Dear Sir/Madam, I'm Dr. Ender Selcuk from Turkey. I'm an oral surgeon and I support animal volunteers in Turkey who're, in my opinion, in a hopeless struggle for stray dogs and cats. Animal negligence, abuse and slaughter are the bleedig wounds of my country. Only a handfull pepole in every city and town are fighting for animals' rights and work to help them. I'm writing to you with a little bit of hesitance, I want to tell you a little bit about a blind dog from Turkey. She is a lovely kind blind animal with a bit of a tragic story. I was wondering if you could support us and direct us to hopefully help this poor soul as well.%A0 %A0 ... (Read More)Her name is%A0Nazli, in English it means a 'sassy joy'.%A0Let me tell you a little bit about%A0Nazli; %A0 Nazli%A0was first seen by our volunteers at the garbage area where they usually go and do our mass feedings. Nazli had severe mangy and she was walking a bit funny and that is how she got the attention of the volunteers. She got scared from the people who were trying to grab her and ran away, almost getting hit by a car. If she did, her story would have ended in the middle of the road in the dumping ground. %A0 Nazli%A0was lucky and she was being protected. The volunteers managed to grab her and at%A0first,%A0they did not realize she was blind. After they started her medical checkups, they realized that she is blind. I got involved at that stage and sent her to%A0a clinic in the capital for the treatment of mangy. A month later I sent her to the Veterinary Faculty, proffessors in ophthalmology clinic have sadly informed us that her blindness is permanent with no hope of recovery.%A0 %A0 I took%A0Nazli%A0to the city that I live in, and ensured my vet friend to do all of her general and specific immunization, and she has been%A0neutered.%A0Vet's nurse was so heartbroken about%A0Nazli that she took her to her home, until we find%A0Nazli%A0a permanent home.%A0 %A0 That scared and shy girl is now the most dog and cat friendly ball of joy.%A0Nazli%A0lives with 5 other cats, and she is very good friends with them. She is so excited around human beings and loves to be pet by them. That shy and scared pup is now a love machine %8FApart from her sight, she is walking with ease, she loves stairs and she is%A0toilet trained.%A0 %A0 She is a kind soul and her disability of sight did not turn her into an angry animal. As she spends time with us, we realized she is a trusting and loving animal. She learns so fast. She learned how to navigate through the nurse's house with ease. Nurse claims that%A0Nazli%A0can see light and that is how she navigates but the vet says she learned the house very quickly and that's why she's so comfortable. %A0 So yeah, this is%A0Nazli, for us she is the embodiment of Lord's way of saying 'There is always hope'. I am looking for kind and patient individuals to accept this kind soul with open arms and love. In my%A0country, a blind and un-fashionable dog is not accepted and have no chance of adoption. The sad part is maybe the true blind ones are us. This dog sees with her heart while we are so blinded by our greed. Nazli%A0has been prepared based on European Union and North America Animal Health Standards by my vet friend. Her travel expenses will be covered from our end. Our only wish is to find her a loving house, where she won't be abandoned again, and will truly feel love.%A0 %A0 I hope you will be able to help me to help%A0Nazli? Thank you for your support. My best wishes. Dr. Ender Selcuk DDS Ph. D EMail: WhatsUp: +90 532 4236210 (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Turkey
Dogs can make good pets in Turkey if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia Turkey Fact Sheet
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.) The dog was the earliest domesticated animal. Dogs are red-green colorblind.
