercise. Besides his dry and wet food, he likes apples, carrots and cherries. I rescued him in November 2013, he was found in a ditch-stabbed through his thigh and would have froze to death. It was evident that he had never been in a house. Through patient training with me and great assistance from my Golden retriever THOR, he has come a long way from being a skinny scared puppy. He is house trained and can be left in the house with out destroying anything. Although, I have only left him a few times in the house without my other dog. He has been left alone with Thor for 8 hrs without any destruction. I do have stuffed animals for him and bones which he does chew when I leave the house. He does not like it when people are on a swing or using the vacuum. Also my sub pump freaks him out. I am looking to find Shiloh a home with another dog preferably. He is very attached to my dog Thor, or alternatively, with someone who will be affectionate to him as he requires interaction with a human or other dogs. I also have a cat that he is good with, but at times he tries to play with my cat, who wants nothing to do with that. To re-iterate Shiloh will need a home where he is exercised daily and a patient caring supportive human to give him the confidence when entering new situations. I run at least 1 hr/day and Shiloh could keep going. He would do well on a farm, however I don't want him to be the sole farm dog, left outside 24/7, in a barn without human interaction. The reason I am looking to re home Shiloh, is so that I can help other dogs in need. He is ready to go to his forever home. When he was rescued from the ditch he was taken into the Humane's Society where they fixed his injury and gave him his shots for the year, neutered him and had him micro chipped. I have all the documents from the Humane's society which I will provide the new owners, along with his pet bed, toys, food and I also have an insulated dog house (dog house for a fee). I would also ask that I come to Shiloh's new home to view the property in order to insure he will be living in a dog friendly home. Shiloh will not do well as a chained dog. He will need a yard where he can run around or a farm. Please contact me if you are interested in Shiloh Sheppy. P.S. he has completely healed from his injury. No issues. (Less)

Georgia is looking for an experienced home that can stick with her through the good and bad. She is approx 65lbs with a long sleek body and long legs - her mix is a best guess! Border Collie? Lab? Shepherd? Terrier?? She was recently adopted out to a family and then started to exhibit re-activity to other dogs which is new to her. She has lived in past foster homes with other dogs and has coexisted peacefully. Georgia is 2 1/2 years old physically, but was stunted mentally by a previous owner when they stopped all interactions with other dogs around the age of 7-8 months old. She is now a 2 1/2 year old dog with the brain of an immature ... (Read More)puppy - which is extremely frustrating for poor Georgia. This is where her re-activity originates, she does not understand social cues and this causes her to become frustrated and lash out. We just recently had Georgia reassessed by our trainer and she believes that Georgia can be rehabbed fairly easily, she just needs someone who has experience that can give her positive experiences. The more positive experiences she has, the less negative (reactive) ones she will have. Within an hour training session, we had Georgia walking 4 feet away from another calm dog and she was not paying him any attention. So we know she can do it, she just needs someone to help her get there. So, we are looking for an amazing home for Georgia that has dog experience, preferably with re-activity who can help her get over this phase of her life. That amazing home should also be the athletic kind as Georgia is an athletic girl, she loves running and walking and biking and hiking - you name it and she's up for it! Georgia has proven she can live with dog savvy cats but we prefer a home without children (and other dogs for right now). With some one on one work we know Georgia can be an amazing dog! She is so loving and cuddly and wants to be with you all the time. Georgia is reliably housetrained, and is crate trained but is not destructive and fine being left out alone. She also knows all her basic commands and is a smart cookie but can be stubborn. Georgia will need some help with recall and loose leash walking. (Less)

Dog was taken over by myself to help someone who was getting rid of her. She needs a lot more attention than I can provide her. She is left alone 8 hours/day, and seems to have anxiety when I am not home, consequently she stays in a garage. All other time with her are amazing. Brilliant, and terrific with other dogs at dog runs. She is a Malinois X

Rescued after being abandoned in an apartment for 2 weeks and on the brink of being euthanized because nobody came to claim him. Roam is very aware of how close he came to walking the 'Green Mile' and shows it with his abundance of affection & joy. He is living around 4 cats right now and he does not bother with them at all but likes to play with the 4-month-old kitten. We just don't know how he is with children because he hasn't been around any for us to witness as of yet. He is amazingly obedient! You just couldn't want more from him.     Jack is si adorable. I love him with all my heart. I still hope there's the perfect place somewherefor him because he's very touching. He's actually my best friend. But.. he has some comportemental issues. When outside, he doesn't get along with other dog. He even attacked one a years ago. We do not wish to rehome him in a house with kids as he has not been properly socialized with kids yet. We hope to rehome Levon on a farm as his border collie and maremma instincts are both strong.     This sweet senior is 9 year old HOLLIE IS SO DESERVING OF A FOREVER HOME! who has a very sad story to tell before coming into Safehome Animal Rescue's care. She was brought into the care of Safehome from a shelter in Georgia where she was picked up as a stray. Staff there believe she may have been used as bait in a dog fighting ring when she was younger dog. On top of this, she tested positive for heart worm and had started developing fatty masses due to her age. As is always the case, we at Safehome were not deterred by her condition and brought her into our care. She has undergone the very difficult HW disease and we are thrilled to say ... (Read More)she is now heart worm free! In addition, she has been spayed, vaccinated, chipped and dewormed. She recently underwent surgery to remove 2 small tumors that thankfully, were all benign. Hollie is a lovely girl with a sweet and gentle disposition and she is ready to find a place to call her forever home where she will finally know the safety, comfort and love she so deserves. The ideal home would not have small dogs or cats. Hollie is wonderful with children, but is a strong girl weighing in at about 85 lbs. Dachshund    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Meet Cricket; she is a tiny little dog with a big personality. Despite her small size, Cricket is a going concern and would go go go all day if you let her. She loves going on hikes, splashing at the beach, playing fetch, chasing her friends, and working out treat puzzles. Cricket is a high energy dog who needs several hours of exercise each day. When it's time to relax Cricket is a great cuddler. She is a bit of a princess who would prefer to sleep on the couch with you, or snuggle in your computer chair if you let her. She's great at riding in the car (she has her own seat belt) and enjoys going on outings whenever she can. Prior to her ... (Read More)time with us, Cricket was not socialized with other dogs and many new experiences frightened her. We have been working hard to expose her to different animals, people & environments, and although she's learning quickly about many new things, some things still create challenges for her; Cricket's largest challenge is in meeting new dogs. She is uncomfortable with most new dogs at this time, however, once she makes a new doggy friend, she really enjoys playing. Our goal for Cricket will be to place her in a home with another dog who she gets along with and can learn from. This may take several meetings with the right match to succeed. Cricket is comfortable around older children (teenagers), but she tends to get over-stimulated by the excited play behaviour of younger kids. Therefore, it would be best if Cricket were in a home without young children. Cricket has a very strong prey-drive so should not be in a home with cats or small animals such as bunnies, hamsters, ferrets, etc. Cricket is more comfortable with women than she is with men. Cricket is listed as a special-needs dog because she has some neurological deficits. She can run & play just like any other dog, but she has an odd gait & skips as she walks. Cricket has been to see orthopedic & neurological specialists and although we don't have a firm diagnosis for Cricket's gait, it is strongly suspected that her cerebellum (the part of the brain responsible for coordination) did not develop fully. Cricket is not in any pain & she does not require any medical care or medications at this time. She has a hard time with stairs & it is suspected that she may see things slightly differently than your average dog, which may explain some of her nervous reactions to new stimuli. Cricket's new home will need to be prepared to continue to work with her & her trainer regularly. This will be a long-term commitment for her new home and is a requirement for adoption. If you would like to learn more about Cricket, please email us at victoriapets@gmail.com. She is currently in foster care but her foster mom would be happy to talk to you about her. (Less)

Duke is a typical Weimaraner. He needs an owner that understands that he is high-strung. I adopted him from his first owners at 7 and unfortunately life changes have us in this situation. I have all medical records from previous owner. He has fear aggression with other large dogs, but has come a long way and is now able to make long-term friends- but he needs lots of supervision/support to get to that point (the dog trainer said Duke gets mommy-itis something fiece!). Surprisingly his favourite dogs are a lab and a chihuahua. Indoors he loves to cuddle and is super cute, outside he is a 'working'dog and needs to play. His favourite ...     Kanela is approx 6 yrs old ~40lbs (in photo, on right) She's very into other dogs, extremely scared of people - barks or growls at strangers out of fear (we wonder if she might have been abused by whomever had her prior to us, we rescued her from a shelter). She would need someone with a lot of patience and another dog would likely help; preferably, Naoki :) Fit and healthy but has plaque (we had the vet clean them a couple years ago but it's hard to brush her teeth) Very calm indoors and very affectionate once she trusts someone and extremely patient with our 1 1/2 year, no aggression towards children at all.

Norman is a very handsome Boxer X who is looking for just the right home. He is a real cuddler when he's tired out, but an extremely active boy most of the time. He loves people and other dogs & needs a home with someone who can provide the right balance of activity, guidance & serenity. Norman's previous experiences have left him with some anxieties & challenges to work through, but once he's comfortable in the right home he will make a wonderful companion. (Read More)needs a home with someone who has the energy to drain his. A runner or someone who spends a lot of time outdoors & likes to go for long hikes would be a great partner for Norman. Although Norman is an active dog, he has some anxieties and needs a home that is calm/serene to help him learn how to relax. Proper experience & consistent guidance will be needed to help him settle in & learn confidence. Since Norman enjoys the company of other dogs he will do best in a home with a calm/balanced dog to be his role model. No cats please. Due to Norman's separation anxiety he is uncomfortable being left alone. Someone who works from home, or who can take Norman to work during the day, will help him get off on the right foot. Although Norman is good with children, it will benefit him to be in a home without very young children that may increase his excitement level. Norman hadn't had much in the way of obedience training when he first came to us, but he recently graduated from Communicanine's Adult Manners Class. He will sit & lie down on command, and he's working on 'come.' We would like to see Norman's forever family continue with his training, so signing him up for class with a behaviourist will be a requirement for his adoption. Boxer's tend to have heart problems as they age, but at this time the vet says that Norman's heart sounds great. Although Norman is primarily white he is not deaf. He does have food allergies so is on a hypoallergenic diet. For more info on Norman, please email us at victoriapets@gmail.com. PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Canada
Dogs can make good pets in Canada if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia Canada Fact Sheet
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.)
