Rescue Me ID: 17-04-27-00164Bosco (male)

American Staffordshire Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Female Dogs Only, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Bosco is a dog who loves his family. He likes to play with our kids and their friends. He loves to cuddle, but you will find he likes to sneak on the bed at night and sprawls out. He is always happy and walks around with a smile. The only time he barks is when someone comes to the door. Bosco is one of three dogs we own and shares the house with three cats which he likes to cuddle with. We have had him since he was a puppy. The other two dogs we have are a boxer/rotti cross (male) and a lab/mastiff cross (female). He used to cuddle with both of our dogs, but When Bosco turned 1 year old he attacked our male dog. We thought maybe that it was ... (Read More)a one time thing and separated the dogs within the house for a short time and tried it again with no luck. We spoke with a canine rehabilitation professional and she told us that he is asserting his dominance over our male (alpha). She also mentioned that if we take him for rehabilitation this behaviour may not stop. Unfortunately we can't take that chance with having other animals and kids in the house. Bosco only has this issue with our male and plays with all of our other animals, kids and adults. He turns into a big suck when he gets in trouble and gives you those puppy dog eyes. He has a lot of life left in him which is why we are trying to find a loving home for him where he will be happy. If Bosco can't be rescued we will be forced to euthanize him which we really don't want to do as we love him very much. (Less)

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis,
 Cancer, Aggressive

[Read About Natural Cancer Care] Cheri came to DunRoamin' on November 7, 2016 from the Grand Falls area where she was unable to receive the medical care she required. She was born about November 7, 2007, was intact and in heat. She had three small mammary masses and a skin mass on her left side which were removed on December 16, 2016. She had a mild infection and chronic scarring in her right ear flap and her left ear had a severe infection with a great amount of scarring and ulceration which provided her with much pain. She underwent surgery to remove that on December 15, also. Cheri also had arthritis in her left knee, right hip and ... (Read More)spine, but with a few mobility supplements and medications, she is now doing just fine. She would like to have some nice, slow walks for exercise with her new family, of whom she dreams each day and night.. Cheri is a nice girl who is happy to be warm, pain free and have the care that she deserves. She does not enjoy small animals, so should not be homed with cats or small dogs. When she is chosen for a home and family, she hopes it will be with someone who can appreciate what she has been through and love her passionately for the remainder of her life. She deserves that, at the very least. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-03-18-00140Journey (female)

Neapolitan Mastiff    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Journey is a Neapolitan Mastiff who was born about April 14, 2013. She was surrendered to DunRoamin' from the Woodstock area on April 4, 2016. As her name suggests, she is on a journey - in her case, to find the right home. This girl is packed with potential and we are confident that with adequate exercise, training and consistency, she has a lot to offer. During her stay in foster homes, we have learned a lot about Journey. She is not a fan of horses and would probably chase cars if not controlled on a leash. She has reacted to certain children and adults, but seems fine with others. For these reasons, she should never be left ... (Read More)unattended with children or other animals and only applicants with no other pets and children older than 15 years will receive a response to their application. A fenced yard and obedience lessons are non-negotiable requirements and potential owners will be required to provide contact information for the trainer they plan to use. Journey's new owner needs to be experienced and willing to provide the time and training that is going to be required during her transition period and continued long-term. References and veterinary checks will be a requirement as part of the adoption process. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Canada
Dogs can make good pets in Canada if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
