Hello!! I'm BEETHOVEN! A very gentle and sweet dog who would love to BE YOUR FOREVER COMPANION. My story is filled with sadness and hardship but thanks to very kind souls, my chance has turned around. See, I use to live in the streets, homeless without anyone to care for me. No food and no love... Chased all the time, always scared I might get poisoned or abused. I was injured in a car accident and my back leg broken. But a kind person took me to a great clinic, the Bremen's Animal Healthcare Center, where a fabulous veterinarian, Dr. ncekara, took very good care of me!! He repaired my leg with a surgery and soon I will be all ready to ... (Read More)go to a forever home. Will be able to run with you on beaches and fetch the ball and the Frisbee!! Am a very friendly with people and other pets, kind and calm and love to play and get lots of belly rubs and cuddles. I don't want to go back in streets where it's scary and sad. I long for a home where I could bring love and happiness with loving parents. Would love to go on walks with you, lay next to a warm fire, sharing peaceful moments with you. Am also a good listener and will keep all your secrets Could you fall in love with me so you and we can spend our lives together?? I will always love you!!! So please... I am just waiting for you, can you give me a chance in a new life???? If you have that special place for me and want to know more about my great personality, please use the 'message' button on our facebook page or email: - adoptiontimeinavsallar@gmail.com All will be taken care of so we can head home.     Harley is a wonderful dog. He has a sweet temperment but is very fearful of adult males. He was formerly a kennel dog so only recently house trained. It is still a work in progress. A 'dogs life' is very new to Harley and he is only just learning to play. Harley is a very sensitive and delicate boy who needs lots of love and attention. He is untested with children.

Animal ID: 14-04-08-00093Pepper (female)

Foxhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

'Pepper' has been with us for over 5 weeks, adopted from the Barrie branch of SPCA March 1st. She is a beautiful American foxhound (mixed?) around 2 years of age. We are in our mid 50s, fairly fit, and had an elderly, very quiet beagle before Pepper. Although she has a loud bark she settles fairly quickly BUT I am a piano teacher and have people coming into the driveway every day so Pepper gets to bark a LOT!! She came to us knowing some basic commands (sit, shake a paw, down, off) and is very comfortable in her doggie den (crate). She eats well (I have her on grain free dried food and probiotics) and will sit and wait for her food. We did ... (Read More)not teach her this. We do not know her former life history. She seems to have issues with other dogs (we were told this at the shelter) and use a gentle leader on her when walking to minimize the pulling as well as the lunging and barking when she sees another dog. It doesn't always happen but when it does she's intense. We thought that we'd be able to put her into doggie daycare to run off excess energy but, until she is socialised with dogs, that is not an option. She has exchanged sniffs and tail wags when other dogs are off leash but when they go away, she will bark. Presently, we walk her 5 times a day for at least a half hour each - 2 of them are around 50 - 60 minutes - but Pepper needs to run, she needs more space. We are looking for owners who know dogs well, can deal with a bossy foxhound (she's very smart), and have lots of space for Pepper to explore and run around in. NO backyards!!! NO urban homes (that's what we have). We will not be getting another dog after Pepper. This was an invaluable lesson for us and we are hopeful that a better owner can be found for this beautiful baby. She's awesome with people!! (Less)

Hi my name is Sparky!!! I'm a very special boy! So love to play and be hugged.I was rescued from a very hard life in the street of TURKEY, in the city of ALANYA. Am now in pension in Alanya, Turkey until a loving home is found for me. Am about 6 month old, neutered and have all my vaccines. I would love a forever home with a loving family ... Am hoping so much you can help me out and adopt me??? Thank you!! PLEASE, help me find a home. I will be so grateful for the rest of my life!! The person taking care of my adoption is in Canada but she helps me to find a home where I will be all happy. To make sure I will be going to a loving home, possible adopters will be checked. (Less)

Saint Bernard    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive

Dexter has begun to display dominance and aggression towards anyone who requests him to let go of anything such as towels (for wiping feet) chewing on his bed, etc. he is not food aggressive. He is happy to spend most of the day lying on the floor. He doesn't pull when walking, but he does walk a little ahead, he will pull to go see another dog, or a squirrel. He is 90Lbs. We took Dexter in 3 weeks ago, and our cat is still hiding in the basement as he wants to chase her even though she gives him a warning and has swatted at him. I don't think he is aggressive to cats, but there hasn't been much contact. Regarding other dogs, he seems ... (Read More)friendly, but the only contact he has had from us is visiting Pet Smart. My husband requested Dexter to stop chewing his bed and when he reached down to grab the bed a dexter attempted to bite him and brushed his arm. We are becoming fearful of this aggression and don't want to risk our children to this aggression. (Less)

Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Banjo is the runt of a rescue litter, and she's had a hard time finding a family interested in a tiny female shepherd! I have tons of information and pictures for anyone who's seriously interested. Banjo is house broken, has basic training, loves cats, dogs and people and children, and is slightly submissive although she's got confidence.... I just call it runt-syndrome, she just asks for a lot of belly rubs basically, but she's not fearful, just makes her submission clear to those she approaches. LOTS of information. Please contact. She is ready to go and transport can be arranged for the right forever family.

Weimaraner    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Fearful/Anxious

Duke is a typical Weimaraner. He needs an owner that understands that he is high-strung. I adopted him from his first owners at 7 and unfortunately life changes have us in this situation. I have all medical records from previous owner. He has fear aggression with other large dogs, but has come a long way and is now able to make long-term friends- but he needs lots of supervision/support to get to that point (the dog trainer said Duke gets mommy-itis something fiece!). Surprisingly his favourite dogs are a lab and a chihuahua. Indoors he loves to cuddle and is super cute, outside he is a 'working'dog and needs to play. His favourite ... (Read More)person to play with is anyone under 4 feet tall. He is scared of thunderstorms and likes to hide in the bathroom. The thundershirt did not help...but he does like wearing clothes! Rescue Me ID: 14-03-05-00486Matt **Mr. Unique** (male)

Boxer    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Matt is Mr. Unique in every way: he's our only white Boxer; he has two different colored eyes; and he is the silliest dog on the entire planet. Oh, and he's deaf. We don't mention that first because honestly, we don't think it hinders him and certainly is not a handicap. Some people say these things make it harder to find a dog like Matt a forever home, but we think these traits give him special powers! For instance, we have never seen a dog more in tune with his surroundings; Matt has razor sharp vision and extrasensory perception, which at times is so keen, he almost startles himself! When he is among our volunteers and friends, Matt is ... (Read More)understandably more secure and relaxed (which is when his clown side comes out to party). Our only requirement in an adopter would be that they understand if Matt is meeting new people, he MUST be given the ability to approach them at his own speed. Matt appreciates being allowed to watch, observe and introduce himself to new faces; this is all about Matt feeling safe and knowing he can trust you, which takes time. That said, Matt is clearly (as exhibited in the photo album) a people person who is adventurous, athletic, and a gorgeous Boxer boy. Don't take our word for it though- contact us to schedule a time to meet him for yourself! For more information, pictures, and video of Matt, please click on the Facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/edit/a.230293783789906.1073741839.190196077799677/ (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-03-01-00478Bailey (male)

Beagle    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis, Aggressive

Loving beagle in need of forever home. Owner is moving to an apartment and couldn't take him. I have taken him in hoping to find him a new home and avoid the need to place him into a shelter that may euthenize him due to his age and tendency to bite under certain circumstances. However, I have 3 dogs already and there are problems therefore due to his behaviour. I can not keep him long! Bailey is a 9 year-old beagle who is in need of an attentive, dedicated and experienced dog owner. A lack of formal training and enough stimulation has resulted in behaviour issues with Bailey: - He is highly food motivated. This can be a good thing when ... (Read More)training, but it also means that he tries to get food on the table/countertop and is aggressive with other pets and probably children if food out. - He tends to suck blankets and clothes. This seems to be a calming action for him. - When he has a toy/food/something he shouldn't have and you try to take it from him, he has attempted to bite. For this reason, Bailey should not go to a family with children. - Bailey LOVES people and when people come to the house, he howls as he cannot contain his excitement. - As a beagle, he has a tendency to catch a scent and follow it and cannot be trusted off leash. When let outside, he should be on a lead at all times or in a fully fenced yard. -All of these behaviours can be corrected with the right combination of mental stimulation, physical stimulation, and obedience training. Bailey was crate trained as a puppy, but he never liked being in a crate. For the last 7 years or so, he's had free reign of the house and has never been destructive, however can not be left alone with other pets in case of obsessive aggression with toys etc. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-02-24-00086Stanley (male)

Basset Hound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Stanley was adopted from a 'breeder' in South Western Ontario at 8 weeks. He developed food aggression early on as the runt of the litter (of 7) but was trained out of it and will come for love while eating and then go back to his food. Stanley had NO issues for the first couple years and then SUDDENLY BECAME AFRAID of strangers. He has always been a GREAT dog for our family but has developed anxiety which in turn presents as aggression toward new people/dogs, although even recently, if new people are around often enough and let him approach and learn to trust them, he learns to love them like family and that can happen in a week! Stanley ... (Read More)still goes for play-dates with his favourite beagle, Pixie and used to love playing and sleeping alongside his feline brother, 'Marty' (until he passed away last summer). After several professional opinions were sought, it was clear that Stanley had received abuse at the hands of someone that he had known and thought he could trust. He had been 'dog-sat' lots as a young dog for days at a time while his family was away with the kids so it is believed he was struck with something by one of the caregivers/children. Stanley is house and crate trained and has never ruined a thing. He loves to run, go for long walks (on and off leash) and play with the kids. He will sit obediently for treats and has learned to be patient for treats/feeding as well as to stay out of the kitchen when preparing our meals and our meal times. He sleeps with the kids and is a great mate. Our biggest problem is finding a 'sitter' for Stanley because until he trusts you, he doesn't want to be approached or touched by you... He has a deep loud bark that sounds scary and if people don't heed our warning to not touch or approach him, he will lash out in a bark that sounds scary and of course immediately after that, he sinks to the floor afraid and sorry for what has transpired. After a long hiatus from nail clipping, he now goes to our local Pet Valu where he has learned to trust the girls there and that was a huge step for Stanley. He hasn't bitten anyone BUT we are afraid if left to survive in our busy, child-filled, residential setting for the remainder of his life, his anxiety will ruin this fella and he will bite someone. Stanley would be best suited for out of town life on a property with room to run. He loves the outdoors and would be a great companion for someone that has patience to let this relationship begin slowly and at Stanley's pace. REcently Stanley went to a hunt camp with 11 strange men who left him to his own adventures throughout the day and didn't try to pet him. He barked/growled/lunged at no one and the men had him curled up at their feet by the fire and sleeping on their beds that first night. I would be willing to let Stanley go to someone responsible for a trial period and would be willing to foot his food and vaccinations for a period. All his toys/food/bedding/leashes/collars/muzzle and dishes could go with him if required. Please call either phone number or email me directly for more information/suggestions at lisaagraham13@gmail.com. Stanley is also on Kijjiji but to date the only interest has been by people with children or by those that live in a close residential area like me with strangers everywhere and that wouldn't be the right match.     Hi My name is Rudy and I sure could use your help. I'm looking for a home where I can run free, I LOVE to swim. I will be your best friend. As you can see I love to be a lap dog. I love attention any way I can get it. If you need someone to listen I'll be there. I love people of all ages, especially little ones, they're my favourite. I get along with other dogs and I pretty much ignore cats. I just love my people. Just in case you think I'm bragging this is what my foster mom said about me: He's very mild-mannered, gets along well with both my other dogs (lab and chihuahua) as well as the family cat. He adores children as they tend to ... (Read More)give him lots of snuggles. He roams free with the others while we are at work and school with no destruction to come home to. Excellent family guy.' So I'm not fibbing about how great a guy I am. So if you have a fenced in yard, and maybe even a pond I can swim in, I sure would appreciate it if you could find some room for me. I'm pretty spry for my age. My adoption donation will includes my neuter surgery (which I did not agree to), UTD vaccines, deworming, microchip, heartworm test and meds, flea control and complete vet check. If you think you can offer me a great home please email helpingpawsrescue@gmail.com and tell them Rudy sent you. (Less)

Doberman Pinscher    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults

Health: Spayed

Cloe is a loving and sweet girl. She is a senior dog but not ready to be put down. I am looking for a forever home where Cloe can live her remaining days being loved and cared for. I have had her since she was a pup but due to my current circumstances, I regretfully cannot care for her any longer. She has slowed down alot over the last few years and mostly sleeps. She's still a very good guard dog and is very protective of her people. Her hips aren't like they used to be and can't walk too far these days but is happy to be outside on a sunny day! Cloe has her quirks and I will fill you in on all of them as I want her to have the best suited ... (Read More)home possible. She is good with kids but would be better with adults. She is also good with most dogs and cats. She doesn't tolerate people rough housing or hitting one another in any way, she thinks she needs to defend and she will try to protect. She also doesn't like bikes, she will attack them. Lastly, she has a thing with water hoses...if it's running, she likes to attack it. It's funny but you have to watch how close she gets to your hands, she tends to get a bit carried away! She is a very loving and loyal companion in need of a new person or people. Please help as I am running out of options, she deserves so much more. Thank you. (Less)

Kanela is approx 6 yrs old ~40lbs (in photo, on right) She's very into other dogs, extremely scared of people - barks or growls at strangers out of fear (we wonder if she might have been abused by whomever had her prior to us, we rescued her from a shelter). She would need someone with a lot of patience and another dog would likely help; preferably, Naoki :) Fit and healthy but has plaque (we had the vet clean them a couple years ago but it's hard to brush her teeth) Very calm indoors and very affectionate once she trusts someone and extremely patient with our 1 1/2 year, no aggression towards children at all.

Naoki is approximately 8 or 9, and 50 lbs (in photo, on left) Fit and healthy, his only health condition is seasonal allergies. Strong prey drive and desire to run, typical of the breed - wants to chase and kill any squirrel, cat, four-legged creature he sees moving (consequentially, walks are not fun, off-leash areas are a big hit). Very calm indoors, and prefers to hang out near people, no problems with our four year old jumping around him and totally calm with our 1 1/2 year old toddler.

Sherlock is a 5 year old black male pit bull terrier with a strong, rugged physique. He weighs 74 pounds and is a little underweight due to his sad backstory. Hollywoof founder actually discovered Sherlock near downtown L.A., wearing a heavy leather harness, chained and padlocked to a fence. After speaking with the owner of the home near the fencing, it was determined that Sherlock had been abandoned and left to die. After feeding Sherlock several bowls of food, his gentle giant demeanor allowed us to unbuckle the many clasps on his harness and free him. After a month at the shelter, with no owner ever showing up to redeem him, Hollywoof ... (Read More)rescued him. Despite whatever neglect he may have endured, Sherlock is a remarkably sweet soul who just needs someone to show him that life can be good. He loves small dogs, even the yappy ones- in fact, he has been temperament tested and found to be what we believe is dog friendly! He is the kind of dog who will gain confidence from being around other dogs, and with humans Sherlock is just as affectionate once he can slowly sniff you and look you in the eye- he is an excellent judge of character, and we just want to see him showered with the love he so deserves.     Norman is a very handsome Boxer X who is looking for just the right home. He is a real cuddler when he's tired out, but an extremely active boy most of the time. He loves people and other dogs & needs a home with someone who can provide the right balance of activity, guidance & serenity. Norman's previous experiences have left him with some anxieties & challenges to work through, but once he's comfortable in the right home he will make a wonderful companion. (Read More)needs a home with someone who has the energy to drain his. A runner or someone who spends a lot of time outdoors & likes to go for long hikes would be a great partner for Norman. Although Norman is an active dog, he has some anxieties and needs a home that is calm/serene to help him learn how to relax. Proper experience & consistent guidance will be needed to help him settle in & learn confidence. Since Norman enjoys the company of other dogs he will do best in a home with a calm/balanced dog to be his role model. No cats please. Due to Norman's separation anxiety he is uncomfortable being left alone. Someone who works from home, or who can take Norman to work during the day, will help him get off on the right foot. Although Norman is good with children, it will benefit him to be in a home without very young children that may increase his excitement level. Norman hadn't had much in the way of obedience training when he first came to us, but he recently graduated from Communicanine's Adult Manners Class. He will sit & lie down on command, and he's working on 'come.' We would like to see Norman's forever family continue with his training, so signing him up for class with a behaviourist will be a requirement for his adoption. Boxer's tend to have heart problems as they age, but at this time the vet says that Norman's heart sounds great. Although Norman is primarily white he is not deaf. He does have food allergies so is on a hypoallergenic diet. For more info on Norman, please email us at victoriapets@gmail.com. He has been assessed for adoption by Transform Animal Behaviour; his assessment will be made available upon request. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Canada
Dogs can make good pets in Canada if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
