Urgent: This animal could be euthanized if not adopted soon.

Animal ID: 1503-0153King (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

King is a dog that came in a bit down on his luck. He is a young boy who seems to have not had a great start to life and was surrendered because he was uncomfortable when the family members fought. I would be too. Because of that King needs someone willing to go slowly and work on continuing to socialize him. (No fighting in the home would be much appreciated as well.) He has made so much progress while with us at VBAC and lights up when he sees a familiar face. This boy comes alive when his friends are around. He likes to play but isn't overly rambunctious. King knows how to 'sit' and 'shake' for a treat. He seems a little bit head shy with ... (Read More)strangers, so a home without small children would be ideal. In the right home, I have no doubt he would blossom into loving family member. He's got all the qualities of a heart dog, he just needs a someone with a big, patient heart that he can give himself too! He is house trained and good with most female dogs. He is male dog selective. As King has been calling the shelter his home for 4 months now his shelter mom and I took him on an outing to the beach and the park yesterday. He was around all sorts of new sights, sounds, smells and people. He did fabulous! He was startled once when a small child ran by full speed ahead, but other than that he was not effected by bikes, skateboards, baby strollers, joggers or anything else we came across. It was a good time watching him interact with the person that he cares most about at this time. He was good in the car, he didn't get car sick and he seemed to enjoy the ride in the backseat with his 'mom'. He rolled in the grass. He played in the shower on the boardwalk. He watched the ocean. You know, dog things. He had the time of his life! And you know what? It didn't take any effort on our part. Just a few hours of our time and you would have thought he won the doggy lottery! The sad face turned into the biggest of pittie smiles and the dog that lays in his kennel looking like he's given up hope that his person will ever find him had a bounce in his step that would rival any kid in a bounce house! He was as happy as a dog can possibly be. He was able to do what most dogs take for granted. He was able to just be a dog. Imagine how it must feel to be a young pup who can hardly remember life outside of the shelter. I watched him see a squirrel for the first time in who knows how long and it was just magical! The squirrel got away, no harm done, but the delight he got out of being able to bark and run and try to catch that squirrel was something to see! Just a young dog being a dog. That is all King wants. A chance to be a family dog. A chance to live in a place where these kind of things are the norm, not a treat. King is just a dog wanting to get back to living the life of a dog. Backyard to play in, bed to sleep in, someone to rub his belly from time to time. He wants what every shelter dog wants. A happy beginning to his story with a family that will adore him. Give him a chance. Look into those sweet amber eyes and promise him that you will love him forever. If you can do this you will get the most unconditional love in return. Please come and meet this very handsome boy soon at Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center, 341 S Birdneck Road. He is not on the adoption floor so please ask for him by name and ID#1503-0513 and someone will be happy to bring him out to meet you. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Dog in Vatican City State
Dogs can make good pets in Vatican City State if they match your IifestyIe. Dogs have a reputation for being "man's best friend" for excellent reasons. Dogs are wonderful companions. Many breeds, in addition to being affectionate, devoted members of the family, are useful working dogs and guardians. Most dogs form tight bonds with their humans, and need to be cared for like the valuable family members they are. But sadly, some owners do not live up to the responsibility and involvement it takes to properly care for a dog throughout its life. Dogs can become the victims of neglect or active abuse. Some dogs receive tender, attentive care from their owners, but no longer have a home after their owner passes away or experiences a major life event that makes him unable to keep his dog. There are many more dogs than there are homes for dogs, and dogs that are not spayed or neutered can accidentally produce large numbers of puppies, exacerbating overpopulation. For this reason, three to four million dogs, many of them perfectly healthy and wonderful animals, are euthanized in the U.S. each year.

Many people get excited about owning a new dog, decide to get a puppy, and then pick one out at a pet shop or visit a breeder with a new litter. However, there are so many wonderful, friendly dogs in need of adoption, including puppies and purebreds. Some of these dogs might even be a better fit for a family than a new puppy; for instance, some adult dogs in need of adoption are already housebroken and obedience trained. Adoption is typically much less expensive than purchasing a dog. People who adopt dogs find the experience extremely rewarding, bond very closely with their dogs, and have the added satisfaction of knowing that one less animal has to be euthanized. If your family is ready for a canine companion, please consider adopting a dog!

lnteresting Dog Trivia Vatican City State Fact Sheet
All dogs, even cute little lap dogs, are ultimately descended from domesticated wolves. There are hundreds of dog breeds with extremely varied characteristics and sizes, from the tiniest teacup Chihuahua to the hugest Mastiff, but all of these breeds make up just one species Canis lupus familiaris and can theoretically breed with one another (although there can be practical and health related constraints.) Dogs are red-green colorblind.
