Dachshund    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Otto is three years of chubby doxie personality. He is working to get his 13 pounds down to about 11. Otto is shy at first, a touch scared. You see he's been bounced around way too much in his young life. A day after coming to his foster home, Otto was happy, wagging his tail, wanting hugs and kisses. A quieter home would be ideal for Otto, though, with patience and TLC, he will blossom and be comfortable anywhere when he feels loved and secure. Please reach out and/or submit an application to adopt at http://www.almosthomerescue.org/onlineforms/adoptform.htm

Good day to you all, my name is Elsie and I'm in search of a new home. I was found wandering the streets of Philadelphia and was brought into the shelter, where I've acquired some pretty nice digs. I live in a staff member's office and I have my own comfy chair, a big bed and many toys. Please do not let that discourage you from meeting me though. My office mate is lovely and all, but I really need my own special person and home. I would like to be tucked in at night and greeted early in the morning! Okay, okay, the humans here do that, but still! So I do the cutest thing in the morning'|(And yes, I'm a pretty confident girl, but I think ... (Read More)you'll see why if you keep reading.) When the humans come in to take me for my first potty walk, I'm typically invisible as I've covered myself in my blankets. We will play a quick game of 'Where's Elsie?' and my tail makes a big commotion under the blankets, and that ultimately gives me away. You can see below just how adorable I am when I do this. Okay, we've covered the silly part of my demeanor but that's mostly to entertain my office mate. She calls me Monkey because in addition to being playful and adventurous, I am quite the athlete. I am fast and spring from surface to surface in my room, and love to perch myself on the tall cat tree left from the previous feline inhabitant. In spite of my awkward yet incredibly beautiful body, I love doing agility exercises! My very favorite thing is to take long walks on leash when I can explore all the sights, sounds and smells the outdoors have to offer me. I'm very intelligent and would appreciate someone who would help mentally stimulate me. I'm very food-motivated so I love getting trained in new skills and tricks -so much fun because I'm learning new things AND getting super yummy treats! I may have a very independent side, but I really like being affectionate with my humans that have been patient with me. Neck rubs are the best! And I'm a good helper too-when my office mate works at her computer, I sit behind her in the chair and have cuddle time. If you give me a chance, I promise to make your life so much fun and be your loyal Monkey! www.sophiasgracefoundation.org (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Panama
Dogs can make good pets in Panama if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
