Rescue Me ID: 17-09-18-00026  (female)

Basenji Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Mange (Demodectic),

I rescued this dog when she was a small puppy from a village in the high lands of Peru, called Cachicadan. She was undernourished and had trouble to keep her balance. She would walk with her neck sideways. Veterinarians I%BD%BDve taken her to say there is a possibility she survived distemper and was left with a sequel. Now she has recovered 99% from the state she was at, and now she only has a barely-noticeable neck twist when she stares at you. She has never had seizures. Another problem she had was a skin infestation with demodectic mange. Also she has recovered from that, after three months of treatment. Now she%BD%BDs a ... (Read More)1-year-old puppy (approximately). She is a very energetic dog, playful, kind with both adults and children, as well as other dogs. She%BD%BDs also very submissive and tends to look for constant attention and care. Sometimes she gets on the way of people when they are walking and this could be a problem, specially for elderly people, unless they are very aware of this when she%BD%BDs around. As she will grow up I am sure she will become less hyperactive and only the humble side of her personality will be left. She has certainly suffered a lot, and needs love from her owner. I am currently with her in Lima, Peru, and plan to move to the US in order to study there, in Lexington, Kentucky. The cellphone number I attached here is my mother%BD%BDs, who lives in California. I plan to take her to the US the first week of January 2018, so there is still time to perhaps get to talk on the phone about her and send you more pictures or videos. Also you will have a little bit of time to get your home ready for her. She%BD%BDs an incredible puppy and I%BD%BDm sure you%BD%BDll love her. I believe American pet owners are very dedicated to their dogs, this is why I am willing to take her to the US in order to find her a really good owner there. Thank you for your support! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Peru
Dogs can make good pets in Peru if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!
