Animal ID: 17-03-11-00523Poppy (female)

Tibetan Spaniel Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Needs Vaccinations

Poppy is a smart little lady with high spirits. Although her breed is unknown, she looks like a tibetan spaniel mix. She is very small and should stay under 10 kilos. She's currently about 4 months old and a few kilos in weight. Poppy and her sister Cookie were rescued from a market in China. They were very sick when rescued. Against the odds, they pulled through and are now healthy and ready for adoption. Adopters should be informed of her health history: because she previously had CPV (canine parvo), Poppy shouldn't be placed in a home with other dogs who have NOT been vaccinated against CPV, and should not be placed in a home with other ... (Read More)dogs at all until she completes her immunizations (she has 2 more rounds over the next month). If you have other dogs, ask your vet before adopting Poppy. Poppy needs someone who can commit to puppy training. Since she grew up in a cage, potty training may be a bit more challenging, but so far she's been using puppy pads pretty successfully. She is extremely food motivated and will love learning tricks for treats. She is a fast learner and has a lot of energy and loves a challenge. Despite growing up in bad conditions, she shows no aggression or fear of humans (she has not been exposed to children at this point). Other animals are unknown. She's been fine with her sister but does exhibit some more dominant traits. Her adoption fee will be donated to RescueMe.org. For local adopters near Shenzhen, there is no additional adoption fee. FOR THE RIGHT ADOPTER, WE CAN SEND POPPY OVERSEAS. In this case, you will need to cover transportation and vet costs necessary to import her to you. Placing her in the USA, for example, costs around $1000USD. We will charge nothing for coordination. We are looking for a loving forever home for Poppy -- someone with the time and energy to train a puppy and give her a great, safe life. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in China
Dogs can make good pets in China if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia China Fact Sheet
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.) Dogs are red-green colorblind. Dogs can hear much lower frequencies than humans, over twice as high as humans, and about four times as far as humans.
