Poor little Prudence has a bad back leg. She sustained an injury (probably a bit) before she came to the kennels. We are trying to get the wound to heal by administering antibiotics for the infection and cleaning the wound deep inside but fear we may have to operate. She may always be a little lame at best. Lola is an australian shepherd puppy about 6-7 months old, that i rescued from the countryside, where she had been dumped. She was very friendly but full of ticks etc. She is under my foster care, but i need to find her a home where she can enjoy and be loved as a member of the family. She is not a guard dog, rather a lovely pet who just wants to play in the water, with the ball and with humans or dogs alike. Totoro comes from a litter of 13 pups abandoned five days ago at our shelter. He is gorgeous, very calm and sweet. He is two months old, weights 2,5kgs, and is a German shepherd mix. He is in Murcia, Spain, but we can send him wherever he will be loved (preferably in Spain). We do homecheck or skype interview before any adoption and a pre-adoption questionnaire. Found one weekend on the beach this young boy has obviously lived in a home before and is a bit bewildered about how his life has changed. He sits on command, gives his paw and is anxious to please and yet he has found himself living on the streets. Let's hope someone recognises him and comes to collect him - if he had a chip we could return him home easily. If no-one comes he will make a great family pet for one lucky family. They make fantastic, loyal pets are very laid back but will protect their people and home. Pax is a large dog but he is a big chicken! When he was brought to the kennels he had obviously been tied up for months, the rope had cut into his neck leaving him with big open sores. They have all healed now but poor Pax still carries the mental scars of what humans have done to him in the past. Despite all this he is incredibly gentle but he is scared and would probably find children just too much to handle. He needs a quiet home where his confidence can grow. We first started walking Lisa when we joined Adana about 2 and half years ago and have walked her most weekends since. My partner picked her out and she has proved to be a good choice as she is faithful, loyal and obedient. She is the biggest of all of the dogs we walk but she is tolerant of the smaller dogs, who eagerly greet her with kisses when they meet up. We were very sad when a year ago our hopes were raised and dashed when a couple from a Welsh farm thought of adopting her but didn't follow through. She is a very strong dog who needs space to run and exercise so a farm would have been fantastic for her. I doubt such an opportunity ... (Read More)would arise again but I can imagine her in a relaxing in a garden in the shade of a tree anticipating her next walk. We can't understand why Lisa hasn't been chosen for adoption yet as she would make someone a lovely companion and pet. She needs a little training as she tends to pull on the lead a bit but I am certain she will learn quickly as she is an intelligent lady. I think Lisa would benefit from a strong owner who enjoys walking. She is fine with children so she would also make a good family pet. Hanna was recently adopted but sadly was returned to the kennels as she is just so timid. She learned to love the people she lived with but could not cope with any change whatsoever. If visitors came to the house she would scale the fence and runaway. If her owners put on a different coat, she no longer recognised them. Sadly it seems that Hanna has been too long in the kennels and cannot cope with life outside. Found in Cancelada in a very poor state this little, male Podenco was ravenously hungry. Currently his coat is very dull and he is painfully thin but he has been tested for Leishmania and Erlichia and both results were negative. Mason is a young male cross-breed of around 11 months of age. He looks to have either Pitbull or Akito in him. He has a strong personality and needs an experienced handler who can train and stimulate him. He is good with children and wants to play with other dogs but he likes to play rough. He walks well on and off the lead, sits on command and has good recall skills. He gets bored easily and needs to be occupied. He is neutered and his vaccinations are up to date so he is ready to go! Honey was one of four puppies which were going to be put down in a 'Dog Pound ' in Spain. She is honey coloured as her name suggests. It was said that she was a Spanish Mastine' but looks like a labrador/ retriever with slightly long hair. She was house trained but has lived outside for a year, but when she has been inside has been clean. She was trained by an ex-police dog handler and is quite obedient as long as nothing better distracts her ! Dogs can make good pets in Spain if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year. Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized.
